Hi everyone,
We have a Verizon Droid X2 which has been operating very slowly for a few months.
I was thinking that a factory reset might help, however we are roaming in Canada with the phone right now.
Does the phone need access to the Verizon network to be configured for operation again after a factory reset?
Does a factory reset wipe the updated PRL list, etc.? What will happen if we do it from Canada?
if you data/factory reset, phone will need to be reactivated (*228)
whether you can do that roaming, depends on what kind of agreement verizon has with carriers in your area
you would be better off, removing all apps and reinstalling one at time
is phone stock, rooted, android version 2.3.5?

Here in my area of Canada, Verizon is currently using Telus as a roaming partner. We tried the *228 and it doesn't work here. It would definitely need the Verizon network for that. Nearly all of the phones in Canada have been using SIM cards for the programming since 2008.
I did uninstall a bunch of apps the last time I had my hands on the phone a few months ago, but it didn't help the performance at all.
The phone is stock, unrooted, and has whatever the latest version of Android is for that device.
I've never changed a phone to an alternate ROM before, mostly because every time I look up the instructions for a particular device and think I've found a guide I can follow, I read the comments and everyone is asking how to make this work, make that work, etc. And it seems too annoying to get into.
It belongs to a family member, who isn't really comfortable with doing a factory reset, etc. So I was hoping to be able to fix it myself.
She is going to get a new device in the next few months, but in the meantime we need the phone to be working and reliable and a factory reset is the only thing I could think of.

My co-workers phone service got cut off recently, and after it was re-connected, she lost 4G. I had her on Synergy 255 and had the latest radios I found which was CDMA: 1.48.00.0906 LTE: 0.01.78.0906. Even when I updated her to Synergy 262, the problem persisted.
Anyone know what might have happened, I know the recent OTA update for gingerbread has been giving people problems, is it possible the OTA update problem also affected her phone since she was already in gingerbread?
I just put BAMF Forever 1.0.7 on her phone, and it's still only able to connect to 3G, is the problem on verizon's side?
Check your settings in say an app like LTE on/off make sure she is in LTE mode or cdma/LTE

tried to put her on LTE mode only a few time before, and she can only get 1x speed.
Unroot it, return to stock with the full RUU and see if its busted. If it is you probably have a bad radio in the phone...I had to send my first TB back a week after I got it for this reason.....
Customer service was very helpful believe it or not, just make sure you tell them you have already done a hard reset on the phone, done the OTA's and 4G still doesn't work. The will ask you your build number, etc. to make sure it matches what's "in the system".
So just return to unrooted Froyo, do any and all upgrades to get it current, if it still doesn't work you should be able to get a new phone.

I'm hoping I don't have to go there, but it seems I'm not the only one with the problem, since I found some people with similar dilemma on the radio thread.

Sim card
Another idea is that the sim card is dead.
Verizon 4G sim cards can't be reactivated once their deactivated, this happens when you try activate a 3G phone on verizon from a 4G phone, the sim will be dead in 24 hours, I'm guessing the problem may be the same here, once the SIM was disconnected in the system, it can't be reactivated.
Unfortunately to get a new sim, you'll still have to return to unrooted stock to get support from Verizon, but I expect the phone itself is just fine.
Verizon employees are still somewhat inexperienced dealing with these 4G sim cards from what I've seen in stores, so they may have failed to account for that when they reactivated the service.
That seems more likely to me than the phone just happened to break when the service was disconnected.
Did you ever try just flashing another radio? It's worth a try. I would try flashing the radios from the 1.70.605.0 build.

You we're exact on the mark about the sim registration. I told her to replace the sim. And sure enough it worked after it was activated. Glad I didn't I have to resort to going stock and unrooting... She probably would've beat me up...

