Hey I´m at the same Problem. Can you connect your Phone to your PC?
Then search for a RUU for your Device... and run it... I have the hope that this works at mine htc but the battery is lower then 30% and i have no idea why it doesnt charge... maybe yours is over that...

I plugged it in and yes, it charged! but I am gonna try the RUU now, ill tell you the results, really never encountered this before ;(

May I ask why you want to relock your bootloader?
If your phone is not charging, it's probably because your Recovery is not the latest to date.
@muhhh351
You should flash a Recovery known working on charging mode, the first releases were lacking this mode, but this is resolved now. Click on Frequently Asked Questions in my signature everything is there for you to find about HOX+ and their recoveries.

TWRP is more complete and a rigourously tested recovery. CWM was modded to work on the HOX+.
First make sure your SDK tool (adb) is correctly installed and also the HTC's drivers. (There is a link for a tutorial in my signature.)
Download the correspondent recovery for your phone International OR AT&T/Telus (N.B. Links are available in the Sticky FAQ)
Flash the Recovery.
Clear Cache
Reboot in Recovery
Install your correspondent version of any ROM.zip you want that is already on your storage. (Otherwise,Sideload a ROM to be able to flash one inRecovery)
Flash the boot.img of your desired ROM
Clear Cache Again
Reboot
Should work

I tried to be polite (anyway I am not allowed to talk like that, I never developed any sort of app, neither a ROM or kernel so I am not very qualified to judge others work), I'm sure you understood what I meant.
And yes I agree everything is way more complicated and unstable with CWM.

Please help. I'm having same problem. I can get into bootloader and fastboot and even successfully installed recovery but I can't get into recovery bc I always go to that white htc screen and no idea what to do next. Please please help me. I am on 1.15 software and 1.32 hboot and 4.1.1 Android version

Reboot your phone in Bootloader mode (fastboot) you should have this 4 choices :
HBOOT
REBOOT
REBOOT BOOTLOADER
POWER DOWN
leave HBOOT highlighted then press the power button once, a new menu will appear :
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
SHOW BARCODE
IMAGE CRC
From there with the Volume control (up & down) simply select RECOVERY and press Power button one time, your phone should Reboot in Recovery mode.
When in Recovery mode the VERY FIRST thing you will do, is a complete backup of your actual ROM and you will keep it as long as you gonna own the phone, so put this backup in a safe place on your computer and make sure to never delete it.

Thank you but the thing is.. I put twrp on it and version 2.3.3.0 and it won't boot in it. Any ideas why? Then I looked for a more recent recovery and I wasn't sure if this is evita?? So, basically I'm still unable to get into recovery and it goes to that htc white screen.
Btw. Your instructions are excellent

Yes and I use windows 7 and open my command prompt within platform tools. My drivers say MY HTC. Yes. Ty

OK I will give you a trick...
Navigate to platform-tools of your SDK folder.
Right click and create a New text document
In the new text paste this : c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
Save it with this name : StartADB.bat (important to save it with .bat extension and overwrite the warning)
Now right click again on your new bat file, and create a shortcut to your desktop.
Now try to adb devices your phone via your new desktop shortcut.
Type this command with your phone plugged : adb devices
You should have your serial in return

OK I am doing that. Please give me a few MIN. Ty

The best experience will be to flash Romracer's recovery through fastboot. If you are unlocked and follow the instructions, you should not have a problem.

