Hi there,
Has anyone managed to get a decent refresh rate using the N10 as an extra screen? I have Windows 7 x64 and have tried to use
1) Air Display -
Sort of works without the Beta driver, but refresh still too slow. Works best connected using Connectify Dispatch Hotspot. But forces full resolution and have not got it working with USB
2) iDisplay - Has several "Compression" options and works via USB or Wifi. Also has 4 resolution settings but does not seem to refresh more than once every few mins.
3) REDFLY ScreenSlider. Comes close to working but still does not refresh often enough and seems slightly unstable.
In general using the dispatch hotspot, so the tablet is connected directly to the laptop via wifi should provide more than enough bandwidth yet it hardly seems to use it.
Any hints tips or ideas would be welcome.
thanks.

lol? Wifi at the absolute very latest and greatest is 1.3gb/s, actual throughput is far less. 2560x1600 resolution at 60Hz refresh uses 8.75gb/s of throughput. So you cannot possible run the Nexus 10 resolution at normal refresh rate over wifi. That much bandwidth over wifi would be completely impossible anytime in the next 5 years, probably closer to 10 years before wifi gets enough bandwidth to do something like that.
The best you can do is use an advanced compression algorithm and MAYBE you could get 1080p @ 24Hz over wifi on this tablet. Depending on the compression, you might even be able to get that up to something like 30Hz. But that would take some heavy h.264 compression that would use a good chunk of your tablets CPU

How to you get to that number? If I do a quick calculation:
2560x1600 Resolution x 60 Hz x 3 Byte per Pixel =~ 700 MByte/sec.
That sounds doable.

I'm assuming you think 1 pixel is 3 bytes as in 1 for red, green, and blue, but that is incorrect. There is actually no 3 bit color scheme as far as I know. Let me elaborate.
Color depth scale:
2 colors - 1 bit
4 colors - 2 bit
16 colors - 4 bit
256 colors - 8 bit
64K - 16 bit
16M - 32 bit
So assuming you have a 1080p monitor: 1920*1080*32*60 = 3981932000 bits or 3.9Gbps (~500 MBps). So even if your WiFi was N and maxed out at the theoretical max speed of 600 Mbps (75 MBps) you would need some serious compression. Not even an Ethernet to USB adapter would help.
I don't know what the color depth of the Nexus 10 is, but at 32 bit and 60hz, that is 7.8 Gbps or ~1GBps.

Does USB work for you? I tried it earlier, and it only crashed the display server on my desktop. WiFi worked fine though, aside from being extremely slow.

Hi, yes, USB works fine. If you set the compression high enough and resolution low enough, it is the best of the bad bunch so far. AirDisplay looks like it would be best if you could change the resolution, but that's not an option.
As for the condescending post above, don't worry. Splashtop does this for the Ipad and have it working. We have 3 programs on android almost doing it. So I doubt it will take 10 years. Modern PC's and tablets are more than powerful enough to en/decode compressed streams.
I'll keep playing and post anything I find.
Splashtop 2 works incredibly well both as a second screen and as a separate mouse/keyboard combo. Even on a crappy WiFi network I was able to work with minimal latency issues. The problems arose when I downloaded larger files and started a video stream on one screen, but software seemed to work out the kinks quite swiftly. :good:

Can you explain how to do this? I've used Splashtop but I don't know how to set it up like this.

It has taken a bit of digging, but I have got Splashtop working as an extra monitor. It actually works better than expected.
1st you must have a virtual monitor set up.
To do this at the moment im using http://www.zoneos.com/zonescreen.htm
This installs a virtual graphics card. After a reboot, go to the monitors section and hit "Detect" You PC will find 2 "Unattached" monitors. Set up one of them to the resolution your going to use.
(I'm finding 1600x1200 which is the maximum it allows works quite well, but for poor network performance just reduce this)
You also place it in relation to your other screens as normal.
Now just use Splashtop to connect to your PC and toggle screens until your viewing your new (in my case 3rd) screen.
Alas it re-routes the audio to the tablet as well, but much closer to what Im aiming for.
If anybody has offerings for virtual monitor software, keeping audio on the pc with splashtop etc.. please chip in.

