Question: phone rebooting using Viper4G 3.1.4 - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I have hboot 1.15, S-on, htc evo 4g lte.
I searched the dev thread but not finding anything with keywords.
The phone will just reboot, go thru the animation screens, and seems to act normally afterwards.

?
Assuming u just installed it? Did u do a factory reset when u wiped? If not wipe it a few times.

Yea, did all that. So it should have been a clean install.
Think a titanium backup and fresh factory reset -> install would help?
I'm wondering if going s-off would help, but I can never get it to work.

face
Have u tried the face palm method? Pretty simple and they'll help u in their chat. Is definitely much easier to flash roms not having toworry about kernels etc

Changing Roms

When trying to switch to a different rom, even after factory reseting and clearing all the cache. Parts of the old ROM consist such as the notification tray colors on the pull down. I dont understand because ive cleared it all
You might have to wipe and start again. I had that problem yesterday.

If all you are clearing is the cache, and not wiping data/cache/davlik, that is your problem right there...
Ive cleared them all 3 times now and still getting the same problem.

When all else fails, follow unroot steps to return to stock and restart the process. Something you're doing doesn't seem to be adding up.

I feel losing root wont gain anything more then re rooting.

What ROM are you trying to flash, and what recovery are you using? The most reliable is arguably the Clockworkmod version...

Returning to stock is a good way to resolve this issue.
So guess what, you can change the color inside the rom settings
Oh thanks for the help
Are you using ROM manager to flash roms or doing it manually? if your not you should try rom manager it has an option that lets you wipe all data before flashing the new rom. i use it and ive never had any problems

If you search this forum or Google 'unrevoked', you'll easily find a complete guide and walkthrough on how to root your phone, which'll (as part of the process) load clockworkmod boot recovery.
The next time you reboot, hold the volume down key, which takes you into your boot screen, and use the vol up and down keys to select 'recovery', and press the power button.
From there, wiping your cache partitions and doing a full factory wipe is very straightforward.
That's the easiest way to fully flatten your phone before installing a new ROM.
Edit - the process might differ a bit for your model phone, but the principle will be the same...

[Q] factory reset with S-off remove root?

Ok, I've been having some weird issues lately. Phone freezing, responding very slow, and a few other issues. I want to keep root but do a factory reset. What's the best way to perform a factory reset and not lose root? ##786# then menu and reset? What will happen if I used revolutionary to get s-off? After will I still have s-off and just need to reflash SU?

I'm assuming since you used revolutionary you have either twrp recovery or cwm. In both of these there is a factory wipe/reset feature. Using it will clear out everything but you'll still have root, no worries. Get back at me if you have more questions.
Hit my thanks if I've helped you!

I do have TWRP. What's the difference from the factory wipe/reset feature thru recovery and the ##786# way? Ultimately I want to go back to stock with s-off and keep the SU app.

Look for the bare stock Rom in the development section. It says its a base for development, but its the stock Rom.
Factory resetting will not mess around with your root or S OFF. it just cleares data and apps. stuff like that.
Go for it man, im the same way when i feel my phone get a bit slow. i learned 1 thing, DONT DOWNLOAD **** YOU DON'T NEED lol

There probably is no difference between the two, but the wipe through recovery is there to make sure everything is wiped pre-rom-flash, so I like that way better. No real logic behind it I guess.

Need Help!!!!

My brother tried to install a rom in rom manager. Did not work. He got stuck at the hboot screen. He panicked and tried fixing by flashing the newest ruu. It does the update then when you reboot it gets stuck at the white htc screen for ever. Not sure what he did is even fixable im used to the samsung phone and we just odin back. I have tried to reinstall his cwm and flash the ruu thru there but same result. He was rooted running bamf and he still has s-off even after flashing ruu. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated and to save time hit me up on gtalk @ [email protected]. Thanks fellows.

Wow fail on the no backup! I'd try to reboot into recovery, load a new rom on the SD and try to flash that.
What did he use to gain root?
Can you verify he still has s-off?
Bootloader version?

Do a system wipe, cache and dalvik. Then try to reinstall a rom, not the RUU.

I wish more people would stop flashing roms in Rom manager. Reboot to recovery clear data, cache, davlik cache, hell format system while you are at it, wipe it all 3 times for good measure. I have always followed the same steps from day 1 and never any issues with roms other than known bugs. Another thing when something doesn't go right don't just flash with no reguard to your device. If something does not work try to clear everything and reflash again. If that does not work clear everything and flash your backup (yes you should always make a back up) rant over.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button
Is your problems resolved?