Taken from tayshun12's great guide here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423 .
My suggestion is in red. If you are already correcting the name then sorry and good luck.
Proper Recovery:
1. After your bootloader unlocked go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
2. Scroll down to where it says "ALL USERS" and download your favourite colour. (NOT THE ZIP VERSION) Rename the file to recovery-atrix5.img instead of recovery-some-color-atrix5Place it in the motounlock folder that you have on your desktop.
3. Press the windows key + R on your computer, type cmd and press enter
4. A Command prompt will open. type cd C:\users\YOURNAME\desktop\motounlock press 'enter'
5. type "fastboot devices" Press Enter.
5b. type "fastboot erase recovery" Press Enter.
5c. type "fastboot flash recovery recovery-atrix5.img" Press Enter. Be certain that you have renamed the file to recovery-atrix5.img instead of recovery-some-color-atrix5
Wait for the command prompt to say : "writing 'recovery'... OKAY ['The amount of seconds it took here']"
5d.type "fastboot reboot"
DO NOT FORGET TO DO THIS PART: After the install of RomRacers recovery boot up your phone. Open up your favourite file browser (I used Astro file manager to do this ) and navigate to /system/etc/ and delete the file called 'install-recovery.sh'
You will be set 100% !

problem flashing recovery
I had a similar problem flashing recovery with fastboot method. It would flash the recovery successfully in seconds, but it would not load recovery properly. It didn't matter if i tried to enter it from key combination or Rom Manager the phone would just load the recovery image and not the recovery options.
I was somewhat successful with the procedure found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423 sticky by Tayshun12. flashed latest clockwork mod touch recovery 5.8.1.8 by following procedure at the end of the first post. Delete install-recovery.sh from both locations,(don't forget to backup file first) it is the same file in both locations. Install Rom Manager from Google play after removing files. Flashed touch recovery with the option in rom manager (paid versions of rom manager and touch through play store) after that the recovery works perfectly. I didn't mind having to pay for them to work properly. Good luck, pm me if you need to and I will try to help.

It should have taken only seconds to install. In the command you have to type the name of the recovery your installing. I personally use touch recovery on the atrix. But you have to check the name of the file, it has to be the same name as your command. I suggest you read the instructions carefully again, there should not be any problems.

I just flashed it and it seems to work perfectly! Thank you Kraizk AND ofcourse Lloir!
One thing though, might be that the partitions are wrong.. then again, I might be wrong! But it can't seem to find the old backups that were made with CWM non-touch version and, after rebooting back to system I can't seem to find the backup that I have just made.. It's not on sdcard/0/clockworkmod/backup (the 0 because I'm on AOKP 4.2.1), so am I looking in the wrong folder right now or dafuq? XD
Anyway, thanks for the work you've put into it! Looking great!
Edit: Nevermind, found the new place where the backups are made, it's simply /sdcard/clockworkmod and not into the /0/ file where AOKP 4.2.1 pushed my old backups into!
Great I have been waiting for a touch version of this. Will try when I get home!
I flashed it and it seemed to go fine until I enter recovery. Recovery crashes as soon as it starts up.
I tried to flash the old CWM I had using the all-in-one tool but when I go into recovery again after that, it's telling me that it can't read the logs and crashes shortly after. Yes, I am using the International HOX+. If its a simple solution, I would love to know.

Just flashed and so far this is working perfectly for me! Would like to test off mode charging to see if it has same bug were when it finishes charging it turns the phone on - currently has this in the on touch version so assume it to be the case here.
Thanks very much for this!
Edit: one very small point worth noting is I created a .one_confrim file and it works on all options bar the wipe data/factory reset menu. In this there are so many no's the you have to scroll up to find the go back option.
In the touch version would it be possible to code it so there is only one no and yes for each menu? Multiple no's are not really necessary for the touch version I think. Other than that brilliant job!
OP UPDATED: SEE NOTE REGARDING OFF MODE CHARGING. I am working on this but have no idea how to fix it.
Checked off mode charging on International last night. It DOES work but has the same issue as the non touch version. I suspect that what happens is when it finishes charging the phone turns on. However I can report it will charge the phone to 100% it is a very minor bug!

