I'm currently running CM10.1 nightlies, I quite fancy trying out a stock based ROM, can I just flash as usual using a ROM manager from the phone being turned on or will i need to flash back to stock first?
Thanks

the best stock based rom i have come across is this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998701&highlight=phenom
You don't need to flash a stock rom with Odin and your PC, just use CWM. Just follow the instructions on the page, i've pasted them below for your convenience.
***COMING FROM A DIFFERENT ROM A FULL WIPE IS RECOMMENDED***
***FULL WIPE***
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP
Wipe data/factory reset in recovery
Wipe Cache & Davilk Cache
Flash Rom in CWM
Reboot
[EDIT] "can I just flash as usual using a ROM manager from the phone being turned on" - yes.

You have to do a megawipe if coming back from 4.2 roms, as these roms change the folder structure of internal storage. Dont forget to backup everything in your internal storage or you will lose them.
Many others have faced problems later by not doing a megawipe.
lefttobleed - pardon my ignorance, can this be done within the ROM manager or is it worth going into recovery to do this? I don't have my phone for a couple of days so I can't currently check settings.
Thanks

you have to go into recovery and flash the megawipe aroma file. sorry i dont remember the link for the file. Search for it.
Please note that i am not familiar with rom manager so i dont know whether this can be done with rom manager. I always flash through recovery.
Edit: Please dont try this through rom manager... i feel something might go really wrong.

Tittle says all!
Things you will need:
1) Copy of Cyanogen Mod 9 FOR S II..DUH!
2) External SD-CARD
4)Custom ROM that you want to Flash!
3) Patience!
How it Works:
Put CM9 on your SD-CARD.
Go into CWM Recovery! (If coming from a custom ROM that isn't booting)
{Otherwise flash stock ROM above 2.3.* and then flash CF-ROOT kernel and then follow the above step}
Select "WIPE DATA/Factory Reset"
Let it finish and Flash CM9 and don't WIPE DATA after flashing!
Boot! Hopefully it will boot and give you the startup screen!
Finish all the forms and such until you get homescreen!
Go into Recovery and Flash ROM without any sort of WIPING!
REBOOT!
CONGRATS! You Have saved your phone from a Field Trip to Samsung!
Don't Forget to click Thanks and flash my ROM first as it is the ROM I tested after flashing CM9! In order to do that just download my ROM and put it on the same SD-CARD and flash after CM9! LINK: DOWNLOAD and if you Just click on the Image in my Signature, it will take you to the whole thread for features and screenshots!
THANKS TO PHISTACHIO for encouraging me to write one more guide!
99.99% of the time a user has a boot loop is due to not cleaning cache or wiping data. Is a guide really necesary?
Also this guide is ONLY for CyanogenMod, you should edit the title to show that.

Thanks for that! But sometimes when you are flashing a your own ROM(junior devs) they mess with boot files and such that with wiping deletes those so this guide with help of CM9 fixes the problem! It does not mean it fixes CM9 or CM it fixes the issue with any custom roms.!
Will this work on a bootlooping stock rom?

Hi!
I want to do a
COMPLETE REINSTALL
of my Neo V.
I use AOKP ROM.
What is the best way to start here?
1) using flashtool by DoomLord and flashing old stuff before doing a full wipe?
2) only full wipe via recovery and then install the ROM?
3) factory reset, then full wipe, then flash ROM?
Whatever.
I am overwhelmed of the possibilities in doing it. There are many ways, but I want to ensure that everything is set up correctly from the start.
All my data and intern ROM stuff is saved via Titanium.
So don't be shy to recommend the best and cleanest and deepest way to do this!
Thanks a bunch for your advices!

This is the usual procedure when installing a (new) ROM.
The other day I saw something in Flashtool which said that my device would still be a ICS device. There was nothing mentioned that AOKP was already in use. Or a JB kernel. There was still a footprint from a ICS ROM I used ages ago. I want to change that.
This is my problem: I want the device to be recognized correctly everywhere.
So, the advice you gave me would be the deepest I can do for the device itself?
I think I did this one or two times, but these footprints from former ROMs and flashing stuff are still there.
Thanks in advance!
Flash stock firmware (.587)
Copy ROM and GAPPS on SD
Flash a kernel in fastboot
Go to recovery..
Full Wipe.. install..

