I jumped ship, but i had no choice! Help me choose - AT&T LG Optimus G

Alright so i had gotten a warranty replacement OG earlier last week and i had woken up one day only to find it unable to turn on, LG logo would show and then would just turn off, tried to LGNPST it and it had no effect so i called ATT and they sent me to a device support store. They tried using their own LG tools and could not communicate with the phone so they considered it a dead on arrival phone. They didn't have any OG at that location and i needed a phone that day because i was making a long road trip and couldn't go without my phone (gps) so they gave me a OX+... with the option to have them send me an OG when i got home and me send them the OX+ back. aaaaannnd i really really like the OX+.. It does benchmark slightly lower than my OG 17500(ish on the OG) vs 15500 on the OX+ (but i hear that antutu is snapdragon biased?) anyways, hardware wise the OG is better, but this thing is so damn nice in my hand, build quality is awesome, i love the sound quality when plugged into aux (had to turn up the radio to like 30 with the OG to get a muddy quality loudish audio, where the beats eq makes it sound amazing, way louder at like 19 on the radio and MUCH more crisp and clean audio) Camera is way better, 64 gb of internal is nice... plenty of dev.. Im for real torn between them both, i love certain things about both of em and dont like certain things.. Guess i just would like to know what others opinions are about the OX+ compared to the OG, maybe this isnt the right place to post this for an unbiased opinion, but please try and be unbiased? haha
tl;dr
My OG got messed up, they gave me an HTC One X+, i really like it but love the OG also, would like to hear unbiased opinions to help make decision which to keep.

Keep the one x+ if you like it. I would if it was me.

I agree with gunnyman. Keep the HOX+, if you like it. Either way you have a very good phone. Best plan may be to research it like you are buying a new one and pick the one that you like best. If it's truly a toss up, keep the one that you have in hand.

To me the only difference between the HOX+ and the LGOG is expandable storage vs fixed, but 64GB, actually what 58 GB ish? is plenty.
I'm told the battery life on the HOX+ isn't as good, because Krait chips use less power over all and have integrated the LTE radio on the SoC.
If someone approached me today and wanted to trade my LGOG for a HOX+ I'd probably take them up on it.
I may be biased though because my One X is the best phone I've ever owned.

Ok, not trying to start a argument at all. This is just my opinion so do not take this the wrong way. My wife has a one x and I can't stand it. It was ok to begin with but over time I have grown to hate it. She has went through seven replacements since this past September. All for different reasons. To me it is a cheaply made device. She definitely won't get another htc phone and I won't either for that matter. If I was the op I would stick with the lg.

I had 2 HOX's the first one had a bad camera module in it. I've heard of people with problems with theirs for sure, but luckily mine was rock solid.
Only reason I got rid of it was I got sick of At&T and their restrictions on bootloader unlock and such.

Yes. And my One X was fully rooted and had custom ROMS, however it was a pain in the ass and in protest I got rid of my One X.

To solve your sound issues on the OG, use MysteryEmotions' kernel and the FauxSound and Speaker Loudness apps. The camera is a distinct win for the X+. Everything else is either close or a win for the OG. I considered the X+ before I bought my OG, but the OG had a lot more in the Pro column when weighing the Pros and Cons between the two. I wouldn't trade it now for anything currently out there. Even of the upcoming devices only the Experia Z has piqued my interest.

Hmm.. I think I need to root it and remove bloat to really make a solid decision. I've decided that the only thing that the OG wins with is s4 pro and 2gb of ram... Is the s4 pro really that much better?
Also with the mystery & faux fix, it's nice knowing that it was cared about when the phone was being made, not give it the worst possible quality and then never fixed.
Bout to root it and see what's up with the stock rom

the S4 pro is a generation ahead of Tegra 3.
smaller nanometer fab, lower power.
I think the only place it loses to Tegra 3 is GPU, and even that's just barely.
You lose some effects on some games and access to the tegrazone games, but I don't use my phone for heavy duty gaming, I have a Nexus 7 for that.
For me, the feel in the hand and the excellent build quality of the One X+ beat out the LGOG.
The nice thing about the HOX+ is of course, official repos for CM10

Yeah, the S4 Pro is built upon a better chip architecture, and is definitely faster/more efficient then the Tegra 3. Where I would like to disagree is the GPU. Sure Tegra has their effects, but any phone can run those, and use Chainfire3D to unlock that stuff on any phone. The Adreno 320, scores more than double in GPU benchmarks the X+ score.
The X+ wins in official support for now, but other than roms, it has a better camera, and the sound quality is definitely a placebo: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/06/26/beats-me-why-htcs-amazing-sound-on-the-international-one-x-isnt-amazing-at-all-even-by-the-numbers/