Hi,I like to try it but I just don't understand the sideload concept?
Does this means that we can now copy whole rom files without having the device booted into a ROM just like copy-paste
Consider me a noob
I understand that by flashing this recovery we should be safe of bricking our device?
(I mean off mode charging and copy rom files in case we forgot to do it when the ROM was booted)

I am using Hasoon2000's Toolkit, which is working well.
I have received the Unlock_code.bin file and copied it into the Data folder of Hasoon2000's Toolkit.
Unfortunately I am not getting any advice from that thread and I want to continue to Unlock the Bootloader and then Root the device.
I do have the instructions with regards to the Toolkit but I am a bit confused as to which Recovery I flash, the choices are CWM ATT/Telus and CWM International.
I am with O2 in the UK.
Any help will be much appreciated as I have already learn't the hard way having had to pay for a new motherboard already which HTC refused to replace under warranty.
If you bought the phone from o2 then you have the international version - AT&T/Telus phones are sold by these companies in northern america.

Thank you for answering me, you are the first person on this forum to directly help me with something after I have asked advice about 10 times since last night, I really appreciate your kindness.
Just another 3 questions if I may ask you please because having had to pay a large amount already on a Device that is only 1 month old makes me very cautious ?
1. After I have Unlocked the Bootloader, will the device still be functional or do I have to go through all the steps left in the rest of the instructions ?
2. So I choose the CWM International and flash that ?
3. Is it necessary to flash the recovery if all I want to do is basically just Root my device at this stage ?
Here are the instructions below, I have Bolded the steps that I have already completed.
Extract the FOLDER to your C: drive or to your desktop.
MAKE SURE YOUR DIRECTORY DOES NOT HAVE A PERIOD OR SPACE.
Open One X.exe
So now you have my program open. Great.
On your phone, go to Settings -> Developer Options and Enable USB Debugging.
From my toolkit, Click 1. Install HTC Drivers.
After the drivers install, restart your computer.
After your computer loads up, open my toolkit and connect your phone to the computer. Your phone should now be recognized.
Now, click 2. Register at HTCDev. Register with a VALID email address and LEAVE the web browser open.
Now, under the commands section of my toolkit, press Boot into Bootloader.
You should have a nice, white, shiny screen that says FASTBOOT USB.
Click 3. Get Token ID. Look at the pop up and it will tell you how to get the Token ID.
Highlight where it says < < < < Identifier Token Start > > > > all the way to < < < < < Identifier Token End > > > > > and right click and it will automatically copy it.
Now, click Submit Token ID. Your web browser should now open a new tab. Scroll down and in the empty box, paste your Token ID. Press submit. HTCDev now emailed you your unlock token.
Your phone should still be in the bootloader. Now, go to the email address you registered to HTCDev and DOWNLOAD your unlock_code.bin. Press 5. Unlock Bootloader. Locate your unlock_code.bin and it will flash it to your phone.
READ the warning. THIS WILL WIPE ALL YOUR DATA FROM THE PHONE.
When you agree to it, press the volume up button and press the power button to accept it. Your phone will now restart.
When your phone loads up, go through the set up wizard. Then, on your phone, go to Settings -> Developer Options and Enable USB Debugging.
Under the Extras section, press Perm Root. It will push SuperSU.zip to your phone.
Under commands, press Boot into Bootloader once again.
Now, it is time to flash a recovery. The custom recovery is for 2 different devices
TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) is a custom recovery that will allow you to flash custom ROMs, Mods, etc.
If your phone is from AT&T or Telus, then flash the one that says TWRP ATT/Telus.
If your phone is NOT from AT&T or Telus, then flash the one that says TWRP International.
After it flashes, remove the USB cable and have HBOOT selected in bootloader. Press the power button and it will reload to another screen. Press the Volume Down button until you get to Recovery. Press the power button to select it.
Go to Backup and back up your boot and system partition. Always have a back up before you flash or do anything.
After that, go to Install and locate SuperSU.zip. Click it and slide the screen on the bottom to flash it. After it flashes, reboot the phone.
In your app drawer (your menu with all the apps), open SuperSU. If it says the binary needs to be updated, then update it. If it doesn't, then you are fully rooted!

The phone is functional, but all personal data is wiped after unlocking and you have to set it up again like the first time you used it and updates by HTC may not work with a rooted phone and/or custom recovery. If you want to root the phone I would do it like hansoon wrote it in his manual: flash recovery - make backup in recovery - flash superuser app or a custom ROM
2. So I choose the CWM International and flash that ?

