Jelly Bean camera worse? - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

Hi, I noticed that after the JB update photos looks washed with low satured colors.
I compared them with photos taken with ics and the latters have more accurate colors, I took them indoors with the same artificial light conditions.
What do you think?

There wasn't any difference here on JB. Worked perfect with same colors. Check settings, must be some option different in your camera.

Camera is the same, but I have found that the panorama photos are much better now, higher resolution.

Here some photos that shows the difference in color balance/saturation.
I know the sun conditions may be a little different since they are taken in different time but I get consistent results in all the photos (even with indoor photos with the same light).
See the name of the files to know on what os they are taken.

Model number is nothing to do with ram. All L9 have 1GB internal ram (for processing) and what you see is AVAILABLE (ASSIGNED) RAM SIZE after booting the phone.
I dont want confuse you more with technical details of memory allocation but putting in simple words....
Some Part of 1GB RAM is reserved for internal processing of the cpu hence you see less ram shown as RAM. Physically it should be 1GB. Hope this clears. This RAM size will also differs on various versions of OS installed, like GB/ICS/JB, etc.

sun condition is total different. should have been taken from two phones, one with jb and one with ics at exact time, with exact manual settings (not auto), general practice to compare results. outdoor photos are mostly sharp and bright. camera quality can be determined only if test taken in low-light or night-shots.

Here a indoor shoot with only artificial light at nighttime, see the difference.
The photo taken with jb looks washed compared to what I see in reality, the light became white (was yellow/orange).
Imho auto settings is a more fair comparison because only a minority of people use manual settings.

Well I don't see any difference after updating to JB. Anyway...L9 is not a camera phone so...

I always use manual setting for brightness, iso and white balance. The rest functions are rubbish. I think there are to low variants for white balance.

UZ Camera disappointed me

Hey guys
Is there any method/guide for better performance/quality in in uz?
I am wondering about this under average quality photos in this phone even with a powerful ximor rs sensor at indoor conditions!
Uz takes very bad noisy photos in low light conditions that i have never seen in each other 8 mp phones.
I have tried all options for gaining better results but unfortunately this camera disappointed me at all.

That's true. ZU camera is not the best one.
But try Cemre Zoom FX. It takes much better photos.
I'm happy with that.
Sent from my C6802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The lack of an LED should have tipped you off straight away, and the fact that the ZU uses the same camera as the Z (correct me if i'm wrong), but without an LED. You can of course install a different camera app from the Play Store, or wait until devs have ported the Z1 camera app to the ZU (still no guarantee that it will produce better photos though).

It's not really clear whether zu has the same camera module as the z, actually. Zu is only 8mp, while z has 13mp, so no guarantee the hardware is the same. And zu is far thinner than z to contain the same module, but this is just a wild guess.

Yup. It over compensate for the low light by adjusting the iso higher therefore making some images and videos blurry.

I still think we are not going to see "great" night video/picture on any phone for a while yet. We could be two three years away from that imo.
The only way that will happen is if you get a big enough sensor that bulges out of the phone. Like in the case of Nokia builds.

The f2.4 lens can only get so much light. The low light video was sweet in my one, but that's an f2 lens.
The g2 has decent video, but not being able to lock focus and exposure is a really downer. The continuous autofocus kills the videos
Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk 2
Both video show a brightly lid night scene but blurry, probably the result of low shutter speed and wide open apertures. If there is some way for people to manually set the shutter speed and aperture or make it less aggressive while taking the video, I am sure everyone will be happy.
Trying lower the brightness setting while taking the of the video might help with higher shutter speed and better focus.
The video that shows the drive through Bangkok's road I am impressed by the stabilisation though. =)

Nexus 5 vs LG G2 : Camera comparison

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aq-3ZhAjCqU
In my opinion, G2 has a much better color capturing. But in few videos G2 did have problem in focusing.
In still shots, G2 > Nexus 5.
yeah the n5 killed the g2 in video. videos on the g2 are just awful compared to every other flagship.
Sent from my Nexus 7 FHD using Tapatalk 4
Not only are videos awful, but taking pictures of anything that is moving is terrible. The only thing the G2 camera does well is landscape photos. It's to the point where i am probably going to get rid of it and go to a different device because i use the camera so often. I can't believe in all the G2 commercial they are focus on how good the camera is the whole time. False advertising at it's best.
Bad video comparison is bad. I seen better ones. In my opinion g2 is better.

If your son is not running to and from you the manual focus feature might be for you, also holding down shutter locks the focus for a few seconds to take a few quick shots, there is also a burst mode as well.

There is a sports mode, but that still uses something like 1/6s shutter time when indoors (and in the morning, so not very light). There is also a burst mode, ISO is upped with that one and you get a shutter time of 1/15th...

Nexus 5 video camera simply look horrible in comparison to the G2's: the image sometimes appears too dark with the Nexus 5 to the point that you can't see what's going on (left attached image). Moreover, Nexus 5 picture looks blurry and unfocussed much of the time, and so it's hard to see fine details (right attached image).
G2 wins big time (unless you're blind, I guess...).
It seems that LG ****ed up the Nexus 5 real good (horrible battery life, bad camera, lower quality screen, etc.).

the main problem is the focus, as you've stated. it's constantly trying to focus when it doesn't have to,and clearly the n5 doesn't suffer from this. it looks a little better at that half screen size yeah, but the second you make a 1080p video full resolution, you lose all clarity. it becomes blurry, softened and in lower indoor light pretty much looks like ass. it's not as sharp as it should be, and that's probably lg's awful post processing.

Taking stills out of a video like that isn't really fair, I could do the same to show the G2 fault.

I completely agree that taking one frame out if a video is unfair, but I also think after each phone got a chance to adjust properly that the G2 still looks better. There are also several well lit scenes that I couldn't tell a difference.

To be honest, such an improvement is only skin deep. The more problematic issue is the native code where all the image post processing is done. Plus with the latest 757 version, the Superior Auto is pretty good actually, the first time ever that i have confidence in Superior Auto Mode. It's like they have reduced the standard ISO level on the Superior Auto just like Manual, so the resulting image is less filled with artifact. So please try it again

That is interesting. The camera is really sad indeed. Even though I do photography as a hobbie with a Sony NEX! (great cameras which makes it even sadder that the Ultra is so lame), so the built in camera is not crucial but now that I got my GF the Note 2 I can see how bad it is really is lol

Day light always 23MP better but 8MP at low light benefit by Sony SuperSampling algorithm(much like Nokia 1020) for noise reduction and fine tuning the image bcoz it's quite unrealistic for a 1/2.3" sensor to take 23MP at low light.
Well no one is going to realistically change resolution that often so what do you leave on?

Sometimes dramatically different. 8mp SA is best for most scenarios
i really don't agree. in (very) low light; yes. but i find to get better shots overall with manual 20mp... everything looks more crisp and it's most color accurate ...
Does the aspect ratio impact superior auto at all? Like can you use either one?
