[Q] Phone ovearheating and flashing. Need tips - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys i recently bought an Galaxy s2 from a friend of mine. After few days of usage i realized that my phone is too hot near camera and display is hot upper side. Next thing i realized is that battery doesnt last more than 8 hours if my total gameplay is 40 mins and browsing internet with wifi not so much. Anyway the phone is rooted and has Siyah 6 i think with touchpad and i have made a factory reset but it does same. The phone uses android 4.1.2 , baseband i9100XXLS8 , KERNEL 3.0.31-889555 [email protected]#3 SMP PREEMPT Thu jan 31 KST 2013 , Build number JZO54.I9100XWLSD. Ok so i have read some forums and many ppl said that is getting hot from software and 4.0.4 ice crem sandwich is better. Now my question is :how i get back to 4.0.4 or what`s a good custom rom for my s2 . hope its not a hardware issue. P.S : it,s getting hot when i use 3g , wifi , games , playing to phone,s menu , etc. Sorry for asking this but i am a noob. hope you guys can help me. Thanks

To be honest what your doing with your phone it's bout right batt last 8 hr. 4.0.4 keep clear of this as has brick bug in it. I'm on what it say below and mine would last bout the same playing games and that. Phone dose get hot.. I changed to custom rom cuz of heat problem witch I fine is to do with the kernel. But don't change that much anyway.

i think is Siyah 6 or smth like this .

Re: [AllianceROM][V7.02][15.03]LSD-Color it your way-Over 40 Options in Custom Settin
Dell is not Siyah. Are you sure it's rooted? Look for app on playstore to see if it is properly first. Look for root on playstore or something like that

sorry my bad . i press vol up +home+ power and it.s philz touch 4 cwm base version 6.0.2.8

Install roms to int sd card and follow the rom install guide. Read through neats thread ask some questions about installing there. Either way looks good to me. I'd go with alliance but that is my choice you have yours . Just watch what your doing if your not good at this. Back up before any thing in cmw bk up your efs now. Bk up bk up. Bk up rom you have now as it works if you mess up you can go bk to this. Most if the time. Take a copy of bk up onto pc or extra sd card not in the phone. Bking up now is very important.

To make a nandroid backup, just boot into recovery, go to "backup and restore" click "backup" and thats it, it will start backing up.

ok so i need to make backups now with kt tool cwm and other one . where i find alliance rom now ?

That was the hard bit for me. To get to 7.2 you have to download 7.1. I had to download from different person as my phone wouldn't do full download of zip. Look for alliance 7.2 thread.

[Q] Home button works only for Recovery menu

Hello,
This week I bought an used SGSII for only 50€ because the home button doesn't work.
I don't think that is is a hardware issue, because I can enter the Recovery menu with VolUp Power and Home.
No Root/Custom Rom. I installed most recent FW via OTA, still doesn't work.
The preowner said that the issue came with an earlier FW Upgrade.
Because the button works for the Recovery menu, I think that this a trivial issue.
Can somebody here help me to fix the button?
I had the same problem....just re flash any stock firmware wth full data wipe and you ll be good to go

Flash a 4.0.3 fw then you will be safe for the brick bug. It's only in 4.0.4 that has the bug.
Or flash a custom kernel then you will be safe for sure.

so, I managed it to downgrade to 4.0.3 and did a factory reset via recovery menu, and then I wiped cache, still not fixing this problem.
That is very odd. Maybe flash dorimanx kernel and see it that fixes the issue.
If not, then I suppose you can flash a rom that has a nav bar.
Edit: but do not flash kernel/rom in stock recovery. Use temp recovery Here http://db.tt/MxD7F6xg BTW it's touch recovery

I tried with installing cyanogenmod 10.1 so I allready had CWM, nothing.
tried with dorimanx kernel, nothing.
So I will go back to the most recent stock rom and make everything with the back button.
If somebody knows another solution he/she can answer here or PM me.
Thanx to everyone who tried to help me.
It would help if you gave info on specifically which S2 you have. What is EXACT model number?
Can you provide pics of device/model details etc? (cover IMEI/Serial).