Yes. Instead of CWM you could also flash the TWRP recovery, which you can get here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/enrc2b
3. Is it necessary to flash the recovery if all I want to do is basically just Root my device at this stage ?

I don't know whether you can flash the superuser app without a custom recovery - I never tried that. So, as said above, go through the instructions in hansoon's manual and everything should be fine.

Bricked my phone

Hello All,
I posted this on the post for Android Revolution and seem to have run out of interest. This was my post.
Hello,
I messed up and flashed the boot file before I installed the rom file in the internal storage. Now the phone wont boot at all. Can you help me fix this please.
I've tried to search for answers but cant find anything.
I can get into fastboot mode and into CMW mode. So I am able to enter sideload mode but cant get the phone to take the sideload.
I'm afraid I may have formatted the storage too.
Can anyone help me please?
Steve the noob.
Right now I am completely bricked. Tried everything, reinstalled SDK, tried sideloading in a couple of ways, stuck in bootloader or CMW. Try to load and sticks on white HTC page.
PLEASE HELP. I followed all of the directions except for loading the boot first.
Is there a factory reset like the old Oden system that could save me?
Can you get into fastboot?
If so you need to then flash the boot.img via fastboot.
Type fastboot flash (name of file).img in command prompt and you should be good to go!
which boot image?
Looks like you took the wrong version for your phone. You have an AT&T / Telus phone. You can not take an International ROM for your phone.
Only AT&T / TELUS ROMs will work on your phone.
I forgot, you can not bricked your phone since our HTC ONE X+ are S-ON, you just missed something to have it going.

Which CWM are you on? Lloir or the other guys? VERIFY YOU HAVE THE PROPER RECOVERY INSTALLED. IF YOU ARE ON THE AT&T MODEL USE THE AT&T RECOVERY
You can run an RUU (verify proper carrier and model) while at the fastboot screen, or install TWRP and try to sideload using that from the SDK PLATFORM TOOLS FOLDER. You mentioned you have the SDK installed but I need to stress DO NOT USE THE TOOL KIT IT IS WORTHLESS. Make sure you have the official HTC drivers installed that come with HTC SYNC using generic drivers from the tool kit usually yields worthless resutls.
I cant get the rom on the phone. It's completely stuck in a boot loop. Only thing I can do is go into bootloader or CWM. I need to sideload a rom. But it wont let me.

OK...
Let's start with the correct Recovery for your phone, download link -> Click me!
N.B. -> Rename this file like this -> TWRP2recovery
Put this file in your platform-tools of SDK folder.
Put your phone in bootloader (fastboot USB)
Type this : fasboot devices (Enter... you should have your serial in return)
Then type : fastboot flash recovery TWRP2recovery.img (Enter)
Again type : fastboot erase cache (Enter)
Unplug your USB cable and hit Power button one time
Select Recovery
Hit Power button one time to reboot in Recovery
Try to sideload an ATT&T / TELUS ROM ONLY
Go for Elegancia AT&T/TELUS ROM for this time. (Choose one of your choice in the Download section here)
What are the results?
Well, thanks for all your efforts, but it's a lost cause. I tried the last posters suggestions and it wont let me flash the recovery at all. It's done. I have insurance so I'm just going to smash it and file a claim. I give up. I wont do that again.

Oh, by the way, my bootloader has been relocked. Can I fix this through bootloader?
First let's install your SDK folder correctly then you will see, it will work flawlessly.
Have a look at my screenshot, see how mine look simple compare to yours.... Yes, I have two devices plugged.
Install your SDK tool like it is explained in this thread.
The version numbers are different but the installation stay the same.

