[Q] Rooting. I Just Need Answers & Help. - HTC One X+

Hello all.
I'd like to start with my issue: I bought an HTC One X+ a few months ago and it has been good. Like many others though, I am having terrible gaming performance when playing anything that isn't Hillclimb Racing or Vector. When gaming, I always want high framerates, as a pc gamer I've grown accustomed to it, that's why I originally bought the phone, considering Nvidia provides the processor. I know this is a common issue due to CPU and GPU scaling. I want to root my phone to get rid of this problem (using a program called setcpu, I believe). Now, I know this has been posted before, but everywhere I look it seems as though people are forgretting that not everybody is as familiar with android as they are. I can build a computer and jailbreak/modify an iPhone, but android is still foreign to me. I ask that you consider this when, if you so choose, you answer these questions below:
1) Is there a way to root a standard AT&T HTC One X+ as of right now?
2) If so, how would I go about doing this? I understand for the most part how to unlock the bootloader, but a comprehensive step by step tutorial is what I need, from another user who knows what they are doing and can explain it.
3) If I root the device. How would I get a Kernel like setcpu on my device? What would the process be? Is there a better option?
4) Is there anything else I would need to or should do to improve gaming performance on my phone?
I want to conclude with the hope that I get a reply to this post. I desperately want to unlock to potential of my phone, I just need proper guidance. I appreciate all who have taken the time to read and reply to this post and I wish you all the best in your technological endeavours.

1. Please use the search feature.
2. Please use the search feature.
3. As of right now, it is not easy to overclock a Tegra 3. It seems as if the changes only apply to one of the CPUs.
4. You can enable the "force GPU rendering" option under developer options for a boost on 2D games.

Like sarcasticphoenix said...search, search, search. I'm pretty new to Android but for all the talk I've seen about the "lack" of development for the HOX+ is seems like there is plenty going on to me. I guess maybe compared to the GSIII and other devices that may be true but I think I've found everything and anything I'd want in these forums.
I'll save you a little time and give you a few links that helped me when I recently unlocked and rooted.
This is a great thread breaking down all the ROMS, kernels, tools and mods for the X+
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074790
Here is the link to the thread with instructions for Hassoon2000's all-in-one tool which is great

Good luck and happy rooting!

noob retard needs help

ban me now.
i know i know, any hi! i'm new thread deserves beatings, and whilst i'm fully aware i'm tempting the wrath of you all by doing this....... but i don't know where else to look.
i got a htc hero 24hrs ago on orange (uk). upgrade from a sony k850i so i have never had a smartphone before. i have no idea what i'm doing with it.
i've looked but not found a RTFM page yet, or i am that retarded that i can't even find it. what i can find contradicts what i've previously read so i though i'd ask you lot....
anyway - grovelling apologies aside:
1) rooting - is there one simple way to do this, so far i have found 4 processes and don't know which ones to trust.
2) ROM's - finally found out how to get software for the phone-(shouldn't there have been a disk with the phone?) and have installed active sync. i have just downloaded:
RUU_Herrange_UK_2.73.61.5_release_signed_NoDriver
is that the best/most recent ROM? if not, what is?
i guess i dont know enough about the phone to know the differences and therefore where to start. does rooting your phone allow you to get access to other apps like cydia and icy for the iphone do for example? whats the point, apart from to enable read/write access on the SD card (whats the biggest SD Card a Hero will take by the way?)
3) radios? what difference does it make if i'm listening to queen or queens of the stone age lol. seriously, whats the score here and where do i look for noob info?
help me. people with iphones are telling me i did a bad thing getting a hero. make me wise in the ways of the droid.
please and thank you.
Hi mate,
I am no expert as I have only had my Hero a week and have come from winmo. But I have rooted my phone and installed a rom and it was dead easy.
1. Follow this video - http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-root-your-htc-hero-in-one-click/ where he says to unzip or extract the cm-hero-recovery.img file all he means is find it on your pc and just copy that file to the SDCard.
I would also recommend doing a backup after rooting your phone from that video. To do this turn ur phone off, then hold the home and power button together and that will get you into the recovery area, then just select the nandroid backup option.
2. I have used the Modaco rom and have had no problems at all with it, not sure if its better than the orange one though sorry.
3. When people talk about the radio file for the Hero they are talking about a file that enables the phone to recieve the mobile phone signal, it also enables the phone to recieve a wi fi signal etc. I even think it does GPS, basically these can be tweaked to get better reception, thus you can update them. I really hope that made sense lol and hope you get what i mean.
4. Oh and if you want to put a new ROM on ur phone then follow this video - http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-your-htc-hero/
If not just pm me lol.
brilliant - thank you.
is there a list of available ROM's for the hero anywhere and a list of what they do? ie benefits rather than a bunch of files names that have tweeked - they make no sence to me.
i dont know how you'd weigh one ROM up against another, to me it's like comparing chinese and japanese when you speak neither !
also is there an alternative marketplace, i know apple iphone has icy and cydia. i dont want warez just wondering if there's an alt. community as apple have out there (i'm thinking you guys are 'it' lol)
Don't think there is a list of ROM's as tbh the only good one around is the Modaco one. There is an Orange one out but I think people still rate the Modaco one as better, but I could be wrong in that. If you go for the Modaco one though you won't regret it.
As far as I know there is no other marketplace.
If you get into any problems in rooting and putting a ROM on ur Hero just pm me.