Idk if i can agree on the sound quality being a placebo.. The difference in quality with beats off and then beats on is like night and day. And I could Never get the og to sound decent no matter what rom, ad-on, app I used. Always sounded like garbage..
I don't play games on any phone.. Idk how people can be hard core gamers on these.. Lol

Beats is merely an EQ. Its not some type of crazy hardware. I've used the official Beats EQ compared to a One X and the OG was similar. With Poweramp and high quality files, sound quality is awesome on my OG. Yeah 2GB of RAM guarantees support for much longer through ROMs.

Don't let it. Android will manage the ram. You'll only notice if you run more than 4 or 5 apps at once and constantly switch between them. Even with 1 GB of ram androids beat the hell out of iOS for multitasking.

Rezound or One X?

I Really want to get a new HTC phone so i could get rid of my blackberry. I used to have a touchpro 2 and loved it!
so ive been researching both the rezound and one X but i can't come to a conclusion of which one to get... just looking for some opinions.
Thanks

Are you in the US? If so, you're saddled to AT&T and we all know AT&T is a Rezounding failure. Verizon isn't picking up a "One" phone that we know of ... so unless Sense 4.0 is a deal breaker...Rezound all the way

It won't get Sense 4.0 officially, but developers are already working on Sense 4.0 with ICS 4.0.3 and it's a day or two from being released as a daily driver.
Even then the One X is a quad-core phone, there's no reason not to get it.
Although I don't like the white.

Honestly, do you really think you'll notice the difference between the S3 and S4 in daily use(if you're getting it American)? I'd rather have a 4.3 inch screen with 720p, than the gigantic 4.7, its nicer, and plus we have removable battery and sdcard space, a huge plus. The Rezound can run sense 4 perfectly fine, HTC just wants the one series to be their main money makers.

I don't care what a new phone does if you can't take the battery out.
Those are two really good reasons that nobody wants a nexus.
Performance wise, it won't be the deal breaker, since the dual core pretty much handles everything smoothly unless google optimize the next generation os with quad-core. Bigger engine doesn't always run faster and more efficient , especially in this high gas price age.

The nexus has a removable battery.
I don't mind the whole not.having an sd card thing. I'll be honest, it didn't bother me one bit. It takes five minutes to copy all the files over to your computer, and with the WiFi file transfer apps, its even shorter.
I definitely wouldn't base my decision of which phone to buy on whether there is a removable ad card. Unless someone can explain some great features that I simply haven't found yet.
With that said, the rezound is an awesome phone while amazing hardware. I absolutely love it

Even if Google optimizes the OS for quad cores, it'll only help for the actual Android system itself, not any of the apps you use, half the apps in the Play Store only use 1 core anyway and won't probably ever change that since it's not needed. (Facebook for example, Pandora, etc)
The S4 is a beast processor, best available, Tegra 3 is good for pure power but probably nothing else, I'd hold off on it honestly if you're rocking anything in the past few months.
Now if the One S came to Verizon with a S4 in it, that'd be a better debate.

This.
Obviously the Tegra 3 would beat the Note in terms of raw performance.
But I love the Note because of it's versatility. It's more than just a phone.
Two things make the Note the winner in my eyes. The screen, and the fact that I hate Sense. Samsung has screens on lock, and I couldn't go away from Super AMOLED or this 5.3" beauty. And I know Sense is easily dealt with by custom launchers and such, but the icons still bug me in the app drawer.
Plus, I don't have any complaints with my Note's performance, so any performance improvements from here will really only interest me if they improve battery life with similar performance...that, or I want to be able to hook my phone up to a controller and HDTV and play Battlefield 3 online.
Didn't read that article, but I'm gonna say that I still prefer Note over the One X.
I usually "rent" the newest phones for a couple of months before returning it, but I still haven't tried out the intl One X yet (and probably gonna pass on it).
Other than some casual skimming online, the One X looks like it's barely even better than the original GS2 (if at all...)
Although it looks like the One series is something "different"...I'm not too sure how fast HTC can recover from consecutive quarters of having decreasing profits.
That's what happened from them releasing EVO rehashes....whereas Samsung actually released newer upgraded stuff.
Coming from the htc evo I already hate htc with there crappy sence stuff... The evo was a cool phone for a bit and the new htc one x looks nice but im loving samsungs screens and i love the huge screen on my note... I would rather stick to my note!!!

