Whats your thoughts on upgrading? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was meant to upgrade last year, but held off to wait on the sgs4 (passed on the sgs3, stuck with my trusty sgs2). But was a little let down from what I've seen so far, from the photos it looks like a sgs3 (not a fan) but maybe in person it will be nice. So I tempted to jump ship for the htc one, started reading xda (As you do) and see posts saying the sgs4 might not get such great support from the usual suspects...that aint good.
So, if your reading this then you aint upgraded for similar reason no doubt...whats the plan? I mean, yeah I want those crazy specs, removable sd/battery...but stock roms and broken custom roms? Im seriously tempted on the htc one, however its a bit of a double edged sword, looks awesome, drop that **** and its ****ed. My sgs2 barely has a scratch.
Whats your thoughts sgs2 owners, Im still on ICS and not kept uptodate with the goings on here. I dont doubt there are awesome devs here, but if the major players dont take an intrest in the sgs4/exynos...its it doomed?

Do you wan't it just because you like to have last piece of tech and don't use even 5% of it..or you need it for better productivity in bussiness?
If first then i don't see a need for upgrade..

Dont get me wrong, I love gadgets, but i botched a screen replacement on my old hd2 (which is now my bros) so if I cant repair I will get a new one and give the sgs2 to my bro (sad to see the hd2 go tho). Anyway, Im more intrested on your thoughts if you were going to buy a new phone sgs4 or htc one? Like I said, Im not as into the whole modding thing as I used to (still like to flash custom roms tho), will the big guns not supporting the sgs4 make much diff? I would of thought so, but maybe there is talk on here?

Well i don't think i will get a new phone, but if it happenes it will definitely be either HTC One or Nexus 5..no need to give Samy money anymore..they have gone the Apple road

Yup, it seems they try to much and forget the core aspects. Just saw this, not sure how true...maybe the uk will get the qualcomm after alll (still not sure if that will make a difference with CM)
http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2013/03/samsung-galaxy-s4-quad-core-only-confirmed-for-the-uk/

What are the rest of your guys thoughts on the sgs4 vs htc one? I hate the thought of touchwiz for 18months, I would much rather vanilla android...but not sure about the htc one.

How about a nexus 4? I'm gonna check when Google i/o is. Should give a good idea of when the next nexus is out.

My S2 contract is up next month and before its release I always planned to upgrade to an S4, however since the S4 launch I have decided to go for the HTC One.
I think the S2 , especially with jelly bean is still a great device but I will pass it on to my son to replace his rubbish galaxy ace, the S3 I think will be Samsungs peak device, the S4 seems to be more of the same, meh, no real innovations on the hardware side but lots of new and gimmicky touchwizz features. I feel as already mentioned by an earlier poster, that this feels a little Apple like...... buy our phone because it's a Samsung and because lots of other people buy it..... rather than....buy it because it's a great phone...
There are, to varying degrees, innovations on BlackBerry z10 (The hub and gestures), Nokia Lumia 920 , (baked in funtionality, low light camera and the live tiles of WP8) and The HTC One (gorgeous design, Zoe, Blinkfeed, ultra pixel camera) all that interest me as an enthusiast/nerd that the S4 just doesn't seem to have.
The Z10 looks great but it's to early in its life for me to spend 2 years without so many essential apps that may or may not arrive on the device. Android has really matured with jelly bean and so for me it is the HTC One

Seriously S IV probably dosent need any custom ROM. It rocks as it is , stock. We on the S II need and want all this custom ROMs / kernels because we want that extra power and smoothness. No need to worry about developers not suporting it , in my opinion.
Now if you have money to spend buy the octo core one and be sure that at least two years you wont think about another upgrade.

if you are ok with your ver now, dont do it.

I'm of a similar opinion, S2 running well but if I can get a deal I'll upgrade. Torn between S4 and xperia Z. S2 was my first smart phone and I do like TW but I hear Sony is more developer friendly and I like the choice and freedom of flashing custom ROMs. Both phones will meet my performance requirements so will come down to cost eventually.

