Battery and Charging problems after xxufmb3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After installing XXUFMB3 I suddenly have problems which I never had before.
1. USB charging from PC is now on the fritz. i.e. It says it is charging but battery goes down at the rate of 1% per 4 minutes.
2. Charging with stock charger is next to impossible.
3. I can only charge with 2.1 amp chargers (those to tablets and ipads)
4. Battery life went down to 50%
I already changed the ROM and even bought new batteries and I still end up having these problems.
Please help me?

If you've already gone back to a stock ROM and tried other chargers then it sounds like a hardware fault inside the phone.

Original charger/lead known to be unreliable and faulty

can anyone point to me the latest stable stock ROM radio kernel and all?

You want me to Google that for you?

thank you very much.

I'm also going back to stock now.
suddenly after using xxufmb3 for few days, the phone stopped charging... even after plugged in the remaining power keeps on going down.
i'm on crdroid rom as of now.

Check this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36124435
It'll help you determine what's the charging current. Then through trial and error, you can determine where the problem lies.

Ok I'm on XXUFMB3 right now. Flashed it a couple of hours ago. Haven't tried charging yet. I'm on Omega ROM v44.2 4.2.1.
So Is it dangerous to continue using this ROM? Or does this issue get fixed after flahshing another rom?
Reply ASAP, XXUFMB3 might be slahghtering my phone's hardware right now!!

[Q] Battery Problem - help please!

Have had my SGT 10.1 for about a month, unlocked bootloader, rooted, running Bonsai 0.2.0. Flashed Starburst a couple of days ago, with pershoot's kernel.
All has been well, until today, when it began shutting down because it thought it was out of power, although it was at 76%. I tried a few things to fix this, including wiping battery stats, and wiping data, cache and dalvik and restoring my nandroid backup. Now the Tab is draining the battery quickly, using it up in about 1/2 hour.
Do I need to replace this Tab, or is there a solution?
TIA!
I see other users are also having a the same issue ion the 10.1v development forum, have a look, maybe they can assist.

i dont know which kernel date your on, but flash -0809. that will sort it for you.
recalibrate your battery properly. you should go back to the stock kernel to do this.

I am using PSKernel-boot-cm_2636.4_ux-oc-xtra-vfpv3-d16_fp-080711.
So, flash stock kernel, charge to 100%, delete batterystats.bin, reboot, let tablet fully discharge, then fully charge with tablet off, then with tablet at 100%, flash 0809?
Will do tonight. Thanks for the assist, and thanks for the development work!!

Oh, sorry, that is your kernel, from Droid Basement. I had renamed it when I downloaded it just for my own (in)ability to remember what it was, and forgot that I had renamed it when I copied the name for my response to you.

I believe the procedure is as stated in post #4.
Also, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1024867
Point of note: I've had the same battery phenomena occur on wifi (which I returned) and LTE units.
Key point: I have not rooted either of these units.
I believe it may be a Samsumg hardware issue. I am also wondering if this is a result of the unit(s) being banged around, as it seems to happen when I leave it in my laptop case or carry it on the go, more frequently. I can think of about six times this has happened...

strange battery drain - 30% while reboot

how is that possible. i used firefox and message app, then it suddenly rebooted, after starting up again i lost 30% (!) of akku.
litening 6.1 kh3, nimphetamine 2.1.3
thanks for every help
Transmitted from the galaxy "S2" using a Lite'ning
Got the same problem in the past two weeks for a few times.
The device rebooted, then accu percentage goes down 10 % or more, then the percentage goes UP! sometimes to the percentage it was before the reboot.
The device rebooted when doing nothing special, sometimes it reboots if it laid on the desk.
What to do now?
Kernel: speedmod t40 (but happened also with ninphetamine 2.0.5)
Rom: Lite'ning 6.1
don't know if it happened with stock rom, flashed litening two times to test is. but doesn't work.
I'll replace mine next week.
Any other suggestions?
@OP, try switching to a different kernel and see if that solve the problem. I was previously using ninphetamine and have the same problem as you. Worst is it auto-reboot too! After switching to stock kernel, everything is now fine.

Did you switch back to CF-Root (Stock?) or back to stock Rom with stock kernel?
Thanks, see if this works.
I've noticed that this is quite common with this phone. Also note that plugging in a USB jig will also decrease the overall battery percentage for some reason. I'm guessing all this is normal, the OS just redetects the battery levels upon startup. Try calibrating your batteries guys!

