Help on rooting without a pc - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hello, I did all the reading on my new note, learnd alot, but I didn't see a topic on how to root my note without a PC, as i don't have a pc its broken,so I can flash roms, can anyone let me know if this is even possible? Ty

Not possible. You have to use Odin3 to install a custom recovery, then flash SU or a rooted ROM. No apps in the market work for us.

Like the guy above me mentioned you have to have a PC. Use someone else's for about 10-15mins, Install CWM and then Super User. If you want to flash anything else besides those just make sure you transfer them to your external SD card or internal while your using that computer. Hope that helped a little. Still kind of new to this all.

^^^^ good advice.

It depends on which method you want to run. You can use the rootzwiki leak which is a tar file used in Odin. Or you can use dagr8's CWM flashable zip.
Let me know which one you want to use and I'll give you further directions. (Odin method would be easier for newbs)

If you know how to use CWM I'd recommend using that one. I believe if you flash the rootzwiki one you will lose root and CWM.

I have done a nandroid and when you say flash i guess you mean load the exe through odin, if so it comes back as failed all the time, do i have to try a diff com or something.

I would suggest maybe starting with the collective First flight ics it just has fewer steps at this point. What you want to do is download the rom to your sd card and follow the instructions on wiping.
If you need more help feel free to pm me.

1. Back Up your Stuff.
2. Wipe Data/ Factory Reset
3. Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
4. Flash .zip in recovery
5. Allow full first boot, reboot
6. Sign in to Market to add account.

Yep. Initial root requires a computer.
If you really need to root right now, download Odin and CF-Root on your phone and ask someone to borrow their computer or use a public computer. Move the files to the computer and root it in less than one minute and you're done!
i have a few questions maybe you guys can help... so here we go:
when you root with odin, it unlocks the phone giving you su right. does this also change your rom?
how is the launcher different than the rom? difference between flashing rom and kernal?
last one... when you install a custom rom, can you delete it if there are bugs to reinstall a different one or use the stock?

Problems/doubts related to rooting the phone

I was going through threads on rooting, ROMs, kernels and bricking. Before reading threads about bricking I wanted to root my phone but after reading I got scared of bricking my phone which I think is difficult to debrick (unbrick).
Is it really the case that we cannot debrick the phone at home? Is it ok to root with such a consequence?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
All I can say is if you're that worried about it, don't root your phone or flash anything. Leave it on stock & enjoy it.
Is it possible to change ROM without rooting the phone?
And what are the chances of bricking the phone while rooting? And if bricked what is procedure to make it as earlier

use this to root your S2...It is 100% risk free. However use only if u are on ICS

Also, read everything before u flash a rom/kernel..95% of them get bricked without reading or consulting properly

Just type "list of custom roms for **your phone model** " in google.

This is the whole story regards my current problem
early this morning as i open my phone, i used to think that if i will transfer all files from my phone "system" in my 8g sd card it will be helpfull to lessen the burden of my processing ram that is 489mb available. I attemp to use root explorer to transfer the system files on my sd cards. i cut it in the root explorer option and paste it in my sd cards that is 8g. seconds passed it transfer files but as minute goes by it stock up and dont run anymore. i used to press the reboot system which is power botton + up volume and hold it in a couple of seconds. and then i stock in the system recovery and dont know what to do next. everytime i install some zip. files it is written that E: SIGNATURE VERIFICATION FAILED INSTALLATION ABORTED. thats the whole story. hope someone will help me to fix this issue.thanks for your time reading my message.

Sorry man! Your stock rom was collapsed.....i got the same situation(error signature) with my samsung galaxy tab. Then i came to know that it was soft bricked.
Then i kept my phone in download mode and flashed stock rom(available in official samsung site) through Odin software using my laptop. Then is worked like before
So now what you do is......
Open google..and search for "How to soft unbrick **your phone model** "
You may find something which is helpfull.

I didn't realise it wasn't a good idea to use ROM manager with the s3.. Why is that then? I went that way because my laptop is a Macbook and hiemdall didn't seem to work well so I had a quick ten mins on a laptop at work with Odin to root and then I only had my Macbook to use so ROM manager is the way I went too manager seems to be the same thing as well

From experience I can say that using ROM Manager can soft brick your device. I once wanted to use it with my old S2 to install CWM and I got into a bootloop afterwards. Only re-flashing a Samsung ROM via Odin helped to boot into Android.
One of the easiest way (in my opinion) to root your device is to flash a Kernel via Odin that will give you Root. The Siyah Kernel is a good place to start, since the developer also provides tar files for odin to flash. It will give you Root and from then on you can install Stweaks and flash CWM from there.
I wish i d of spoke to u a few months ago when I first rooted cause I buggered about with it for weeks! I didn't realise you could install recovery from steaks either.. Have you got much apple Mac/android sync experience?.. I can only describe it as trying to get arch rivals to mate!.. Might just dual boot windows on the Macbook if I can't get them to play nice
