So basically i have a BRAND NEW vibrant and i think i softbricked it. (i can still boot into STOCK recovery)
i was trying to flash voodoo lag fix using androidspins instructions but failed i guess... NOW my phone is somehow COMPLETELY stock... and it wont boot past the vibrant screen!
i REALLY need this to work, and im a super newb, so adb terms and things wont really make sense to me unless written step by step lol
PLEASE HELP ME! im on a mac mini running leopard 10.5.8 so i cant use odin or w/e its called.
oh ya and i have a nexus one so if it can help in any way in fixing this problem that may help too?
How long did you wait for it to boot? It can take a few mins. You should be able to fix this alot quicker by searching thru the voodoo thread. Also having a mac shouldn't prevent you from using odin

I'm a newb I have no idea what that means. Sorry that's why I need help. Any step by step instructions anyone can give???
Launch odin select the corresponding files then plug phone in to computer and put in download mode. When usb indicator on the top of odin lights up your good to go. To get into download mode I remove the sim card, sd card and the battery. I put the battery back in hold the vol up and down and then plug the usb in.
Search for the stock rom thread to get the odin files. There should be directions in there and in the bible thread as well.
Also if you haven't already you should install the android sdk for mac. Just google it
You have a vibrant its 99% unbrickable. Odin is your first problem. Recovery mode. Clear cache. Wipe user data. Reboot phone. Just a question why the hell are ppl still using Odin... makes me laugh.. I'm currently runny de-odexed 1.2ghz .. 2530 quadrant score my vibrant is so sexy I want to hump it. .. LOL

Cool story, bro. My 1.2ghz is sitting at 2743 quadrant guess I'm cooler than you. (Pst Quadrant dont mean anything).
ANYWAY back on topic, Since your on a mac you would need to run ODIN over parallels unless there is a mac version that I'm unaware of. Google parallels for mac, it allows you to run windows based programs on a mac. Then look at the ODIN threads in the bible stickied in this forum. Follow the instructions carefully and you'll be fine.
LOL.. hope it works out.. hate to see an awesome phone become a paper weight.
Gotta say xda is awesome

I'm guessing he tried to flash voodoo thru the update.zip method so unless he can push the stock update or what have you. Using recovery will only keep trying to re-install voodoo I'm guessing. So the best way to fix it is odin.

Wow, a LOT of misinformation here
First of all, you CANNOT run ODIN on Mac.

You CANNOT use ODIN via Parallels on Mac. You can install it and run it, but it will NOT recognize your Vibrant in Download mode which is necessary. I am not guessing, I know for a fact- I tried intensely for 3 days before learning that it's just not possible. And Parallels is a program that simulates a Windows machine on your Mac.
You COULD use ODIN on your Mac only if you run Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp. It's not a super-easy process if you aren't tech savvy, you also need to purchase (or otherwise obtain) a full version of Windows, so you're better off finding a real Windows computer. In case you're curious, additional info on Boot Camp http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

This poster = IDIOT. Wow, you're Quadrant score is so useful to know, very helpful for this guy, and I'm sure there are many who read your contribution and had to sit down in AWE to take in just how cool you and your Quadrant score are. Laughing because of ODIN? Well, Slick, it's gonna be necessary for this guy (and myself) to save our phones. Recovery> wipe data> wipe cache WILL NOT WORK at this point. Yes, the Vibrant is close to unbrickable- but not completely immune. Besides, this guy's Vibrant is soft-bricked, as is mine. Yes, it can happen, and yes, you need ODIN via true windows to fix. Go away and run some Quadrant tests.
Once you get in front of a Windows machine, here is a great step-by-step on how to fix your phone via ODIN http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475 I haven't done it yet, will be later today once I get in front of WIndows.
Android SDK and ADB will not help you at this point either, although they're great to learn for future Android fun.
Good luck- I know first hand how frustrating this is.
ok so is there ANY other way i can get this vibrant to boot? via adb or ANYTHING???
Easy way ....find a friend with windows
sorry about odin not working with a mac. Thought android sdk might load some usb drivers for you...saw that somewhere I think. However, according to lp1527 seems you will need windows or linux. Maybe you could try bootcamp with ubuntu since thats free.
Going out on limb but maybe using adb to remove the update.zip and replacing it with the stock update.zip and flashing that through recovery might work? or try to push the voodoo uninstall .txt first and see if does anything.

I had this same exact problem with mine. Use Odin (refer to Bible section if needed). Odin is very easy to use. Here's what you do:
1. Open Odin v.1.3
2. Download stock Odin stock firmware. This link is for the JI2 leaked release. if you want original JFD then do a search. This link has both the .tar ROM and 512 Pit file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780935
3. In Odin click on PIT button and open 512 pit file.
4. With your phone powered off and unplugged from pc, hold in both volume keys and then plug in the usb cord (whioch is already connected to your pc). After a few seconds your phone is in download mode (bright yellow on screen)
5. Check to make sure Odin has detected your phone by verify it has populated the port setting (towards the top in yellow) refer to Odin link in Bible page if unsure
6. Click on PDA and open the .tar ROM file
7. Click start
8. Sit back and wait to Odin to finish. It will reboot your phone automatically for you.

