Is it possible to add a custom kernel to stock without loading a complete custom rom? I actually like the stock setup and hate to tinker when it is working well (running latest Jellybean ota, rooted), but would like to have hotplug governor to save battery life. Or, am I just ignorant?

Noobie question,
Can we use CPU adjusting applications without a custom kernal?
Not really, since it's the custom kernels that add the extra features that the app accesses and let's you pick and choose what you want to customize the kernel.
Yes you can if your phone is rooted use SetCPU from the market here https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5taHVhbmcub3ZlcmNsb2NraW5nIl0.
or from here http://www.4shared.com/file/H6quF_2K/setcpu__2302_.html
custom kernels is betetr because all this should be tweaked in the rom but for stock as long as its deodexed then your good
Hi guyz,
I have simple question here..Im using ST15I - unlocked - rooted- with custom kernel and ROM..I want to know that is it possible to flash a custom kernel and the stock rom..?
Is battery life depends on the kernel or the Rom.?
Because every custom ROM which I tested was good...but after few days it gave me problems like getting slow,Force close, freezing touch screen, stuck menu's,..etc.
So I wonder if there any chance to use a stock rom with a custom kernel for better performance..?
tnx
Sure, there is an option to use stock ROM and custom kernel, but they have to be compatible. I'm afraid any of CM kernels will work on stock ROM, but there's plenty of options - Lupus ICS, Extended stock kernel, MESA etc. And yes, battery life depends on kernel. Some of them are battery friendly, some of them not. But in general any custom kernel should work at least the same time as stock one (from my experience).
Bt battery life is also depended on ron, apps,3g, wifi and usage and a bunch of other things and yes depended on kernel too.
Yes stock rom and custom kernel can be done if they are compatible

Thank you gyz.....
What does a kernel do when it comes to android phone performance? Is it wise to use stock kernel over custom ones (CM etc)?

The kernel is the most fundamental part of ur OS. It is mainly responsible for communicating with ur phone's hardware e.g processor, camera, etc. Stock kernels often tend to be stable however they do not offer overclocking abilities. Custom kernels on the other hand, allow for overclocking and have scripts to boost performance and even screen color. However, stock kernels often provide better battery life as compared to custom ones. Once u switch from a stock rom to a custom rom, u would most likely be using a custom kernel anyways. Hope that helps
compared to keeping stock samsung rom?
Just being rooted on a stock rom will not give you this ability. You also need a custom kernel and an app to control the settings, such as Kernel Aduitor.
Hi,
previously I was on Sony Xperia devices but now I switched to Samsung S9 +.
The first thing that struck me is the bad battery life.
I've been reading on how to solve this and I will at least do a full reset and clean install to see if this helps.
But if this does not help I want to know what to try next.
CUSTOM ROM
For what I have found the custom roms do not use the second camera and that's something I do not want to lose.
So are there Custom roms that keep the original functionality from the camera?
CUSTOM KERNEL
If installing a custom rom isn't the way to go, what about a customer kernel?
So far I found two of them
ElementalX
Nemesis
And there is one html with an explanation about the speed and battery usage of the Exynos chip.

There is speculation whether Samsung will do something about battery usage as there seems to be a solution if Samsung does some ROM changes.
For now I think installing a custom kernel is my best option but what about OTA.
Once rooted I will not receive them anymore, can I just download the now ROM from Samsung and install it over the existing one without resetting the phone?
And once the ROM is installed reinstall the custom kernel?
I'm open to other suggestions to improve battery life.