For everyone using windows 7 who is looking to do this, a simpler solution that doesn't require 3rd party install.
Hit the "windows button" + "p" on your keyboard, and select "Extended"
Right click your home screen and select "Screen Resolution"
Move the second display to where you would like it positioned and select the appropriate resolution (1366x768 worked best for me) and hit "Apply"
Open Splashtop 2 on your tablet and connect to your computer.
Hit the onscreen options button in Splashtop on your tablet, and select the image that looks like monitors with a "1" and "2" on them.
Enjoy!
Hope this helps as I was searching around for quite awhile, and wasn't able to get anything working before I stumbled upon this.

Hi, I'm trying to connect my phone with the HDMI cable i've got in box with my full hd tv.
Everything seems to work great - except it seems that my phone slows down noticably - in games, ui responsiveness, everything - i take it may be because outputs 1080p signal to the tv and tries to upscale it?
Did anyone notice that ui responsiveness is not that smooth when the phone is connected to their tv? I was thinking there might be a way to output 720p signal to the tv instead ?
Anyone else experienced this?
It connects at 720p by default.
Ive had it connected to my Monitor at 1080 and 720 and the phone still runs great at either resolution
Can you configure how it connects ? my tv reports 1080 resolution when i plug it in.
And i have like 1/3rd of performance - especially if i try to run any game like cut the rope.
yaeh , just tested again, connects as 1080p and when its connected even scrolling of options or bringing up top dropdown bar is not fluid anymore.
What verson of firmware do you use ? Mine is 6.0.A.3.62.
Ive tried to change the "output quality" setting, but it doesnt seem to do anything in my case. I can only set scaling of phone screen on tb 80%-100% regulation.
Ok, so i've found a "scientific" measurable way to test.
In quadrant (free test in market) i get following results:
Without tv plugged in: ~3100, flyby in room with stairs 30-50 fps
With TV plugged in: ~2700, flyby in room with stairs 20-25 fps so only 50% of what i get normally and it has visible frame skip
Can someone check that on your phone and post your results?
I will give it a try as well when I am done with battery test.

Mine was:
Without tv plugged in: 32-42fps score: 3183
With tv plugged in: 23-26fps score: 2876
Hmmm...
ok so we do have a problem then, since your results confirm mine ....
Now i only hope this is some kind of firmware/driver issue,
Games are completly unplayable (at least for me) when phone is plugged to tv, even simple ones like Canabalt from humblebundle ....
Would be good if someone with firmware different than .62 could post their results.
Quick test with Angry Birds:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auksuKwrGsE
Still on .67
Yup, I can easly see 0.5s delayed response to your finger on the movie.
Ok, any ideas what now? I'm trying to contact Sony support but so far no luck.
This is completly unacceptable for such expensive phone.
So this 0.5sec delay is what's bothering you?
Bothering? this renders this phone useless for any other gaming except things like angry birds where you dont have to react on time - besides some other games like canabalt (where you have constantly scrolling fast screen) lag and drop frames like crazy - totaly unusable. Even "cut the rope" where you need to be precise is non-playable.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czrSoosZsMg
Check out this video on Xperia Arc S - in the end they run Angry Birds Rio and there is no problem like this present.
I also think that running "ubuntu for android" and using is would be a very bad experience with this kind of issues
So yeah... im pretty bothered overall with delay and 50% framedrop.
Got response from sony support that they got notified about an issue and there will be be a firmware update in next 10 days that i hope might correct the issue.

