Effect of illuminated capacitive buttons on battery? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Like the title says,
does anyone know what the effect would be on the battery if you were to keep the capacitive buttons on all the time? (like in %)
Thank you so much in advance.
(If no-one knows, I'd certainly be willing to try it out and let you know )

Haha!
I'd just like to keep it on all the time, because I think it looks good, but hate the fact that it only illuminates *after* touching the button, although I understand that Samsung can't know when you'd like to push those buttons.
And since I hate that the buttons are so inconsistent, I just keep them off all the time, because that looks cool too, but then again when I hand someone my phone, he/she doesn't get that there are buttons present there, which means they always press them, which then again leaves me to explain that this is not an iPhone and that there are cooler devices out there who work differently.

Exactly. I am afraid it wouldn't do any good, but I was just wondering: how much faster would the battery level drain (in comparison with the default settings).

R: Effect of illuminated capacitive buttons on battery?
You can activate the always on mode in the screen settings....but u do know nobody here will actually test battery drainage times with and without the buttons always on just to make a percentage for you man?
Srsly, try it for a couple of days and ull see....but i dont see them as such a neat feature, i like much more the colored notification led which can be changed with the lightflow app

I know. I just wondered *if* someone tried it already. And if so, if he/she would be so kind to share his/her results.
I am not expecting other people to do what I just asked. What the point for that?
Then, I'd better do it myself and not bother anyone.

R: Effect of illuminated capacitive buttons on battery?
Yeah....though i think youre getting a bit...."fixated" (forgive me if the term id too strong but since im not native english speaking i cant think of anything else right noe, just take the general meaning of the word) about these buttons.
Really battery is a big problem for smartphones and the buttons arent that cool, even if they were you still press on the so u cant see them....plus its useless cause nobody cares about your buttons as long as you have that cool 4,8" (at least if i remember well) screen...

They are just two little led's, they should really harm the battery life by anything really..

Vibrant home button leakage

I've been searching on google and on here and can't seem to find a thread on it.
My home button led seems to leak half way into my display when i'm viewing a black screen.
The screen would display a black image and having the buttons on makes the home button leak on the screen
It is really annoying... Anyone else have this issue? it looks like a lightsaber on my phone...

Given where you sent this message from, I think you may be in the wrong forum.
If not, I can't say I've had such an issue, but apart from using a mod to turn off the LEDs for good, there's probably not much you can do.
i'm using my hd2 because I just got my vibrant from Samsung for a screen replacement....

In complete darkness it gets to about half of the screen. In normal light its not as bad.

Yea I have the same problem, My gfs doesnt. I think its a factory defect when they are putting it together. One little pinhole in the paint that seperates the softkeys from the rest of the screen and boom, you have led glare half way up the screen.
I had 3 vibrants replaced an they all had same problem but I dont care buttons are off most of the time
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I have this problem but it's very minor. I barely see it when dark. Do they just give you a new vibrant for replacement? Were you able to force them to let you do like an upgrade to a better phone or something?
no they replaced the chrome bezel and the housing + the display and glass...
It's practically new now..

Same exact thing here. The home button leakage is on most(if not all) vibrants. But it's only noticable in near or in pitch dark really. Using 2.2.1 roms turn off the lights while not being used but for some reason, that particular build on whatever rom always decreases sensitivity to the point where going back to used applications(holding home) doesn't work while the processor is being used extensively(800-1ghz) which is REALLY annoying. Anyone else by chance?

Since doing the work it too much, Ilm sure they instead give you a refurbished vibrant and used your old one for parts. In other words, Samsung didn't repair anything for yours but gave you another vibrant(which could be using parts from various sources).
It's the same imei and the same way the home button leaks... I also have a minor scratch on the camera which mine still has

Display unstuck from body :(

Hey guys,
I dropped my phone the other day from 50cm on wooden floor (i have tpu case on it) and noticed that the screen is now a little bit up from the body right at the bottom right and I have now light leak from the back bitton ((
Screen is sticking out like 0.5mm
nothing major I guess, but was wondering if someone has taken their baby apart and knows if this is easily fixable? I guess it's just the glue, doesnt stick to the screen anymore, but not sure
Any suggestions appreciated, thanks )

Put a small, removable sticker over the light sensor on the top of your Rezound?
You can always get them to our come on, on demand, by placing your thumb or finger over the light sensor.

The ineffibilis gingerbread rom has the option to keep the lights on. ICS roms have them on all the time I think.
There's an app called keyboard backlight. It lets you keep them off or on all the time

well I'm not rooted so the only fix I see above is the "tape" fix or the "cover censor if you need to see them" fix.

I was using the mik tweaks in the inneffabilis ROM for this, but you have to reselect it every time you restart.

Blocking the sensor works, but...
I just tried putting a small piece of tape over the sensor and found that it works. The red buttons always stay on regardless of the ambient light conditions, however, during a call the screen will no longer go dark so that your ear, cheek, etc are no longer prevented from inadvertently clicking on anything. Obviously the sensor has a double duty.

Extreme Nitpick Alert! You were warned!

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone here could confirm a small, miniscule, almost-non-existent issue I found with this beautiful device. The left (Menu) touch button seems to be every-so-slightly faded compared to the right (Back) touch button. I haven't been able to find any pictures, or take a picture of mine (no camera around at the moment) to show what I mean. It's almost ridiculous that I am spending my time and energy in typing about this, but I would just like to know if this is normal and not something that is unique to mine. Besides, I think it gives it a bit of a personality (like Nemo and his fin).
Unique to yours.

Not even sure what you mean to be honest.
Do you mean the light is dimmer?
I haven't noticed any issues in any case. I don't think I'd really care. I'm more inclined to worry about signs I've used it! (microscopic scratches that you can't see from anything but the most obscure of angles etc.)

And using the front camera to take a picture in a mirror won't work because....? Use your imagination.
I'm not actually endorsing that (though the front camera is actually not bad, so it could work with enough light), and I'm sure that's not what was meant by that post, but if you're gonna be a **** about it...

Well considering the problem is one button is slightly faded compared to the other and the lackluster FFC, I wouldn't assume that would produce anything useful. I said a picture with clarity.
It was an honest question. Obviously he can use the FFC but he is talking about something so slight it likely won't be captured with the FFC.

About that post anyway, I'm just hoping whoever (s)he is, is trying to make some sort of sarcastic statement about semantics, since the original post said "no camera around" as opposed to "no other camera around". I'm hoping that's what the post's intention was.

yes this is an issue and it also exists in my phone. i got my first S3 and it had lots of glue marks on the screen and the menu led was placed a bit above where it should be causing its light to come on the screen from inside of the scree. i got that set changed with a new one and now rest of the issues are gone but yes the menu led is a bit faded.

Has anyone else noticed that when they have full brightness enabled it seems to use more battery power even when the screen is off
Obviously I realize there will be higher consumption when the screen is on
But how can this effect the screen off time
