First of all thank you for being such and amazing community. So I had my note 2 for a month and I loved it I had bought it out right at best buy. A friend of mine had one too and he was switching to att so he convinced me to return mine and buy his, it was a good deal, his was already unlocked and rooted.
This might sound strange but I have really gone to love stock, which is really weird since I;m coming from a nexus and flashed like twice a day, I have been trying to a find a flashable zip thats pure stock. I dont want any tweaks, just stock plus root, thats it. im running mean bean which is very close but I lost the stock quick toggles, I have read that I cant do an ODIN flash because im unlocked, I just need to know where a fully stock rom is, hopefully 4.1.2 also, thanks so much
Try scotts deodexed stock rom, thats what I've been running for the past month.

You can Odin. There is a guide stickied in development section. In that guide the are also 2 options on the file to use, a stock with locked boot loader and an unlocked version.
I believe you'll lose root with both but from that same guide get the exynos exploit app and root it again. Then download voodoo root keeper and take the ota.
Or finally in the development section again there is a stock rooted and deodexed flashable. Or like the other guy said try clean ROM.

I have a galaxy note i717 which I rooted and flashed to onlyone (oneonly?) ics rom. I wanted to know what my options were to put a better rom on or go to a jellybean rom. I've also considered going to stock ics and rooting. It came with gingerbread originally. I'd like a recommendation including ease of the process in doing so. This is my first android phone having come from an iphone4. I'd jailbroken my iphone but this is more complicated process, especially in the restoration of the stock os.:cyclops:

Read and reread everything and dive right in. Well, maybe not dive. Everything there has been backed up by tons of research and trial and errors. Check it out and don't be afraid to ask any more question. Me personally, I enjoy CM10.
Flashing stock ice cream sandwich is no different than flashing any other ROM. Making it look like its never been flashed is a different story and isn't a necessary requirement to using the stock build which dagr8 had been kind enough to post in the development section. He even has a debloated version so you don't have to work to get rid of the carrier garbage.

Hello again all, I just have a few questions about rooting my sprint gn2 before i get started. I have found several instructional guides through xda (thanks to all that post them would be lost without ya!) however i am concerned because i am running the new updated version that some of these methods may cause me some issues. I suppose my question is most of these guides were made quite some time ago, and this update has only been around a few months now, is it safe to follow for example this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9zF6x1MURM&hd=1&list=SPwCVKEYxr_z7FBQYT32dbYw_kdSJmSDH2Do I need to revert back to a prior update somehow? I have searched for a few hours now and there does not seem to be much information on rooting the device after the latest update. Looking forward to running custom roms thanks for the help.

Thank you, I had read about kingoroot and am sure that is the route i will be taking (as it is my only choice) however would i still be able to backup using twrp? will i still be able to flash custom roms? these are really the only two things i care for doing.. and running root only apps like titanium backup but that is a given. That I'm not sure. You would no longer have unlocked bootloader and I always thought the two ways to have custom recovery were if bootloader was unlocked or via a safestrap method. You would have root so I'd check and see if recoveries exist for sprint note ii after this root method of 4.3
I believe you would be unable to flash a new rom/kernel as they require a custom recovery to do so, and with out a unlocked boot loader you wouldn't be able to get a custom recovery.

Okay guys so I got my S4 for Christmas as an upgrade from an S3. I love it. Its a beast and it is just amazing. Here's my problem, after a bunch of head scratching and reading, I finally found out how I was supposed to root it while running the latest jail cell of an update, MK2. The only thing I did to my phone is root it. No custom recovery or anything. Now that the android 4.4.2 update is coming soon, I really want to update to it, but obviously I can't just take the OTA when it comes out, so I need to go back to stock, no root, nothing, the thing is I have no idea how to safely do it and I have very bad dyslexia so keeping track of all the threads that tell me what to do is impossible for me. Can someone please give me a simple step by step on how to do go back to stock? And where I can get the firmware from?

My recommendation would be to search the Samsung website for an MK2 Odin.tar stock firmware image for your s4. If you can't find it there then I recommend looking on XDA for a no data wipe MK2 image. Once the OTA hits for 4.4.2 touchwiz KitKat I recommend you wait for the devs to find a root exploit for it. Or if you don't mind spending a few bucks you could buy super su pro and enable root survival mode and it keeps root over an ota. But I'll see if I can link you to a non data wipe stock MK2 image.

Please understand that currently there is no way to root KitKat on bootloader locked devices.
Yes, you can restore a no-wipe MK2 ROM and return to stock, then take the 4.4 update when it's rolled out, but you may be stuck on stock for good if you do that.