Did a calibration just 2 days ago and today the problem is back again. But I'll replace it anyway because I've another bug. If i knock the device on my hand then it turns off completely. I've seen this bug on youtube.
But if the battery problem persists on the new device I'll try another kernel.
Me also having the same problem but fixed it by using Lightng Rom 6.1 and calibrated my battery properly ofcourse
Replacement will arrive on monday via DHL express. Then I'll test if it's again with the new device.

I'll switch to LeoMar with CF Root 4.1 when my new SGS2 arrives tomorrow.
Lite'ning is dead for now. So won't use it anymore if there's no further progress on that rom.
You should test if it works either with CF Root and LR6.1 or another Rom with Ninph. Kernel and see if this works in any combination.

Do you mean randomly some time after plugging in the charger, but not the 100% notification?
Screen turns on when a charger is plugged in, and also at 100%. A custom ROM can fix the 100% notification.
randomly, comes on about 1-2 minutes after plugging in
i don't have the answer, but i think we're talking about powering the phone off then charging. it's supposed to just show a battery pic but is powering back on. it might be the kernel you're using. that's what people said it was when i tried Sprint's version. mine didn't power back on with this model, but i haven't tried it lately.
using Zedomax stock kernal, phone is off ,plug in to charge normall battery pic will appear after a minute or so it will boot up on it's own

Make sure that the rom you are using is one which is designed for the SGS i777 phone.
It might even be a good idea to re-download the rom just incase the first download
some how got corrupted during downloading.
Do a clean fresh "wipe data/factory reset" and re-flash the rom but don't flash any custom
kernels and don't install any apps at all until you have had enough time to see if the
problem still persists.
Flashing roms like any of the i9100 rom or any other rom which was not
intended for our phones can cause unexpected and random issues.
Good Luck!
I have the same problem. I turned off the phone to charge up, a min later, the phone automatically turns on by itself. I rooted it with Zedomax kernel (SGH-I777-ATTGalaxyS2RootStockZedomaxKernel) before. Could this be the cause? Any other users have the same problem?

Not true. There are minor differences between i777 ROMs and GT9100 ROMs. The main differences are the radio, kernel, and button mapping; which have all been fixed with Hellraiser and HapticFix.

My phone does the same thing. I don't consider it to be a problem because my phone is rarely ever turned off. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. If it bothers you enough, you could always do a warranty exchange. Personally, I'd rather live with a minor annoyance, than have AT&T send me a refurbished replacement.

You can try out nomoarpowah app. It replaces the battery charging 'off' screen with one that has reboot controls and shows the time.
It might be able to stop the phone from booting itself. Not to mention it's really cool and will only work on Samsung phones.

Try Entrophy's kernel to see if it does the same. Screen off charging is controlled by the kernel from what I'm told. When I was running MIUI it use to do that until they added the function in the kernel.
EDIT:
I just decided to try it since I never charge that way....lol and mine did it as well.
ah well.... I think this may be an issue.

Well if it's any consolation my phone is doing it too. I guess I never left it off long enough. Starts right up after a minute or so.
But once this issue gets figured out I'm sure you'll really like the app. It's good to turn off the phone every once and awhile. And with it you can set it to boot the phone when it's done charging or at a specific time.

I'm also having this problem. Is it hardware? I have the latest unnamed rom. Phone won't stay off no matter what...I've tried pulling the battery and everything.
I don't have this issue on miui if it helps...
IIRC, I also didn't have the issue with UnNamed, but its been a while since I ran that.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
i am having the same issue, using a zedomax kernel, if anyone has a solution i would like to hear it, i like to be able to shut the phone off when charging it some times, it seems to charge faster when its off
This is a known issue with my kernel's 11/23 release, and ONLY that release for my kernel, it was a result of adding support for the Interactive governor.
I have no clue what the results might be for Zedo's kernel - he released one kernel, lots of people had problems with it, then he disappeared. He probably enabled Interactive governor too.
It could also affect CM7, I know for a while CM7 builds had issues with not supporting LPM at all - CM7 devices would go to the bootanimation and stay there.

