Using simplicity ROM, and I noticed it has two files, plus once it does a update, the update in data/app.
I've uninstalled the update, then deleted the two files and everything is working ok. play store hasn't redownloaded this file. So what are these files for?
com.google.android.gm-1.apk
and
com.google.android.gm-2.apk
also vennding 1 and 2.
correction it looks like it has redownloaded it behind the scenes, this time it's on sd card /mnt/asec
hmmm still having problems, after updating system with linksd process is crashing. Is there anyway of removing google play services (I know you can do this, in system then data) and then installing google play services & play latest version? Will installing gapps solve everything, or is that a old build so it'll just do the same thing (update, put a new copy in data)

Since stock firmware has old collection of google apps, and updating means it doesn't over write the system apps, it justs creates another copy- would it be possible to wipe the collection of stock google apps, then flash over a new updated collection of google apps? I have
gapps-gb-20110828-signed, but with 2011 date that seems pretty old. Isn't there a 2012/2013 build?
Also my phone has LK1 firmware, would this be useful to you guys?

simply update the app you want to, and then integrate the update into rom with the help of link2sd or titanium backup

cheers will give updating system app a go. It's worked for play store, but for maps and youtube when I action, integate... it says system full. Even though I still have 70MB free.
I guess uninstall updates, delete maps & youtube manually in es file explorer and re-download again? It was only play store that is handy having it integrated, since that is an essential app to download other google apps.
got it working. rebooted, then let kies update firmware, rebooted again, then integrated maps and yotube
seems to work, however since doing linksd update system app, google service has stopped responding. No way of having a clean ROM with very latest google play store? The one I've seen has a older build, and other google apps. So it'll update it anyway.
one work around is moving play services and play store to user app. Delete any play services/play store in system. Now it won't create another copy, it'll use the user one. Of course if you do a reset it'll lose those files, but since it's easy to restore or recovery not a big deal (and saving 20 MB)
Hi,
A couple of days ago, (stupidly) I decided that I wanted more internal memory space so I ended up deleting and reinstalling Google Play, as the Convert To User App option within Link2SD didn't work as it said something about can't finding Certificates; something like that.
Anyway so now when I go to install an application, it simply crashes and doesn't work. It loads fine; just doesn't download anything.
I've tried clearing Data & Cache for both the Google Play Application and the Download Manager Application.
Any ideas?
EDIT: Had to push it back onto the System Side. I'm sure I remember being able to install it onto my SD Card before?
Device: Samsung SCH-i509
Android Ver: 2.3.6
Rooeted: Yes
Internal Memory: 160MB
Ext memory: 2GB microSD partitioned as: 1st Partition: 1455MB FAT, Second Partition: 515 EXT2 (I am using Link2SD for linking apps to SD card)
Superuser App: SuperSU
Rom Management: RomToolBox lite
I rooted my phone about a fortnight ago, first time rooting, things went fine, and apps were responsive.
2 days back I not only uninstalled the Google Play Store updates but also uninstalled the app, hoping I would install the latest google store APK from Android Police ( Ver: com.android.vending-4.8.22.apk )
I am new to rooting and installing apks, so after installing the above mentioned Google Play Store apk to the SD card and finding it was not responsive (I was getting a blank screen and an error message shortly thereafter which disappeared instantaneously for me to note what it said). I googled and found on a forum, (sorry don't recall which one) that the APK needs to be copied to the system/app folder and any previous apk of Google Play Store needs to be replaced. So using Root Browser in ROMToolBox I copied the apk to system/app.
Doing so did open the 'first run' of Google Play Store, as in I was prompted to allow permission via google account and opened the interface with my apps etc normally. But trouble started when I tried to update the apps. The moment I do that, I get the downloading bar AND then I get the force close screen. The same would happen in the case if I try to download any apps.
I froze the Google Play Store app through ROMToolBox App Manager.
On doing a search on XDA forums before I posted here I came across: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2129881
And did as suggested in this thread: went to the system/app folder through Root Browser and set permission to rw-r--r-- as suggested there.
UNFORTUNATELY things are the same as before: once the app fires up either by clicking on a Google Play Store linked ad or by just opening it, I am back to force close screen.
I would be really thankful if someone could help me out on this.
Also, I am not quite sure how much it makes a difference I was using Link2SD to link all user apps to SD card (I uninstalled this app as well hoping to install the latest version)
You rebooted after changing the apk permissions, right? Also perhaps try force stopping the plays store, wiping the app data then reboot.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I had rebooted and clear app data but the app was still unresponsive/
The issue resolved when I downloaded an older version of the Google Play Store app and installed it in the sys/app folder after removing the previous one, reconfigured the permissions and rebooted. things are working fine now.
Cheers, have a great weekend!
Hi all,
I have a Xiaolajiao LA2-S which is running Android 4.4.4 which is a Chinese phone that doesn't have the play store. I have managed to get it rooted and I have added the play store apk's as per some of the other posts. When I tried it out it wouldn't attempt to download apps at all. I noticed that the phone didn't have the download services installed, so i installed it into /system/app. Once i did this the apps tried to download but it failed with "Error downloading (insert app here) There is insufficient space on the device".
I was wondering if this was due to maybe a folder missing or incorrect permissions on a folder where the apps are temporarily downloaded to. The phone will install apps were the .apk file is copied to local storage so I was thinking that the standard location where the download services would copy the temporary files may be missing or have the wrong permissions. Can anyone provide me with any hints on what this might be?
Thanks in advance!
Oooh, that can be just about anything. I don't know about file permissions, but the typical cure for insufficient space errors is to clear the cache of the Play Store and Play Services. If you don't have Play Services installed, put that in /system/app too.
Beyond that, I can't help much. Make sure that you have a lot of space on your device. You need quite a bit of spare storage, not just how much is actually required for the app. It's like 5% of your total storage or something that has to be free.
Hello,
Yesterday I realized that I can no longer update nor install apps with OBB. The device is my son's Nexus 9 (flounder) with LineageOS 15.1 (latest weekly).
I tried to reset Play Store and Download Manager's data, I compared the attributes (ownership and permissions) of the OBB directory with those of another device with the same OS, and I verified that I can write in the OBB directory. Everything looks good but still Play Store is apparently unable to write to it: the OBB data is downloaded and, as soon as the download progress reaches 100% it jumps back to where it was when it started downloading the OBB data (say 10%) and it stays there. Play Store does not display any error message but no directory is created in /storage/emulated/obb and no data is copied.
Do you have any suggestions? A fresh install, after re-formatting /data, would very likely solve the problem, but I frankly don't think that my son would appreciated this solution, so any alternatives are appreciated!
Thanks!