I have to admit, that's a good point. I haven't looked at this from this point of view. Now we have to wait for fix, or maybe there is a way to make it work properly.
Yeah, its interesting to me, that the video of Xperia Arc S i've posted above seems to indicate that the phone doesnt have any issues when connected to tv. So im hoping its something easly fixable with software.
I have uploaded new, longer version now, icluding Angry Birds, Quadrant and video playback:
Sony Xperia S - HDMI TV-out delay - Angry Birds + Quadrant + Playback
Found another one as well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m97iy8XEXc4
Awesome work, now it would be great if we could get attention of someone who made custom roms for Xperias - Maybe they would have a better idea whats going on. On posted videos the problem is more visible.
Im not sure if its really "input lag", i would rather blame some kind of rendering problem - input lag is probably a side effect of this.
I don't have mine yet but could it be because the phone's having to render to 2 screens (one at 720 and one at 720/1080)?. Doing this on a pc increases the load on the system even if the screens are cloned - it would be the same on the phones/tablets as well.
From the little testing I did with my Archos 70 before giving up on trying to get it doing HDMI out reliably (wonky £1 adapter at fault maybe) I found that turns the internal screen off and just uses the touch area as a trackpad so as to give maximum performance to the output.
Now the specs of the Archos 70's are a bit poor at best but it does what I want it for - playing music and video while having a nice big 250gb drive. The specs on the latest round of phones should certainly have the power to run 2 screens without issue. However, any resource intensive work (games for example) would degrade performance in such situations.
Are there any similar problems when playing back video?
Maybe try some less intensive games like Robotek or Frozen Bubble?
I would rather say, there is a delay only. When watching above videos, what comes to your mind first? Delay or lag? I would say there is a delay, because picture is rather smooth. So in that case, it would be a matter of changing some settings, rather than phone can't perform running two screens. Arc s can do it, so Xperia S should be even better.
Not having used either handset and with what you've said, I'd say it's more than likely to be a software issue somewhere. Going by Sony's recent behaviour with updates and support little problems like this should be resolved sooner rather than later.
This is what is drawing me to the Xperia for my next handset as HTC seem to just abandon things once something new is out.
Once I get mine I'll hopefully be able to help out a bit more with stock rom problems.
Hi folks,
Seeing as though i'm one of the first people in the world to get my hands on the device, thought i'd share my opinions and some pictures compared to last years model.
This is the 16GB, WIFI only version purchased from my local Sony store - received 5 this morning.
I was allowed to test the model in the store first, initial drawback was the lack of a micro USB port. You connect the USB through the proprietary slot at the bottom of the device.
I've attached 3 pics of the device out in full sunlight with brightness turned right up.
The device is very responsive and almost lagfree - it's a huge improvement on the Tablet S from last year.
Price is indeed slightly high, but I think it's worth it to say the least.
For me the cons are the power/volume rocker buttons, they are quite stiff and a little far out of the body - quite visible, the other is the lack of micro USB port.
Best improvement is the location of the speakers, now at the bottom of the device, no longer have to cup my hand so it doesn't block the speakers. Looks like Sony are making more of an effort with this device.
Device is lightweight, has a very nice feel and finish to it - good build quality in my opinion.
The device is supposed to be some 20grams lighter but becuase of the aluminium casing at the back, it actually feels heavier than the Tab S.
Screen rotates in all directions. Ability to add widgets as a small app is awesome.
The general look of android on here is fantastic, I love the icons, fair few pre-installed apps too. Feels even better to hold in portrait mode. Feels heavier in landscape mode but lighter in portrait mode. On screen keyboard is responsive.
If you where like me and unsure whether to buy it - I took a gable and it's paid off.
Unlike the Tab S, i've yet to find any bugs in the firmware like the WIFI drop. Quality from rear facing camera is fantastic.
Infact - upon restarting the device, i've just received an OTA which adds more small aps, ability to install smalls apps distributed from Google Play, support write access to SDCard from applications by other companies. Enhanced clipboard function and supports progressive download from Video Unlimited.
This is after 5minutes of playing around - anyone want to know anything just post or send a PM!
My conclusion - I sold my Nexus 7 to part pay for this, did I regret it, not one bloody bit. This is a stunning device, i'd be suprised if it did as bad as the Tab S did.
Few questions:
How's the speaker volume compared with original S?
Any flickering issue while running YouTube or any other app?
How's the default browser?
In 16gb model, how much is available?
Gameloft's latest games are compatible? Can see in market?
Could you try PS3 controller, if you have?
- Speaker quality is alot better than the Tab S and the volume is quite a bit louder.
- No screen flicker.
- Default browser is a lot more responsive and smoother. Chrome is also installed by default aswell as the ICS browser. Flash included.
- Out of the 16GB, I have 10GB available, 80MB is taken up with generic music and videos etc which can be deleted.
- Gameloft games seem to appear, Nova 3, Dark Knight Rises, Modern Combat 3, Men In Black, Asphalt 7 etc.
Don't have a PS3 controller, sorry!
Can't see the PS Store that the Tab 7 had, thought that was included?
Swiping apps from the recent apps tab is very smooth, could almost be JellyBean!
Google Maps is smooth, I like the Walkman app and the Scrapbook.
Very pleased with the device, I really like the Sony native apps. Well done Sony, pulled of a stunner here.

