[Q] AT&T GNote on T-mobile service(signal & Odin issues) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I bought my girlfriend an unlocked at&t note for use with T-Mobile. She is having a bad echo when making and taking calls. And even when she is not on the phone sometimes it goes straight to voicemail when someone calls her. It is on the stock 2.3.6, nonrooted firmware. So I figured if I updated to ics or jb that might help and I want her to be on up to date android. My problem is when I try to update to ICS 4.0.4 with Kies it will go through all the motions but when the phone goes into download mode it is no longer recognized by the computer and the update stalls an the phone just sits in Odin mode. I've tried to refresh the stock Odin tar using Odin but the same problemarises the computer won't recognize the phone while it's in download mode. I know the drivers are installed because when I plug in the phone it will pop up autoplay but it just doesn't work while the phone is in download mode. PLEASE any help is welcomed because I want my girl to STFU with all her complaiBing. Many thanks in advance

If you still have the stock ATT modem on the device, you need to flash the blaze modem for T-Mobile ...(my advice )
You will need to push a CWM recovery image to the device.( effectively giving you root access ).
Then download the blaze modem .zip from the super thread in the general section, and flash the modem with your new clockwork mod recovery.
Odin can be picky with devices. Make sure you have the latest Odin version, and it's clean.
Next, you need the correct cable ...(stock Samsung cable )...if possible.
Next ....only use a rear pc mainboard port, not a front low priority port.
This often causes time out errors, as priority tasks will close non-priority ports.
Odin is also susceptible to anti-virus programs, and you should temporarily turn off these programs when using Odin, then turn them on when finished.
The super thread has many links to other threads describing the "how to " aspects of T-Mobile connection, and they will help as well.
And lastly ....tell the little lady that STFU means ...I've almost got it done ....LOL ...
Happy flashing ....g

I use heimdall personally. Never had any problems with it. Do you have all the sgs2 drivers installed?
Also check md5 sums to make sure your download is ok.
Sent from my SGH-I777
I'll try heimdall. Drivers should be fine as kies is installed. Rom should be good as I've tried 2 different download sources
Make sure you install the libusb drivers for heimdall before flashing. The instructions are in the heimdall readme. Good luck

Just wanted to post that my problem is solved.
Summary: My AT&T Galaxy SII showed an error on boot (software upgrade failed. connect to kies...). Kies wouldn't even recognize the device so that route was a no go. So as everyone's recommended method of last resort, I decided to flash the device back to stock via odin. I entered download mode (volume up + volume down and plug in usb) and Odin would recognize the device, I would load the stock rom in the PDA slot and hit start and it would begin normally, but it would always fail after a few seconds on 'NAND write start', or 'factoryfs.img'. So I got a 1 click download solution using odin for reverting my phone back to stock. Same thing, it would recognize the phone, but stall out and fail. I also tried flashing clockworkmod via odin but and same problem. People recommended I try heimdall. It would recognize my device, and then fail after 'kernel 100%'.
I tried both programs on 3 different computers, and must have tried 12 different USB slots amongst all of them. I'm fairly handy with this stuff and I worked for hours on it.
xtra info: I had successfully used odin on my computer to flash a kernel just a week ago so I know my stock usb cable was working etc...
Resolution: So I hung my head and drove to the ATT store. After pressing a few buttons on the device and not getting anywhere they sent me to a nearby Device Support Center. I told the girl at the counter that my phone booted to this error screen and that connecting it to Kies did nothing. She asked if it was ok that in the case that she couldn't fix it she would offer me a replacement. I said that was fine and after 10 minutes in the back room she came out with a replacement (free of charge).
Well that was the good news. For the bad news, unfortunately I still don't know how to fix the problem I had, and don't really know how to avoid it in the future. I thought phone's could only get truly bricked if you messed with PIT files and such. There didn't seem to be anything more I could do than flash with odin or heimdall as those were already last resorts. I know I had the right files, the right drivers, and working usb. No matter how crazy I got with my iphone, a full restore was only a click away by plugging in to iTunes. Somehow I messed up my phone so bad that even the device support center couldn't fix it....? Shouldn't have had to be like that.
Thank yous: Thanks to ATT for having a walk-in store and for so easily offering up a replacement. Thanks to the many people on the web who offered remedies.
tl;dr - phone broke, att replaced, still a mystery