Advice pls - new Orange Hero, software ver, root?

Hi there, I'm a Dream and Desire owner who has rooted both handsets and I'm reasonably confident I can follow instructions
A colleague at work has just ordered the Hero on Orange (UK), and she's gone online and started reading up on it - first mistake! She's come across a few complaints concerning the Orange ROM and she's asked me "the phone guy" how easy it is to load the HTC ROM onto her phone.
I was caught on the hop, having never even seen a Hero in real life, nor followed the XDA forums for this particular handset. I have a few questions for you guys, if you don't mind - will likely save me hours of reading
1. What version of Android are Orange dishing out on their Heros atm? Donut or Eclair?
2. Depending on the answer to above, please point me in the direction of a rooting guide for the thing.
3. If I can root, what's the best developer ROM around for SPEED and STABILITY? This is a one time thing, I don't want her running back to me every other week, with problems that I can't solve there and then without flashing the thing all the time.
4. If root can't be achieved, can I use a goldcard method to load up the HTC ROM instead? Show me where/how please.
5. What are the known problems with the Orange ROMs - is it even worth me going to the trouble? Will loading up the HTC ROM make a noticeable difference for her?
Finally, she hasn't even got the thing yet, and since I've never had it I can't imagine what probs she may run into. It would be nice to educate her and get on these forums reading and doing stuff herself, but I don't think that will happen tbh. With that in mind I'm looking for suggestions to optimise the thing for permanent daily use. I don't want bleeding edge, just as much performance as I can squeeze out of it without compromising reliability.
Many thanks for your replies - don't be afraid to get technical with me!

1) Should be 1.5 (can't remember codename) as I don't think they have finished customising their own 2.1 ROM.
I doubt many carriers will do 2.1 on shipped phones, as hero is at end of life tbh and likely won't be made in large enough quantities to justify using new ROM.
2) http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=375
3) VillainROM 12 or any other final GSM WWE should be fine. Just test if a little and it should be fine. Watch out for OC settings if you want it to be noob-proof. Go for safe settings.
4) That guide explains all methods
5) No idea. IMHO carrier ROMs are all crap, just like stock ones. No root is the big one for me.
Just install a decent ROM for this last point. Anything recent that's been up for a while without many updates should be fine
Thanks anon2122, that helps me out a lot

Unfortunately not right now, as the server appears to be down
But it will be back soon. When it is, go to development forum, then in the list of announcements is one for radio rom download links.
Click that, and take the second newest one iirc. Or read the later posts for people confirming which version works on which network.

[Q] What do I need to know before i root?

