S3's text selection method really sucks. First off on the google home page if i write something in the search bar and then need to add something else i drag the cursor to the end but either the keyboard disappears or it gets dragged only to the letter before the last.
Also to copy or paste stuff i have to go looking on the top of the screen (or bottom) for a copy/paste bar, only rarely do i get the popup copy and paste buttons. And it has no screen magnifier for precise selections.
What im looking for is something like apples selection: popup buttons for copying/pasting/cutting DIRECTLY CLOSE TO THE TEXT (not somewhere else, cuz in some apps if youve already scrolled down the bar will disappear), and (a less important feature) a screen magnifying thingy so i can stop the cursor just where i want it to.
Basically i need to replace all of samsungs copy/selection thingy with the blue arrow-cursors, anybody knows how??

Hi! I've an answer for you!!
The popup you're talking about is called OptionsMenu. In framework-res.apk, under drawable mdpi/hdpi, there are two PNGs, named menu_background.9.png and menu_background_fill_parent_width.9.png. The 1st one stands for the popups in setttings, and other apps. And the secon stands for launcherapp, etc. Change these PNGs with your's...................
Hope it helps........

tap the text screen and the blue cursor arrow pops up, just move it and use back space
Hi,
Thanks for the revert mate.
That is the current mentod that I am also following up. But is there no solution, where word to the right of the cursor can be deleted?
Like you might have seen in Blackberry. And it works well on that platform.
Is that the petented technology and thats why not avaiable on Android?
Seniors - Plz advise/comment.

Anoop

Hi all newbie here and did a few searches and tried to look for help but could not find right info, also I hope I am in the right spot to post so please feel free to tell me if I am not in the right place. Currently running ICS 4.0.4 up-to-date at time of writing on Vodafone Australia but I don't think the country of service provider is the problem. I have a problem with my 'Home Screen Dock' NOT THE 'Lock Screen Dock' I can change icons on the lock screens no problems, All the help, forums and videos on changing the 'Home Screen Dock' Icons say to simply drag, drop[ and replace. All i wanted to do is change the stock "Internet" Icon with Chrome. Dragged the internet icon of and went to drag the Chrome one on but I can't as instead of the dock staying visible like on some videos it changes to the Delete Icon option. Cant find settings please help. Also I do not want to use a 3rd party launcher. I tried Apex and do like it but I use widgets and can't use widgets as my phone is not rooted. Please help arrrgghhh. Thanks in advance.
PS . I just have a blankspot where my internet Icon use to be.
Go into your app drawer.
Menu>Edit
Drag the Chrome icon down to the dock.

Thanks for your reply but I have tried that...the dock area only changes to for different Icon that you can drag your chosen icon onto in order to perform a function. these are from left to right "Create Folder" "New Page" "File Info" & "Delete"
Have you tried to hold on the Chrome Icon in the App drawer and put it on the home screen, THEN drag it to the empty space on the dock?

Yes I have and I get then get the same options expect it has text with each one i.e. *Icon with text"Create Folder" * *Icon with text "New Page"* etc
Has to be a step you are missing. I just tried it and it's working fine.

THanks for your help.... OK so here is what I do.
1) Unlock -> touch App Draw Icon. (Icon that says Apps with 16 little white squares)then I am on my last page/screen where I have a lonesome Chrome Icon.
2)Then I touch the Menu button (the glowing white button left of the physical home button).
3)Touch Edit (from the pop up menu *Edit with the pencil icon next to it)
4)The Page now has <::: Edit |Cancel|Save along the top of the screen under the notification bar. and no dock or anything at the bottom except for 6 . . . . . . white dots which represent my 6 screens.
5) Touch the Chrome Icon and drag downwards, but as soon as I press and hold the icon to drag at the bottom of the screen 4 icons appear that represent the function I described in my previous reply.
Please tell me I did something wrong. It should be so easy. Thanks btw.
1. Click on the App Drawer Icon
2. Press and hold on the Chrome Icon (that will move it to your desktop)
3. Now find it on your homescreen and press and hold it and drag it down to the empty space on the dock.
That's all there is to it.

Have you found the solution?
Hi,
I'm having the same problem, I was wondering if you've found the solution.
Also, since recently I'm having chrging problems with my S3 - sometimes it will charge, sometimes not - USB or Wall charger.
I tend to think these problems were introduced with latest software update.
I did factory reset, but problems still there.
Cheers.