[Q] Only able to get to download screen - Not showing in Odin or Kies

I've searched everywhere and can't find an answer to my problem.
GT-I9100 (Sprint)
I hate to admit I am somewhat of a noob. But pretty good at following instructions. I tried to install ics using Odin.
PDA –—> I9100_CODE_I9100XXKPA_CL51925_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Phone –—> MODEM_I9100XXKPA_REV_02_CL1094591.tar.md5
CSC –—> GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OXAKPA.tar.md5
The first instructions I read din't say to do the pit file. So I didn't. I have read later that I should have. The process failed. And when I restarted the phone I can only get to the download screen. When I try to get to recovery I get "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I also get the same message if I simply plug the usb into the phone while off, before any buttons are pushed.
Neither Kies or Odin recognize the phone anymore. I've tried different USB ports, a different computer. And I've hooked up a friends AT & T Galaxy S2 and it's recognized fine. Neither computer I've used even makes the beep when you hook up the phone.
The short is since it connected before the flash, and the other phone is showing I'm confident it's not PC related. But not being able to get anywhere besides the download screen has my hands tied to do anything else.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! And I have searched all over and can only find similar problems that turn out to be PC related.

Firstly... Being from Sprint... Are you 100% SURE that you have the GT-I9100? What does your device look like? Does it have a middle "hard button" at the bottom?
Product Name
It shows:
PRODUCT NAME: GT-I9100
at the top of the download screen. There are the four buttons across the bottom. Not what I call physical buttons, because they don't move. I guess they would be called soft buttons below the screen.
You don't have an I9100 and are in the wrong forums.
Do you know what I have then?
Probably http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1281
But you might want to check under your battery before blindly flashing stuff for the wrong device.
open odin look that kies process is not runing on the background.
Try to boot your phone the message from firmware upgrade failed will come on the screen, when you're on this screen plug yor phone it will be recognized on odin, then leave it plugged in and shutdown the phone and get on download mode it will be recognized
last flash stock firmware complete i always use the XXKI3 with pit file, all of this if u phone is gt i9100
this was what i did, have the same problem in a bad flash of stock GB firmware (2 days ago) same screen and same problem, doing that (read it on a post somewhere) helped me
I was wrong. Its not the i9100. Its the galaxy s2 epic touch. Yeah.... Im kicking myself now. I did try what you said and it didnt work. I posted in the correct thread and was told im bricked.

aw that sucks! i guess you have to buy an usb jig now! Dont worry, its cheap and very usefull it also resets your flash counter
Can you point me in the direction of where to get a USB jig?
Just figured out what the USB jig does. Wont work for me. I cant take the phone back. I cancelled my plan with sprint. I use this phone as a second device. I may have to do JTag... But its going to be $50.

[Q] can't get my note connected with KIES

Hello guys.
I recently bought the Galaxy Note i717 locked to Rogers (Canada).
The seller told me that he has installed custom rom on the device. I thought it would not be problem but it seems like my phone is kind of laggy compared to others'.
I tried to connect KIES to install the original ICS firmware but my mac does not recognize my note.
The message on KIES when I connect USB cable is that ' device not responding '.
I tried turning on/off the phone and USB debugging mode.
I haven't back up my phone as I could not get it connected with computer.
My phone is samsung sgh i717
Android Version is 4.0.4
Broadband version is i717UCLE2
Kernel Version is
3.0.9-perf-I717UCLE2-CL526350

Build number is IMM76D.UCLE2
Please let me know how I can upgrade to normal ICS without losing data..
I am really stuck and new to Android System. (therefore I am a noob)