Ok i just rooted my s4 using saferoot im on 4.3. Just got the phone and did not update. Im wondering whats next as far as installing a custom rom. Im new to Samsung devices and a lil confused. I want to run roms if i can and get updated to 4.4. Im a noob with samsung, im coming from the htc one which i had rooted with the boot loader unlocked.
Alright so... Since you're still on 4.3 you have a ton of options. Because our boot loader is locked you can only really use things based on TouchWiz. But one of the cool things is you have a crap ton to chose from. Now that you're rooted what you want to do is go to the safestrap thread and download that. Just read the op it's rather straight forward. Then you have choices. Most people then create "slots" using safestrap. You can change the sizes so that you have more space for the rom and what you will download as in apps. Then find a ROM... Like hyperdrive or bonestock or Eclipse or anything gigilie has moved from the International s4 thread. Or what you can also do is go to the international thread s4 i505 I believe and instal those. Be sure to download older versions as they are already on 4.4.2 once you have found one you like then you find jrkruses page and install his patch for 4.3 this is what makes international roms work. Hello, not new to rooting and such but I'm a little confused. Just got this Note 2 after breaking my G2. I'm on ND7, managed to root and install safestrap. I've made a stock back up and flashed over my stock as there is no rom slot support yet. I've flashed Alliance 30 and it worked well. My question is, can I flash other Rom's like Wilson's CM12? My bootloader is still locked. Is there a safe way to unlock it? I've searched and found that if you have a locked bootloader you can't flash kernels. I think? Not trying to be annoying. Just confused. I haven't used safestrap since my old Razr days, lol. Any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance. ..

I think you can flash any rom using safestrap. The only ones I tried so far are DN3 and Alliancerom. They flashed with no problems. I would like to add on to this question though, Can I flash any mods using safestrap?
Right. Or kernels for that matter? It's strange because there's some people with unlocked bootloader's, some with safe strap, and some just plain old stock rooted (which was a pain in it's self).

Did a little more digging into the thread, basically if your bootloader is locked, the only Rom's that you can flash are those with the same build and kernel that you are currently on. So you were right. As far as flashing mods with safestrap, still unsure. ???

I'd be on the "Send it Off" wagon.
I've seen destructions for using ODIN to flash a KIES image in, and then go about fixing it that way but many many more posts saying this is impossible.
What I'd like to know, if I have to go with the same darn kernel etc, is how the everloving **** to get rid of ALL and I mean *ALL* of the crapware/verizonware/amazonware/etc and completely strip the touchwhiz down to just what I need....

Anyone know if there is a list? I was just given this phone. I rooted it, but also stuck with the locked boot loader. I did install Safestrap and did a back up, and was able to create a ROM slot, but that is all I've done so far.
Since I'm "developmentally chsllenged" (I can follow instructions, but I can't do any development work or anything) I try to just go with trusted info, which has worked so far. I just came from a RAZR Maxx HD with CM12 and am not happy with the way this phone runs.

I'm currently using Alliance, and it's decent. Nowhere near the amount of modifications as CyanideL, which is really what I want, but can't install because it's currently on Android 5.x.
Ridiculous what Samsung has done to this phone. Glad it was relatively cheap though, good lesson to avoid any manufacturer who locks the bootloader in the future.
Does anyone know if we can just flash an older version of the stock ROM? Couldn't we odin, or something, down to 4.1.x and go from there?

I have SS and did a back up, but I thought I read about people running into problems and then bricking? I think they got them back after doing some stuff but since I am no where as talented with this stuff I try to be cautious. I've rooted and SS' ed a Bionic and ran several ROM's on that one until replacing it with a RAZR Maxx HD that I rooted (and was able to take advantage of the exploit before they pushed a patch and unlocked the bootloader).
If I can just flash over the stock ROM safely, then I'll get flashing right away
I read the issues with bricking as well, but I think those people were trying to flash 5.x ROMs. I agree about wanting to avoid it though. I have a HTC One S that I saved from being bricked a few times, but I don't even wanna have to go through the process of that for the Note 2. Here's the Safestrap thread, if you're a little wary and would like to read more about it.
As far as I can tell, you should be good with flashing 4.4.2 ROMs, since that's what I did and we seem to have the same config (4.4.2 Note 2, Safestrap 3.72). The only thing I wonder is what TWRP you have. I have the latest 2.7.0.x. If that's what you have, you should be just fine with flashing a 4.4.2 ROM over the stock ROM.
