I have question about using casual to root and unlock bootloader. After a few trys I was able to root but no success in unlocking bootloader. Ive followed the instructions and watched the YouTube video and nothing. My question is did I get bad download or did Verizon pull another fast one? Or is it simply triail and error.

It may be helpful to say any errors or where it's failing. Also what method are you using? Are you sure it's the newest method by Adam? There are a lot of reasons you may be failing.

The old one is for ppl who didn't take the update right? What are the benefits of unlocking the bootloader?

It allows you to flash custom ROMs found for example in the Developer sections.

You must not be following directions. There is even a video to guide you through it. Droidstyle's guide works flawless.

I just successfully used Adam's method. It works great. Had to reinstall the drivers before it worked, but other than that flawless. Check out pg 65-66 of his thread for more details.
If you find this hard to unlock, thank god you didn't own a thunderbolt that took near a half hour entering command line prmpts to unlock. Or the rezound that you had to short circuit with a wire in a precise time to unlock.
This phone was cake in comparison.

Omg yeah the rezound was easy but terrifying haha I flashed to stock so many times I became a pro at the wire trick. thunderbolt was scary too. Did that at 2am while drunk haha luckily it went very well.

Hey every one. My laptop and desktop decided to crap out at the same time. So I was wondering if there is a way for me to unlock the photon via the hd dock or via the phone without needing a pc. I'm already rooted but it seems pointless to have root if I can't even flash roms. On my Evo 4g I was a flashaholic. So please any insight would be greatly apreciated.

You can root it from just the phone, but to my knowledge you cant unlock. I could be mistaken though.

no, cause you need to sbf the derpunklock.sbf and then you still need to issue the unlock commands thru commands prompt(moto-fastboot unlock)

Hey all,
So I've been constantly checking for the OTA with my Straight Talk SIM, and nothing ever happens. It's like the phone isn't even looking for it. It says I have to switch to CDMA mode, so I do, but then still, nothing happens. It's frustrating. Do I have to have a working Verizon SIM for the phone to look for the update? I have an old Verizon micro SIM that the phone recognizes but it's not making a difference...
Anyone?

You have to be on Verizon to get the ota.

No your not stuck but it takes a few steps to get the update on straight talk. You will not b able to get the ota but you can side load the update with ADB and fastboot if u know what you r doing. I don't own a DNA so I don't know much about them but I'm sure u can find instructions to flash a ruu if you look around this site long enough. Good luck and hope it works out, and by the way I was gonna get the DNA on straight talk but heard MMS wasn't working, is this still a problem?

Thanks

They are working on it no ETA but they said they dont need anymore testers so maybe thats a good sign.

The 2.06 update pops up every time I unlock my phone. I'm walking to the store, I look at my phone and behold its installing the 2.06 update on its own. Well played Verizon. The thought of selling this phone never crossed my mind, but since 2.04 root is priority over 2.06 I'm highly considering it.

It's not about how good stock is or isn't. It's about being able to do what you want.
Go try and use teamviewer or a vnc server. Need root.
How about Wi-Fi tether that doesn't require a screen password. Need root
Titanium backup? Nope... root.
Game cheat engine's... root
So while the stock interface is fine, no unrooted phone can do the above without it.
