[Q] Baseband not change using differente ROM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I bought my GS2 with original vendor ROM and I9100BULP8 Radio Baseband;
I updated my phone a 1st time with paranoid ROM and a 2nd time with PACMAN ROM and my Radio baseband didn't change.
A colleage of me didn't the same thing and now with PACMAN ROM he has teh I9100XXLPX baseband.
Why didn't my Radio baseband change?
Thanks for help
Regards
Kondor76

Maybe the Pacman and Paranoid roms don't have a new radio included when you flash them. But you can do it manually via CWM

In that case, how could my colleage have new readio on his phone and not me, knowing he did the semame operation?
and where cand i find new radio Baseband?
Thanks,

By searching the forum. There are hundreds (probably thousands) of threads with links to CWM flashable (and probably Odin flashable as well) modems.

[Q] Can you change your Kernel???

Hello All,
I just changed from having a sony xperia x10 to getting a new SG2 and I am brand new to the SG2 forums. I am currently with Rogers wireless in Canada, but the phone was originally a Bell Mobility phone that was unlocked. I do see that superuser is installed on the phone (in which I assume that would be it has already been rooted) and I am able to use the phone on Rogers now.
I now want to install custom ROMs, but I do see that it is quite different than what I am used to. I see that custom kernels are all based on your existing Kernel (please forgive me if that is incorrect...), and that custom ROMS are tailored to specific kernels.
My current Kernel is
2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513
root(at)DELL103 #2
Model number - GT-i9100M
Android version - 2.3.3
Baseband Version - I9100MUGKF6
Am I able to change the kernel, so that I can install custom ROMs onto my phone? Or will the current firmware suffice? Thank you very much for your help, it is much appreciated!
Do you mean a kernel the full firmware or a custom rom .
kernel is upgraded with a later firmware or a custom rom .latest custom rom will usually have latest kernel or custom kernel .
Decide what custom rom you want and follow the instructions .
Rough draft to update to cognition rom latest i would
Flash a matching stock rom KG6 via Odin .
Flash matching CWM and Root Kernel KG6 .
Boot phone and set up .
Follow instructions in rom post which is usually copy to sd card boot to recovery mode and install zip via CWM .
Your Firmware is KDD thats very old now .
Only must check is Bell Canada and do you need to flash a different modem and or CSC for that area .
jje
That is a TON of help. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it
Does anyone know if the current Bell SG2 can install an EU ROM?
Yes, I've installed a custom ROM (lightening ROM) which is based off a European ROM on my Bell's SGS II.

Changing baseband

Hello,
I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times before. I couldn't find anything that really answered all my questions.
First of all, I've see lost of roms that say are, for example, a KG2 rom. I'm assuming this means I need a KG2(or similar) baseband in order to use that rom. Is this correct?
If I flash a new baseband from http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/s...II-Shipped-Radio-Collection?p=42051#post42051 , do I just do exactly the same thing I did to flash a kernel(select PDA in odin)? Do I need to flash a new, compatible kernel at the same time? If so, before, after, doesn't matter? For example, I have a KF6 baseband and I flashed a KF4 kernel without any troubles. If I then flashed a KG2 baseband without changing the kernel, would I have issues?
Are the basebands numbered in order, e.g., KG2 > KF6(or newer at least)? I'm guessing this is why all the roms I'm seeing are KG2/KG3. I probably have an outdated baseband.
Thanks for your help,
Sam
It is best to use the same version of baseband, rom and kernel, but they are usually compatible to each other.
The KF4 or KG2 is simply a date-code.
KF4= The 4. release of June(F) 2011(K)
You can flash the odin version (.tar.md5) by putting them in the "phone" field. There are also packages out there that can be flashed with CWM.
You really need to pick a baseband/modem that works well for you some find xxx version works better in the area they are in than a later one .
A rom can be unzipped and the modem extracted and flashed via phone in Odin .

[Q] How to save original firmware + update Questions

Hello!
I got an upgrade phone from 3 UK, and i want to save the firmware on it. Is there any way to do it?
The reason why i want to save, i've never seen this baseband ver: I9100NEKF2 ...
But i want to update it to a newer (not stock one)
Can i change/ update the baseband to XXKI3 for eg?? without any problem??
I had a Samsung Galaxy S before, and i flashed it via odin, but it had that XXJV.. baseband, and i changed only within the European firmwares.
So the question is, what kind of firmware could the I9100NEKF2 be?? Can i simply install a european firmware on it without taking the risk to brick it??
And can i save somehow the original firmware just in case if anything goes wrong??
Thank you!
I tried that method...
Make sure you read all that thread before flashing...

Don't delay DO it Today...
Hello!
Thanks for the quick answer. Can i flash not carrier branded firmware on the phone, or should i choose the carrier branded one. I mean i want to install some custom rom, such as darky or cm7... Is that possible??
Thank you!