I would say buy nexus 4. But, if you like Sammy based roms, you can go with Samsung s4. Im using sammy rom on s2 and i would never again flash aosp/cm based roms only because of screwed drivers. Cudos to devs to what did they do but.. True project butter is still better. I would buy s4 only because i dont mind using sammy based roms, like neatrom lite. And snapdragon version of s4 might have better support because they push their sources out i think. Wait until May to see nexus 5, then decide.

Go with s4, xperia z has really low specs for that kind of device. And not that good display, its like washed out, also UI is not smooth, it stutters a lot. Better buy nexus 4 instead of xperia z.

Shamesung: no way. Not again... Sony, Moto xphone, nexus... Or apple. Will see what is the best for me in the following months.

Decisions decisions, next nexus also deserves serious consideration. Just not a fan of the black and white Google stock look.

You mean black and blue. you can flash or apply themes to make it like sammy for example. Thats why nexus is great. If i find great opportunity to buy n4 till May, i will, and if not, ill wait to see what nexus 5 will have. But right now, from devices on market, i would choose between nexus4 and s4. Htc one is good too, but that huge speaker grills on front? I mean come in, like some kid played with design. Also i saw 1080p video sample on youtube. It stutters like hell. Sure, it has great audio and its the best in low light capturing, but.. i personally dont need phone to shoot at night or in the dark. so, its s4 or nexus4.

I agree, I'll probably sign up for a 30 day sim only rolling contract and run my S2 until prices stabilise and all phones are released and fully reviewed.

I haven't made my mind up yet but it's going to be a toss up between the Xperia Z, BB Z10, HTC One or the next Nexus 5.
Specs and power are a consideration but....
Xperia Z because I miss reading a book in the bath! Possible development support and good noises coming from Sony but the same could be said for Samsung a few years back.
BB Z10 as the OS intrigues me.
HTC One for its beautiful design, BOM and form factor.
Nexus 5 for the custom appeal and all round Googleness. Strayed from the Nexus line with the S2 so might go back.
Not considering the S4 at the moment as it looks more like a S3 upgrade than revolution. Samsung played it safe, almost using the Apple model of next model releases and I don't like the end result. To paraphrase a song, "here is the new phone, same as the old phone".
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium

Even the best phone is only the best for 6 to 9 months before its superseded. I am even starting to consider the S3 as it's price is bound to drop once S4 arrives.

The SII is still attractive and running well - I went away from stock rom to CM10.1 latest nightlies. It is running perfectly and has now an up to date Android OS - Good value for the money I think

[Q] Galaxy Nexus To The Note?

I've gone from the Dell Streak -> Galaxy Nexus and am now considering going back to a 5"+ screen.
Does anyone have any insight regarding this change? I really love ICS, which is why I'm hesitant to switch, but I miss all that extra screen real estate! Perhaps I'm better served waiting a few more months until devs get their hands on an official Note build of ICS. Thanks for any help you guys can give.
I have both! Ics is way better than gingerbread. But the note is a phenomenal device! There's no other device like it! Ics is supposed to be release for the note but I don't know when exactly.

Basically the same situation I'm in. I had a Nexus S with factory ICS.
I'm basically giving them to the end of March to get ICS out (Not from ATT, I realize that won't happen, but a leak from Samsung or CM9 or something). If they don't, I'll probably trade/sell for a Galaxy Nexus, even though I like the Note's hardware more.

There's literally no aspect of the OS I can think of that wasn't drastically improved in ICS. Literally everything is better. One great example is the absolutely insane way they want you to mount as SD card in GB.
Unplug cable, go to menu > Wireless and networks > USB settings, press connect, plug cable in, Press connect again.
Seriously?
I miss my AOKP on my galaxy nexus I had on verizon, but with the deal I got I couldn't pass up the note. (they accidentally put me on a dumbphone ETF with Verizon and AT&T gave me all 3 of my family plan phones for %50, so the note was only $150) However much I enjoy my note, I miss ICS and the fluidity AOKP brought that android version. I cant wait for a CM9/AOKP/AXIOM/anything ICS Rom.
One of the reasons I like the Nexus is because I can use my T-mobile or my Red Pocket sim. I have the $30 plan with T-mobile and $60 Red Pocket plan...I love my Note..Wish I could have both..