Good to know, I don't own a mac but thought it might work under parallels. Thanks for the info.
ok heres my problem:
i was trying to disable the ryanza oclf alpha 1 build with the unlagfixme batch file that came in the .zip in anticipation of the update. in the process as it was copying the files from ext2 to rcf or somethign like that, my phone rang. instead of just letting it go, i freaked and tied to reject the call. this caused my superuser permission to force close. tried to run a couple more times, but the superuser would not recognize anything. i rebooted the phone expecting the worst, and got it. now it wont boot past the galaxy s screen. i would like to just get back to stock, just like it was when it came out of the box, so i can receive the tmobile ji6 update, but admittedly don't know what i am doing. anyone with the patience to explain to me how to fix it? you can even ridicule me all you want. thanks.
The short answer, you will need to setup odin and flash the stock rom. All the needed links are in the ' vibrant directory (bible)' thread under the development section.
1) install the windows drivers for the vibrant on your computer.
2) download odin and the stock rom.
3) run odin
4) enter download mode on you phone
5) flash the stock rom
6) smile because you fixed a brick
Follow the links in the bible thread for more specific details, as I don't want to rewrite what has been written.
Hope this helps.

thanks, but now it seems i am having trouble getting into download mode as well. when i ran the root update.zip i got to it a million times no problem. could this be because in the middle of freaking out, i got it into recovery mode and reloaded the packages?
also if i have kies, i should already have the drivers correct?
if you are at the Gal S screen, ADB should be able to read the phone.
just run adb reboot download
ADB starts to see the phone while still on the vibrant screen for me
lol...i realize i am not sounding any smarter but where do i get adb?
ok so i got the sdk, and adb was included in that. but when i go to run the adb application, it opens and closes what looks like the command window immediately? pretty confused right now. like i said, i am definitely new at all this.

Hello,
I keep on trying to search, but search function is not working at this time, for how to receive the 2nd update for 2.1 for the Samsung Vibrant that we received in October. I had to recently flash my phone using Odin3 back to stock, but it was the very first launch stock. I am trying to find the second the update with the task manager and the gps fix. Sorry, but still am a noob at this. Any help is greatly appreciated
*Please note, I am running on Mac right now*

So, update us. How did it go?
sorry been stuck because of finals this week. I still have it at 2.1 without the update.
I have been trying to use ODIN to flash to the JI6 file, but it does not read the modem.bin and goes to the factory.rfs and stays there forever.
I am not sure if I should load the PIT file i used to restore to factory settings, but I tried it with both.
ODIN with tar and Pit
and
ODIN with tar only
If using windows vista or windows 7. When you open odin, right click it and run as administrator instead of double clicking on it. If using windows xp, try unplugging all other usb connections while trying to flash.

If you are refering to the 2.1-update1 go to www.samfirmware.com - sign up. Download the one right after JFD and i believe it is the one you are looking for, using ODIN, flash the file after reverting to stock yet again. Hope this helped.

I am running on EA28 firmware. all the threads tell about DL09. any difference?
Not to be an ass or anything, but if you can't figure out how to root the phone, find a stickied thread, or what needs done to flash ROMs, than you should stay away from 2.2 until you can. Odds are, you'll end up flashing something you shouldn't and it will be harder to get back to a working phone. Read through the threads and stickies first and gain an understanding of how to accomplish whatever it is you want to do.

I was able to root while on EA28, but make sure you read the "Note to Stock Users" at the bottom of the first post on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913470
If you are new to rooting or new to rooting this phone, you really need to read the instructions carefully (no skimming!) a few times before starting. It took me about three hours to root and install DL30 the night I got my phone (including time I goofed things up).
Good luck!

You're in the right place, but you really should heed the advice you've already been given and read what's available before you make a costly mistake...
I started with the same stock configuration as you. Thanks to several hard-working devs (adrynalyne; jt1134 and others willing to document steps for us noobs), I'm now running Froyo with all the functionality I've been after since I bought this thing... Honestly, it's like a new phone.
EVERY question and glitch along the way had already been addressed on these forums - it's all there for the searching.
Also, I gather that folks will more patiently assist you if you *do* get into a fix if it appears you're willing to first RTPFM (read the proverbial f#$%^&* manual .
best of luck with it.

Hey guys I need some help here.
I have the SCH-i605, and I tried to root it. Something went very wrong and now when I try to turn it on it simply flashes the Samsung Galaxy Note II screen. I can power+home+volume down to get it into the download screen. But my computer doesn't recognize it. Any ideas? Your help is greatly appreciated.
I'm in the same boat and it has to be a driver issue. I've uninstalled and reinstalled so many times that both pc's are on strike. I'm seriously stuck in download mode only and odin isn't seeing the phone either. Can someone talk me off this ledge? Many thanks to this forum. Julie
(I've tried all the return to stock stuff that worked once then stopped)

Yep-- turns out to be a fatal error.
I had the same issue last night after trying to use CASUAL root method. After reading a lot of posts I was able to find that by using ODIN and flashing only the PIT file from the other rooting post I was able to get the phone back up.
If you are having trouble with ODIN seeing the device go on and remove the drivers for your device and then try again.
I can get links to the posts if needed, just on my device and would be easier from computer.

You are correct. I was looking around and noticed the same thing about the PIT file. I tried my computer at my office, and it could see my phone just fine. In fact using the Odin3v185, I was able to get my phone back with the PIT file and root my phone with the root66 file. I flashed back to 4.1.1, then rooted it.