I made another try with a Low Level Flash (3 files + PIT) of GB Stock Rom without luck.
Are there any things that will not be changed/deleted with such a Low Level flash?
Does ICS allready contain this Onscreen Buttons or do I have to wait for JB(Wanna stay with Stock Rom)?
Try this :
Flash clean Official 4.0.4
Install Siyah Kernel .
you now have root. make an EFS backup * Always to be safe
Recovery- wipe all +dalvik
See if it worked
If not after doing the above steps
boot into recovery and flash a custom ICS rom- Try SLIM ICS *As it will download fast due to small size
On a side note, on your current firmware do you have the lockscreen ?

[Q] [i9100][CM10.1][JB]Formatting /emmc and Flashing CM 10.1

Hey there,
I would like to format the /emmc folder through CWM. I am currently running CM 10.1 and I would like to remove all the junk I gathered by constantly switching over ROMs. I want to know if what I'm pursuing is safe given that I have the emmc Brick Bug.
Also, how do I flash a ROM after that? I suppose that should be in the external SD card and I would flash it from there without rebooting after the wipe. I actually found a similar question on XDA but I didnt't find one for the international version of S II and I wanted to make sure that I don't brick my device.
Get gs2 nuke rom zip from lovely people of xda. Also nuke kernel script try them safer

Make a Nandroid backup to your external sd, and also put the zip-file in there to flash after formatting everything. The brickbug only appears in 4.0.4 stock recovery, and only if you have an insane chip.

There are zips on here 'xda' so before you install rom or kernel it cleans that area for you. Nuke as in wipe out. Nandroid as in hole system is saved. Apps teams the lot. Not just a rom. Better?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help me get back up to 4.0.4 and is it okay to sell now?

If it works and you don't want it sell it. Why bother with it? Why did you root then unroot ? Lucky you didn't brick it. Well I don't no maybe not luck more a judgment. If you want to keep it odin stock firm wear on it.

Have to start somewhere I think it's fun well is to me. Best bits are were you have a problem and ma little heart starts beating bit to quick. I ent in any way professional but I'd say either sell it or if your going to keep it... Flash 4.1.2 official firm wear to it. Look for thread starting... Going back to total stock. If you want to keep it that is. Go on keep it have a play but do read read and read some more.

Download a firm wear you want at sammobile. Take zip and tar "compress to get zip" and copy both onto pc and ext sd card take bk up of efs folder as well. Then you be safe ish. Follow steps and you will be OK. Good luck.

I needed to make my phone look virginal again myself the other day.
What i did was: While it was rooted I let "triangle away" work its magic and after that flashed the newest rom that is out in my region via odin. Afterwards i had a phone that wasn't rooted anymore, flash counter was back to zero, there was no more yellow triangle and it had the appropriate Rom on it.
So in your case you may want to first root it again and then going through those other steps that I outlined here.
Was gonna say have to root it bk to do the nandroid. Forgot to say that bit. and bit tired lol

Dorimanx looks good, but i still got an SOD yesterday evening! Currently running on 'battery' profile, but are there any STweaks settings that might mitigate this?
Also, is SOD a problem that ALL i9100s suffer from?
Mine is under warranty and i have thought about returning it, but, from what i've read, Samsung will most likely just downgrade the kernel. As i do not want a phone running a stock network rom on ICS, i'm trying everything to avoid sending it back.
Yes you must tune to you liking. Sods are a prob but with time changing setting in stweaks you can have a solid kernel. Rootbox is a funny rom. Me I take of hyper and put on intdemand. Setting it up phone each one is dif. But that will help I think.

Thanks, i have a feeling it may be time to move on from Rootbox. How do you find Alliance?
Search for alliance thread on xda. Download 7.1. 7.2 is an ota update in 7.1. Download is on first page. Then once installed pick from stock or aokp. This is a kick ass rom

Screen dosent work at all? If its not coming on and you havent changed any thing in settings or some thing like dropped it the screen is dead. How did it stop working?

this happened first, it kept getting blue then eventually the blue turned black. Now my screen is completely black. the screen works, i can receive call, notifications and all, but i just cant see whats going on. i dont know if its screen burn, sleep of death, virus or i should just have the screen replaced
Most probably its a hardware issue with the screen.

In case anyone's interested, dorimanx didn't work, nor did any other kernel. So i reverted to stock and sent back to Samsung for a warranty repair. They claim to have upgraded the software, but the firmware is exactly the same as it was before i sent it! I can only assume they have no idea what is causing it, and are trying to pretend they've fixed it.
Yep that sounds like a Samsung authorised repairer (unfortunately).
Wow this look like black long ****
