Multimedia Texting - AT&T LG Optimus G

When I attach pictures to an instant message, the message never seems to go through. I tried with the stock messenger and with handcesnt. It first says it will reduce the size of the image, then it is attached and when I send it just indicates it is uploading (the little progress circle animation), but it never seems to finish. Uploads work fine in other applications and this issue is the same with both WiFi and LTE connectivity. I am running SnowJB v1.1 (4.1.2). I searched the LGOG forums for: texting pictures and found nothing. I tried to post this in the Snow JB thread, but I am too new to post there so I put it here. Any help appreciated.

You'll have to change your APN settings. I don't have the right settings but it's listed multiple times in the SnowJB thread.

Thanks, found the settings and it worked.
Only thing, is I now have two APN's with the same name. Could I rename the new one ATT2 to differentiate, or would changing anything from the instructions, including the name, affect it somehow. I would think the name wouldn't matter, but the instructions had said to give it the same name as the default APN, so maybe it matters.
Again, thanks for the help.

[Q] Change Carrier name in banner on Straight Talk?

I've been looking for days now, tried everything out there, still no luck. I'm on Straight Talk and I'm using a rooted i717 Samsung Galaxy Note (AT&T) and tried pretty much every method that there is, tried all three versions of the carrier name app. Trying to get it to something besides "HOME" in the banner but every method I try doesn't work.
Any help is appreciated, thank you!
P.s. I'm on stock

Im not sure which apps your already tried..maybe if would be helpful if you posted them but...anyways check this out
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/change-carrier-name-on-android-phone-easily-how-to-guide/
That was the app that I did try. Also tried changing the build.prop and there was some other esi.xml I tried to change and those methods didn't work. Hopefully something easier comes along on ICS.

**** man :/ well ill keep looking..i dont really have a use for this but its always good to mod little things like the carrier name
Thanks! I'm starting to think it's the SIM itself. Because I tried all three versions of the app you posted and when it says "original carrier" or whatever it says nothing is by that like it should show.
I'm also on Straight Talk and never found a way to do it on stock. However, I did flash unofficial CM9 and it pops up as AT&T for the carrier banner. As a plus they even had the APN settings pre-installed.

What do users in other countries see? When I am in Mexico I use a Telcel sim card and the banner reads AT&T-Telcel.
Anyone found anyway to change the carrier name while on StraightTalk? Thx in Advanced!

[Q] Wind Mobile Canada members

Hello, I would like to have a thread for Wind Mobile customers in Canada using the HTC amaze.
Specifically at this point I would like to know what ROM everyone is using and do they have mms working.
I have only been able to get mms working on NRG's Aug 6 ROM.
I would love a more AOSP ROM but am stuck if I want mms.
(also I have noticed the apn recommendations for Wind do NOT look correct in the thread for apn's as it suggests 1 apn for both internet and mms)
Please join this thread and share any experiences you have and I hope this helps others besides myself.
Especially since I think our phone is still great and I don't know of any reason to switch or upgrade at this point.
Have you tried the one APN even if it doesn't look right?

Thanks for reply and suggestion
To be honest I haven't tried in a long time and I did not try this morning when I was trying the Fourth Bar Infusion ROM.
I guess I have assumed that how I have the apn's on the NRG ROM is how they need to be as it works
However, I suppose it is possible that the apn's need to be different if the ROM is different or de-sensed.
Could this be?
Has anyone out there with Wind got mms to work on a ROM other than NRG's and if so, how did you do it.
May give it another try tonight if I have time.

Does anyone think that if I use the 1 apn for both internet and mms and it does NOT work on the NRG ROM it MAY work on a different ROM?
and or vice versa?
I'm not with wind, but I've had problems with certain roms not being able to send mms, but it was usually something screwy with the mms.apk. If I swapped it out for one that I had working from a different rom, I'd have no issues, but yeah, only one apn for both data and mms.
try swapping in an aosp mms.apk on your energy rom and see if it works. Extract it from fourth bar, or speed rom even. rename it to mms1 or whatever, that way you'll have both working to test back to back.

Do you mean that yes, you only 1 apn for internet and mms looks OK or it does NOT look OK?
I can try an AOSP mms apk and see if I can get it to work along with the original one in my NRG ROM.
I know I tried taking the mms apk from the NRG ROM and putting it on another ROM I tried and it would NOT work.
Thanks for ideas and I will continue to try things.
yeah, only one apn for both, they are set up so that anything mms related is set up through the one apn. The only time you'd need another is if you're swapping between sim card from a different carrier, for example I have a bell apn set up so if I want to swap in my work sim in my phone I'm ready to go with data and all.
What other roms have you tried? I've tried some and found mms to be an issue, esp. on some of the speed rom versions.

yup I have an amaze.
This mms.apk works for mms on my end, paste it in your current rom /system/app folder and if mms is working in your current rom mms.apk, then it should work for this one. If it does work, then copy your apn exactly as is in another rom, and paste this apk in the same folder, and it should work.