Disagree completely. I just traded my Galaxy Nexus for a Note and couldn't be happier. ICS is great, but still has plenty of kinks to work out. Add to that lots of software needs to be updated and GB on the Note isn't so bad.

Couldn't agree more.
I too came from a device where I was running ICS and have absolutely zero complaints/difficulty reverting back to GB because the trade off is a much better device.
In the end, we're really debating a subjective issue so there's no true right or wrong, but one thing's for sure: If you're going from ICS back to GB, the device itself had better make up the difference in terms of user experience, and the Note's clearly got the goods to bridge this gap. Also, it's only a matter of time before the devs cook up some ICS ROMs that make this discussion moot anyway.

The biggest matter is not the software on this phone, but the physical attributes. After over a week with note, I just cannot get used to the size. Sure, the screen is beautifully massive and makes the Galaxy Nexus look like an iPhone but the Note is just uncomfortable for one handed use (im 6'1" and I CAN use it one handed no problem, its just uncomfortable). My main factors for going back to the Galaxy Nexus were getting my unlimited 4g LTE data plan back (for the fiance too) comfort-ability, and better reception (I literally live across the street from a Verizon tower getting 15-32mpbs download where as the Note on AT&T 4G LTE im at the very edge getting 2mpbs down on a tiered 3GB plan). Ill still certainly be jealous when ICS ROMs come out for the note, but for now ill just stick with AOKP and a spare battery with charger lol.

I hear that, and I said somewhere else on this forum that I love the Note "in spite" of its awkwardness and the funny looks/snide comments I get regarding its size, similar to what an owner of a Great Dane probably deals with each time he/she takes it for a walk down the street. lol
For me, it's just that the functionality of the device is so over the top awesome (based on my prior Android experience) that even the clear unweildiness of the device (is that a word!?!) can't scare me away.
But again, to each their own.
I just left the AT&T store with my new Note. I had the Nexus on Verizon. I love ICS, but the note is a really nice device, and I'm enjoying the speed increase on HSPA+ compared to Verizon 3B.C.
I plan on buying a GSM Nexus to have as a backup to my Note.

[Q] What phone will be best for me ?

Hi, I'm now using iPhone 4 and i looked over android, i cant see now how i used iOS!?
now i looked for the best phone for me, and i chose gNexus, i liked the clear android over Sense and much over touchwiz! , i tried to get one and it didn't worked out (i want to buy my next phone in USA, i live in Israel and in USA its much(!) cheaper!)
so my sis going to NY in the next month, and that is my opportunity to get new phone. but then i realized the nexus has poor hardware, and im not sure is gonna last 2 years as main phone !
I'm considering the S3 which is beast in hardware , but going to be beast so its not going to be unique and that something i really want after iphone 4! another thing is that its not nexus, and the updates will come late! pros are battery , quad core , giant screen , 50g at dropbox)
another phone I'm thinking of is the One X, This phone is awesome!! its beautiful! Sense is beautiful!, its also a beast in hardware! but that's the end,
i heard that the battery is poor, its still heavy because the sense 4, the video frame rate is poor, and i even heard on poor performance on NOVA . so it turned me off..
im sorry for the long thread, but my next phone, and my first android phone is very important for me, its going to be my phone for the next 2 years.
Thank you very much XDA (BTW , i searched allot about every phone, but what i need here is personal experience , something that not always objective).
I would recommend checking out HTC. They have very productive, useful devices.

the one x looks awesome but he got so many flaws and bad disappointments! ): if i wasnt reading so much little bad things about him i was sure he is the one for me but no , there is to many little flaws!
Look up the HTC Inspire. I heard its the best there is.

