Hello,
I couldn't find a decent answer, therefore I'll ask here...
I wanted to know if it is possible to associate my android device with my very own custom domain instead of '@gmail.com'. For example: I have my own email alias: '[email protected]' that is setup up as a forwarder to my Gmail '[email protected]' which is associated to my android device, but when viewing I'm gmail app it will show the 'gmail tag'... I want it to show my custom email.
Now, I know that you select to send emails using your forwarder, but that's not what I want.
Thanks.
why cant you directly configure your email account in the defaut email application and use that instead of Gmail app???

I can, but that's not what I asked for. I was wondering if you can do that using Gmail app.

Hi, I searched the forums but could not find any thread that dealt with this issue (for any phone), so I apologize if it's already been posted. And since I don't know if this is just an issue with the Rezound, I'm posting it here.
When I set up my Rezound I entered in my Google account info, and the phone automatically set up my Gmail account both in the Gmail app and in the stock HTC Sense Mail app. The Gmail app seems to work fine, but the stock email app doesn't sync the read status of new messages. If I get any emails in Gmail during the day, even if I log into it on my computer and read the messages, they still show up as unread in the sense mail app. Refreshing the app doesn't change anything. In the Gmail app, the messages will be marked as read if I have viewed them anywhere else.
I can't figure out how to fix this, and there doesn't seem to be a way to edit any server settings for the account, as sense has it registered as a Gmail account in the stock mail app, and not as a pop/imap account.
Anybody having this problem, or know how to fix it? I'm a new android user, and have only had this phone for a few days. Thanks.
Just take the gmail email out of the htc mail and just use the gmail email app to get your gmail mail.

I would like to avoid doing this if possible. I like having all my mail in one place. Any way to fix the stock app?
Email htc/usa and ask them. It only takes one second to push the gmail app, that's what I do. I understand you don't want to do that. Htc should be able to tell you how to change the settings.

I got an official reply from HTC:
Thank you for contacting HTC Technical support about the issue you are having with your Gmail account on your device. I do apologize that you have this issue with your device and I will gladly assist you with this today. We recommend you delete your Gmail account from the mail application on your device and use the Gmail application for your Gmail account on your device. The issue you are having it with the way the Gmail POP3 servers work with the Mail application on the device and there is not a setting to make it sync up to have the mail show up read until you up it on your device.

So it looks like, for whatever reason, the Gmail setting in the sense email app defaults to POP3, even though I have IMAP enabled in my gmail web settings. Unless anyone knows a way to fix this, I guess I will have to either set Gmail up as a regular IMAP account or just use the standalone application.
Thanks for the replies
So, I'm a bit confused with the plethora of options built into this phone. In order to set up Google Play, I had to enter a gmail account. That partially populated email on the phone. But there's also a separate GMAIL program. I can't remember which was necessary before contacts and calendar stuff started to appear.
Am I better off sticking with the phone's email program for gmail, or using the Gmail program from within the google apps folder? What are the plusses/minuses?
Also, is it possible to import contact photos from twitter for name matches or by linking profile to contact name?
Thanks!
GMail app is better for GMail as it allows specific GMail features like the stars, etc
Maybe the e-mail app supports that, but I am only using the E-Mail app for exchange
I would say go for the GMail app!
Use gmail app.
Hi everyone. I've had a look around and couldnt find the answer to my question.
Basically I have a website and I use Google to provide a custom email address. For example if my website was XDA then my email address would be [email protected]
I've tried and failed to add my email address to the email app on Android. My previous two phones were iPhones and they had no problem with the email address, they added the custom email address easily.
It seems weird to me that Apple's iOS accepts Google's custom email addresses as standard but Google' Android doesnt seem to. Could anyone help me set this up? I'm sure I'm not the only one!
hey there
just add a google account and use your personal settings should be good to go.

I know it works in Gmail but I wanted it to work in the default email app. I found a way to do it.
1. Put in your email and password
2. Select imap
3. change imap to imap.gmail.com
4. Security type SSL
5. Press Next
6. Check it's set to smtp.gmail.com
7. Security type SSL
and then it works in the default app

Ohh..u mean for the email app.. :good: yes that is the correct way..google uses IMAP to push your emails.
I have set up a Gmail account as required to use the Google market.
I don't allow this email to backup my contacts etc. Just to be able to use the Google Market.
I need to to set up my primary Gmail account without having it linked to the device. The normal email account set up doesn't allow me to download attachments and is not stable.
How can i do this?
Thanks.
Are you using the gmail app from the market? Works fine for me. I have 2 gmail accounts.. 1 for market, 1 for other stuff, both work with the app.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes I use the Gmail app from the market.
Once installed and before I enter my main Gmail account it asks me to resync, which I do.This brings up the default gmail account needed to run the phone.
Then I can add another Gmail account but it links it to the phone which I don't want it to do. I want to keep my main email account separate from the phone. i.e I don't want it to have all my details in the phone to be in my primary Gmail account. ( if that makes sense).

I am not sure I understand your problem entirely, but if it is of any help, you can choose what to sync and what not to sync to your account from the Settings-> Accounts.
I use gmail native app.
It let's me select which "sender" or "from" address I want to use as my gmail account has multiple.
Is there any other email app which supports this?
Because the gmail app in general is quite basic otherwise