[Q] Mobile data issues with UltimaRom 6.0.2

I've been using UltimaRom for some time now and love it! But recently updated my Galaxy S3 to the latest version only to find mobile data not working.
I tried flashing previous versions, doing full wipes as i went but still couldn't get it back.
I've ended up using odin to flash stock back on and data is working again.
I tried going straight to to the latest UltimaRom but the same problem has occured.
Any suggestions?
Hello,
I'm using the same rom, but I don't have that problem, however I do have a suggestion.
On your current rom, got to:
System settings - More settings - Mobile networks - Acces Point Names, and click on the one that's there.
Inside that there should be one called "apn".
Write that down somewhere, and when you flash Ultimarom again, go into the same place and paste the info. (it should look something like this: www.Internet.mtelia.dk or: websp, it depends on your carrier)
It sounds like the new version somehow doesn't have the correct apn setting and so you will have to set it up manually.
Hope this helps.

thanks i'll give that a go.
is it just the field named apn i need? just checked and there's a bunch of information in there.
Depending on your carrier you can log in to their site and get the settings texted to your phone, and install it from there.
I'm with T-Mo and I did it that way to save writing things down. Just choose the settings for internet and MMS.

As far as I know all you need is the apn field.
Very few carriers use different values than the default as far as I know.
Worst case is that you have to check on the website of your carrier to see the full apn, but I think it should be fine.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
yeah most carriers setting are the same, just the username and password for your carrier you need
go to there website and request the setting to be sent to the phone then save them.
it how I did it. good luck. :good:
everything is working perfectly now, thanks to all for the quick responses and helpful info.

Rename customer.xml and you get bubble notifications back on lockscreen.
Enable call blocking (Not blocking mode), add this to feature.xml:
<!--Call Blocking -->
<CscFeature_Setting_EnableMenuBlockCallMsg>true</CscFeature_Setting_EnableMenuBlockCallMsg>

Cool, I appreciate the help. I found out after further research that you can go in to settings>application settings>all>help and then just disable that. That worked for me to get rid of the constant helpful tip.
Well I copy pasted the code into the features.xml file for the various Web browser additions, like perma-Desktop view mode and show user agent profile under advanced settings. But none of them worked. I looked through the web section to make sure there were no countering duplicates, and there wasn't.
I went ahead and rebooted into recovery, wiped cahce/dalvik, fixed permissions and booted back up and no go. Anyone get these settings working?

See, you shouldn't need to copy anything in, but simply change trues to false and so forth. If you pasted a line in, I'd be suspicious that you have the line in there already overriding the new one. Most of the CSC features are already in the file.

Yeah I checked through for duplicate lines and didn't see any of the 3 lines that I added before pasting them in.
Just to add to the mix, somehow adding 3 lines that affected the browser only, I found that my Samsung keyboard symbol overlay was missing. So I just deleted my custom features.xml and restored the backup and it's all back to normal again. Was also seeing wierdness with MMS with the modified xml as well.
Anyway I'll look again just to be sure, but trying to decide if I really care enough for it at this point.
Update: yeah for sure there isn't a single duplicate. I copied the XML to my desktop and searched through with keywords and there was nothing that matched. Then read through it line by line and saw a few entries that seem similar in purpose, but are worded differently. I am unsure how to modify these or which one I should modify at all to get the desired affect, so I am leaving it alone for now.
Ironically enough however I found a solution to an annoying "feature" that's been plaguing me for awhile now. Whenever I toggle to Camcorder or open up the camera app into Camcorder, it would ask me what video mode I want to shoot in. This was driving me nuts, and sure enough it's being caused by a CSC feature. Well I false'd it up and yay no more annoying popup. Problem is, just like with the web browser changes/additions to feature.xml, whenever I modify the file all of a sudden a bunch of other things break including MMS and my keyboard's symbol overlay. Wtf =/ It's so frustrating being right there and having the solution to one problem, and then opening up a can of worms in another.
I could understand if I somehow modified parts to the keyboard CSC, and that would be why it's breaking, but I'm not. I'm going in, finding ONE line, and changing true to false. That's it. Why is this breaking other parts of my CSC? Any ideas Adrynalyne?

I have a feeling it is the editor you are using.
Things like notepad add extra characters to files which can invalidate the entries and cause other errors. Try something like notepad ++.

Two Notes One Problem

I have two galaxy notes.. and one sends MMS just fine the other doesn't they both receive and both have data access.
I am switching my StraightTalk Sim between the phones to test and i have confirmed about 800 times the APN settings are exact. But to no avail one works one doesn't... THe only difference is the version of Flapjaxx rom i am running ones a version newer.
I have the same thing with my FJ 4.2.2 ROM. MMS won't receive but will send. Other than that, I love the ROM.
The APN settings that come with a ROM are in an XML file (just a text file, really). If there is an extra space or blank character in that file the APN setting will be wrong. You won't even see it if its at the end of a line.
In the phone with Flapjaxxx ROM make another APN, save it, and use it. When you verify it works correctly for data and MMS, delete the other.
