[Q] Opinions On Which ROM To Use - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi There,
First of all I am a currently proud owner a htc one x and have flashed every android phone i've had. A friend of mine has a galaxy s2 and wants me to flash it for him, i need everyones opinion on which rom has the best:
1. battery life
2. performance
3. stability
I obviously can't try all the roms so i'm relying on your opinions as to which would be the most stable
thanks in advance
Cody.

PLEASE! Read the damn rules before posting stuff like this! It's the first thread, so why ignore it??

There is no best rom or kernel, because it is totally subjective. Try them out yourself.
I will report this now.

Still totally subjective. Some people like stock and their features, other people prefer AOSP and there features, etc. Try a few of them after reading at least 10 pages of the threads to get a global idea about peoples opinion of the rom, and then make your decision.

The most popular ROM right now is Jelly Bean 4.1.2.
Which Region? That's the whole point, try them out & see for yourself.

Thank you. I have a quick question that maybe you could help me with. Do you have to change kernels for different roms or does the stock one work on all?

No problem. And that all depends on the dev, they might include a custom kernel (so you can OC) but some may include the stock one and suggest a kernel for you to flash. I would suggest using a kernel other than stock if you wanna OC (although I'm not sure if you can use perflock disabler..can anyone confirm/deny?)
Edit: I'm not rooted yet, haven't had the time. But I might make the jump in a day or two. Kinda missing that aosp goodness!

All the ROMs (so far) are based off the original EVO 3d rom, the only difference is some have tweaks and/or HTC Widgets and apps like peep and friend stream taken out. If a ROM isn't fully functional it will say so in the first post. If you wipe yes you will loose all your apps but apps like MyBackup or Titanium Backup can restore them as they were in minutes. If you going to be flashing ROMs, one of those programs is really good to have.

READ, READ, AND READ SOME MORE.
Pay particular attention to the stickies in all the sections.

Check the stickies. Plenty of help there. You can also Google root after galaxy sgh-i777. Do not do anything until you fully understand. If there is a problem while rooting check the stickies for the unblock/return to stock thread. Also check the rules in the general sticky. Welcome to the galaxy.

I HIGHLY suggest you leave the phone stock. It is a great phone just the way it is. Especially if your new to Android phones. At least until you read up on all the pros and cons of rooting. Then read all the stickies in the forums. This is all suggested for your benefit.

This is a self-serve forum. As told you when you joined, you are expected to search for info and to read the stickies. Start with the FAQ. This is not the help desk. You only get what you put into it and simply creating threads for things that can be easily found by searching and reading will make you nothing but enemies in here. Respect the forum, its rules and the many people who "work" in here for free.
Read the stickies, search posts, do research.
You know are ready when you do not have to make these kinds of threads...

Q 1.Whats the latest rom out there that is tweaked better and that looks most like the original Jelly Bean?

You've been given a lot of suggestions which you could've looked up by yourself, so it seems to me that it isn't that hard to just have a look in the threads yourself.
If you read the title of the Neatrom thread, I think you might have your answer...

[Q] Fastest rom for Galaxy s2

Hey.
I am looking for a fast rom for my samsung galaxy s II i9100. I want it to be fast but it's also important that it's stable. I've tried out a couple of custom roms but no one was what I was looking for. Cyanogenmod was very clean and also fast, but the battery was just sucked out of the phone...
So... what whould you prefer??
Thanks in advance!

Try the ROMs for yourself and find out, no one is going to give you any advice since you decide what ROM is best for you
A red one (because red is the fastest colour)
for stability sammy roms, aosp (cm, etc...) is fast but not 100% stable (open source drivers). just choose

My Advice: Dorimanx Kernel 9.39 + SlimBean Build 8
It's an AOSP ROM, battery life with shipped kernel is okay, not extraordinary but not as devastating as XENON HD.
And very stable and fast, probably because it really deserves its name: Its just 81MB
Try it!
Guys, why are 'What is the best/fastest/greatest rom?' questions suddenly allowed? It's subjective, no one can tell you.
So stop asking and please stop answering with subjective suggestions.