I'd prefer the international HTC One X over the AT&T Galaxy Note, but if we're comparing both AT&T versions, I'd go for the Note.
I am sticking with the note. I hate when he does the quadrant on the note. That's not accurate. I would get 3200 on stock. He has to many rogue apps running. My SERAPHIM ICS ROM averages 3500 quadrant. So that is a unfair comparison.

The ones has awesome battery life? I thought it did not, and I don't like the fact that a battery can't be swapped out.
The ones looks nice but I like my Note, especially since I got it 2 months ago and I have probably about 16 months until upgrade eligible!
I'm not as worried about the non-swap battery as I am the lack of a MicroSd slot. While I generally don't bump up against the internal storage max, I always feel more comfortable knowing I can add additional storage if (and I always seem to add a card ) I want/need to.
I have to say that I love my note and other than rooting it at present, I am sticking with stock till ICS or a really stable ROM comes along.

Not to mention they're comparing the international OneX to the AT&T note which for most people here makes no sense (haha, get it?). The AT&T OneX will only have a dual core 1.5GHz Snapdragon which is found in the Note because the Tegra 3 doesn't support LTE. So this thread is kind of pointless. The Note has a bigger and better screen, better UI, and everything else is about the same between the two.
Oh and a non-removable battery and no memory expansion? What are we, Iphone users now?
I am pretty confident the ATT One X is going to have the S4 anyway... No LTE support on the Tegra 3.

If you mean why did the websites compare the two? Probably because they're both the new edgy devices and wanted more readers to think that they had something insightful to day. Or they were just bored and wanted to kill all our time.
If you mean the OP? I'd probably say they were bored.

The Amaze's S3 processor can't touch the S4, it may be the same clock speed but the optimization the S4 has is ridiculous, for a dual core it's off the charts and I'm not talking benchmarks, if benchmarks do come in to play, the S4 gets three times the power the S3 does, but on a daily use basis, I really don't think there's much of a difference, the S4 is a smoother on stock than the S3 but now one really cares once it does the job lagfree, that's good enough and the S3 can do that just fine.

The answer is No. My Brother has the S3 and I have the Amaze. They are comparable. New "better" phones come out every other month. So is every older phone outdated? I don't think so. A year from now, revisit this topic. As of right now, Amaze holds its own in real life performance against any other phone.
I don't feel the amaze is outdated, but I'm bored of it, I want the One S, I can live without the sd card (I don't use my phone for media except pictures), I can live with the battery but the main reason is the camera.
with a lil over a month of ownership - the phone doesn't feel outdated to me... still do what it does and it's been serving me well.. yeah it may not be the "****" anymore but it was the top dog when it debuted late last year.. same case is going to happen with SGS3, ONE X etc when another high end device topples them whether it be another Samsung, HTC or another brand. Speaking of SGS3, i've compared camera quality and although it may be a superior device - Amaze still holds its own right. With being unrooted and still running the ota ics, it's performing just fine.. i just know how to make a few tweaks to improve battery and performance w/o a need for rooting = )
outdated? No. Top of the line hardware? No. Plenty of life left to live? Yes. I say 2 years and then it will be outdated. Will it see JB official or unofficial? Yes

Not outdated, but HTC definitely mucked up the design. Why would they make the screen pop out instead of having it flush with the bezel? (as every manufacturer was doing before HTC, and HTC only started doing it with the HTC one series if I'm correct)

[Q] Convince me: One X+ over Galaxy S3

Ok. I'm planning to upgrade from my LG G2x (Wind Optimus 2X) to either with Galaxy S3 or the One X+ (North American - Telus Canada versions). I'm leaning to the S3, but I want to see if people on this forum can change my mind. My criteria:
- Real-life performance (benchmarks are moot)
- Battery-life
- Camera performance
- Construction quality
- Future proofing (ROM development both 3rd party or manufacturer)
Coming from the LG G2x, I've learned a lot of lesson on areas I've gotten burned. That's one reason I've ruled out the Nexus 4 (being LG) and that fact that 16GB is not freaking enough. Google is smoking dope if they think we can get everything off the cloud and don't need much storage...not when we're on a plane or in the subway. I've learned that nVidia is terrible and doesn't support or provide source code for the Tegra (at least for the Tegra 2), I've learned, that though the processor was great, the G2x was totally short on RAM 384MB (usable), I've learn that given all these issues both LG and developers here and there weren't spending much effort supporting the device.
I much prefer the design and construction of the One X+ over the Galaxy S3, I also prefer, Sense over TouchWiz, but I'm open to trying new ROMs, skins, and launchers. I prefer things to work well stock, out of the box, but again if I need to rolling in a new ROM (or just a nice update on Android, I'm happy to do so.)
So I've probably already convinced myself based on my criteria, the S3 is better choice for me, even though, I dread the look and the feel in hand, and the fact that it's as ubiquitous as the iPhone. So someone convince me otherwise to go with the One X+ instead.

