Hi. Got a strange sound problem on my S3. Have Omega Rom installed XXEMB5 v 43.1 and J-Kay 14.92.9. Stock Kernel After some time my phone does not have any sound. If i try to play a sound withsound player it says that it is not supported. Cannot play any Youtube video, no ringtone or notification sound. If I reboot the phone everything works normal again for some time until the problem is there again. Tried to reset to factory, wiped and reformatted the internal and external memory card and reinstalled Rom and Jkay. Anyone knows about this problem or have a solution?
Jorgen

is it in the external sd card ? then try renaming the folder anything other than the word 'music'. it seemed to have worked for most folks.
Or get Poweramp it works and its very good too.
hey man..thanks..i have poweramp..just want to try the miui music app will try your suggestion
when I had MIUI, it didn't scan sd card media files by default like it does on other ROMs. shame, because I liked MIUI otherwise.
miui music player
the first time i put some music in my sd card it could find them but the next time... no..
no matter where u copy them...
any solution?
Found this thread researching the same issue. Go to settings > filter by folder, and make sure they are checked.
this fixed it for me
I've tried MIUI several times (different builds), and I've always had this problem. Just on a hunch, I tried something today that fixed it for me. Might work for you too.
1. Installed ROM Manager. Chose reboot into recovery mode.
2. In recovery mode I first fixed permissions. Then I wiped Dalvik cache (I suspect this didn't really do anything, but I did it, so I include it). Then I went into the mount menu and mounted sd card (it said unmounted before).
3. Reboot
4. Watched the music player starting to count up all the missing music.
Hi,
ICS runs fine on my S2 (I´m on LPF right now, very stable ROM), but one thing annoys me a lot: ICS keeps changing my standard ringtone and notification by itself... it somehow seems to be connected to connecting the phone via USB in MTP or storage mode. Other users have the same problem so it´s not a phone issue, but rather ISC. Had the sam problem with a custom rom (Clean Blank Rom) so i guess it´s a core ICS problem. Tied anything, from putting the ringtones to the injternal SD or system/media and tried converting the ringtones from Mp3 to OGG ... still it changes occasionally.
Any hints on how to get to the base of this problem and solve it?
Thanks,
Kusie
P.S.: always do a full wipe before flashing a new ROM, so this is no cache issue

I was running on different ICS ROM version (all stock), but never had this issue.
ATM, I am on XWLPD and using mp3 files as standard ringtone and notification sound.
Maybe it is caused by a combination of different things, so that this issue does not affect all ICS users.

Most probably, yes... maybe it´s connected to a certain app that is causing this problem... yesterday evening I moved my current custom ringtones and notifications to /system/media/audio and deleted all other ringtones/notifications/alarms from the internal and external SD cards just to check. Did a reboot, changed the rintone and notification to my custom ones and charged the phone over night ... this morning I unplugged it from loader and checked my audio settings and:
ringtone: unknown ringtone (dammit!)
notification: Moonbeam (bummer! not my selected custom notification)
This is driving me crazy.
I´m thinking about going to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache - as this is recommended often in the custom Rom section AFTER installing a new rom to avoid troubles - only question is: will this result in any data or app loss?
EDIT: Ok I think I found the culprit: i seems my volume sceduler "Volume Ace" caused the change of ringtone and notify every time it switched to a different audio profile. Deinstalled it and all seems fine....
Greets,
Kusie
I have a problem with playing video files (movies about 700mb) (.avi, .mkv) on my galaxy s2. The video files on the device do not appear in the gallery, when I open them using a file explorer the video starts with a black screen and wierd (distorted) sounds. Some files won't open at all. I am running Rexurrection remix v3.1.1 and the problem started when I first flashed v3.8. So I dual booted to check if its the ROM.
I'm running MIUI-2.10.19 as secondary, but the problem still persists on both the ROMs. However, videos shot on camera and received through whatsapp play flawlessly. Putting the files on external sd or internal storage doesnt seem to make a difference. I've tried installing third party apps too but in vain.
I'm a newbie and tried to solve the problem reading solutions from other threads. But none seems to work.
Please suggest a solution.

Have about using 3rd party app like MX Player? You can search that on playstore..a good one.
last week i've swapped my gf's sdcard to format her data and put mine back in my phone
After that, i couldn't find media in the stock app like gallery or music (gallery, google play and AOSP music app)
but i can access that media via external app like QuickPic or PowerAmp
have tried these methods but that's NOT help solving my issue
- flash Stock ICS Rom via ODIN and flash the ROM over it. (stock music player can see my music too, but I didn't notice if the stock gallery could see my photos)
- format /system before install the ROM
- tried the mediaReScan app from the Play Store
- tried install CM10/AOKP ROM but the problem is still there
- any methods i could get from google
anyone facing issue like me? and if you have solved it, How??
for others who doesn't face this issue, do you have any advice for me? thanks
P.S. i'm on SlimBean 3.1 with Siyah Kernel
still waiting for the solution
Hard to find an answer, because you tried everything I would have done as well.
Did you try to fix permissions in recovery?
Wipe cache and dalvik?
My GS3 can't seem to play any video of any format using the stock video player or any 3rd party video player app using hardware mode. Software mode works but it isn't really the solution i'm looking for.
I'm at my wits end. I tried everything, including a factory reset to no avail.
I'm running stock rom on my GT-i9300 flashed with the latest vesrion of Siyah kernel. I also did some tweaking using Ext Tweak to overclock and changed the I/O scheduler to cfq. I did these same tweaks on my old GS2 before with no problems so i'm not sure if this was the cause. I did change all the settings back to default but the problem persists.
I really need advise. Thanks.
Friend of mine had the same problem. It helped to delete the cache/data of the video programs/wipe the cache via cwm and do a clean up with sd maid. Maybe this way could help you too, but withou guarantee.