Install CWM Recovery and you can install any of the custom roms. All you have to do is install CWM and put the downloaded rom on your SD Card and install it with CWM. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526431 and download the one that says ODIN in the first post then read the instructions to flash CWM Recovery with ODIN in post two on the page link above. Now you can flash roms without needing your computer. Now you can head over to to the development area for the I717 Note and pick a rom to flash with CWM. make sure you read the instructions for each rom cause it will tell you to do a full wipe on most and you do that inside CWM. Another tip is that you will never ever need KIES and the only use for it is having the Samsung driver that get installed with it so your PC will sync with your device. KIES is kinda useless.
EDIT: you probably already have CWM installed. Before going and tryin to install it hold down the power and volume up volume down at the same time and the device will shut off but keep holding down those three buttons. Now the device will vibrate and the Samsung logo will appear, let go of the power button but keep the volume buttons pressed in and CWM should pop up after a few seconds. If you have CWM already installed do not flash it again just find a rom and flash it through CWM like I stated above. In CWM the volume buttons move you up and down the list and the power selects.

Go to this thread for a quick tutorial on flashing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586223
There is no "original" ICS firmware for i717. As of yet no i717 ICS firmware have been released by carriers, save for the unofficial leaks, which you seem to have.
If you want to go back to stock firmware of Rogers, make sure to do a factory reset in CWM and then flash a stock GB ROM. The other choice is to wait for the official ICS release from Rogers (which I hear is coming this month) and then flash that when it comes out.
Otherwise, search for stock i717R GB firmware on the forums, put it in SD card and then flash it using CWM.
If you don't want to lose your data you could try using Titanium Backup from the play store to backup your apps and data, flash your firmware, and then download titanium backup from the play store again on your new firmware and use the restore function (if you are flashing a stock rom, you need to root first before using the restore function). Don't know how well that would work though, never tried it myself.

Galaxy S2 (Sprint) USB Connection not working

So here's the story:
Stock Ice Cream Sandwich on device.
Did not use... Super One Click. Pretty much just skipped rooting? IDK, was in a hurry, didn't take necessary precautions.
Everything seems to work like a charm...
1) Downloaded KIES to install drivers.
2) Used ODIN to flash Clockwork Recovery Mod (getting a triangle now when booting, but nothing loads)
3) Used ODIN to flash I9100 ICS but it fails.
4) "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." Getting this message. Always on.
5) Got to Download Mode (ODIN), but any computer I plug the USB into does not even start a proper connection. I believe there is electricity flowing, but no data/information being sent/received from either end.
(I could just clean everything up and try reflashing some things, but now my device won't even properly connect to ANY computer with the drivers all properly installed...)
6) Post in xda forums and pray to the Android Brick Gods.
Please... help. I am just wondering why any USB connection isn't working and how to fix it... is my kernel messed up? Did this Galaxy S2 (from Sprint) have the Brick Bug where the /data gets corrupted after a flash... and, finally, does this mean my phone is bricked? I am about to file an insurance claim and pay that $100 deductible :/

You want the Epic 4G Touch forum, which is located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1281

Easy: Flash firmware through Odin on PC.
If you were already on 4.3, don't attempt to downgrade. If you weren't on 4.3 then you can follow this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2241136 If you were on 4.3, then you will need this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2591898
Make sure you have the correct drivers. If you don't, download Samsung Kies to load them for you. Make sure you have some battery life too. Recommend 30%+, just in case.
PS: It helps to tell what you did before this issue happened and what update you were on, for future reference. Both to help us help you as well as if others do the same thing and find this thread, it will be more informational and hopefully get them on track as well.

What step during Odin did it stop? I had this the other day with my backup computer. Had no issues connecting to the phone and flashing recoveries and kernels, but it wouldn't flash the entire rom through Odin. Once I put it on my main computer with the same file and Odin version, it had no problem. But if it gets stuck on the check or before it even starts loading to the phone, then the issue at that point is not the phone (though you have an issue with that as well, obviously). Also recommend to try other ports, cords, or Odin versions if you don't have another PC available. If you have a desktop, the front ports don't always provide the best connection for these activities. If you have a laptop, switch back and forth between ports or if you have USB 2.0 and 3.0, try in each. It is ok to power off the phone while in Download mode or to unplug and replug as long as the actual firmware/software is not being written to the phone. Once it starts writing then you just gotta let it go.