[Q] S2 Overheating and loosing battery

Hey.
I'm not sure what has caused this but lately my S2 overheats when I enable WiFi or 3g. It gets very hot, like super hot.
I'm not sure how to check the exact temperature but if somebody can tell me how to I can get back to you on it.
This leads to the battery draining insanely fast.
Just there I was charging my phone in safe mode and it was at 100%.
I reset the phone to get it into normal mode and it went from 100% to 33%.
Over the course of the next hour it went down to 4% and I wasn't even using it.
What could be wrong with it?
I'm using Cyanogen Mod 9 or 10 I think if that helps.

You've flashed your phone but you don't even know what you've flashed? :what: I'm pretty sure, you've done something wrong
- experience7
It was a good while ago so I can't really remember, pretty sure its Cyanogen 9.
If I was to go to another ROM what one should I do?
I was just going to go onto Jellybean but I don't know if I should wait for the official release
I'm using JellyBam with Siyah kernel and it's great! Best ROM I've ever seen on my SGS2
- experience7
Is JellyBam basically Jellybean then? What does it miss from the official release
U have to flash another ROM and kernel, this happens on stock ROM, even when you talk more than 5-10 min . Also might be a modem problem, U can change it from a whole list from here http://veyka.co.uk/sgs2/radios/ ... there are winners or losers out there !
Okay I'm going to go out on a limb and just start over with the phone.
Could somebody tell me the best ROM for JellyBean? Also a good recommended modem because I have read that is what causes the overheating issues?

[Q] Battery

Hello, guys. My problem is this that when i go to bed my phone has 20-30% battery and i put it on charge and when i wake up it is on 40-50% and it doesn't want to move.It has been on charge around 7-8 hours. Then i have to plug it out and play a little bit to waste some of the battery and then to plug it back to charge to 100%.Do i have to change the firmware or what ?Thanks in advance.
Stock rom and kernel? If yes then try another charger and lead first.
Also, questions should be posted in the q&a forum to reduce clutter in here.

Continues then wipe battery stats .
Drain battery to zero charge fully drain again and charge fully then use as normal .
That is purely to rule out any wrong reporting and start the battery recalibrating .

This will do nothing. This is the biggest misconception in regards to Android Battery that XDA has ever seen.
Example of battery stats:
Screen on = 2h 40m
WiFi on = 5h 33m
Why does anyone think wiping these back to 0 will help anything? Charging the phone to 100% wipes the battery stats anyway.

HERE WE GO AGAIN PURE IGNORANCE .
IT wipes the battery stats how many times does it have to be repeated BATTERY STATS WIPE
IF you actually read the post you would see it was an attempt to return all to zero nothing to do with battery stats calibrating phone .You can read Diane Hackborns post in that regard just as i did the day it was posted . So dont come that battery stats crap with me .
Just giving the OP a zero state to work from does not matter if its duplicated or not zero start from the beginning rules out one possible fault area as unlikely as it may be .

Wow. At first I thought you were just rude and unhelpful but you're actually unknowledgable too.
What % the overall battery level reads at has nothing to do with "battery stats". Whether any individual system is at 0 or not is completely irrelevant to overall %. The OP does not need a "zero state". Stats and calibration are not linked at all. It rules out NOTHING (except perhaps any level of knowledge you were hoping to trick the OP into thinking you had) Try reading Diane's post properly before flaming!

Well its got me beat with this battery thing too..
It either barely charges at 100-400 mA or the phone is using more power than that and so it effectively discharges slightly even though connected to wall charger.
You can cross these things off the list as things I have tried so far:
>tried other chargers and leads
>took battery out for a while and put back and restarted
>wiped battery stats several times
>did a backup and wiped system/factory reset
>inspected and cleaned mini usb socket on phone
>tried all the battery calibration and charging apps
>tried charging to 100% even with phone switched off but it never got there even after 24hrs
>with and without siyah kernel
>done lots of yelling and hair pulling / tantrums
By the behaviours I dont suspect a dead battery. It seams like the phone is only asking for a low charge rate from the charger for whatever reason.
Please offer any suggestions you think will help narrow this down. I use cm nightlies.
When did it last work? Do you have a nandroid you can restore too?
It could be hardware. I stability generated by a faulty USB port.
I would be tempted to return it to stock. Problem still exists, send for repair. If not, it was software
