[Q] Help! Samsung GT I5801 boot Loop on cyanogen mod 7. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So yesterday I finally tried to install a custom ROM on my Samsung GT i5801 phone which previously ran Froyo. I didn't know much about ROMs and its my first time so i tried to use one of AOKP ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1548627 ) I don't know why but it wouldn't install using CWN v.5.0.2.8 and I tried to do it anyways using ODIN. It kinda flashed it but it never worked. It destroyed my stock ROM and I didn't have any backups.
Then I found a Cyanogen mod 7 ROM for GT I5801 and I installed it on my phone using CWN. It installed fine but keeps boot looping. I tried everything after that. Clearing cache, Dalvik Cache, and even tried to re-install the ROM using the wipe data/ factory reset and installing the Cyanogen zip file, but it still boot loops.
Can anyone tell me of a solution, please?
Any help is welcome.

My friend, just ask your question in galaxy 3 forum. There is also guide, how to flash rom.

Um, I tried finding the Galaxy 3 forum, but I couldn't. Can you please give me the link to that form?

Try wiping everything on the phone including the system, then pull out the battery, reboot in download mode, and then flash a stock Rom on your gt-5801. This should bring you back to a bootable Rom.
Now repeat the process of rooting and installing cwm/cm7

Boot back into recovery, wipe phone, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, restore stock ROM again.
Should work ok now...I hope!

Then I have no idea buddy. I encountered the same problem when I flashed CM7.1 and tried to restore stock firmware. I gave up in the end but I was led to believe that wiping both caches would alleviate the problem. Hopefully one of the developers will read this and have a solution. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. Good luck =]

it's not possible to flash back stock rom backup after flashing a cyanogen.
its because CM7 coverts your file system from RFS to ext4 which your stock rom is incapable of.
Try to use CF-Root found on android development section, convert your file system back to RFS using Ext4 Manager (which you can find after flashing CF-root) then flash back your stock back up. This should be work.
ok...still waiting for other comments...

Use english kabayan. For others to understand too..
Try to flash first Sangingerace*Lite (depending what FW version you are using). I believe you can convert your file system with patch provided on that thread.
The simplest way is flashing a full package firmware using ODIN, then flash cwm and restore you backup.
Hey bro, I think the problem might be that while backing up from cwm your backup might have been crammed into your sd card due to lack of space. This happened to me also I was stuck at the SGA splash screen. So I tried clearing caches and wiping the phone to no avail.
But as my last resort I just flashed my phone with CORRECT firmware through ODIN. hope I helped!
Please update me.

Unable to install CyanogenMod 7 again!!!

Hello guys,
I would have not made this post without a reason! I have searched the froum and used google for over 2 days but dont have a solution for my problem that's why i opened the thread!
My SGS2 was on CyanogenMod 7 and i decided to try the leaked version of 4.0.3 (I9100XXKP8 to be exact) so i preformed a full backup via recovery!
After this i flashed 4.0.3 using ODIN and used it did a root on it and istalled CM9. I did this just to see the real difference between the 2 firmwares. Everything worked great i had no problems at all.
After i was finished playing around with the firmwares i decided to restore my CM7 backup! I had no problems booting into recovery and the restore worked fine! no errors or anything. After i selected to reboot my device i got a Kernel Panic and couldn't do anything!
So i flashed KI3 stock from sammobile and rooted it via CF and then again i tried to install CM7 which goes fine through the install no errors! when i select to reboot the phone i have the ''Samsung galaxy s2 screen'' in a reboot loop! I reflashed the phone again with KI3 and tried again i followed the instruction step by step including wiping data/factory reset and wiping cache the same thinghappens. I tried to restore the CM7 back which i made, the restore process goes through but i get a kernel panic! So i reflashed KI3 again i thought it could have been the bootloader... i got the old boot loader and flashed it but i keep getting the boot loop! The strange thing is i can flash CM9 and it works but CM7 will not install on my phone at all! I have tried flashing it 10 times in the last 2 days.
Can anyone help me fix this and get back to CM7 because i dont know what to do anymore my flash count went from 5 to 39 in the last 2 days!
Note: i have tried using recovery and RomManager neither of them work! Also tried Stable CM 7.1.0 and nightly builds!
Try this and then restore again:

Hi,
i have tried this now and i am still getting a reboot loop! So it dose not work at all :[
I'v had the same problem. It was solved by flashing the .pit file for cm7 with odin.
That is very strange. I assume that you did a factory reset after that procedure?