[Q] Team Win Recovery mytouch 4g slide

Hello,
I currently purchased a phone that I believe is rooted. When I power up it just remains in the tmobile screen. When I go and do a factory reset it goes into this team win recovery program. It doesn't seem to have an OS and I just want to get it back to factory settings. In the loader screen it indicated that s-on. Im new and don't have a clue how to get this back to factory. PLEASE HELP
Thanx in advance
Jason

Will this put the phone back to factory. I know this sounds dumb but how do you flash the rom and kernel.
These are instructions that will work for almost (depending on what TWRP(TEAMWINRECOVERYPROJECT) version you have) any ROM. So first tell us what version you have.
Then do your homework and find your device's android development section and find a ROM you like or one that is mostly stock, or just stock. Make sure you find/ download a flashable .zip file. Then download it and if it requires gapps (it'll say on the op(original post) of the ROM thread) then download those too. Then put these files on a microusb and pop it into your phone and flash via recovery. Stop. Don't reboot yet or anything.
Now. How much do you do android. Do you have adb/drivers for your phone yet? Reply as you figure all this out and we will help you through it.
Back to the guide. You are still in recovery after you flashed thing(s). Connect to computer and go to adb or just terminal and type adb reboot bootloader or just figure out how to reboot into fastboot with your phone (using the volume buttons or something).
Now. You are in fastboot mode after you have flashed file(s) in recovery. Go to the rom zip you flashed and extract it using 7zip. Take the boot.IMG and throw it in your folder your adb is in and type what the first guy said and then your all set.

Thx for the help...the twrp version I have is 2.2.2.1
now before I start my phone is in s-on is this ok? I was reading that a lot of roms wont work with security on.
Also I tried the pg59img.zip which is how to unroot my phone. I put this onto my sd card directory and ran but it didn't do anything.

since you have s-on that just means you have to do the fast boot part. if you have s-off you can stop after the recovery part. I think that is a high enough twrp for any firmware released yet. so you're recovery version is good. but id leave s-on because its hard to get it off sometimes and it keeps your phone more or less safe from becoming a brick. yeah all the zip does is delete su binaries i think... root just means you can have access to more partitions. if i were you id keep root. root itself cant hurt your device it just enables you to be able to do bad stuff to your device, but also goooooood stuff. so the culprit for your phone not working is likely just a bad flash so don't blame root, no need to unroot, you just need to get a good rom working. continue through instructions and reply as you have questions/uncertainties.

I just bought this for my wife and she doenst need anything complex. She likes the original tmobile OS. Id like to get it back to that state.
Okay then just look in your section for the latest stock in a flashable zip. Try the android development stickies or the android general stickies maybe the q&a stickies. Look for something that returns you to stock and steal the zip link form that tutorial. I've gotta go for a few hours. If you want when I get back I could find one for you sometimes they can be difficult to find

Go to the mt4g slide developers thread and download miktouch or bulletproof, both are based of stock T-Mobile os with some small improvements, being they use the stock kernel you shouldn't have to bother with fastboot.
Personally I find having all radio secure flags removed is best but to each their own. And if you want true stock (which is horrible on this phone) it will require extra syeps

I really do appreciate all the help. I was able to flash cm9 but now I get stuck in the avatar screen. It never goes into the os. I am assuming this is because of the boot. Can you please explain how to boot and how to get out of being stuck.
Thanx again
Download 7zip, its free. Take the ROM that you flashed, use 7zip to extract the contents, you will see something in there called boot.img , this is your kernel.
Go into fastboot mode through bootloader and connect device to PC, open up cmd in the location you boot.img is
Now in cmd type
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
All should now work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42407269
If you don't have fastboot installed here is a link for a simple install for windows, also there is a link there to a fastboot how to use guide that I made for both windows and linux

