Hi!
Sorry for lame question, but ... why there are so many Samsung stock firmware versions for different PDAs? For example on sammobile web page, we have:
Code:
Model Country/Carrier Date Version PDA CSC Kies
GT-I9100 Nordic countries 2013 March I9100XWLSJ I9100OXXLS7
GT-I9100 Kazakhstan 2013 March 4.1.2 I9100XWLSE I9100OXELS6
GT-I9100 Baltic 2013 February 4.1.2 I9100XWLSD I9100OXFLS1
GT-I9100 Brazil 2013 February 4.0.3 I9100VJLPD I9100ZTOLP6
I have thought that PDA codes means some subtle differences in hardware, so there is need for different firmware. But according to advices on this forum, I have updated my phone with different stock firmware with different PDA and MODEM codes, and ... all (almost all) seems to work ok. There is also no difference in android version (all are for JB 4.1.2).
So, why is there such a mess? Couldn't Samsung (like Apple ) publish just one firmware for given combination of android and phone model?
Or maybe, despite the fact all those firmware are for JB 4.1.2, every later firmware contains some additional patches and bug fixes? If this is a true, should I try to replace my current firmware (XXMS1 from January 2013) with newest one (XWLSE from March 2013) and have a hope for fixed sleep of death problem I'm experiencing now? Sure I can just do it and see myself, but this time consuming (especially restoring all application and settings after upgrade) and I want to avoid this waste of time if this idea is completely wrong (I mean flashing just any official stock ROM intended for my model, but not necessary with the same PDA and MODEM codes)?
Best regards.

You have the same version I had when I bought my SGS2 in December via Phones4U on O2. This is not O2 firmware, it is Samsung's firmware. And that is the latest publicly released version. So annoying.....That is why my attention has been driven to XDA The latest stock firmware you can install is XWKL1, however I recommend a custom firmware as stock firmwares are buggy, battery not-friendly, and have tens of useless apps...
stock firmwares are buggy????????
That is nonsense .

Hello all,
I purchased Galaxy S2 last year in June in United Arab Emirates and have had following firmware:
PDA:KE2
PHONE: KE1
CSC: KE1 (ARB)
Kies still shows no updates for my device.
It is Gingerbread 2.3.3. It does not support Arabic (all Arabic text appears as blocks) even though it should.
It is not a carrier branded version. It is available in the country through only 1 official Samsung distrubutor. My friends who purchased the phone much later have different firmwares on their devices and have proper Arabic support and have had their phones updated through Kies few times.
What I feel is that there are different series of Galaxy S2 devices released in the country havind different firmware series. I purchased my device the very first day it was released here (pre-ordered).
I think that there are newer firmware updates for my device though I can not understand exactly which ones will work with my device. I am wondering why no updates have been made available on Kies.
Can anyone guide me to the exact firmware updates for my device (all 3 part; PDA, PHONE and CSC). Gingerbread 2.3.5 would be preferred. Or should I wait for Android ICS 4?
Thanks very much!
Just root your phone.

Forget kies it's terrible software.
Make sure you have a I9100 version of the phone the Read this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Learn how easy it is flashing firmware with Odin and find a good late version firmware to your liking. Then flash it.
You can flash your csc also to keep that if you need it. Carrier specific Stuff.
Also you can flash modems to see what gives you the best reception etc.
After you have done this kies will probably not work for updates anymore but you can download an app called checkfus from the market to check your carrier/region updates.
Hope this helps.

Did you purchase from UAE then I suggest you just take the phone to the service center they will upgrade to latest firmware for free. Else go to Intratech's thread and get the jpkj2 firmware. With XSG csc this one is for uae. The link is in my signature official firmware.

I'm confused about the right combination of Firmware and CSC to get official updates from Samsung through KIES or OTA. I read that your CSC and Firmware have to match to get KIES support but not for OTA support. It has been sent to Samsung Belgium for hardware failure and came back with a different firmware, same phone. I took screenshots of the info I think is relevant, the screenshot from KIES is when I choose initialise and give my serial number.
Can anyone tell me what the right codes/combination is for me:
Unlocked, unrooted GT-I9300, living in Belgium, bought from a store which origin is in Netherlands. So I might have a phone from the Netherlands.
I ask this because KIES tells me my phone is not supported for firmware update. And with 4.1 in the running I want in but the official way, so if i stop following these updates, KIES or OTA will warn me in the future.

KIES tells me my phone is not supported for firmware update : for sure because you have a Netherlands device. The latest firmware for this phone is : Netherlands / 2012 August / 4.0.4 / I9300XXBLH1 / I9300PHNBLH1. (As KIES says) It's Ice Cream Sandwich firmware.
But when we saw your screenshot, I think you have a United-Kingdom (BTU) firmware (OpenEurope) , probably the latest ICS UK ROM.
So it's normal that KIES cannot update because for it, you have Netherlands device with UK firmware.
Can you put here the output of this command (on phone dialer) : *#1234#
added *#1234# screenshot
Can I flash Netherlands / 2012 August / 4.0.4 / I9300XXBLH1 / I9300PHNBLH1 with odin without losing user data? I've read that there are rom-versions for odin that do not wipe your phone. Otherwise I just wait for the official netherlands jellybean firmware and do a full wipe/install of that rom when it's my turn.