Yes i reset everything there was i did this whole guide step by step about 20 times tried everything! i even had help from the guys working on CM9. They couldn't help and told me to open a thread here :[
Well, the pit file is probably the best bet then. Good luck when you get it.
By the way I meant a factory reset after the kernel clean and restore.
Kernel clean -> restore -> factory reset.

I have tried this still no luck :[ Also tried previous back ups but the are not working either. I also tried to flash Villian rom 3 now and the only thing that happens it stays on ''Samsung Galaxy s2'' screen no reboot or anything for bout 10 min. tried to go into recovery but it isn't working :[ back to flashing KI3 again!
Which kernel were you using when you originally made that cm7 backup? Was it the stock cm7 kernel or perhaps siyah's? The kernel panics are probably due to using a cm9 kernel(recovery 5.5...) to restore a cm7 backup and then using cf-roots ki3 kernel(recovery 4.2...)to restore a cm7 backup. I'd try flashing siyah's kernel(recovery 5.0...) through odin and then try to restore that backup.

Now i have also tried to do a fresh install of CM7 with the 5.0.2.7 recovery but it didn't work! I would be great full if anyone could help me!
Boot into recovery
wipe data/factory reset
goto mounts and storage > format system
install cm7 from sd card, then install it again right after
reboot
If this doesn't work throw the phone against the wall because this should work, unless flashing those bootloaders messed something up, or you flashed the wrong one.
as a last resort....
flash stock firmware.
flash cfroot kernel
try to flash cm again.
always works for me.

Help. Won't install roms from recovery

Has been trying to install official CM9 nightlies and some other roms but installation aborts. Did wiping cache partition, wiped/factory wiped and dalvik cache wiped 3 times. Did everything I knew but nothing seems to work. Been rooting and flashing roms for G1's, N1, G2X, nook colors, atrix 4g, HP TouchPad. Just sold my touch pad and just rooted this galaxy wifi 10.1.
Help please...

Maybe look if the zip isn't corrupted and try using clockwork recovery to flash the rom ?

Did you try flashing clockwork recovery using rom manager and then trying to flash the rol using that ?

You need a new version of cwm. ClockworkMod 5.5.0.4, or this one (both should work) recovery.tar.md5 (ClockworkMod)
Also, this question has been answered many times, try using the search function and check the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Development forum.

Weird issue when flashing to CM9

Hi,
I downloaded from here:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?dev...laxys2&type=RC
the file:
cm-9.0.0-RC2-galaxys2.zip
Went to recovery mode, chose install zip file, chose cm-9.0.0-RC2-galaxys2.zip and flashed it, rebooted the system and nothing happend, the phone took me to recovery mode again.
Where I was wrong ?
Thx.
Which recovery are you using? If it's not ClockworkMod Recovery (I should say any custom recovery) you won't be able to flash any custom ROM.

I do have CWM 3.15.
No idea why it didn't flash, and I flashed A LOT of roms including RR 2.6.1/Wanam and more.
I just wanted to feel CM9 on my phone but with no success, any ideas ?
Cwm 3 seems a bit old. Latest Siyah (which I'm currently running) has Cwm 5.
Maybe you should try with that.
Have you done ALL wipes that are necessary?