Ok im almost there..Im in cm9. The original problem with this phone is the software doesn't see the charge of the battery. This is why I wanted to go back to factory default. I can let the phone sit with ac power, and the amber light never turns green. In boot mode I can let it sit for a long time and it wont die (off the battery only). Ive tried 3 different batteries, 3 different chargers all with the same result. Pins cleaned. Is there a way to calibrate the battery in the software? Is this software related (bad rom)? Again the amber light does indicate a charge and in the sw it shows a ligntning bolt through the battery but indicates 0% charge. Any help is appreciated.
Thanxk
battery
Swwwweeeeeeeettttt..I never knew that you have to leave it on for sometime to reach full charge status..Even though I had it on ac power charging the battery all night without the rom.
Nevermind all. TY so much for all the help and info. Im confident that I know enough to cause some trouble.
battery
Sorry I was mistaken. When powered up the phone will charge (seems slowly) the battery. But as soon as I power down, remove the charger, and power back up it loses the charge and shuts down. Any suggestions.
Try an external battery charger, if it still fails its the contacts or the logicboard

Ive tried the external battery and same issue. Could it be in the software. I don't get how it will remain on in boot mode with no charge for hours.
But when I go into cm9 and put it on the charger itll say charging...As soon as I remove the charger it shuts down.
Battery
Also a note...If I go into battery it says 0% - charging usb but the usage is insane
Screen = 75%
cell standby = 16%
Driode system = 6%
Is this the reason it cant charge? Im really at a loss here..Please help.
Phone will never charge in bootloader mode
Screen always takes up majority of battery use
If you have tried different batteries, different usbs, different ROMs, then all that's left is to see if there are malicious apps eating up battery and causing wake locks or assume its hardware.
Only two radios to pick from here, you can try whatever one you don't currently have but the only real safe way to change radios is with fastboot and you'll need soff for that

PLEASE HELP (DON'T KNOW HOW TO FLASH) VERIZON HTC ONE MAX - Confused am I.

I would like to know how to upgrade to a new ROM (Lollipop or better) on my Verizon HTC One Max with the option to return to stock. Software Information: 4.4.2, Sense 6.0, 3.09.605.3, 6.20, 4.60_002, 15432, 5
I was told to use (and did) Sunshine and then downloaded SuperSU from Google Store (per very detailed instructions and was told to not choose TWRP when the question popped up to choose one or the other (common/normal?)).
My phone is now UNLOCK and S-OFF as well as Rooted (but I'm having a lot of problems with blank screens, etc. and even had the black screen with the red ! in a red triangle (and I don’t know how I got it to boot up again (pushed pwr buttons, vol +/-, etc.)). However, that is as far as I’ve gotten. Confused am I.
I don’t know how to flash; however, I’ve been trying to figure it out, but I’m lost.
I’ve downloaded a lot of files from other threads, but the instructions, while detailed, didn’t say HOW to flash or add TWRP where I (a NEWBORN NEWBIE/NOOBIE) could understand, etc. Is there a place where all this is together?
Am I out of luck or would someone PLEASE help me fix and upgrade it with the option to return to stock if needed? I would love to have Sense 7.0, if possible. I apologize for such a long post/thread.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!!!
P. S. My phone is now Prepaid Verizon (was Postpaid). Don't know if that matters. I have pics of the files I downloaded from one of your great guys, but they are on my computer. Not sure how to upload. I AM GLAD THAT I FOUND YOUR SITE!!!!!
@LoveSpock I am going to make this short and simple...
First off the Verizon Max software only goes up to 4.4.2. If you want to upgrade you'll need a custom rom which is why you S-OFF and unlocked...
You will need to get familiar with fastboot commands. Google is your friend on how to use if you don't know how to. Here is the link to the TWRP image for your device. http://flyhalf205.com/recoveries/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.7.1-t6univ.img Once you get fastboot setup you will type in the command fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.7.1-t6univ.img Make sure you have everything in the same directory when executing the command.
From there you are free to wipe then flash anything you would like. Wiping will delete your data so text, contacts that are stored on local phone(not sim or google) will be deleted.
@Flyhalf205
Thank you for your response and instructions. Does this mean I don't need to do anything to the SUPERSU that is already on the phone (and what it did)?.... Following your instructions will wipe everything?
I'll definitely need to take out my sd card. I've saved a ton of stuff on it. ...and backup my contacts and text messages.
I have some more googling and try to learn what you wrote for me to learn. I'll also have to find out what ROM to use....
Your Padawan thanks you.