[Q] Flashing rom - noob needs help!

Hi, Im kind of new to this.
I looked in a couple forums on how to flash the Official ICS rom. but I would like to know can I just pick any official ICS firmware and flash it?
my phone is:
android version- 2.3.6
Baseband version- I9100XXKI1
I know the firmware I have now is the Chinese one but would like to flash the European one. The person I bought the phone off of seemed to have flashed the Chinese firmware 2.3.6 themselves and I couldn't use Kies to update it, not sure if the phone was originally the Chinese firmware or not.
These were the two sites I was looking at to flash it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278&page=2
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
also is there a difference between those websites for the latest ICS firmware?
any help would be appreciated. thank you!

Shouldn't matter. The reason Kies won't update it now though is probably because the original owner flashed a firmware that has a CSC that doesn't match your location/carrier. You should be able to flash any I9100 firmware you wish, as long as it is NOT an I9100G firmware.

Those two are pretty much the same, if you are looking at the same versions. (e.g. XWLP4) They are just hosted on different sites. I think the one on Intratech's thread may have the older bootloaders included instead of the newer ones (newer ones which prevent USB jigs from resetting the binary flash counter), and the one on Faryaab's thread probably has the newer bootloaders, but that should be the only difference.
And that difference probably doesn't matter much, as I believe with ICS, you can use Chainfire's "Triangle Away" app to reset the counter regardless of which bootloaders you have. (but I don't know that info for sure)
Thanks for the help, just flashed it and works great !

most custom roms run on the lastest firmware.
xwkf3 is most prob your region firmware.
you can flash any roms listed for your GT-I9100 thats states it for this model.
all you need is root and cwm and to follow the flashing guide and read faq for the rom you have choosen to flash.
To install custom ROM you have to flash CFROOT with CWM first.
You can find one for you here (choose the one according to your current ROM): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Then go to CWM recovery mode and install ROM. I do not know this ROM so cannot tell you more detailed instructions. Please, read the ROM thread carefully for instructions.
EDIT: Now I noticed that you are running GB, not ICS ROM. I am not sure whether it is needed or not, but I would recommend first to flash newest original Samsung ICS ROM, then newest CFROOT and then to install custom ROM. I am really not sure, whether it is needed, but this works smoothly for me.
I already have ROOT and backup ROM from my I9100... so no problem with this.... moreover i already flashed more than 50 PDA so no problem with this also...
so if i understood well only ROM which have XWKF3 as model number can be flashed on my I9100 ?
1. did i understand it well ?
2. or is it only for original and insecure ROM for ROOT mode only ?
ICS ROM even original are not available AFAIK for model XWKF3
or did i miss something ?
thx.

no, you have got it wrong
XWKF3 is the version of firmware you are currently on, it has no impact on what you can flash...i.e you can flash any i9100 rom on it. Your model is NOT XWKF3, your model is GT-i9100
please ignore the XWKF3 part, its really not relevant
moreover i already flashed more than 50 PDA so no problem with this also...

i dont understand how you have flashed 50 firmwares if you dont know this....i seriously suggest doing some research before doing anything further with your phone

Definitely not. You can flash any ROM, but you should choose one for your region/country. Choose one from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 or from SamMobile or samsung-updates.
Then take CFROOT dedicated to your ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399.
Then use CWM to flash any custom ROM following the instructions for the ROM.

i think there is a misunderstanding here.
the XWKF3 is in the android OS written as Model Number.
i know that my samsung is a I9100 model however during my flash for ROOT and CWM installation it is also referenced as Model number...
i flashed several HTCs (ROM & FW) before with any issue, my question here was about the model number...is the Android OS model number important in the ROM choice or not.
and you answered to that question
thx
nope, xwkf3 is NEVER the model number, it is the 3rd firmware of june 2011 and therefor terribly old and outdated.
to clarify, xw is your region, general europe, k is the year of the rom (k=11th letter of the alphabet, year 2011), f is the month of the rom (f=6th letter, june) and 3 is a running number for the roms of that month.
also, in android os information, Model Number says GT-I9100, the rom number you refer to can only show up in baseband version and/or build number.
you must flash a rom from this sub forum, not just any model or make of phone, but flashing another kf3 rom would give you the same one, you already have. obviously you would want something newer, like LP7 or LPD or at least LA4.
but given the current state of this device, i would recommend you just connect the phone to the pc, start kies and let it take care of the rom flashing process for you and upgrade you to the latest rom for your region, because at this point i would not recommend you to start flashing on your own, you are still lacking the basics. no offense, but you have a lot of reading to do before you get started on that or you will brick your device!
a good place to start reading is this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
after you read the entire first 4 posts in that thread, you can start flashing roms, preferably one you downloaded in said thread, if you have further questions, just continue reading or ask in that thread or here again.