Thanks, waiting for its release in Singapore !!
I can't see the app I saw in a Youtube video where you could fling tv programs off the screen and it would change the channel, it wasn't the remote control.
Thought there was a PS Store too for games or is this not PS certified?
I'll be picking this up this weekend. Happy with what I've heard so far. Sold my Tablet S today.
Have just tried playing a 1080p HD movie in the native video player.
Works flawless, didn't need to convert or anything! Unlike the previous tablet - good to see they've learnt from their mistakes, coupled with this, the screen is fantastic and so is the speaker quality.

I just bought the tablet today.
It's an amazing unit.
My only complaint?
It's not compatible to ntfs devices. I bought the media stand with 3 usb ports and none of them read ntfs.
I called sony and they said because ntfs is owned by microsoft that android will not allow ntfs devices, which is a load of crap, but however, it's a great device otherwise. I tried the asus tablets with the docking keyboard and would have enjoyed keeping that model but they have screen issues which doesn't bode well with me especially when paying over $500 for a stinking unit.
I hope to root this device to mount ntfs drives, but for now will have to make due with fat32. I don't want to return it because it's exactly what I want.
Any idea when the keyboard case will be out and the cost?
I'd think about one of these if it has an unlockable boot loader and some devs hop onboard. Its basically the same problem I have with the new amazon tablets. I have a nexus 7 right now and I like it but I quite like how the tablet s has an ir emitter. Too bad my bravia doesn't have WiFi either. Couldn't afford it.
Someone with one should check and see if the boot loader can be unlocked.
There are a number of different screen-casting dongles available out there, and I don’t want to recommend one or the other. I went with the Belkin Mira-Cast dongle because I had read some good things about it and thought it was more readily compatible with devices from multiple OEM’s. Now I’m hearing that the Chromecast is just as easy to work with, and has expanded on the content that it can cast from your mobile device.
That said, I can’t speak from experience with the Chromecast - I only have the Belkin. I’ve had mixed results, and I am pretty sure it has everything to do with the TV that I’m using.
In order to connect to the Belkin Mira-Cast, you will have to go in to the “Screen Mirroring” option, which is located in the notifications bar. It may not be one of the default settings that is available, so if you plan on using it more than once, I advise you move it to one of the “preset” settings available for the notification bar. Either way, if you don’t see it initially, you can tap the small, fat pencil at the top right of the screen and you should see it as an option.
Once you tap Screen Mirroring, it may automatically try to connect to the Belkin (or whatever dongle you are using) if it is powered on. If it doesn’t connect automatically, you just need to make sure it’s available, and then select it to pair with the dongle. It shouldn’t take longer than 15 seconds or so, and you will get a message that it has connected. Here’s what I’ve noticed:
The performance has varied according to the TV I’m on. On a 4 year old Insignia LED, it lags, hangs up, freezes the screen, distorts the sound or even drops sound entirely. I wish I could say it was my Wifi, but it works better on a 6 year old Panasonic plasma screen. Finally, I found that it worked best (flawlessly) on a small but decent Samsung at a cottage we stayed in this summer.
Sound distortion is generally resolved with a phone reboot. I’ve seen (and heard) sound distortion and drops with all of my apps that I’ve used, but only on 1 TV (the Insignia), so like I said, I think it may be just the TV that you’re using
Live TV is choppy, no matter where I watch it. I have to think this is just a product of the content that I’m viewing. Because there is so little time or buffer for correction of live TV, it may be that the mirror just augments any jitter, choppiness, or lag that the phone may have. Netflix works GREAT, and Youtube is hit or miss. I’ve seen the most audio drops with Youtube and live TV (Xfinity app).
It is a major drain on the battery. I’ve found that the Grand Prime does a REALLY good job with power management, even if I don’t use power saving. Screen Mirroring is really a big battery drain, so I would recommend plugging your device in if possible if you are planning on pushing content from your phone to a TV.
It’s not HD. It’s close… but it’s not HD. If you are intolerant to that sort of thing, this may bug you. It may look pixellated or even jittery. That’s probably a product of the qHD screen on the SGGP.
That said, I think it’s a great way to share personal pix and videos of things you’ve done on a trip, vacation, or even for presentations! You may even want to try pushing it to other handsets or tablets to see how well it plays with others.
Enjoy!

