Hmm... How do i check this?

Check your IMEI in settings/about phone, if it begins with '0049...', that's your problem. Whatever you do, do not post you actual IMEI here; a confirmation you either have the generic IMEI or your correct one will do.

Thanks MistahBungle!
And also see if your baseband version is shown as 'Unknown'.

Sounds like the phone is blocked on your carrier's network or it's somehow become locked/borked in some way. Call your carrier in the first instance & ask them (I mean it; call them. Just don't come back here & say you did. There might be something very simple at their end causing this).
If they say there's no issue from their end, you need to detail (and I mean detail; if you remain vague, you won't get your phone fixed) every little thing you've done to/with the phone; what you've flashed (anything; roms, kernels, modems, mods, RIL's), when you've flashed it & the steps you took, what apps you've installed/uninstalled for the past month or two.
Remember, the more detail you give, the more likely it is someone recognises what's causing it & the quicker you fix your phone.

[Q] i9100 not booting up

Hi
I was using stock 4.1.2 but was having some problems of mobile getting stuck in different applications so i when to stock 4.0.4. the mobile booted. i went to recovery mode and did a factory data reset.
now it is not booting at all .. no sign of any life at all
tell me what to do as i am not able to find any jig here in Saudi Arabia
If the phone won't boot into recovery mode (hold home/volume up/power) or download mode (hold home/volume down/power) or won't boot normally after being left to charge overnight, you probably need a motherboard replacement. So either service centre, or do a Google/eBay search & try to find a phone with a broken screen you can take the motherboard from & swap out for the dead one in your phone (ask a local mobile repair shop to do this for you).
Edit - If you can't buy a jig locally, you can find one easily on eBay/elsewhere online (might take you a week or two to get it, but your phone isn't going anywhere). I suggest you try one even tho it probably won't work.
@MistahBungle:
Is this the dreaded eMMC BrickBug?
"To err is human, to forgive is divine"
Sent from my SGS II
I think so. Most of the cases here have involved people with rooted 4.0.4 stock kernels & CWRecovery, but I remember Entropy saying not long after this thing surfaced that he personally knew of one example of stock recovery on 4.0.4 bricking a phone as well (remember this was when it first happened), no doubt since then there have been lots of other 'purely stock' (both kernel & recovery) examples of the brickbug striking that we haven't seen here on XDA.
Based on what the OP has said, it's a fairly logical guess, put it that way.
Claim warranty, just say you factory reset and went off on you.
Drop that you were on 4.0.4.
Outta warranty, go to the store anyway and / or contact samsung.

Yeah you have been hit by the emmc brickbug. Sorry.

Very little chance the jig would work..
If you have warranty, you can claim it. If you don't, you may have to pay for it.

Depends on where the brick bug occured. There are chances that you can recover http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2058683 by changing the memory table and ignoring the effected parts. I didn't try, but just as information.

[Q] Galaxy SII Stuck on Boot nor download or recvoery

Hi there, I have a friends S2 of which i was meant to repair...the symptoms he described the phone having seemed like a fairly simple repair. On the contrary it is rather difficult. I have searched several forums for a possible solution and found none. At first the problem was getting the phone to start or at least charge the battery, later discovered the port was busted so i used external battery charger. Now the phone boots but doesn't pass the initial Samsung logo screen ( the one that shows the phone model and what not). Tried looking around for solutions but only found answers for when download mode is accessible. I have tried several times to enter recovery and download but have had no luck....
PLEASE HELP :crying:
Relax mate!
What you have is probably a bootloop.. Are you absolutely sure you can't enter Download or Recovery modes?

Ur next option would be to use a USB Jig, but it seems you can't because of your damaged port.
Come to think of it, even download mode can not help if you cannot use ur port.
Am sorry.. but I don't know what else to do other than taking it to a Service Centre. You might as well replace the port also then.

Hi there...sorry i know its been a while but i had revision to do. Coming back to the phone, the port was replaced and we used a jig (purchased from eBay--XD)
went to download mode, used ODIN v3 1.85 and installed stock rom. After successful install, the phone reboots but then gets stuck at the samsung sII splash screen which the switches off and then reboots to the dead battery trying to charge icon.
any reason as to why this may be happening???
Bootloop.
If you are on any ROM but 4.0.4, go to recovery and wipe cache & factory reset.
You keep getting a bootloop? full wipe and/or nuke script.

