Hi,
Just wondering what is the best setting on the stock lumia 920 camera for indoor bar scene or clubbing scene? Since there will be a lot of people moving around and I want to decrease any blurs, I was thinking of decreasing the exposure to the minimalist setting and increasing the ISO to 800 with flash on.
Questioned Camera Capabilities... But...
to be honest, don't expect alot from the Carl Zeiss Camera lens to perform as good as a Sony Handy-cam for video shooting or a DSLR for still images.
I'm a photographer and I've put the Lumia 920 camera on exhaustive tests. the performance of the f/2.0 lens ratio to the size of the Camera Sensor (1/3.2") really surprised me. I know that comparing a cell phone camera to a DSLR is like comparing a kite to a space ship! but it's really usable and better than carrying a chunky DSLR camera.
the bottom line is, you might get some acceptable results ONLY with still images and NOT video shots. just crank up the ISO to 800, also crank up the Exposure to 2.. and try to capture STEADY people and objects. NOT moving people because you'd get shaky blurry images.
I had the HTC 8X before it got it exchanged with the Lumia 920. the HTC 8x camera provides more camera custom options that our Nokia.

I recently switched to the Lumia 920 from my Samsung Infuse. I've noticed that the Lumia's photos aren't anywhere near as sharp as my Infuse's photos. I'm finding the culprit to be the lower (72ppi) pixel density. My Infuse had a 96ppi camera and photos were much better, even without the IS that the Lumia has.
Why, Nokia? You've fooled us with the optical IS and 8.7MP sensor. The least you could have done is met the pixel density of a year and a half old phone.
I would post some sample photos, but can't yet.
The reason the photos are soft is because of Nokia's aggressive post processing. They are aware of the issue, so I'm sure an update is in the works to rectify the issue.
Also, you can edit the photo by doing the auto-fix or using another photo editing app from the store to sharpen them for now.

if those numbers are correct, a lower pixel density in the camera module is actual a good thing. it means that each individual pixel is larger and is able to sample more light resulting in less distortion due to noise. this is a good thing as it represents a departure from the megapixel race where the number of megapixels was increasing but the light going to each one was decreasing leading to little improvement if not a reduction in picture quality. if you do look at the megapixels though, the infuse only has an 8MP sensor vs 8.7MP for the 920 (although this isnt quite true as a maximum of around 8MP are ever used in the 920, the rest are to provide the ability to change aspect ratio of the images.
i think americasteam sums up the real reasons for what you are seeing above. you should notice even so that the images are more consistent and do not blur as easily (ignoring the sharpness issue) I do hope the update comes soon, im looking forwards to having sharp amazing quality images which really stand out!
additionally, if you observe when you take a picture, for a fraction of the second, the picture is sharp as you see on the screen. Then suddenly it is soft as the post processing is complete.
I have been very disappointed with the Z Ultra camera, when I'm about to take a photo it looks gorgeous on the phone screen but then it looks crappy after the shot is taken.
There is a big loss of detail, it's almost if some sort of oil paint effect was applied to the photos on.
Today I noticed that the videos have much better image quality than the photos, I can pause a video and see how beautiful the image looks compared to regular shots.
I used to own a T2 Ultra and it had an excellent depth of field which allow me to shoot beautiful macros, the Z ultra has a bright lens on the specs but I can't get the same quality on the macros.
Overall it seems that the camera driver is messing around with the sharpness on the still pictures and screwing up something, is the camera driver source code available from the AOSP project?
I tried many, many other apps but it doesn't help much other than adding post processing tricks on top of the pictures, the problem seems to lie on the camera driver.
Thanks
use a 3rd party camera app that allows you to set the ISO abd set that at 50 or 100 at max. The image will be better, but not perfect. The underlying processor is poor in the ZU

I felt that there could be some hope for the camera if the driver could be improved, the specs of the image sensor seem to be not bad compared to it's "brother" sensors: here.
I still believe that the driver is applying some heavy sharpening on the image and not doing a good job as far as of contrast/dynamic range as well as encoding raw image to JPEG inefficiently thus delivering washed out pictures.
IMX134 8 M Exmor RS sensor.

