[Q] Android 1.6 (Donut) Notification Sounds - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a weird request, I hope someone here can help me.
I am looking for a specific notification sound (Can't remember its name) that used to be included in the stock image of Android 1.6 on HTC Magic. Can anyone help me get the extracted notifications from the original image?
Thank you
Shady

As now, nobody would be using Android 1.6 donut, its impossible to get the sounds from a working device.
The nearest things you could do is to download the android-sdk and download the Android 1.6 (API 4) SDK Platform, and you'll find an images folder inside the platforms folder and inside that you'll find the system.img
Extract that system.img using any img extraction tool like dsixda kitchen etc, and you'll be able to get its sounds and audio files I guess.

I have an HTC Dream that is still on 1.6 , once I get home I'll try to get it for you.

My mistake, my Dream is on 1.5 I think the default sound is called "Friendly"
I don't have it rooted so might take me a bit to get a copy of the sound files.

Hope this is it!

BIDI spport (aka Arabic, hebrew...)

Hi all,
I have been looking around for long time and trying different solutions to add Arabic (BIDI or RTL) support to my vibrant but with no luck.the only thing is just adding the font so instead of showing squares it shows the letters but disconnected and in reverse order.
Have any one been successful in porting the language support from the i9000 middle eastern rom? I tried but my phone will not boot and I don't know how to access the log at that stage to see why or what is missing.
Do we have a better built in support in froyo? Or it is the same?
I have seen many threads in many forums but most are not active for long time.
Any help will be appreciated.

I managed to make an arabic 2.1 rom. Everything works fine with exception of GPS. Just do not know how to create a flashable zip file for the rom to post it.

Can you provide us with that script or show where to get it from? maybe we can update it to work with the new rom.
There is an update rom running froyo 2.2 for Orange (I9000JHJP4) and has support for Arabic and hebrew, i tried to get some files from it to my 2.1 but did not work, i know i am missing more files that should be also integrated. that rom is for the international Galaxy S i9000 so it might not work with Vibrant
you can find the rom at samfirmware.com

I tested this patch without any changes and got the same error
I am trying to understand this java disassembled code to be able to fix it for the new ROM.
The patch already cover the full range of unicode characters for hebrew and arabic + other rtl languages.
Can anyone help me with generally understanding the disassembled code or provide links to some resources that can help?

Look at this thread, one guy is trying the same thing and he is getting the same error, and i think he got a work around in a hebrew site which i could not understand so you might find the solution to your problem there http://iandroid.co.il/forum/topic5657.html but for me I still need the Arabic character reshaping so RTL alone is not enough
And this is the link to the XDA thread where they discuss the same issues, and it seems that they are about to integrate the BIDI solution into the AOSP and CM

Stock Wallpapers

Hey guys,
I just got my Nook Color! I rooted it and flashed phiredrop 6.1 and the thing is now blaznig fast. However I'm missing the stock wallpapers. Can anyone tell me where to download them? Or perhaps someone can be so kind to upload them for me? I just want the white background with the N in the center

Could you tell me where to get them or give me a link to read more about nightlies? I've seen this term being tossed around but have tried in vain to find out what it means. A three day old nook owner

Copy that into the system app folder, change permissions to look like the other files there. Then reboot.

AOSP ouptut

Hi all. I have been through the AOSP website and built a basic rom, but I can't find it.
Sorry this is such a basic point - and related to another site - but can anyone point me to the output from the build process. I initiated the build with lunch and then used make to, er, make it, but can't find what I've made.
Thanks
Edit: am I right in thinking the output is a .zip file? If so, think it has failed because there's no .zip anywhere
not in your work folder? (the folder you were in while 'making' the rom) lol

No. I'm assuming it'll be in zip format, and there's nothing like that in the working folder.

If it compiled, you should be able to find it here:
WORKING_DIRECTORY/out/target/product/PRODUCT_NAME/ROM.zip

I couldn't find it there, so I'm assuming it didn't compile properly.
Thanks.

[Question] How do I edit a ROM??

Hi, i'm new to the ROM building/editing stuff. I've read a lot about building ROM's from scratch, but thats not what i'm interested in. I would like to know if, and if i can how, i can edit an existing rom for the Samsung Infuse 4g such as the stock rom and replace stock apps. I want to just edit some of the system/apps like the stock launcher, stock messaging app, etc and replace them with different ones that i already have downloaded. I don't want to edit any of the really deep/internal stuff just the stock applications that are loaded on the phone. Pretty much i want to theme it i guess you could say. Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction?? Thanks in advanced. I'm looking forward to working with custom ROM's.
bump. can anyone help a guy out??

How do you flash new rom on your samsung. Is it a .zip file and you flash it via cwm?

Assuming your file is a .zip file, you could just replace the applications you want (found in the "system/app" folder) on the zip, and sign it afterwards with a tool like AndroidSigner. It works for me
dsixda's kitchen
I haven't used this, but I have seen other ROM modders talk about this application called Kitchen (by dsixda). The link to the post is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
From the looks of it, it fits your bill.
you have Output the /system and do some work like change themes and other stuff and their is guys in Android Development and Hacking>Android Software Development
First off, thanks for all your replies, I appreciate getting some assistance. To answer most questions, yes I have the rom as a .zip file and flash it with cwm. I will try to replace the apps I want and then look into signing it ( which I don't know a whole lot about, but ill Google it.)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA
Yeah so the apps are in /system/apps/ You can replace them easily, but You have to set good permisions
