[Q] Need help understanding SD INT/EXT on the Vibrant

Im not new to installing Roms on Android devices but Im having a hard time understanding the SD card setup. I realize the internal is the 16GB and the External is whatever you make it. I have a 8GB CL6 I installed and am not sure how the phone determines what goes on each.
I noticed Clockwork installs on the internal. Im about to flash Vibrant6 and am not sure if an ext3/4 partition would benefit me on the external. What tells the phone where to store the cache and files. Do all roms have to be flashed from the internal card? Looking for some clarification. Thanks.
I copy my roms on the External Sd Card and then I use Clockwork to boot into recovery and install from there.

I thought clockwork only sees the internal "sdcard" (/system/sdcard)

thats where i was confused. Nandroid backups are on internal, as well as the rest of clockwork files. not sure if its rom specific that dalvic and apps use the external over internal. should have just been NAND, thats what Sammy does for a job.

[Q] Possible Phone Brick/Phone Not Working

Earlier today, I realized that my phone doesn't recognize my SD card. I tried taking it out and putting it back in with no luck. Then I decided to re-flash the rom with ClockworkMod Recovery but it requires the sd card to flash which mine does not work. I also tried downloading twrp2.0 but again, the bootloader won't recognize it because it's not on the SD card. Lastly, I factory reset the phone hoping it would format the sd card, but now every time I unlock the phone, there is just a black screen. Any suggestions?
How did you factory format it?
From when the phone is turned on, or on recovery?
What you should do is get the memory card and stick it on your computer. It might be corrupted or something alike.
Once on your computer, format it to fat/fat32.
On windows:
Go on my computer, wait for memory device to be detected, and right click it.. then format.
On Mac:
Open: "Disk Utility" by either going to "utilities" on applications folder, or by searching for it on the spotlight search bar.
Then click umm.. im not on my mac now, google it.
After you do all that, put the ROM and the Recovery.
Then flash away.
Hope this helps.

Well, the phone says it can't mount the SD Card, even when I placed a different one in so I think it's an issue with the phone or rom.

take out the external sd card and do a nandroid on the internal sd card...then restart the phone and save you're nandroid somwhere safe...This is not going to solve your SD issue, but you'll atleast have a backup copy of your system if you ever have to get a new one... also if you have an micro sd to sd adaptor, try to stick the sd card in your computer (assuming you have an SD reader) and try to format it that way fat32 i believe.

I did the Nandroid Backup and I do have a USB with a port to insert a Micro SD Card, but it doesn't show that I plugged anything in. It may be a problem with the SD Card, but I also have another 8 Gig one that it won't mount or recognize.
when u go to settings-storage...what do you see? do you see mount/unmount sd card? or u cant even go to settings?
Stop replying and start listening.
You need to RE-format your SD card to FAT32.

Would it be possible to flash twrp through the bootloader or through fastboot without the SD, or can I flash a rom directly from clockwork recovery without an SD Card?

You can flash a recovery without an sdcard.
With the device in bootloader mode:
fastboot flash recovery c:\recoverydirectory\recoveryname.img

SD Card Mounting Problem

After installing clean blank rom via cwm my SD card was mounting but, I decided to move back to stock, and did so by flashing using ODIN multi downloader. After that, my external SD Card did not mount.

Have u tried to remove it and putting it back in ur phone again?
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nn2FB1P_Mn8
Yes, I did remove and reinsert.
Did u try to change the rom?
If this just happened just after you flashed that ROM it could be...
1. Set through your settings
2. Unmount/mount manually
You can also try making a backup of your SD Card contents to your PC, reformat the SD Card.. put your backup back to the SD Card and reboot phone

I tried using CM9 but still, it didn't mount the micro SD card. The mount option in settings is greyed out in all Roms.

[Q] Help! Can't mount sdcard!

So, I decided to fully format my sd card in hope that in CWM I could mount it to my PC and insert new ROM there, but guess what? It doesn't work!
I don't have external sd card, but few weeks ago I did it without problem! Now I am stuck without ROM, and waiting before stock rom is downloading to flash it with ODIN, but I don't want stock ROM with bloatware.
What should I do? Is there any way to push files from PC to internal sd card without CWM mounts and storage?

the actual internal sd card and android.secure was on that the dead sd card so what shall i do
1. Calm down.
2. Instead of mounting an sd card, you could mount usb storage in CWM. Then connect to your pc, transfer a rom (CWM flashable zip) to your sd card (internal or external, doesn't matter. Whichever you have working at the moment).
3. Flash rom in CWM.