Shouldn't worry about supersu. Most custom ROMs are going to have that prebuilt into it. Once you get TWRP we will go further into detail about how stuff works.
If you use twrp no need to take your SD card out just go to setting and unchecked SD card and like lovespoke said make sure to dl the right file you can dl right fastboot files here on xda just search it
Hey! Don't mean to hijack the thread but I'm in the same boat. I've never rooted and I'm looking to root my Verizon HTC one max. I'd also like to maybe install a custom Rom but I'm a noob so I'm not quite sure what I'm doing. Ok so it's my understanding that sunshine will root, s-off, AND unlock my boot loader? Btw I have no idea what those terms mean. Anyway, if someone could please confirm that about sunshine, it would really help me out. I've already downloaded and installed sunshine on my phone but I haven't paid the $25 yet.
Xx Moe, I strongly suggest you READ the various threads on XDA about unlocking bootloaders, gaining S-OFF and rooting. You can easily brick a device and there's much less support for the Max now than there was when it came out more than two years ago.
I don't believe Verizon HTC One Max's can be rooted without unlocking bootloader/gaining S-OFF and the exclusive method for that is Sunshine (unless you know someone with a Java card). Once you're bootloader unlocked and S-OFF, you can then "flash" any partition on the device and that's how to brick the device.
Once you are bootloader unlocked and S-OFF, you start by flashing a 'recovery', which is usually the latest version of TWRP for the HTC One Max. Don't flash a recovery for a different device. (Google "Team Win Recovery Project"). Once you have a custom recovery you can "wipe" your device and flash a new ROM.
Wiping deletes all data, or some data, depending upon how you wipe, and there are not very many Verizon HTC One Max ROMs out there that are fully functional. Check the threads, one sticky thread has a listing of ROMs.
Finally, I don't believe anyone has gotten Marshmallow going on a Max, so expect the "best" you'll be able to do is a Lollipop ROM or a Cyanogen Mod equivalent.
Awesome! Thanks for the super quick reply. So yes, sunshine will s-off and unlock boot loader. That seemed to be the million dollar question since (like you said) the one max doesn't have very much support anymore. I'm definitely going to keep reading the forums because I don't want to brick my phone. I've also been watching some tutorials on YouTube. Everything (so far) seems pretty straight forward now, but you can never be too careful. Thanks for your help hgoldner!

Download the platform tools and the android usb driver. Don't need anything else.
But basically if your s-off yet. Boot into HBOOT. Power off phone and hold down both power button and the volume down button. Select fastboot using the power button. Your computer should hopefully automatically pick up drivers and call the device "My HTC" in the device manager. If not you'll need to go in and manually assign the downloaded driver using the link above to the Android device in device manager.
Download twrp image file into the same directory as the platform tools downloaded to. In windows, right click while holding down shift anywhere on the white blank area in platform tools and click on "open command window here".. From there you will type in the command fastboot flash recovery recoveryFileName.img
If it says waiting for device. Check device manager and make sure the driver is installed right.

I forget if you were s-off or s-on but you will need to be s-off or your bootloader will need to be unlocked.. You don't need a rom just yet. You could flash recovery and flash root for starters. But once you get it flashed we can start on what to do next.

Sorry... I started the thread back in January. I've been out of commission and starting over.
I had used Sunshine to S-off and Unlock. I used SU to root. I knew nothing about flashing or fastboot and am still learning. One of your original responses to my original post said that google was my friend, so I googled per your advice and found some information on fastboot.
I don't know what flash root means in your response above.
You had also gave me the link to the TWRP image for my phone. You also wrote "Make sure you have everything in the same directory when executing the command." I've added 2 of the pics again as well as one of your img file in the directory I created when I loaded Android Studio.
The Android Studio I downloaded is the latest. Does that make a difference? I did find info on this site about a minimal adb and fastboot. Would that have been better?
I'm imagining my phone will be out of commission until the new ROM is installed, right? (See how I'm still such a Newbie/Noobie!)
Thank you!
Your Padawan
