Hi everyone!
I have a quick question for you noble geeks.
My girlfriend came home yesterday with a brand new S3, and when I look at it, it turns
out it came preinstalled with ROM Manager (which needs root to work). The phone was
not rooted, but I had no idea that Samsung put this app on their phones before shipping.
Anyone know why they do this? For a minute I was worried she had paid for a pre owned
phone.

Very odd!, do you not think this could be a refurb but they forgot to wipe maybe? can you not check manufacture date? maybe date on the battery?
I very much doubt this is a new phone with Rom Manager on

Samsung don't put ROM Manager in there, I would think the phone is not brand new. Where did you get it from?

She bought it from a local store here in Norway, but I found the reason. Turns out it was
just me installing it on her previous phone, and when she logged in on her new one
all apps she had on her previous one was automagically installed.

So I bought my phone striaght out the AT&T store and I have heard repeatedly that the AT&T version of the Galaxy S II is the SGH-777 but when I boot my phone it always says GT-I9100....is there a difference? And if so does that mean I should be using a different forum to get my ROMs? Thanks for answering my question in advance and for any help provided.

I9100 is the international version of the SGSII. If you bought it new in the U.S. it should be an i777. If it has been flashed it could have an i9100 ROM on it, but if you got it from an AT$T store I doubt that's the case.

Was your phone sealed in the box or refurbished?
Sent from my A500 using xda premium
Sounds like he somehow got a device from the store that had a custom kernel flashed on it... Same question, is there a big yellow triangle?
Was this a refurb?
Yep, sounds like someone messed with this phone before! I'd take it back and exchange it!
I dont believe stores can sell refurbished phones, only online can sell them. Either someone in AT&T was messing around with a phone and flashed a custom rom on it, or somehow an international version got slipped in... but the box would have to be a blue/white/orange box with AT&T on it.
Weird.

Yea I bought it brand new with my upgrade straight from AT&T. Lol I think I know the issue tho...I don't exactly remember what it was like stock but I've since flashed a ROM on it from this forum, maybe that explains it. I could have sworn that it always said I9100 but truthfully I might not have noticed it til after I flashed.

Ron White - "You cant fix stupid!"
Hi, I just bought a galaxy note on Craigslist. If the price is too good to be true, IT USUALLY IS. The note listed as an international unlock model but it actually a Korean version (Shv e160r). Now I'm can not get data to work with the phone. I do some searching and root the phone with terkger kernel but can not find anything on custom rom so my question is
Can I flash the AT&T version or the n7000 custom rom?
There are some Korean app that I can get rid off. Even though I change to the English language the phone dailer still show some Korean letter. There is an antenna on the right top corner of the phone but don't know what is it use for. How much do you think I can get if I sell on eBay? Paid 400 for this piece of sh*t and can't even use it. Please help!!!

Well if you actually used XDA instead of the forums you would know we have a Marketplace on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1322. Just make a thread in the Marketplace tellin everyone you want to trade your version for the AT&T or International version. If its new make sure you tell everyone its new and also what color the device is. Also do not try any roms for the Note i717 or the International Note cause they will not work on your version. There are no custom roms for the Korean version but you can root it. Also I would put your device on Ebay or Craigslist too in case nobody trades you on here you can sell it on one of those sites.

Its a real Note its just the Korean version. The Korean Version looks like the so called Internation Note but has LTE like our AT&T Notes and I am pretty sure the Korean version comes with recovery built in to it but there is no custom roms yet for the Korean version. There is also a Berry Pink Korean Note which makes it stand out. Its a great device just like all the Nptes there is just not a lot of development going on for it.
you should have gone in to ATT or Tmobile store and siged a new contract or upgrade your current either way you would have paid almost the same since the note has dropped to $249 with a 2yr agreement. I paid like $350 with the lether flap when it just came out.
So there is no custom rom that you guys know that will work with this shv e160k.

No I do not wanna trade but if I can get enough money to get the Korean version I will try developing a custom rom for it. There is basically nobody doing anything with the Korean version but I am interested in the device. The Korean version is a bit different than the other Notes and I like what it has to offer so when I get one I will be developing for it.
Hi,
I just gotten a new Galaxy S3 from AT&T and I decided to root the phone and wanted to flash it with a cuztomized ROM. My phone was successfully rooted and I tried flashing Android Revolution HD ROM ( a cuztomized rom from xda). Right after the phone done flashing the rom and was trying to reboot, it did not boot or turn on. I cannot even start the phone. The phone was just not gonna startup no matter what I did. I could not even go into the recovery mode or download mode so I could not do anything to fix it. Anyone can help me with this? Thanks.

Sounds like a brick .. sorry mate.
Well I think you might be able to get away with telling em you were doing an update through kies and the cord got yanked by your cat halfway through... or send it to someone for JTAG. There's a couple reputable buisnesses that do this and with a fast turnaround and relatively low cost considering the cost of the device.. maybe somewhere around $50 bucks (just a ballpark.. could be 60.. beats me) user connexion2005 does JTAG and I believe he has support for the S3!
..but lesson learned. Read, Read, Read .. I am sure the OP of the ROM you flash states plain and clear which device it's for. You need to know which device you have and are modding, and not by its generic name.. "GalaxyS3 international variant is an GT-i9300" .. not sure what the at&t variant is but its not GT-i9300
*edit* actually it doesn't state it in the OP that its for the GT-i9300 variant ... but it is in the GT-i9300 forum.

This is my best phone ever! Always had SonyEricsson and I'm glad I chose the S3! I tried other ROMS, but I like the stock rom from Samsung more
Build quality is okay, it's plastic, but it is well-built and with a bumper I only feel bumper and screen. I dropped out once from like 1,5mtrs got some little damage on the corners, but I can't see them with my bumper, so they don't exist.

apparently it is some kind of beast. Knox has it locked down pretty tight from what I hear. like I said, my bulb doesn't shine that bright when it comes to a lot of this stuff. I just try to read and keep myself out of trouble here.
there have been a few guys trying to get a safetystrap thing going. they got it for the Note 3, thanks to a gentleman by the name of Hashcode. he has tried to get it going for the Mega. I am not sure whether he is still working on it or not, I know he had hit a big hurdle and took a break for a bit but it was on the agenda to give it another shot. that was maybe about a month ago or more.

I dont think there is a way to remove. I think the trick is to leave a small portion of existing OS, with the Knox, tricking it to thinking everything is in tact. Then there is a secondary OS, which we can then play with.