I just came from the s3 and all I can say is if you like features speed and a beautiful phone one x plus is for you as for development the s3 is going to be best if you like switching roms

How do you find the battery life and camera compared to the S3? Reading reviews online and the battery thread here, I still sense the still S3 wins in those categories.

I too came from the S3. I exchanged it for a One X+ yesterday. So far, the build quality is like day and night between the S3 and one X plus. The 64 gb of storage is useful as well.

It depends on what ROM you plan to use for battery life. I can't make a solid answer about battery yet, but I will say if you plan on gaming it eats up battery pretty quickly. IMO, I prefer the One X camera. Audio quality on the one X plus seems better as well. My advice would be to go to a store and try both phones out and see which one is best for you.

The battery is about the same as my s3, that I owned for 4 months it's about 8-19 hours depending on how heavy I use my phone mostly tapatalk YouTube pulse facebook talk and texting all day with some GPS navigation. The camera is about the same, (HTC camera software blows Samsung's out the water) HTC one x wins all the way in my book, the phone works great s3 software is still ics stock while the one x is jellybean.
One thing I wanna note is the one x plus has no lagg at all the speakers on the s3 internal and external sucks compared to onex+

Not a lot gaming at all. More surfing, videos, and I tend to use navigation a lot when I'm travelling. I hate having my phone out of juice in the middle of the afternoon especially when I'm travelling in another city because I was using the navigation/GPS a lot.

For me personally there is also a non technical/specs related reason. I've always been a fan of HTC devices. Design, build quality and reliability is the best among Android devices. Eventhough competing brands might offer a specs wise slightly better device, I keep supporting HTC by buying their products. I want the company to stay in the Android phone business! Otherwise Samsung or Apple will soon be the only main manufacturers...
I also come d one s3 and j have a passion which is the concert, level video photograph, battery, the one x + is to superieur in s3 however that ci etait root

Agree 100% on HTC as company. In fact, I was using HTC for my two previous devices prior to going to the LG G2x. Again big regret going to LG. But times have changed a bit and Samsung is really pulling ahead in the Android market. My biggest concern with One X+ reading around is the battery life. Right now it seems some people are doing fine with while others are having some serious battery drain issues. I might need to get the device and try it a couple of days to really find out for myself.

Isn't there a 14-30 day period when u buy a phone that u can return it no questions asked with a new contract? If so, why does anyone need to tell anyone answers to questions they can figure out on their own? Lol. Get the S3, play with it for 10 days, return it for hox+, return it in 10 days, then stick with the one u like best. If u can't figure out battery life in 10 days then a smartphone probably ain't for u, lol! Some people
If you had to choose between phones, choose between the Optimus G or the HTC One X+. I say this because I personally want to spend $200 on a phone with 1.) Good Build Quality and 2.) not outdated Hardware (the S3 has a dual core, all phones now have quad core). If you want many ROMs, then get the S3. I've had all 3 phones, and I'm sticking with the One X+. Battery life is on par with S3, but the Optimus G has the best out of all. One X+ screen is on par with Optimus G, and they both blow the S3 screen. S3 and One X+ cameras are both good, Optimus G's is mediocre.
Hope this helped.