The last few weeks plex has been almost unuseable if im launching it from the nexus player. It seems to do much better opening it on my pc and "casting" to the nexus. But if I open the app on the nexus it freezes about 10 seconds into a movie.
I have a hardwired nexus player, bandwidth isn't the issue. Been using my nexus for a year without issue until this.
Has anyone else been having issues with it?

Is it stuttering or just freezing up completely? Usually its a band with issue as the NP I have has zero issues since being hardwired.
It was freezing. Changed some settings and it's resolved it seems.

My suggestion was going to be mess with settings. Direct play and stream can have that affect. The audio drop out bug is that where about every 20 seconds or so there is a second of silence? If so I've noticed that as well since the last update. I was watching a 20gb mkv of Excalibur (1981) and every 20 seconds it would show a multicolor screen like a test screen. I rebooted the router as well as the Nvidia Shield android tv (my other box) and it got less but every ten minutes or so it would do it again.

Correct on the dropout. Oddly enough though, if instead of using the plex app on the nexus I use plex on my phone to initiate a "cast" from my pc to the nexus there is no audio dropout. It only happens if i use the plex app on the nexus.

Most problems are usually the app. For some reason casting is less buggy, although not as convenient and being wireless can tend to stutter if the quality is set too high, not to mention having to constantly restart the app on the tablet, etc. Maybe because when casting the source PC's resources are in play while using a "box" with limited RAM that can be taxed more easily? I don't know. I do know that the Nexus player as well as my Nvidia Shield ATV work great directly connected to the network (Fios 90/90) with no stuttering at all. I swear I use the Nvidia more than I watch cable, etc. It really is a revolutionary device as far as entertainment goes, with a Plex server as well as all that Kodi has to offer.