I did all the wipes, in fact I forgot to mention that I had RR 2.6.1 and after I did all the wipes I flashed to CM9, after i flashed it, I rebooted the device (since nothing happend) and only then, I saw I have a different CWR! - Yea the device booted to recovery !
I tried to flash CM9 AGAIN (with the CWR 3), it said done/completed, still nothing happend, I rebooted again and it came back to recovery, AGAIN.
Only then I flashed to Wanam 12.3 and after that to Siyah - so yea NOW I have CWM 5 and everything is working great.
I still have absolute no clue what on earth I am doing wrong ?!
I still want to flash to CM9...need all the help I can get !
No one knows if there is a solution for this issue ?
Right now I am on Wanam 12.3 rom with Siyah Kernel 3.5.2, and I want to flash to CM9.
I go to recovery do all 3 wipes, choose the zip file flash and it says 'completed' but nothing happens.
This isn't the first time I am flashing...never happend to me before!
Experienced users please do write your thoughts.
Thank you.

So you think the problem is ROM related, the RC2 version ?
I'll download the file, and this weekend will flash via: recovery -> install zip file from internal after the 3 wipes.
Btw, we are talking about this file correct ? :http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/jenkins/5572/cm-9-20120805-NIGHTLY-galaxys2.zip
Basically the procedure I mentioned above is correct and everything should work, right ?

Try downloading the resurrection edition (about halfway down the the first post): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20841817

[Q] Installing CM9 On My Galaxy S2 I9100

Hello guys,
I've just bought a new Galaxy S2 I9100 (Android 2.3.5).
It's already rooted (got CF-Root 4.4), and I want to install cm9.
I've read a lot of articles and tutorials, and i'm confused a little...
If I just want to install the latest stable cm9 release, all I need to do is install the zip file using the recovery mode?
Or I need to use Odin and do some more steps?
I also saw some users say I need an ICS boot, and i don't really know what to do.
Thanks!
Yss, you can install it through CWM Recovery. It doesn't necessarily need an ICS Bootloader.
Cheers!

Just continue with my steps below.you don't need to flash anything through Odin
General steps before flashing a new ROM.
1. Backup your present ROM just incase
1. Wipe data/ factory reset
2. Wipe cache partition
3. Wipe dalvik cache (under advanced)
4. Format /system (under mount)
5. Flash your desired Rom/zips (cm9 in your case)
6. Fix permissions (under advanced)
Notes:
- If you are moving from from an AOSP ROM to Samsung (vice versa), perform all the steps above.
- If you are upgrading / downgrading from one android version to another e.g ICS to jellybean or 4.0.3 to 4.0.4, also perform all the steps above.
- If you are upgrading from a Samsung ROM to another wipe the same android version, you may skip step 1.
- if you are upgrading your Aosp/aokp Rom with another with the same android version e.g 4.0.4 Aosp to 4.0.4 aokp, you may also skip step 1.

Ok, I installed the cm9, the phone booted up, I set up all the setting, checked the new system a bit and now it doesn't responding :S
I just entered the settings icon and didnt touch it, and the phone turend off.
I turned it on, and im stuck in the opening window (samsung galaxy 2 sII gt-I19100) with the caution mark.
What to do?
Flash the zip file once again. Sometimes, the 2nd time does wonder.
Note: wipe dalvik cache, wipe cache and fix permission also.
If that didn't work. Do take out the battery, wait 3 minutes, put it back in and turn on the phone again.
No guarantee it will work. I am just a guy trying to share what I have learned so far.

Did you do a full wipe? Usually when you come from GB or stock sammy rom and flash cm9/cm10 directly without wiping, it will be stuck in a boot loop.
Edit: As the guy above me said, do a full wipe (factory reset, cache, dalvik cache) and flash it again, you'll be fine.
Edit2: If all else fail, flash the cm9 resurrection edition. Follow the instruction posted in the OP.

Ok guys! thanks a lot
My phone seems to be working just fine!
I'll sum up the steps, maybe someone would need it:
1) I started with a rooted S2 I9100 (android 2.3.5).
2) I installed cm9 using recovery mode (Jokesy's instruction on first post)
3) The phone booted up for the first time (after the instllation), then crushed and didn't boot again.
4) I installed cm9 resurrection edition using Odin and download mode (the instructions in the first post of CM9 thread in general section)
5) Then did step 2 again.
6) works fine!