I'm in Canada, so things are a little different with our carriers. My current provider had a 30min voice and 50MB data usage limit to void the device return policy even though the period is 14 days. I'll have to look into Telus's policy more closely if they also have something similar. That and we have 3 yr contracts and better healthcare...
I just returned my One X+. I wanted it because I really like the 64GB of internal storage. Plus I was getting bored with my Galaxy S3. I knew I was losing RAM but figured it was worth the trade off (the U.S. GS3 has 2GB RAM vs 1GB for One X+).
I have the GS3 with AOKP and after using the One X+ I realized it is NOT faster than my GS3 like I was thinking it would be. I knew the One X+ was not as friendly to root and flash ROMs like the GS3 but I was willing to just leave it stock. It's not that it lagged or anything. It works great as is. It's just that having the Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 (Nexus 4) it did not offer the performance boost I was looking for. As for the storage, my GS3 does have less internal storage but it does accept SD cards.
It does play better looking games than the US GS3 with its Adreno 225. It will get really hot playing the high end games but I had a case on so I didn't feel it as much. The One X+ GPU is not better than the iPhone 5 GPU or even the Nexus 4 with its Adreno 320. I knew that before hand but was still fine with that. I just mention it here in case you didn't know.
As for battery life, I had a PowerSkin on my One X+ that offers some protection AND has spare battery power if and when needed. So I didn't have a battery problem myself.
If your fine not having a device that's as friendly to hack and has as much developer support then I would say the One X+ would be good over the GS3. I didn't like that by keeping my One X+ stock that I couldn't disable all the bloat but it was a small price to pay I guess.

You do realize the one x+ has a 12 core gpu. IPhone 5 is a quad gpu and I'm not sure about the s4 pro.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
lol. You believe because it has more cores that makes it better? The “cores" are not equal at all. The GPU's are different. And although you see that number you are very mistaken to think that makes it more powerful. Its not. Its not even close to being the same.
No the iPhone 5 has a 3 core GPU. The iPad last I check has the quad core GPU to push all those extra pixels. Benchmarks can show how many frames the devices run loading and playing certain things. The iPhone 5 in mine and others who done it handles and plays way smoother with mores frames in those intense benchmark 3D tests.
I forgot some people can't accept a device they like or has being less powerful and beaten by other devices. In whatever area. I didn't mean to make think the One X+ GPU is not good. It just really is not better than the other two I listed. Once my devices GPUs are beaten by others I have no problem accepting that. In fact, I said the Tegra-3 was better than my Adreno 225 in my GS3.

[Q] One X or One X+

I am looking to purchase a brand new (off contract) HTC One X or One X+ off ebay for AT&T. I want one of them for rooting and messing around with custom roms etc..., I am new to rooting but it looks pretty straight forward with the tool kit listed on this site. The One X+ is about $200 more than the original One X, do you think the newer One X+ is worth the extra $200?
Yes for battery and storage alone

The speed and smoothness too.

Not to mention it's free from most design issues that plagued the HOX like the Wi-Fi issue.
I'd say it's worth it. With the HOX you have to choose between quad core or LTE. The updated Tegra 3 in the HOX+ lets you have both and a higher clock speed.

honestly, i would stay clear of the One X+ because of the following reasons:
Terrible performance, specially on 3D games
phone gets hot. really hot when you are playing games
terrible battery life
camera is aweful
the camera gets scratched very easily
very hard to repair if damaged
i bought one, had it for 4 months and just sold it, believe me, it's terrible, i wish someone told me this. when i asked everyone said good things about it...
also if custom roms and mods are your thing, i tell you now that HTC has made it very hard for devs. i used numerous builds of AOKP and CM10.1 etc and they all worked ok but camera performance was terrible, even worse than stock app and lots of niggels with the audio driver

The only negative thing I have to say about this device so far is that the display scratches pretty easy. I haven't dropped my device or put it face down and the bottom area where the capacitive keys are is filled with hairline scratches. Gaming on my phone is pretty good. I guess it depends if the game is Tegra optimized or not.

I recommend clearly the One x +!
Ok. This is my first post to this forum and I wanted to participate in the Talkshow.
I've bought the first one x and found the device very well. Since I was a small smartphone freak but I have a One x sold and bought me one x + and must say WOW!
Not only that it has the larger memory of 64 GB, it is also significantly faster than the one x.
It is fast even with the original software, but since I have the new Viper Rome the device runs like a speed demon.
So I suggest clearly the One x +!

That's project butter for you, I highly doubt any smoothness is a result from an extra .2GHz in clock speed, which is really the only performance difference between the two. The devices are equally capable of running android, the hox+ is just a little bit better at high-end stuff.

The 200mhz is not irrelevant. It's also not the cause of the speed increase. That comes from the newer generation of Tegra 3 soc's. Just like a 3rd gen I7 is slightly faster than a 2nd gen one with the same clockspeed.

I bet your your display is not even scratched. HTC put a Oleophobic coating on the screen. This coating is quite easy to scratch. It's also just as easy to replace