Agree that plex+kodi suits nearly all of our needs. We have 2 hardwired nexuses (nexii?) And are very happy with them.
Once the Nvidia drops look into that. It's a beast. No clicky remote, super fast, sd card slot, stream games from the PC, etc. There dropping in price quick too, although not as fast as the Nexus player did.
Hi people, a little greeting from France!
I would have liked to have some information before falling for the Zenfone 9 and i thanks @Nexr0n; I second him with my views on the phone.
Here's my review, figuring it might be useful to others who, like me, spend their time looking at online tests and searching for the best option.
Background:
I came from a Note 9 (snapdragon) but broke the screen and while it still works, the Zenfone 9 was giving me the eye.
I didn't want to change, not finding anything in the landscape that is as qualitative and meets my criteria. Namely: good screen (especially brightness, the 120hZ was a plus, the QHD too), good speakers, a mini-jack port and a good autonomy. The Note 9 has features that are now unavailable: the clickable home button hidden under the screen, the heart sensor, the rear fingerprint reader (I like it), the notification led, etc.
The new Samsung S22 didn't have any jack or SD and despite their great screens, they seemed to me to be a regression on the points mentioned above, minor of course, but which, cumulatively, I didn't like. In particular the autonomy, which everyone thinks is bad.
I had a SONY 5 III in my sights, but the lack of brightness and the price dissuaded me. I couldn't find a new S21 anywhere else than on Rakuten, so I preferred to avoid it.
I went for the Zenfone 9. The + would have been an SD port but I bought this to keep my data (movies, videos) when I need it, not being a big fan of the cloud: https://www.amazon.fr/Essential-Câble-recharge-synchronisation-données/dp/B0917DWGC6/ref=sr_1_1?adgrpid=1348002191584416&hvadid=84250559089415&hvbmt=bp&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=125745&hvnetw=s&hvqmt=p&hvtargid=kwd-84250662755975:loc-66&hydadcr=29650_2344758&keywords=budi&qid=1662197734&sr=8-1
In use:
The positive:
Ultra responsive, on par with an iPhone. Going back to my Note 9 makes me realize that this is where the gap is most pronounced.
Autonomy:
I have 4 Gmail accounts, 1 exchange account, 2 SIM cards and a company email. 2 whatsapp, 2 Facebook, 1 discord. I play between 1 and 2 hours a day (clash royale, Brawl star) and I am at 75%-80% brightness.
I oscillate between 6 and 8h of SOT (related to a 100% battery, but I use the battery saving functions by charging at 80% maximum). On average, I lose 20% of battery for 1h20 of screen on.
The fingerprint reader, fast and reliable (my right thumb, my right index (when my Asus lay on the table and my left index, when i grab it with my left hand.
The recharge :
The block is provided, the cable too, and it is appreciable. The recharge is not at the level of a One Plus or an Oppo of course, but it takes me less than an hour to go from 20% to 80%. That's enough for me.
The sound quality and its power. The Dirac profiles are ... strange, games / video / cinema do not put the voices at the same level. You have to change regularly depending on what you're listening to, but there's bound to be a profile that will fit before you even bother with the equalizer. On the other hand, what they did with the feeling of having real bass (example with " clap your hands " of Kungs is bluffing). The power with the outdoor mode is quite substantial, but I imagined EVEN more and it transforms the sound, which becomes less pleasant and immediately loses the bass.
The Medium:
The screen
I love the size, I appreciate that it is flat, but the maximum brightness is below what I expected based on the advertised numbers. Side by side, while my Note 9 is very marked (I used Waze a lot, I have a huge burn-in), I feel like the samsung is still brighter than the Asus. It is also better defined, even if the white balance is better on the Zenfone side.
As a reminder: Samsung Note 9 for GSMArena (White 100% luminosity: 367 cd/m2 and 658 cd/m2 in max auto) Asus Zenfone 9 (White: 100% luminosity: 449 cd/m2 / 831 in max auto)
The quality of the photos with the native application, oversharpeing everywhere and bad color accuracy. I prefer the Gcam rendering, but we will have to tweak the application because we are not yet at the level of the Pixel !
The power of vibrations. The Note 9 is *vastly* superior
The Software:
ZenUI is less complete than Samsung, with ALL its little cool tricks (the double broadcast of a video on the phone to show something but music on a speaker for the party at the same time! - the integrated Hiya blocker to know if you're being canvassed or if it's spam when you have a call and all the possibilities offered to power users with Nicelock, Multistar, etc. It's missing).
It's related: the brightness bar is poorly done, you have to swipe down twice to get access to it (there is an option on Samsung so that it's not the case). Moreover, the curve is badly thought out, the progressiveness is not smooth enough. The automatic management of brightness is not bad, but not at the level of my Samsung.
But all in all, ZenUI is usefull and with some cool tweaks. I like Game Genie !
Given the power of the phone, I would have liked a "durable" mode that could rather downclock the processor than prevent applications from waking up with the screen off... Asus, if you read me ...
Notifications: this is probably related to the versions of android and the QHD screen but I had a LOT more notifications on a much smaller space on the Samsung, it was really better. With the Asus, every single notification takes up half of my panel ! Is it a toy or a phone ?!
It's not very important for some, but the jack port on the top of the phone is more restrictive than the bottom, as a rule. I sometimes put my headphones on in the car to listen to stuff while the kids are asleep, the wire sticks up over my phone, it's less convenient. When you're walking around town listening to podcasts, taking it out of your pocket and having to use both hands to put it in the right direction to unlock it, that's handling that was unnecessary with the Note. Manipulations that increase the risk of dropping it.
The negative:
Stand by time:
Turning off the internet at night + having checked that nothing is running in the background, I go from 62% to 52% battery between 11pm and 8am... I'll test in airplane mode, but this loss seems huge !
When i play Genshin Impact, not even in performance mode, it runs HOT !
USB 2.0 ? really ? It was not so long to perform a transfer of my 30k photos from my samsung to my Asus but nevertheless, it was nearly painfull ! Thanksfully my 256 go are in UFS 3.1 !
All in all, I find it a bit expensive for what it is although I'm not disappointed. But if I could, I think I would have waited for a smartphone with the Snapdragon 8 gen 2.
Or go back to Samsung on the mid-range to keep a decent screen but benefit from the jack and micro SD.
What is the ideal price that you consider for this smartphone?
I think 699€ for the 8/128 go and 749€ for the 8/256go were a much better deal.