looks lame !
its look old and weak !
another suggestions?
So right now there's 3 phones you have your eyes on, but still open to suggestions.
I would suggest the Galaxy S III if you are looking for a phone for two years.
Galaxy Nexus is a very wonderful phone. Best selling point would be that its fast to get updates, but hardware is already dated since its been released over half a year ago.
HTC One X is beautiful, but that's all. Its beautiful, but doesn't really have any other features that would put it above the Galaxy S III. I see the One X as a device that's an improvement over the Galaxy Nexus in terms of speed and power, but nothing spectacular.
Galaxy S III on the other hand is comparable to the One X in terms of speed and most likely surpassing it in that field too. Beyond that, there are many other features that are equal to the One X and has quite a few features that the One X does not have.
I vote for the S III mainly because it offers more in terms of hardware and software.
I think Samsung Galaxy SIII or Nexus. Or wait for HTC One XXL.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
Varience,
thanks for your helpful comment! you summarized the subject pretty good , i think i choose the SIII over the others, because he is the combination between good hardware and allot of Roms (im sure he will get allot of roms).
to ServeTT the HTC One XXL sound really good on paper !!! (but so do the one x)
when will he come out ?
the phone i really want, is the next nexus, all the benefits of the current awesome nexus plus hardware that last 2 years and not one thats already is old
I am quite against buying HTC devices. They don't support our development community and sense is hideous and slow. The only thing I like is their build quality ..
I would get a Samsung galaxy s3, touchwiz 5 jellybean and ics actually looks pretty good!. There buold quality is better for the s3, Plus Sammy supports our development
But over all I love the galaxy nexus phones the best cause they look so good and are pure . But maybe wait for the new nexus to come out, it will be the best phone in hardware and software. And will get all updates.

HTC One X - OUT - by reading, its beautiful and thats it, its close, and not as good as others..
S3 or the next Nexus , That is the question!
When the next nexus predicted to be released ?
if more than month (that is almost sure thing),
i think it will be the S3, its the strongest hardware, and its development community have to be great!, thanks you all !

What made you pick the S3 over the competition?

Hey guys/gals,
I'm literally counting the days til my upgrade, however with phones like the One X and a few others which i can't think of off the top of my head. Rather than asking VS. questions which will be answered by biased views or perhaps answers which don't answer the why i'll ask it like this.
What was the feature that made you buy the phone over the other phones on the market, what is your favourite feature which made the phone a defo puchase?
Thanks to all that answer this for me.
Mainly the processor, big ass screen and clearly the brand Samsung. HTC are good but from past experience I know that what they seem to offer is not always what they actually have to offer. Other phones are just out of the question, like nokia pure view since I would rather buy a camera than buy that phone (though I already have a DSLR so I don't need one). And to be honest I normally pick phones right away and then find everything there is to know about them. I just told myself that now is the time and this is the phone I want to buy.

- Huge community with lots of ROM's and customizations
- Large AMOLED screen (only had good experiences so far)
- Cool addon features such as Smart Stay
- Perfect USB OTG support
- Large battery
- Samsung-branded. (No issue with their devices so far)
- Powerful 4core SoC
Thanks for the input so far guys, its not a case I'm doubting the s3 but I'll probably get lumbered with a 24month contract and I don't want to miss out on another phone due to blindly buying the s3

If I had a Galaxy Nexus as your signature suggests I would have skipped the S3, I don't think the incremental benefits merit a 24 month tie in. Or you could upgrade now and when the next gen handsets are released your S3 and GN should raise enough to buy whatever tickles your fancy.
For me it was the SD card slot and removable battery. Also I was concerned about all of the screen scratch talk with the one X.
On AT&T, the One X looks to be the better performer but couldn't get past the issues above.

Because the One X is inexcuseably flawed with the lack of replaceable battery and memory slot and traditionally rubbish battery life, and even though the S3 is also flawed most of it is just software problems that can be bodged up after the fact.
SIII doesn't have any serious competition imho. It is the best phone in the market at the moment hands down. If only my other decisions in life are that easy

I totally agree. Especially the fact that the nexus is about to get jelly bean, it's gonna be a brand new phone. Yes the S3 is the best phone out right now ( in my opinion) but the nexus is also fantastic and I miss that phone sometimes.

To be honest I believe that there soon won't be a device (including Samsung) that will be let's say 2 or 3 times faster, better, etc. that the SIII. Quad core processors came out now so next year probably they will continue to distribute them. Plus custom roms or the SIII will get better, these guys at xda do a better job than any company out there, they are users that make upgrades for users and know what we exactly need. Software is never an issue it can always be upgraded, modified unlike hardware that is something that is hard to replace in a phone. So when I look for a phone I mainly look at the hardware, for the hidden potential of the phone. And to be honest Samsung SIII is the fastest phone currently on the market and we all know well that it has the most juice in it.

