Volume Up/Down Sounds? - HTC Droid DNA

I'm not sure if I messed something up, or if it was this was before I started and I just never realized it. I downloaded the Sense 5 sounds and copied them to their appropriate places in system/media. When I went to adjust the volume, I noticed it wasn't making the incremental increase/decrease sounds. So I put the original files back, and still no sounds. I rebooted a few times, still no sounds. Can anyone confirm that the DNA does in fact make sounds when adjusting volume up/down using the rocker button? Thanks!

Yes it makes an increasing pitch noise as you turn it up and vice versa

hmm..mine doesn't. must have messed something up. thanks!

Can someone do me a favor and check the permissions on Volume-1.aac in /system/media/audio/ui? I might have messed up permissions on these files and thats why I don't have volume up/down sounds. Thanks!!

that'd be great,

I get stuck at the Splash.
I know Tazz's ROM (probably others too) has some DSP controller that lets you nearly double the volume. Careful you don't blow out the speaker though.
Is that only system sounds though? I too would love to find this out, the media sound volume is a bit on the soft side.
Dsp manager on kaosfroyo makes high pitched noise and distortion. It doesn't in other roms?

Is there a way to "boost" volume levels? What file controls it? If anyone knows, could you let me know? Do I just change to values, or what? Because I would like the media volume louder...

I have an app called LVH v3.6 (loud volume hack) that boosts all volumes a LOT!
I don't remember where I got it from or even if I paid for it or not. Let me know if you have trouble finding it. If you do try it and want to know what settings worked for me, let me know and I'll look them up.
You have the option to backup your original settings in the app before selecting a custom one. It saves to your SD card.
It's permanent until a full rom flash.

Edit: It's called "Louder Volume Hack" and it's 2 pounds on the Market.
DSP Manager always creates mad amounts of distortion.
Also, I know those apps exist.
Do you know what it actually changes?
It has to add a file or delete or alter a previous.
It doesn't work off of magic.
Lol.

Of course it's not magic. The filename of the backup file it creates is "AudioFilter.csv". I don't know if it's just a copy of an existing file or just a record a previous values. LVH has a folder of files by the same names of the different values (I'm guessing) it can use.
I'm about to flash a new version of the rom I use. Once I'm done restoring apps and such, if I have time maybe I'll do nandroids of before and after applying the LVH settings, and compare the two and determine what file(s) changed.

Cool, man. Thanks a lot. I'd figure it, I just don't have access to the app. Haha.

I did the nandroids last night but we stay up until 6am so I should get around to the comparison later today. I'll let you know what I find.

I'd be curious too for the headset jack. It's decent but my FM transmitter doesn't put out full volume and I have to turn up my radio in my Camry to like 40 where normally it would be 30.
I bought the program. When I get to a computer I'll rip **** apart. I've been looking at the files with Root Explorer and such right now. Lots of values for things I've never heard of. Hahahahaha. But, I'll get some files made up with the best sound quality and make a flashable zip eventually.

I've had LVH for over a year now and it rocks! I bought it when I had my G1 because the G1 speaker was barely audible at full volume. I installed it on my Eris after I rooted it and it works just fine. It also has a headset boost as well as an in-call volume boost!

If this makes the volume louder, I can hardly tell.
Maybe 10-20%? Definitely seems like the ringer volume itself is a little bit louder at its loudest (notifications/ringtones), but music/media and in-call speaker (speakerphone) I can barely tell a difference. Maybe time will tell!
Either way, thank you for this. Not hearing notifications and ringing are a big deal for me when I travel a lot with the windows down (of course, I use a blue tooth).
This is excellent, either way. Definitely increases volume at least a little bit.

Volume changes by itself sometimes

Anyone else get this? Randomly I just checked and all my volumes were maxed out and I didn't touch anything lol...I do notice that system volume maxes out by itself even when I lower it..I'm using sound manager as my volume app btw

Maybe you should post this in the Nexus forums! J/k. Nope I haven't any issues w/ the volume changing on its own.
Lol I must just be nuts...maybe I did accidentally adjust it and didn't realize it...either way, atleast it got louder and didn't go to zero like some phones...haha

Nope, you're not nuts. I use AudioManager and after silencing system volume, it will restore to the loudest setting on its own. However, I haven't noticed it with any of the other volumes.

Nah man,"ghost in the machine" it's not satisfied just with the Nexus.
I posted about this a couple days after I got my phone. I didn't know if we had sound profiles in Sense I was unaware of or something. I since haven't had the issue, so I don't know WTF was up. Maybe the volume rocker is active even when the screen is off and my pocket pushed it?
I noticed mine sometimes is lower then what I set it at. But I wouldnt doubt it being accidently pushed!!
Btw,I may not have experienced the volume issue, but the Google search screen pops up regularly and this wifi screen pops up occasionally also even though I always leave wifi disabled.
No phone!!!... Bad!!!
Is it the one to notify you WiFi is available when you open an app? You can disable that in WiFi settings.

Where would I be able to find the screen press sound for ICS? I want to replace the TW one sound with this one. Any help would be appreciated.

This is similar. Change permissions appropriately and reboot after you drop it in.
Thanks. That was the right sound for the ICS tick. I had to actually replace the file called TW_Touch.ogg on the GB ROM with the effecttick.ogg. I did rename it, etc. Turns out that TW will use it but it blasts it so loud that it is almost as bad as the TW sound was. I had to edit the effecttick.ogg file in Audacity by lowering the gain to an acceptable level for me. Then redid the process. Worked like a champ and now I have the sound I was looking for.
I've attached the file I made in case anyone wants to do it to.

Increasing volume while in call

Don't know if anyone else has this issue, but when I'm on a call I can't increase/decrease the volume unless I pull the phone away from my face and the screen comes back on from the sensor. If I press the volume buttons with it on my face the volume doesn't change.

Which ROM are you running? I know that UnNamed has this happen as a side effect from using the volume buttons for skipping songs.

If it's another ROM, not too sure.

[Q] Notification sounds not playing through headphones

Curious if anyone else has noticed this / knows how to "fix" it.
When I have my headphones plugged in, the notification sounds (eg the default new message "whistle") comes out the speaker instead. The sound in the headphone (music) will mute during this. I've had to resort to turning the notification volume off during work hours, so the sound doesn't disturb others at work - surely these sounds should be coming through headphones while they are plugged in?
Hello,
I'm with the same issue! It's very odd...
Any thoughts about this? Btw, I'm not using stock headset (I'm not used to in-ear headphones).
Yeah add another +1 to this....!!!

Actually I double check again, theres a "notification" sound going through headset. the only problem is it's playing simultaneously with the phone speaker. Really annoying specially if I'm in the office cause others can hear the notification sound too.
An android bug, apparently

This is a long-standing Android bug that manifests on many, though not all, phones. Google for "android notification sounds headphones" and you find many complaints about it, and a Google bug report with comments going back to 2010.
There is a apparently an easy way to patch it if your phone is rooted (though I cannot find info on exactly HOW) and there is a script here on XDA for use with the Tasker app ($6 or so in the Playstore) that can address it.
Other than that, the only thing to do to minimize annoyance to your coworkers is turn notification sounds to silent when using headphones. There are volume profile apps that can do this automatically.
In this bug report https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6696 and this one https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=16667 it said that's a problem with ICS, that is supposed to be fixed in JB and that CM have their own fix for this.
Let's hope that S3 JB release will fix it.
this problem has been bugging me too..hope its fixed in the next update.