Hi,
A camera is a very important factor for me when buying a phone,
I bought my Redmi Note 3 after reading some underwhelming reviews about the camera, thinking "oh well, how bad can the rear camera be?" - well, the camera is really under performing, very soft images, noticeable noise in almost every scenario, very disappointing.
My question is that,
Is it really a hardware issue, or just poor camera algorithms coding?
if the former, I will just look for another phone and sell mine,
otherwise, I will (try to) wait patiently until the appropriate software update will come
Thanks

Camera is nothing but decent , specially at natural light conditions.it seems great at night condition without flash due to low aperture.miui 8 greatly improved my camera experience.i found alomost zero noise in night shots. Enough for a $200 phone
I think it takes good pictures but I found that any kind of motion will blur the picture (even just walking and snapping a pic), so motion sucks, try taking a picture of a moving dog it will just be a blur, low light also sucks, but if you take still pictures under good lighting pictures look great, I think there is a soft spot for this camera it's just hard to find, also lowering the resolution to 12MP will take 16:9 widescreen photos rather then 4:3 photos in 16MP mode
Part of the problem is it never wants to increase the shutter speed properly in order to keep iso low. It tends to take most pictures at 1/25th or so, which is great for static but not for moving objects where you need a faster shutter speed to freeze motion.

low light shots are average.
daytime shots are great.
did you tweak the default settings?
which ROM are you on?....try to be on latest MM dev or china rom
also try using open camera.
at this price range, show me a phone which gives better images?
I tried all the tweaks available including using Open Camera, nothing really helped.
I ended up selling it and buying an Mi4C - the difference in photo quality is unbelievable (at a price of around 90$ new)
Had 7 different smart phones this year, and Redmi Note's camera was the weakest among them, for me it's very noticeable.
Hello there, this is dedicated to all my photographers and videographers of LG G8x.
First things first, no matter what how many times you complaint them the problem is not fixable through software updates because front camera have fixed focus.
So i think there is no other option than this.
Case 1: (Professional phone photographers)
Guys if you are carrying a 35mm or 50mm then mount it to the front camera and zooming 1.5x is the solution for shooting 4:3 aspect ratios and only 1.2x zoom for 9:16 or higher aspect ratios.
+ Get lot of blur or shallow depth of field.
+ Can use Canon or Nikon lenses to achieve high end quality. Plus features if your lens have OIS, UV protection etc.
- Weight is a problem.
- Zooming 1.5x makes photo to loose its quality a little bit (especially in nights).
Case 2: (Cheap solution)
This is an inexpensive solution, get yourself a wide angle lens for under 200 rupees for indians and under 2 US dollars.
Buy that 3 in one lens and use the wide angle and zoom 1.2x for 4:3 aspect ratio and 1.1x for 9:16 or higher aspect ratios.
+ Very Cheap
+ Light Weight
+ Less zoom means lesser quality reduction
- No quality lenses are used, little bit lesser color reproduction.
Buy anywhere online by typing 3 in 1 lenses for phone.
Hope this would help you out, if helps don't say thanks but help me find a solution to record 1080p 240 fps video with zooming (stock camera doesn't allow zooming in that setting)
Filmic pro is not working for slow motion .
Moment pro camera doesn't work for slow motion.
Google Camera doesn't record slow motion.
Suggest me a way to do this.
Thank you for all the patience.

Why you need to zoom ? Just take video at 240fps then crop, you will archive same quality because there is no optical zoom in our device, it only uses digital zoom even in photo mode (i gave you solution) ,give a thumb up
Did you like the video quality ?? Do u think our phone beat the midrange smartphones??
Thank you for the suggestion but while cropping as you told, the cornors of the video will have too much distortion which can be resolved by digital zooming a little bit.
And the answer to your question is, This LG G8x beats all the midrange smartphones and i have seen results better than iphone 11 (believe me).
It also beats Oneplus´s all flagships with its Camera capabilities.
Its DXOmark Score is 99, the highest score for a smartphone is 130.

did you posted 2 time about the fix on xda i thought, replay didnt saved and replayed again in your another xda thread:laugh:
can it beat oneplus 7 pro in tearms of camer perfomance ?
Easily beats Oneplus 7 pro in both photo and video modes.
Comparatively Oneplus always makes it pictures over saturated which is ugly i feel. But LG G8x prefers natural tone for skin, good HDR and coming to indoor photography G8x is a killer. Very least noise with the 12Mp sensor and never use that Ultra Wide angle 13Mp in low light or indoor (Too much Noise)
How is the camera quality? Im coming from S22u
Battery is ok. Zoom definetly not the camera to shine. Ultrawide and standard lens are very good. However, coming from an S22u you might have a downgrade..
Main camera captures a lot of details and offers a very good (and bright) night mode. Ultrawide and tele are "ok cameras". They can take good pictures in some conditions but don't expect much, they are not in S22u or i13 Pro territory. You'll notice too that the default camera app tends to oversaturate colors. Sometimes overly So. I got Gcam for that reason. The front cameras for selfies are also ok cameras. In poor light they are almost unusable for me. I recommend using the main camera for selfies. Find N is a great phone but the cameras are not the highlight.
Cameras on this Oppo are very good. Samsung S22 Ultra is plagued with horrible shutter lag nobody talks about. Not anymore since I upgraded to Oppo find N. And here you have proper 50mm portrait focal length unlike 75 (3x) they now put in every flag****.