The Nexus always gets the latest OS first but as soon as the Galaxy S's get upgraded you just get stuck with a phone that's always worse than the equivalent Galaxy S, and I'd never buy a phone just to get an OS a few months early because I'd quickly realise the mistake I made.

+1. If you have a Nexus already, I agree that it will feel like a new phone with JellyBean on it.
I am still getting the S3 though. I will be new to Android so will have a bit of learning to do, and JellyBean is supposed to be coming to the S3 in Q4, so by then I'll be ready for it and I think it will make the S3 super-super-swishy (from the mere super-swishy it is now).
For me, replaceable batteries & memory cards are a must, so that basically blew many other phones out of the picture. Good camera, USB OTG, MHL-ing to use it as a games console, proper HD screen, good battery - all of these things sold it too me.
No iThings for me. I don't want to get tied into any restrictive iContract with iEULA, not shackled to iTunes, titchy screen, etc etc.
I was happy with my Windows HTC HD2 (before I bricked it). Hoping buying a Samsung flagship model on Android (with the massive user group that's gathering behind it and seemingly fast updates OTA from Sammy) will mean this phone will function well out of the box, and function amazeballs with a few custom tweaks & mods.
Hopefully I will get my UK blue this week :cyclops::victory:
Screen size and speed
Already running Jellybean, but like people have said you can change Software you can't change hardware and one thing i do miss is the S2 camera I had, so the Samera on the S3 is one of my big reasons.

What competition?
My last phone was an HTC Desire, and since I was displeased with the HTC Sense UI, I just decided that my next phone would be a Samsung. And the S III just happened to be the best phone out there.
hox has too weak battery in my case, so its a no-competition thing actually
next close to perfect phone is still good old i9000
The hype about it - I figured that with all the talk there would be loads of custom roms developed for the phone. I signed up for a two year contract and I wanted a phone that could last two years which this should do well with that processor. Had a Nexus S before and considered buying a Galaxy Nexus, but 16GB internal and no option for external SD just didn't appeal to me.

Is the GS3 still a good deal?

Hi.
I am considering on getting a new phone and one of the hottest options for me is the Galaxy S3.
I currently have an Iphone 4s (Yeah, I regret buying that piece of crap every second of my life) but I've had Android phones earlier too, most noticeably the Samsung Galaxy S2.
Originally I want the Nexus 4, but I can't find any with a good price in my country (they all cost like €400 or so) and buying form the Internet isn't an option because no one delivers online stuff here in this terrible country.
So, I found some SGS3 that cost around €300 and I think the price is OK. I can afford that, but I'd like to ask some questions to the users on XDA before purchasing it.
Since I've used Android before, I know almost everything about it (the stuff like rooting, custom Rom's, and custom recoveries. ODIN and so on) I\d like to know if the S3 is still a good phone. I mean does it still perform well. Im worried about this a bit because my GS2 was a good phone but it was laggy and tended to heat a lot when using it a lot or during high-graphic games.
Is the 1.4 GhZ quad core chip still a good processor that can handle perfectly most of the daily routine stuff.
BTW, I intend on putting stock Android of some form, like CM10.1 or AOKP or PA, on it because I hate TouchWiz.
Would you guys still suggest the Samsung Galaxy S3 even after more than a year since it's release?
if u want cm10 or any aosp Rom dont think of GS3 because of closed drivers the camera is still crap on cm10.1 because of that reason
so ur only option would be living with a themed touchwiz and removed blotware otherwise find your self another phone
dont go for s3
buy any htc or a sony device that u can afford.

How about nexus 4 ?