in any case there will always be positive and negative points.
The positive point of this phone is the compact size (that's all I can say because I don't own it)
I will sell my pixel 6 pro to buy this phone.
For the p6pro that I have had since its release I can say these following:
the phone gets hot in normal use (music, YT). I said it heats up not burns....
The photo quality is very good, a little downside as to the telefoto that for me does not make a miracle (unlike the s21 ultra)
here is a short opinion and that engages only me obviously....

I am really puzzled between this ZF9 and Galaxy S22. My favor is towards ZF9 but there is of course a price difference as well. So maybe i would like to hear what would you pick
A new Samsung Galaxy S22 for 630Euro or ZF9 for 760Euro (both 128GB). Cheers.

If you want better screen and photos in a manageable size with software which can do anything, s22.
Go for the ZF9 for really good battery life, micro jack and cool form factor with ultra snappy experience without stutter.
And if i were you... , i'd wait for the S23

That was originally my plan, but my current phone Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact is technically dying after 5yrs so urgently need a new phone i think i would give it a try. And will see later what the S23 will bring us. Thanks a lot for you opinion.

Give "it" a try... Which one?
Thanks for the shoutout, I do agree with most of what you're saying but also do have some small fixes/suggestions.

I'm also not a big fan of the cloud, what's been working great for me is Syncthing, FOSS peer to peer solution for local file sharing, set it up on your computer or home server if you've got one and you can sync over whatever files you want to it (automatically when there's changes).

There is a durable mode, even an "ultra" durable mode. You can find it in the same spot as performance mode or with the "system modes" switch in the pull down drawer.

There is a smaller notifications option, you do have to pull down the shade for quick actions (pretty seamless with the smart key gesture) but it does fix the problem.

This only really applies when not charging the phone but you can flip the screen upside down, everything dodges the hole punch well. That's what I've been doing since i agree, bottom jacks are far superior.

Asus seems to have every standby battery draining feature turned on by default. Once you go in and turn stuff you aren't using off it's noticeable improvement.

Thanks man, but i'm a power user, i fined tune my phone. I turn stuff i'm not using... and "do not disturb" AND "airplane mode" AND "clean memory" AND "auto ultra durable mode from 2:00 am to 5:00 am" just before i sleep ... and my Zenfone 9 keeps a pretty bad standby mode at night (~0,5 - 0,8 % /h).

I lose 3-4% over 8 hours with just DND and Ultra Durable.
Same for me (or even less) with the update now.