TouchWiz used to allow me to follow the earlier procedure (it's how I docked "Maps" icon). This was back when I could also just drag and drop icons on the pages at will.
However there was an update from my telco (Telstra) and after that TouchWiz (as version 4.0.4) no longer allows changing of the bottom 'docked' row of icons. Even dragging and dropping icons generally is disabled it now requires use of the context menu to select "Edit page", first. The problem with that approach is that edit mode hides the dock row and replaces it with the icons "Create folder | Create page | App info | Delete". See attached screenshot.
So now I'm stuck with the useless blue-globe icon forever showing on my page, instead of being able to replace it with the very useful Chrome icon. Maybe Samsung did it accidentally (are they even the ones that develop TouchWiz?).
PS: If Micro$oft blocked the use of an alternate browsers, there would be loud screams of monopoly and anti-trust...
i to am also having the same problems, i am running stock Samsung Jelly Bean OS with a touchwiz home version 4.1.1. hope someone can find a way to fix this and to get our freedom back in it

Apparently this problem only effects Galaxy S4 GT-I9505
I found this solution:
you need to have root access (which is available on the xda forums)
you can unlock the dock icon edit function by going to /system/csc/other.xml and find
<CscFeature_Launcher_ReplaceHotseatAreaInEditMode> TRUE</CscFeature_Launcher_ReplaceHotseatAreaInEditMode>
Tried it using ex file explorer editor but nothing happened, restarted the device and the setting had reverted back to its original state, might have to do an adb push but the adb version I have installed is apparently outdated (keeps telling me the device is offline) so I'd need to update adb first
If anyone can give it a try to see if it actually works on rooted 4.2.2 with stock touchwiz, it would be really appreciated

Tons of thanks! :victory: Works great on GT-I9195T 4.2.2! Now, four left docked icons on homescreen could be moved.
Sorry to be such a noob after all these years, but there is this tab thingy on the home screen with a few app shortcuts in it that just is in the way. I can figure out how get the shortcuts removed, and how to move the tab to different sides of the screen, but how do I just get rid of it? I don't know what its called or I would search for an answer, and I don't see any mention of it in the manual. I just want to nuke it. How?
Long press the back key, lower right soft key.
It's for your multi Window apps.
You have been thanked! :victory:
This only removes the tab, if you aren't going to use multi-Window the pull down the notification and swipe left to scroll the toggles and disable multi-Window.

Is it just me or is it kind of annoying that because they left out the menu button from the phone they now need to show it at the bottom of the screen for apps that depend on it being part of the phone??
Kinda seems like the iPhone 4 to 5 issue where the app only takes up part of the screen and the bottom is left to show that stupid menu line...
Couldn't that have made it horizontal instead of vertiacal to take up less space and make it more appealing???
/rant off
With custom roms there may be a fix to that. I also think it's annoying but don't worry soon enough it will be fixed depending on what Rom you put on your one. Hope this helps

You have to have the app draw open and move it there and you should be good to go.

Ready for a bit of an annoyance? You have to do it from the App Drawer. Even more annoying? You have to move it out before you move another one in, otherwise you get a folder and you have to open the folder to remove the original (in other words it doesn't swap the icons, just creates a folder with both)..
Also - it is a bit annoying not having a menu button. Modaco's framework will allow you to long press back (or double press, don't know for sure) for menu. There's also work being done on a custom kernel which makes the HTC area on the capacitive button sensor another button for menu. There's also this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191626) which was done for another base (doesn't work on ours, changes some other things in Settings that shouldn't be changed and didn't seem to enable to setting - which leads me to believe ATT went further out of their way to remove it then some others), but I'm looking into the changes that were made to bring it to our base too. (unfortunately simply toggling the method always on didn't worked as I'd hoped, but suspected)
I've already shared a build.prop modified to remove the 3 dot menu bar, but this leaves you without a menu in some apps which is a little annoying. Hopefully I'll get long press back for menu figured out though for att's stock rom.. if it's uber important to you, most of the int'l roms already have this incorporated
Thanks for the information on how to remove the app from the bottom menu bar. I never use text messaging, so was quite annoyed by how it was always stuck in there. I put Viber in place of Text message app.
The lack of menu button and wasting more space on the screen for that function does annoy me too. They should have just make that HTC logo a soft button. I don't think they can add another button on HTC logo with a software though.
There's already a custom kernel available that has madebthe HTC logo a third button
