SD card data loss

Hi everyone,
I have a Siemens SX 56 (North American version) running the latest ATT WM 2003 official rom. I have the latest T-mo Radio Stack on it (6.24).
I bought a new Lexar 256 Mb SD card (32x write speed). I saved a whole bunch of mp3'z and stuff on it. The SD card works fine for some time, but then the phone seems to erase all data on it every once in a while! I searched the forums and someone suggested using "storage tools" program and formatting the card with "backup FAT" method.... I have done that too.... It has erased all data on my SD card twice after that as well..... Someone else suggested that you should exit all applications that open on the SD card (or are using the SD card) before you turn it off. I do that too. Even then I have lost all data.
My question is what can I do to correct this? Is the Lexar card the problem? Should I try Sandisk? Sandisk is actually a bit cheaper too..... I can exchange the card for that. Kindly reply quickly and let me know what I can do to fix this issue. Thank you.
Just had it happen to me on my SX56 using WM2003 Beta and a SanDisk 512mb card. Lost everything. Thought it might be the card but now I'm wondering...
Gonna try and replicate the problem.

some time ago I had similar problems with Lexar faulty card, but that seemed to be somewhere explained in that forum that ultimately it has been not card problem but .... wm2003, hehe
I know it sounds strange ..... if I can manage I point you to the right postings .....
regards, monika
ps. I have solved termorarily my problem by simply locking SD card  and then after changing Lexar for Sandisk problems stopped
Bpd, there is a hisory of spontaneous formatting of memory cards ever since WM2003 came out, it wasnt just confined to XDA either, I saw a few posts in other pocket pc forums with the same problem, some people put it down to installed themes.

Use the little white switch on the side of the card to lock it!
Also its been reported that if you label the card after formating it you wouldn't have this problem. Personally I'd do both!
BTW whats the time frame on the erase after you did the upgrade?
HTH
Problem occured same day as upgrade... and now last night again.
Fortunately I made a backup of everything on the SD to my PC and have now just restored it.
I did not "label" the SD this time... just "locked" it.
See what happens this time.

Another SD card problem thread...

Had the device for a few weeks now. Randomly the sd card was dismounted. No biggie, was able to mount it with a remove/insert or reboot.
Suddenly today it isn't possible to find, mount or read anything from it.
Can't read it through an usb-stick in the pc either. So the only possible reason is either a bad sd-card? Or the hero destroyed it?
Edit: This was a none branded 6 class 8gb. So my advice is to stay away from the bulk cards.
Back up all your stuff - which fortunately I had done
Exactly the same thing has happened to me 8gig class 6 etc. now unreadable -- interested in the reponse / cure suggestions from others on the site.
Well, well. I have a 16gb Sandisk card. Has been running perfectly in a Touch HD. Now is running in my Hero.
Turned on the phone this morning and it wants to format it. Lost alot of my photos so now I am worried.
This has never happend to me before with a quality card
If you can format it, it will still be accessible.
This has just happened to me. 8gb class 6 unbranded card is not recognised by the phone so I can't format.
It has happened in the past, but i could format, or restarting fixed it.
Any ideas, will trying over and over fix it?
My new 8gb trendmicro card keeps on unmounting after a couple of minutes. Any idea whats wrong? Faulty card or hero bug?

Same happend to me today with a ScanDisk 8GB class 2 card
Possibly it's a specification/compability problem, perhaps something related about hybernation specification.
I have two Nokia SDHC 8G cl6 absolutly incompatible. When the phone going to sleep, at 3-4 min sd is unrecognizable and megacrash ... A2SD is very unstable and when I had formatting all with FAT32, crash with bad structure file system in hybernation mode, loss data,......
The Chaos.
I will try with Kigston 8G cl6, I have good references about on it.
NOKIA never more...

format ur SD card..
if that doesnt fix.. i need to know brand name.. and what class card it is..
does it show up as the correct size in the stock rom?
Try just attaching it to your computer via reader. If it still shows 14GB, try and format. If it still shows 14GB, it's defective (or fake. Did you buy it from Hong Kong via eBay?).