Can't....recovery doesn't work...only download with the help of jig.
Thought I was the only reply, check under the battery, see what model you own.

I stand correct, I saw the others replies. Still do that I suggested just now.

I'll have an attempt at that and let you know what the outcome is.
i have tried both v5 and beta v6 none work....it comes to the splashscreen with the model number but this time it has a yellow triangle on it. I tried getting into recovery mode by taking the battery out, holding the volume up button and home button then put the battery in and power the phone. nothing happens....any inputs.

Try again. Since the kernel has been flashed successfully, u should have CWM now.
Try removing battery, wait a few minutes, reinsert. Then press and hold volume up button first, then home button and then the power button. Remember to hold all three down until you enter CWM recovery.
Good luck!

I've tried what you have suggested but it seems as though the problem is consistent. I can not access recovery mode...have tried flashing the kernel several times yet i have had no luck.
Aha...you need to flash a ROM then.
I suggest you flash jb leak (only phone, code and csc).
You can either search for it or you can ask neo to provide you the ROM link.

May I have the link to download JB leak for s2 please...possibly with a small brief tutorial guide please....thanks in advance

[Q] How to know if my GTi9100 S2 is soft or hard bricked thru?

Hello,
I have this weird feeling lately even if I don't play hard with my phone other than re-flashing or updating stock firmwares on my GTi9100 (no games with custom ROMs). Last week I fresh installed XWLSN , rooted with 'PhilZ-cwm6 v4.92.8 with CWM 6.0.3.0 based recovery', cleaned up bloats (listed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016419), cleaned up unwanted program start ups (System Tuner app), did a nandroid backup prior to all thsee... ALL IS WELL.
Few days back some guys said they are calling me, the phone keeps ringing but no answer (it happened once). I can't find those missed calls in my logs so I wonder what gone wrong. Today I left charging the phone from my laptop via USB (normally I do), I just tried to unlock it for something the phone showed up black no buttons responsive...I immediately called from my friend's mobile, it's ringing at whose end but not on my phone. I force rebooted it and things are back cool.
What's up with this? Do I mess withe the firmware?? Just another Typical Touchwiz/Homescreen freeze story?
I am too careful and I mostly know what I did on this after rooting.
Tips please.
I don't know why it's been doing that, but since the phone is working it's not bricked at all.

Freezing all those apps is obviously ur issue. A guy on that thread had posted that on freezing all those apps, his phone didn't boot anymore.
Some app crucial to the proper functioning may have been inter rupted. Since u have a nandroid, I suggest you restore it to fix this issue first.
Then you can try freezing apps one at a time, checking whether they cause any issues.

[Q] Yellow Triangle after months of usage

So I was recently downloading new apps over Playstore, using Whatsapp and quite a few other apps were running in the background. My battery was fairly low, and the phone was beginning to slow down. I believe as I went to charge it, or just before I tried charging it, the phone shut down and then rebooted, but never rebooted past the yellow triangle.
I rooted, and flashed a ROM about 2 months ago, so I am accustomed to seeing the yellow triangle when I switch on my phone, and wasn't fussed about it being there. I flashed a nightly ROM I believe it is called, and it was an S3 type Jellybean ROM. (Forgive me for not knowing the technical names).
I can boot into recovery mode, but whilst looking in recovery mode I have seen messages such as E: Can't mount
I'm using CWM-based Recovery v6.0.2.9
The ROM I was using enabled me to use face recognition to unlock the phone if that helps.
Important thing to bear in mind is the fact that I had been using my phone after a root/ROM flash for about 2 months, and it wasn't immediately after a root as most seem to experience on XDA.
How do I recover my baby again?

It seems u wiped the Dalvik cache in recovery. That usually results in a longer booting time.
Since ur phone is not stuck anymore, there is no need to flash via Odin.
P.S. Write down the info given in Settings > About Phone. That will help u know which rom u have, which kernel and what android version u are on.