S3 always gave me good performance. i would recommend the same. you have many custom roms other than touchwiz that work perfectly as the stock f/w's. i feel so sad about the people using this phone supporting other brands.
Yeah as mentioned, if you want AOSP, go for something qualcomm based.
Camera IMHO is pretty good if you use the aosp camera mod from xda. Just poor in low light but sammy camera isn't much better in low light anyway

Get it
It's a good phone in general, but on stock the RAM and CPU shows it's age. It's not exceptional in the graphics department, same GPU as S2
And the battery is kind of short compared to, say, the note II.
Ok, I see your point. It was probably the same thing about the drivers with the Galaxy S2. Always had problems in custom ROM's with the camera and the sound in some ways.
Like I feared, the S3 might be a bit better than the S2 in performance because of the better processor but since it has the same GPU and same amount of RAM, it shouldn't much different overall.
As I said, I want the Nexus 4 but it's hard to find it here in my country for an acceptable price (even then it's still not easy finding one).
Since some of you suggested HTC or Sony, what do you guys think about the One X? I can also find the HTC One X for around €300 which is OK imo.
But one of my friend has it, and he has problems with the Wifi a lot. The reception is very low, and sometimes his phone just won't start, or at times it wont play any kind of media, like music and videos and so on. That's why Im worried about the HTC One X. As for the Sony alternative, they do not have any good phones besides the new Xperia Z and upwards IMO.
I guess I will wait and see if I can find a Nexus4 for a month or so, but I really, REALLY want to move away as far as possible from the Iphone and get back ASAP to Android. At the end of the day, I think I will still be better with a Custom Rom based on Touchwiz than iOS.
May god help me.
i9300 is so much more comfortable to hold than the i9100, a huge improvement there. Right now I would buy the HTC One, but it's expensive
Oh well, I just bought a new sgs3 from my carrier subsidized and it's the best phone I could've bought for the money.
I'm coming from an abused HTC Desire so the upgrade is huge.
Still on stock rom so I'm experiencing some lag when pushing the phone a bit. Will probably root/custom rom in the near future.
Was aiming for the HTC One X + but couldn't find it anymore for sale.
Had my s3 for a year now and i love it. Its big screen is much better for me than iPhone 4s which my partner uses.

Yes, it's still a good deal to buy it and it's still has support from Samsung, so it's means that it's will get latest updates.:good:

anyone coming from the s3? Need your thoughts please

ok, i have had HTC phones in the past, however, got an s3 about a year ago and i love it. one of the reasons i left HTC was i was tired of not getting updates in a timely manner (or at all) and the lack of dev support when compared to the GS3 (i am a flash-o-holic). but i am very interested in the ONE.
Anyone that has come over from an s3, i would love to hear what you like or dont about the phone as i am trying to make a decision in the next day or so (one or the s4). The S4 does look great, but its SO close to the s3 in terms of look and general use that i dont knwo if i would really fee like i am getting a new phone.
Thanks!
I came from att and the gs3 and I love this phone. In terms of design and how the phone feels in the hand, there is absolutely no comparison. The phone is definitely snappier and sense 5 is significantly less intrusive then touchwiz. The display is amazing but it does seem smaller then just .1inch(4.7 vs 4.8). I also get much better battery life on the ONE then I did on my gs3. I was in your boat and I debated between the s4 and ONE and I'm glad I made this choice. In the end it is definitely personal preference though.

I had the S3 before my Nexus 4 and now I have the One.
The One blows the S3 away in every aspect IMO, and I loved the S3. I mean loved it. But the One is my favorite phone EVER, hands down.
I also had an SIII. I went from SIII to the HTC One. However I jumped ship to the Sony Xperia Z. I did have the SIV for sometime but the Xperia Z is really something. It's has been an understatement phone because the HTC One and SIV steal the spotlight but really the Xperia Z us probably far the best to use. All the connectivity things and it has its own BlinkFeed styled app. It's really great.
Try the Xperia Z and the HTC One and see for yourself. The One us a great device but the Sony just has that little something over it