My class 10 card is working just fine...
My class 10 works fine too. It is a 32g Sandisk, it reads 29.81g of total space on my phone and my computer. It seems like the photo galley loads faster and scrolls through the fullscreen view pretty fast. The read_ahead_kb file reads only 512. I haven't tried any other values because i am very happy with the card.
Well to be honest i'm not sure what class it is.
It was in another phone that my dad gave me to sell on ebay. I just kept the card that was inside.
It's a 32GB Sandisk.
I'll try a partition program tonight on my computer si if it fixes it.
If I try to partition it via the Clockworkmod, the lowest I got was 10GB and the max I got was 14.77GB depending on the settings i choose

Use a formatting tool, like the one HP has (see here) to format the disk. It can wipe the full disk and create a single partition. It could be that it was split previously for some reason, causing the issue you have.
If I put back the microSD in the Samsung Focus and format it, it shows the 32GB on the card (37GB with internal memory)
and then I take the card out and put it in my Fascinate and it shows 13.94GB
If that makes a difference i'm on Cyanogenmod 7. Maybe it's the OS limiting the space?
Any idea about this issue?
Format the card with a low-level formatting tool, like the HP Format tool. It's likely that it could be partitioned, or has a partition table that isn't setup in a format compatible with Android.

[Q] 32GB SDcard not doin well with Neo

Hi there guys.
I have an xperia neo.
I got a new 32GB sd card. I first tried it on a nokia n8 phone and it worked really well... video playback, hd recording, music playback and more..
Then I put it in my neo, formatted it from inside the phone, then I copied a rom zip to it. I went into CWM and didn't accept installation of the zip.. it said (bad) installation aborted.
After lots of research, I put my old 8GB card into the phone and installed the zip from it, and it worked like a charm. After that.. I put the 32 GB back into the neo and transfered a couple of movies to it. When I created a new folder and copied the movies to it,... they didnt appear on the phone and neither did the folder they were in.
So I copied them to the root of the sd card and tried to play them with "rockplayer lite", "mxplayer" and "Vlc". Only one video played well (RM format) while all the others didnt work (AVI format 700MB movies).
Also tried "1.5GB avi movies"... didnt work. "MKV movies"... didnt work.
I thought it might be a codec problem or something like that, so I put an old 2GB card in the phone, put movies on it and tried... they all worked :cyclops:
I am really confused right now.. cuz this is my first android... I used to have an iphone, but I sold it and got this one cuz I heard it would be a lot better to have an android. btw, my iphone was 32GB, so I liked this one to be 32GB too
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.
I also using 32GB MicroSD SanDisk Ultra. It works fine on my Neo, everything can be run and installed.
It just does not fast like their said write up to 10MB/s read up to 300MB/s =.="
You may need to try use the 32GB on the other phones to see it works well or not..
Try to format it using SDFormat utility (google)
& check again, maybe its due to bad formatting ?
Who Manufactured this card and what class ??
I use 32Gb A-Data Class 10 couple of months now and had no problem on 2.3.4, 2.3.6, 4.0.3, 4.0.4.

i assume a bad ' Format '.
i used this tool for formatting the card with W7 64bit !
http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
make sure you run this Program as ' Administrator ' with W7 !
!!! this Won't work with XP !!!
and here's a mini HowTo, maybe it'll help.

my advice, Don't buy any kind of ' Cheap + NoName Hardware ', even if it says ' Class 10 ', etc... !

have you tried to format sd from recovery?

Try to format your MicroSD from your Neo.. There will be a different format your MicroSD from PC and from your phone..
Mine, works fine. I just found when playing .mkv file using MX Player sometimes the sound lost then I've set the player to be hardware render but on some(or maybe all) .mkv video it will change back to software render, I found the sound lost only when on software render. But I don't think if it caused by the MicroSD..

In my opinion the best tool for formatting your as card is the sd card format tool from Panasonic.
It offers special options for sd cards while formatting.
Maybe an option to try.

1. DID YOU TEST THIS CARD WITH H2TestW ???????
if NO than do it ASAP you dont know who is manufacturer of this card and we dont know from where you took it, so this card can be fake if seen a lot of memmory cards that had 32GB sign on them but were 2GB cards.
So before you Format it for a million times with million tools TEST it for capacity !!!!!
And how much data you had on this card when tested it in nokla ??

I agree with xywtez. I have heard about quite a few cases like this one. Some cheap Chinese products/replicas I guess . This is the same case with some of the cheap china-market flash drives too. Hence, it's always a good option to buy a branded product from known good source.