I'm thinking about rooting my G2, currently running 2.3.4. I plan on using the method shown here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
But before I potentially brick my phone, as I am a COMPLETE noob, I was wondering if there are any topic I should read first. Things that will help me understand what I'm doing and how to fix common issues I may/will run into. I did some searching for noob guides but they were all phone specific, and I couldn't find anything specific to the G2 for noobs. A dictionary of terms, for example, would be very helpful. Any and all advice and links would be highly appreciate! Thanks in advance.
P.s. Sorry if this was asked a million times. I did search, as i mentioned, but searches yielded 50,000+ results and not much help.
Generally IMO rooting is relatively safe, its more about what you do after rooting your phone where the potential to "brick" it comes about. I.E Flashing Radios ect..
There is plenty of guides going about the net for a whole range of phones, what i done when i decided i wanted to root my phone was read a few articles for my phone make/model and read them all again just to make sure i understood them as i was in a similar position to yourself with very little knowledge about rooting or flashing roms ect..
You should check out other sites as well as this one of course and find one that you feel you can understand, theunlockr.com (just browse the "how to" section for your phone) they have videos (But not all of them work) was a good one for me aswell as using google to look for videos. Another good site is androidforums and not forgetting XDA its self.
Good luck....
You are on the wrong forum. This one is for the HTC Hero GSM, you have a G2 aka Desire Z.
I don't know how I missed that Habarug. Mods please feel free to relocate to the proper section.
Your not the first one gonna contact some mods and ask if they can remove the g2 touch part of the forum name

[Q] Overclock HTC Legend

Hi guys,
I have just successfully installed Cyanogen 7.1 on my Legend. I've been searching a little here and there regarding configurations, clocking & such. Found this very clear guide on how to overclock a Legend:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794829
However, when I navigated to Settings-> CyanogenMod settings-> Performance-> CPU settings
I found a built in option to set both max & min CPU frequency......so I'm wondering, is it still needed to follow the guide I linked or can I overclock the phone by just changing the CPU frequencies in the menu I found?
Yeah, you could do it your way, but with overclocking, you'll be finding yourself switching back and forth often.
Use SetCPU. It's not free on the market, but free for XDA forum users.
So I fixed SetCPU on the phone, but I have absolutely no clue how to use it (I'm quite the newb when it comes to this). Is there any guide on how to use the application? Perhaps even for Legend specifically?
Also, is there a point in chaning my kernel version?
Right now, and I never changed it, I have:
2.6.32.17
What's not to understand in SetCPU? Tap autodetect and set your clocks. If you're unable to perform such a task, then don't even try to overclock.
Sent from my HTC Legend using xda premium
There's a whole lot not to understand when seeing the application for the first time. And IF there would be a guide, catching up and understanding the application would go faster.
I'm sure you were new to overclocking at some point aswell cyRq. Or perhaps you're a born OC-genious?
Anyway, I managed to figure out how to use it.
Actually I've had a couple of awards/points on hwbot.org if you're really asking me about OC...
A genius? Not really. But I obtained a magical skill called reading (sometimes I can even write).
But seriously...good to hear that you've managed to figure things out. Good look and don't smoke your phone.

What's wrong with this guide???
Sometimes I wonder what would happen to this society in time. People fortunate enough to have everything at their disposal act as they were blind, def and cripled. Pitty.
I thought the purpose of a Q&A section is for dumb people to ask dumb questions? If you don't agree with/can't handle that without spamming question marks & express your fear of future society, then why bother to look in these threads at all?
I never saw the guide you reffered to, and obviously I already knew from the start that there is guides out there. I was asking if any kind soul had the power to link a good one. I could've searched for & found a guide myself, hell I learnt the goddam application without one.
I was asking for a friendly advice is all.
zzzzzzzzzZ(z)
--> oh, & calm down :X cool senior members acting all arrogant, now that's a pitty
Spam is yours... repeating the same question over and over again. I answered you clear and simple with a link to a guide that has been there since I don't remember how long.
Q&A is definitely not storage for duplicate questions. And I certainly don't see any arogance in my answer which I'm sure will help someone.
Alright alright. In the end it comes down to me not wanting to sabotage my phone by lack of experience.
Your post was helpful, however slightly spiced with condescension. But that's alright, my bad for expecting anything else on the internet.
I lay down my sword
I put "setcpu" into Google's search box and 1st hit was that guide...
Sent from my HTC Legend
Okok, once again I stand corrected.
Don't worry mate, I knew it was a lazy question. And as I wrote earlier; I am aware that there is a whole bunch of guides for setcpu out there. My only thought was that there might be some specific configurations for HTC Legend alone that could be made, and perhaps there would be a guide for that. Which is the reason for why I opened this thread under HTC Legend section in the first place.