[Q] Help! I made a big mistake.

I have my Evo 3D and I decided I wanted to flash a ROM on it.
Basically I rooted it and went to flash a ROM on it, and ended up deleting the dalvik cache and cache.
The bad part is, I forgot (like a complete idiot) to do a Nandroid backup.
Is there any way to come back from this?
you could just run an RUU and get back to stock.
btw what problem do you have while flashing new roms?
deleting the dalvick cache and cache dousnt matter, it automatically creates it.
If you haven´t backup up your previous rom, then you cant recover it... that´s why it´s called a backup..
So whats the problem?
I think i read it wrong. do you mean you want to restore your previous stock rom + data? if so its not possible to restore the data without a nandroid.

That works even though I can only see the bootloader screen / TWRP recovery screen.?
And my problem was that I had an error while trying to flash room. I might have done it wrong.
But I just want my phone to work. I dont need my apps or contacts etc
.
Not sure what the problem is either. If you delete the dalvik turn the phone back on and it automatically recreates it. No problems what so ever.
It sounds like you flashed or tried to flash a ROM without doing a full wipe. However I'm not sure.
Perhaps you could tell us in more detail the problem and what you would like to do and we can help ya..

I know that you are trying to help, but all I wanted to know was how to make it back to normal. But seeing as I did it incorrectly, I could really use the help.
I did not do a Nandroid backup.
What I did was try to flash the rom without wiping my phone, like you said.
Then I selected the option of clearing both cache and dalvick cache.
Then tried flashing rom again. Did not work.
I am sorry I cant recall what the error was when doing it, but I will let you know when I try again in a second (if it doesnt work this time.) [ I also found a different tutorial and would like to give it a try.
There isn't a way to get back to the same state your phone was in before wiping it since you did not do a backup. If you are gsm then find the gsm RUU. If CDMA then find the CDMA version. That will get you back to the stock version but it will be as if you just turned it on for the first time ever.
It would be easier to just download a different ROM and put it on your SD card then flash it. Although it won't be stock...
But before doing any of that just boot recovery and do a full wipe. Then reflash the ROM you were trying to install.
I got back to stock with RUU. Then I figured out how to successfully back up and flash my phone with different roms.
Thank you for all your help.
Good luck in your flashing endeavours! Its addicting.
I actually am having an issue. I am trying to flash a rom on my phone and it says im extracting boot.img with a progress bar on the bottom. The progress bar seems to be staying at one point and not moving.
He said something about naming something to PG86IMG and wasnt clear to me what to name PG86IMG.
Any speculations?
Edit: was impatient.

Try gaining s-off, flash hboot 1.49.0007 and all of your flashing problems will be gone!

I tried the wire trick. Couldn't get it to work. Maybe because I used speaker wire which isnt a sold wire but strands. Do you think that makes a difference?
As long as there is a connection all the way through, no. Keep in mind i tried 20 times or so, you have to get the timing right.
Take another look at the demo vid and try again, if you're not sure about the wire, use a paperclip with some tape around it. (tape is important, you don't want your skin to touch the metal)

I did the wire trick about a week or two ago and I couldnt time it just right so I just continuously tapped the SD card metal holder dealio with the paperclip about every second and it worked the fourth or fifth try.

Soft Brick, Backups stopped working, no roms will boot

So now on my evo, every rom i flash gets stuck in bootloop. Ive tried Meanrom,cm10.1,miui, and even the stock roms like JB 4.1. At first my backups would work, but that is no longer the case. Im not sure what else to include. Yes ive factory reset and wiped all cache. Yes i made sure the roms werent corrupt.
I tried using boot img flasher but that did not work.
I have no idea what else there is try.

Maybe downgrade/upgrade your recovery. Some phones are having issues with newer or older twrp releases.
Good luck man

I would try upgrading to a newer version

I'm having basically the exact same issues you had. Do you mind shedding some light my way? I've been in a soft brick for a while now. Although I almost had a rom go through, until my touchscreen was unresponsive (i think due to my bootloader showing S-ON and not S-OFF). I can access the bootloader and TWRP. I have no backups (this is my first time rooting and flashing, in case you haven't noticed). I don't know how to take the S-OFF or recover the old Sense 4 stock os. At this point i really would just like to use my phone. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