Flaps for every port? No thanks. I don't need the extra hassle of things that break in a matter of months just to take my phone swimming.
The Xperia Z is definitely a nice phone, but I don't care for the design.
I currently have both the S3 and the One. I use both daily with the S3 being a work phone and the One being my personal phone. It really isn't fair to compare the S3 to the One though. For my use, the One is superior in every way. Battery, smoothness, speed, display, form factor...
I must admit that I am an HTC fan boy coming from a G1, G2, Evo, Amaze, and One S. I did have an S2 for a period before I gave it to my brother and thought it was brilliant at the time though so maybe not completely bias.
Seriously though, when the S3 was announced, I was walking around claiming it as my next device. I was sold. When I went to get one, I couldn't do it. I thought it felt cheap and worth maybe $200. I wandered around and decided I would rather have the One S. It just seemed like a better device. My work then decided to change networks and give us our choice of an S3 or an IPhone. I obviously went with android but quickly found out I had made the right choice with skipping the S3 at launch.
I never felt like the S3 was a better phone than the One S even though it should have been. The screen size was better but I always felt like the One S looked better. I also saw no significant difference in speed. The S3 was better at multi tasking but everyday lags and stutter were no different. They just seemed to be on par with each other. Once I picked up the One, I realized what crap I had been using. The One is just on another level. Compare it to the S4 but comparing with S3 is just being mean.

Thanks for all the input and suggestions. I really appreciate it. However maybe I didn't state my intent well enough.
I am not trying to compare to an s3. That is my most current phone (had the one s before that) I am considering this over the gs4. I know both those blow the s3 out of the water but that's the phone I am leaving.
As for the Xperia I am definitely interested but don't think the dimensions would work. And from what I have seen the ui is just ok. But I will definitely mess with it when I can. Maybe it will be the one after this (every 6 months!!)

I 1000% agree with you on the build quality. Although i have not had a SINGLE issue with any samsung phone i have had, but for me, build quality is a second priority honestly cause the first thing i do with a new phone is get a good case and screen protector so really all that cool metal doesn't mean a damn thing.

Sony doesn't need any protection. But they do give you two InvisiSheild protectors for front and back. Just for the people who are a but scared. HTC One scratches easily... Even in the Offical Double Dip case...
The Xperia Z with the Honami ROM is very great and you should consider it when you go to buy your phone

Just giving an opinion... Jesus man... There's basically 3 decent phones on the market (SIV, Xperia Z and HTC One). May aswell look at them all...
I was in the same situation (coming from an SIII) and I'm just giving my opinion just like the rest of the people here. Stop crying if I mention the Xperia Z...

Nobody's crying. You already mentioned it, and how it's better than the One, and when nobody paid you any attention you made another post about it.
This is the One forum, and someone was asking for experience using the ONE coming from the S3. Your posts do not apply to that topic. You're continuing to post about a phone you're dev'ing for that no one asked about.
Bye.

I'm not sure if your reading this correctly... He asked about the One or SIV. I recommended an Xperia and the OP acknowledged it as well. He was talking about cases for when he gets a new phone so I just put a little doubt out of his mind with the Z.
If you have a problem you can leave or just ignore what I'm saying, just like how I ignored you when you were saying how you don't care about the design when I wasn't asking for your opinion... In fact, I was talking to the OP so please, be quiet if no one was talking to you at first.

Ok, fair enough. My apologies but it still appeared to be trolling IMO
Just to be fair, since you want to compare the One and the Z:
http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/htc-one-vs-xperia-z
And all three
http://www.wired.co.uk/reviews/mobile-phones/2013-06/superphones
As much as I love my One, the S3 is still a fantastic phone which could have kept me happy for another year. The only thing that pushed me to upgrade is my wife's phone was dying and she gets my hand-me-downs.
I'm perfectly happy with my HTC One, but if you have a perfectly good S3 you could probably hold out a few more months and see if new Nexus or Note 3 comes out.

Can't wait to make the jump in a couple weeks. Just messing with a friend's HTC One for 5-10 minutes I was sold on its build quality, and the Dev community (it being internationally flashable) is awesome. Only see positives for this phone in all aspects. So glad to be moving from plastic to QUALITY. I've yet to get a compliment that my s3 looks nice, and the HTC One gets nothing but positive looks.

DAMN... and now google has to schedule something for the 24th!!!!! i woud expect android 4.3 but hopefully it wont be the nexus 5 (cause that should ship with KLP i would hope) but good thing TMO in CA has a 30 day return policy!! going to the store hopefully today to make my choice.

Biggest minus for me is the button layout change and missing of menu button. That's a HUGE minus for me. Guess you don't know what's missing till you lost it. But S3 had the sudden death syndrome so it makes no sense for me to dive into S4 when I just got screwed over by S3...
The dilemmas...