[Q] Game Lag Fix HELP/Help Rooting the AT&T HTC One X+?

Hello everyone, I'd just like to start by saying that I apologize if this thread has already been answered, but I just searched for it and I need some definitive answers that I haven't been able to find. Also this is my first forum post, so please bear with me if something has been answered in another thread for this phone.
I just got an HTC One X+ through AT&T and I really like it. THE ISSUE IS: The phone has a supremely fast processor, mine scoring 7697 in the standard Quadrant benchmark, but, in GPU intensive games from the Play Store, I am experiencing severe lag, especially in need for speed most wanted. I have read that the original One X had issues with not all of the processor cores being utilized and fluctuating CPU clock speeds, and that it can be fixed using one of the methods from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664391
I was wondering:
1) Is it possible for me to carry out any of the methods in this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664391) on an HTC One X+? By that I mean can I root a One X+ on AT&T?
2) If so, how would I go about rooting the device? (please be detailed this is my first android product)
3) Would I need an overclockable kernel? How would I get this?
4) Will I lose all of my contacts?
5) Would there be an easier way to fix my problem? I know it isn't my device in particular, I have read of other cases of this lag.
Thanks for the consideration, hopefully if I can get this resolved this post will be able to help other noobs (yes I know, the video said not to be one) who are trying to learn about their One X+ devices.
Any advice is welcomed!

So the first thing to do would be to unlock boot loader and gain root, there should be many guides in the development section that will cover this in more detail. Install ARHD or similar to improve speed and gain access to governors. The og one x mods and such should work with our phone because of the identical hardware. The last thing we need is overclock and such kernels don`t exist yet anyway, the tweak that helped the most with the og one x was probably gpu overclock which our phone has stock. I would recomend backing up contacts and such in HTC sync first though. Try the renovate gaming boost app, works like a charm.
The root method you linked is not for the one x+.
The One x+ is not an overclocked version of the One x, it is a whole new phone.
Use this thread to unlock the bootloader and root when the time is right,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994961
you will lose everything on your phone. Between HTC sync, and Google sync you should be able to recover everything important. You will still have to redownload your apps, and make all the little tweaks.
Currently there are no custom ROM's for the ATT versions.
Dunno if the any of the CPU controller apps will work or help you though. I would not use any kernel until the there is one in the One x+ development thread that is conformed to work with ATT phones.
Currently the devs are not being good about stating clearly whether something is international or ATT, so read the threads carefully.
It wasn't too hard to root my AT&T One X+, it only took me around 30 minutes.
The all-in-one toolkit made it really easy.
I was having issues with ADB, so I had to copy the SuperSU.zip over to the phone via Dropbox, but it wasn't too hard.
However, I tried to overclock the CPU a bit to get rid of some UI lag, but it didn't allow me, most likely because the phone is on the original kernel.

I do not own an AT&T One X+ but thinking about upgrading to it from my HTC One XL. Apparently the One X+ comes with a battery saver mode and I know I've read somewhere (sorry, I forgot where exactly ) that unless disabled, it will cause lag in some instances since the CPU won't utilize its maximum values. The One X+ just hit the scene here in the US and a few developers have popped up for the ocassion to aid the AT&T variant of the device and thanks to this amazing community that is XDA, people have collected enough money to buy 2 AT&T phones to 2 developers: Lloir and Hasoon2000. As Joshua previously posted, there are no current ROMs that are solely for AT&T but that will change in the future. Bootloader unlocking and rooting your One X+ seems relatively simple. If I were to get the phone, the first thing I'd do is unlocking its bootloader since AT&T may make it unlockable via HTCDev upon future updates (OTA or newer phone revisions). Go with what sarcasticphoneix was posting about using the One-Click tool If anything happens, we're here to help. Just remember to read carefully about some tweaks/mods compatibility with your phone. It's a standard procedure not just for the One X+ but for every phone out. Research is a must. Hope everything works out and good luck.