Wasnt sure where to post this and coulnd't find anything about it so sorry if this has been addressed.
I am going to afghanistan and I am on my way thru kuwait. I activated my global roaming capabilities and got a GSM roaming signal on my Verizon RAZR in Germany and Kuwait so far.
Problem is this.
I have been in kuwait for 5 days now. The first 3 days I had a roaming signal no problem. The 4th day my roaming signal went away and has refused to come back. I am in the same area that I had a great roaming signal at before.
I am able to do a manual search on my phone for GSM networks near me and it finds Zain and Wataniya but when I try to connect they say they are unavailable.
I tried a local wataniya sim card and it picked up a signal right away.
I have talked to verizon, reseated the sim, wiped cache and wiped dalvik no change. Will do a nandroid backup tonight and factory wipe and restore my data to see if that helps.
But I just dont get a signal with the verizon sim anymore. Not sure what the problem is here.
Any ideas or suggestions on things to try would be greatly appreciated.
I will reply as soon as I can as internet is not nearly as readily available here as it is in the states and I will be on a plane to afghanistan in a couple of days.
I am just hopeing I can get this issue resolved or atleast come to the conclusion that my verizon sim if fried before i leave kuwait.
Thanks for all your time.
Imho, this issue has got nothing to do with razr. The problem you face must be because your original carrier may not have roaming tie-ups with the carriers you are trying to select. Or the local carriers in Kuwait may not be allowing foreign SIMs.
You could try putting your SIM in someone else's phone to confirm.

I think Sims can go bad when in roaming. If this is the case, you have to change it. It happened to me once.

Actually it had nothing to do with the sim or the carriers around here. I tried to every possible troubleshooting step that I could with no luck.
So after I posted this I ran a nandroid backup and hit the phone with a factory reset then restored only my data and the signal has returned.
There must be some file that got corrupted or got the wrong config during a transition between one of these roaming towers at some point and the factory reset fixed it.
I am back up and running again and all is well.
On a side note verizon tech support is utterly useless.
Thanks For the replies!
I am running the newest version of viper 4g, 2.02 on my LTE. We had an upgrade so I thought I would try out the galaxy S3, dont ask me why. I was going to give my daughter the LTE. They put the new phone on my phone number and when they tried to put my daughters number on the LTE they never could get it to work. After making several attempts at puting my daughters number on the LTE without any success they said the problem was the phone was rooted and they gave me the phone back.
Do I need to go back to stock to solve this problem? Any help or ideas I would be very grateful.
Thanks.
Factory reset should work. It isn't because your phone is rooted. That changes nothing. Try a stock rom and/or a factory reset.
A factory reset won't help, but you may have to load a stock style rom. Viper is a probably too customized for the Sprint rep to figure out. Being rooted has nothing to do with it.

They did a factory reset in the store and that didnt help. I will install a different ROM and see if they can get it going from there. Thanks.
Anyone know which ROM is closest to stock?
Yeah, just flash the stock odexed rom and you will be able to activate it.
http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...Stock-Rooted-Based-on-Latest-OTA-(Odexed-Only)
Flashed that ROM and took back to sprint and it activated perfectly. They had me worried for a minute yesterday, that had never happened to me before and I have been flashing roms for years. Mostly windows mobile stuff though, glad android is no different. Thanks for the replys.
stay home
Next time call Sprint, they can do the activation on the phone if you ave the ESN number. Gas is expensive
Or swap from the website, they don't charge activation fees for their sweet swap feature.
My motorola xt912's headphone Jack and Camera does not work. This happened after doing a system update a while back. I have read that I have to do a factory reset to get it back to the original software.
However, my phone is unlocked. I took it in to get it done and that store no longer exists. So I would not be able to unlock it again (for the Canadian Network). Would resetting it to factory settings get rid of the "unlock"?
Thank you!

I am in the US and was told by Verizon that the XT912 was sold unlocked (or was unlocked when it was updated to ICS). I don't know how to confirm that although on a recent trip to Canada I was able to buy a sim and use the phone to make calls on the Virgin Mobile Canada network so I'm pretty sure it is unlocked.
I never could get data to work in Canada though. There was a fix in the last official OTA from Verizon that sounded like it may address the data problem, but I have not had a chance to test that out.
I suggest you contact your carrier and see if they can confirm if the phone will stay unlocked after a factory reset. I suspect it will because a factory reset just clears user data and resets your phone back to default factory settings (I don't think it reflashes the firmware), but I'm not positive about that.

Not the same as this thread I think: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/help/problem-lte-4g-t3815924
I had been running an unofficial LineageOS build for a week or so, when I realized my 4G just stopped working, and I was stuck with 3G. I didn't make any changes that I was aware of. I tried a wipe, a reset of network settings. I have reflashed a complete stock image to see if that does the trick... And, no, still stuck at 4G. I've got a logcat of what is seen when enabling/disabling airplane mode, but nothing really stands out to me (and I honestly don't know what to look for).
I have called my carrier, U.S. Cellular, to try to figure this out... They did a few things on their end, had me do *228 and power cycle, and then recommended a factory reset. Since this is a BYOD phone, they won't really support much beyond that.
What the heck happened?