I confim that you have OpenEurope (OXA) firmware. Normaly, you can flash Netherlands firmware without losing user data (non wipe firmware), but if you have a boot loop, wipe data and cache will be necessary. So keep your data in a safe place before flashing your phone.
Doesn't screenshot 3 tells me i'm on PRO (which is belgian csc).
So if I summerize is correct:
I have a UK firmware on Belgian PRO but I need Netherland firmware on Netherland PHN?
Can I make it fully Belgian PRO WITH kies support?
By flashing Belgium / Luxemburg - 2012 June - 4.0.4 - I9300XXALF5 - I9300PROALF1. Or is my serial number forever bound to PHN?

Yes, you have : United-Kingdom Firmware / Belgium CSC and Netherlands Devices.
For sure, you have strong galaxy S3.
If it provides from Netherlands, the model must be one thing like that : GT-I9300RWDPHN and it never changes when flashing ROM.
For changing it : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.johnan.spooffw (I don't know how it works, so be carefull)
For KIES, your phone must have PHN firmware. But you can use another one (without automatic KIES update). I don't recommend using Belgium/Luxemburg firmware because it was very old (compare to United-Kingdom firmwares).
If you want JellyBean, you can try the latest UK firmware XXDLJ4. If it doesn't work well on your phone, you go back on PRO firmware.
I think I going to wait until PHN jelly bean comes out. They say it is best to wipe going from ics to jb. Then I just wipe and flash the right one. Thanks dude.

Hi all
Sorry for the noob question I have searched but nothing gives me quite the correct answer.
I have a Galaxy s2 GT-I9100 that i have messed about with over the last year, a mate of mine is going to buy it but would like it Stock, fully back to factory spec so he can use Kies to check for software updates and the like. I have flashed the polish 4.0.3 ics rom and all is good but when I connect to kies it says .
Your devices current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via kies
PDA:LPQ / PHONE:LPQ / CSC:LPQ(XEU)
I followed the guide on galaxys2root when I original did it using this kernel CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5
The info from the phone is
Model
GT-I9100
Android version
4.0.3
Baseband version
I9100xxlpq
Kernel version
3.0.15-I9100xxlpq-cl223505 [email protected]#3
Build Number
IML74k.xxlpq.
I am downloading the UK/ireland XEU 4.0.4 rom at the moment if I flash this will it work or is there a stock kernel I have to load for this to work.
Many thanks for any help you can offer.

You have to flash to the stock rom, then it'll be unrooted like you just got it out of the box.
Hi everyone,
I'm in a conundrum. I've gone and soft-bricked my Samsung G3 I9300T and my attempts to flash it with various stock firmware have fallen flat. Can anyone offer me help or direct me to a thread (for dummies) for identifying which firmware would be suitable for my I9300 as I'm led to believe there are differences eg. ZSALED (Hong Kong) vs UBALE6 (Brazil).
Phone details:
Model: GT-I9300T
I've seen other threads posting AP, CP & CSC but I'm not sure how to obtain these details
I'm sorry for being ignorant. But many thanks for your time.
History of phone:
I purchased it off kogan a few years ago.
This is my first time rooting and flashing my S3 and everything's gone horribly wrong.
When I try to put it into recovery mode it will 'cycle' the Samsung Galaxy SIII title page but never reach recovery mode
I can put the phone into Download mode.
I've attempted to flash the phone with these firmwares:
-GT-I9300_TGY_I9300ZSALED_I9300OZSALED_I9300XXLEF.tar. md5
-CheckROM_V4_LG8.tar.md5 (from a thread: PM me if you'd like to know it)
-I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_I9300XXUGMK6_HOME.tar.md 5
(I use Odin3 v3.04-3.09 to flash these but everytime I run into a Fail)
Hi,
Could someone direct me to a thread that'll teach me the notation of firmware. B/c I still don't understand: the meaning of the designations for PDA & CSC.
Example
Model: GT-I9300
Country: United Kingdom
Version: Android 4.3
Changelist: 2168382
Build date: Thu, 28 Nov 2013 12:07:41 +0000
Product Code: BTU
PDA: I9300XXUGMK6 (What does XX, UGMK6 mean?)
CSC: I9300OXAGMK6 (similarly, what does OX, AGMK6 refer to?)
MODEM: I9300XXUGMK6
And what's the difference between Samsung Galaxy SIII International (firmware) I9300XXEMC2 & I9300XXUGNB4? (XX means Australia, but what do EMC2 or UGNB4 mean?
Again I apologise if I irritate some of you. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Kinetik

No reason why it shouldn't, its the same as the one infront of me. At any rate hopefully it repair your phone so you can maybe install your proper rom