It is important to mention where to get this Stock ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678690
What I already got back to normal is the indication of Wifi: It never was blue and full but always grey.
I didn't check my version in Flashtool yet as I am still restoring my apps and settings.
Will report back if there are any issues or new information.
See you around.
Hello,
I was trying to do a factory reset on my S2, and I noticed it doesn't delete my other files (Music, Photos, Etc.) but it does reset my apps installed. Because I want to totally erase my files, I went to recovery mode and did a wipe, and I think I may have wiped the data, system, dalvic, etc on the process. And now my phone wont boot up. It is stuck at the Siyah logo (Because I flashed siyah on it before and it was a success). After this, I tried to flash siyah again into my device and its still stuck. I dont know what to do anymore, I also tried factory resetting using recovery mode. I have flashed other kernels but it still doesn't work. BTW I am using a jelly bean device

If I flash a new ROM, say the latest Snapdragon for S2 will the kernel be included in the package? I still cant pass the logo screen even though I have flashed different kernels

Thanks Sir Slim, I will try to flash the Snapdragon ROM as soon as after I finish downloading it. Because I believe I have cleared out the operating system and other important data on my device, that's why I need a new ROM.
Hi mate,
Do you run a stock ROM on your phone like you didnt flash any custom ROM on it....
Did you check if the SIYAH kernel you flashed on your device has STOCK ROM support, cause if the siya kernel you flashed has no support for stock rom it will just stay on the siyah logo the whole day until it drains out your battery.....
if you want to go to this website : http://dorimanx.shine.sk/ and dowload the v8.xxx those got stock rom support..... then do a wipe data factory reset....
if your phone booted up, and want to you wipe the phone completely, go to settings and do a factory reset there, your phone will prompt you if you want to wipe the memory card too.... put a check on it then follow the steps okay....

Hi, all!
I have that annoying problem with all the 4.3 ROM I've tried with no exception. Everything is fine until the first reboot. Then it's stuck on the first Galaxy SIII boot logo. I'm using TWRP - the latest version if it matters.
I always wipe everything first.
Please give more details on how you flash it.

If you did all required wipes and followed the instructions did you try a different recovery? I read in the SB thread for example of people having issues with TWRP

I am sorry for the wrong section. May I ask some to move it to Q&A?
I always wipe data, cash, dalvik cash, system. Then install the ROM and gapps...
After the restart I set up the google account and etc. And after the first restart the phone freezes. That's all.
I'll try with different recovery.
PS. I've just tried CWM recovery 6.0.3.3. and Omega AOSP v9. Still the same.
Try cwm 6.0.3.6 and after you install the rom and after its set up go to recovery and factory reset

That's strange, I run Philz recovery and every 4.3 flash till now went through without issue.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I tried all the recoveries I could find. Including Philz. Still the same.
And something else strange. I installed CWM, CWM, touch and Philz and with them I made backups. After restoration of the backup the phone freezes. I also tried to install Omega 49 and the installation goes OK, but freezes before the first start-up.
The only solution was to install manually TWRP (Odin) to restore some of my old backups. I'm beginning to think that there is something wrong with my phone. It's black if it is important.
Suggest total wipe of phone install your stock rom and test
Hi,
I just want to say I'm also having the same problem.
Started using TWRP with full wipe, same issue on 4.3 and no issues on 4.2.
On latest CWM same problem and 4.2 wont even pass the first boot on Samsung logo.
Also had to use Odin to get back on TWRP and flash a 4.2 rom again.
Anyway there is one more thing I would like to try but haven't had the chance to do so, is installing the latest modem and ril. But I'm kind skeptic about that currently because there is also some risks and my S3 is my daily driver.
Don't change the ril on any custom as you stand a big chance of breaking the calls and Tex's. Modem yes but not ril. Do change to cwm and retry.

You are doing a full wipe?. System and data is the main thing to wipe not just factory reset. So go into mounts and storage and format data, system and cache there then flash the rom /gapps.

Hi, I think I did the following steps to get it working on my device.
1. Flash stock with odin
2. Hard reset
3. Boot up and finish first run menus
4. Flash twrp with odin
5. Format data with twrp
6. Flash 4.3 rom
This phone is the Samsung Note 2 SHV-E250K.
I have had the this problem occur after a backup. I was messing about with boot animations and when I followed a tutorial on changing it, I ended up with a blank screen as my boot up. I had created a backup before it so I restored. I rebooted and suddenly I was stuck in a bootloop where the olleh splash shows up and then stays there. I followed tutorials to get rid of the bootloop but it has stayed. I wiped my data, the cache, the dalvik cache and even done a factory reset to try and fix my problem. I am still plagued with this. I was wondering if anybody can help me please.
The phone is rooted with TWRP as the recovery. I really need help with this.
Thanks.
Either this or that :/
Two things you can do:
1. Download the firmware from Sammobile and flash it via Odin
2. Download a ROM (Preferably Cyanogenmod) and wipe system -> wipe data -> wipe cache and flash the rom, followed by gapps

Do I have to have CyanogenMod or can I have any ROM?
Like an AT&T Rom and then flash the SJKernal
Let me phrase this better. Cyanogenmod isn't available for my device, but it is available for the AT&T version. Would it be possible for you to give me a step to step guide on how to install that along with touchWiz because I want to keep the S-pen.

I'm not quite used to a Note 2. I've even read about ROMs for the Note 2, but I think the S-pen would be out of the question.
EDIT: You could try porting a ROM to your Note 2 from another device with the same type of chipset/processor.
