[Q] DOES DESIRE X SUPPORT 720p VIDEO PLAYBACK IN JB? - HTC Desire X

Please help
i just want to know that does htc provides with the 720p video playback in the new jellybean update?
And why the phone lags 720p video playback (by using 3rd party appln like mxplayer, moboplayer...) even though it has the hardware requirements more than wat is actually required, in its current ICS rom?
Does the phone support 720p video playback if rooted to custom roms?

I made few quick tests after JB update and:
1. No, It does'nt play 720p videos (tested with some videos recorded by Desire S).
2. Same videos tested with mx player (last version) and decoded HW plays OK.
I had not tested videos with higher resolutions or large dimensions...

Does it plays 720p video without any lag in mxplayer using hw decoder?

maybe ill look stupid, but i have to ask... why everyone wants to play 1280x720 video at 840x400 screen? Even if it worked, it would be the same (or worse in my experience) than proper fitting video...

Me for example... I have a lot of video clips recorded with my wife's phone which are 720p. I do not want to convert them every time I want to watch them.
And yes... I didn't notice any lag on that movies using mxplayer HW decoding.

Hello pls help, I have a set of HD videos with me if the device supports 720p playback I could play it on the device directly otherwise it would be a headache to convert it in to lower resolution.
thanku.

Ok listen now
1.This phone CANT play HD video cuz the processor DONT support HD resolution...No way to play it
2.Processor can record 720pix video but the phone cant play it so from HTC will not allow to record HD vide on this device.
I dont know why HTC make that , maybe is just a trick to buy HTC one x other high price device.(SG S3 mini have 1GB Ram,5 mpix camera - Record on 720pix+Front camera and is on the same price- SG3 mini i think is equivalent to Desire X.)

But other phones with lower spec and price like HTC one v can record and play hd videos(which has only 1.2 GHz single core processor & 512 mb ram against 1ghz dual core s4 play processor & 768 mb ram of HTC desire x)
My doubt is that, desire x was able 2 play hd videos of high bit rate in mxplayer but with some lag(in ICS), Does the playback of hd video is smooth( ie without any lag) in its new firmware update to JELLYBEAN.

I was w8ting so excided about jb cuz i think i can play hd but... :/ And full sence...

no I don't think so. And it doesn't make sense as our screen resolution is 480p.

You're right dear, but I was taking with respect to HTC . as being a manufacturer, it doesn't make sense for them to add such support. I don't know any HTC phone of 800x480 resolution in which stock kernel supports 720p playback. It is always the xda devs which layer on added such features to kernels.

My last phone was Desire S who has stock ROM (RUU downloaded from HTCdev) and it records video at 720p and it has 800x480. Now my wife is using the phone and video clips recorded at 720p on Desire S ARE NOT played on my DX!
I tried MX Player and it plays that videos without lag... For me is OK! I didn't tried other movies, videos on other resolutions and so on because I don't have time for that...

no hope for 1080p?

hi guys
since I see the videos uploaded on youtube, unfortunately the quality of video in 720p is very poor, it is the fault of youtube?, I see more in this sensation, we have no hope in the future for video on this device to 1080 p?
For me to have a good quality video is very important.
I do not know what to say. Depends on the video, although it is 720p, there are many factors that matter in sharpness.
I say it's youtube, I have some videos and I can say the video looks far superior on my device..

My camera hand isn't exactly good unless I'm using 2 hands, but It was meant to be a test for the average user so I did
The difference between 1080p and 720p is irrelevant on anything under 50"
The video either sucks because you are not good at recording and correcting your settings appropriately or YouTube compressed your video,
Ima say YouTube compressed your video...
P.s. or the phones camera could suck..

[Q] HD Video Playing on Gingerbread

Hi all. I recently updated my international Atrix to Gingerbread using the CWM file provided by NFHimself. Unlocked BL and rooted it.
I decided to try the new 1080p video playback with a video captured from youtube through Keepvid but the playback is exactly the same as before update. Wht could be the problem? Probably in the video captured, right?
did you change the setting in the youtube app to play high quality on mobile?
You want to play 1080p o 720p on the Atrix, you search "handbrake converting" on these foruns. Even on GB update, the phone STILL cant play h.264 high profiles.
Sometimes, this makes me regret not waiting 2 months for the S2....
Patience young padawans. Fix your problems cm7 will.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
CM7 will allow us to watch high profile x264?
I think its a hardware limitation.
tegra 2 supports h.264 main profile fully but high profile only in 720 6 MB/s
That's what I thought.
People seem to think cm 7 will fix everything.
it's just another rom as far as I know. it may have better hardware support than most and more developed features, though.
Its not that big a deal. You're going to want to reencode anything 720 or 1080 anyway to save on storage. So just use baseline profile whilst you're at it.
I guess though it sucks if you want to use hdmi for a portable media centre

720p and 1080p Mkv Playback

Hi there,
Please some one can help me how i can Play 720p and 1080p .MKV movies smoothly with my Gtab 10.1???
Because with a simple samsung galaxy S 1GHZ CPU is possible to play a 720p MKV movies smoothly no problem, but the Galaxy Tab have Dual Core 1GHZ TEGRA 2 with 1GB ram, and not have to possibility to play it, i don't see this normal
Short:
- 720p: h.264 [email protected]
- 1080p: h.264 baseline

Agree.. 1080p is overkill for 10" screen .. you wont notice any different compare to 720p .. plus its such a waste storage

Yep. I am all new to this but I noticed 1080p is overkill as well. I am running at 720p or BDrip x264 in 2gb to 4gb and detail is perfect. I converted most of my favorite movies to 720p and running with latest dice player. No issues whatsoever.
Cool, thank you.i will also try the dice Player when i am at home.

To anyone saying 1080p is a waste... of course it is on this device.
But people store their videos generally with 1 copy in the best quality. So I need to be able to watch my 1080p videos, even though it's overkill, because I'm not going to re-encode another 720p copy and store that somewhere. I'm going to store one 1080p copy.
What puzzle me is that I can play 1080p mkv using the built-in player on my SGS II without any problem.

MKV is container not codec. MKV can hold virtually anything...
Some 1080p can be played, some NOT, it depends what inside is.

I use handbrake. Depending on the source, but for the most part, I make sure the width is 1280px. I set the quality to 21, baseline profile, and then convert. My friends say the videos I've converted look great.

Handbrake is the shizzle.
so, is video the only reason you bought a tablet? I don't watch movies on little screens when I have an HDTV at home. I typically have a drink in one hand so holding my tab in the other would get old. Tab runs great for everything except 720 and 1080 movies apparently. If you want to watch movies on the go, by a portable blu-ray player, not a tab. Tegra 2 runs great! Tab runs great on task's roms BTW!

Been using MX Video Player with the codec pack for Tegra2. Switch it to the SW decoder, and it's not perfect but pretty good.

Its not really fair to say "buy a portable blu ray player". Samsungs site says it can play 1080p, which in some cases it can and cant. Most of the time it cant.

[Q] Play 720p Video using MX Player?

Hi,
I am a Classic Desire owner and also author of several roms for bravo. I was planning to upgrade to Desire X as it looks pretty good to me.
I know the compromises:
1. Camera video = 480p limit
2. No compass
3. No front camera
But the only thing which concerns me is, i have a collection of 720p videos, and i want to transfer it to desire x once i get it, so do i have to convert all of them to 480p via some convertor/? OR i can use MX Player or other market app to atleast RUN the 720p videos ???
Please i need feedback. I know playing 720p on 480p display is serving no additional purpose, but still i dont wanna convert all videos which i download on my pc.
Thanks

I think as far as the DX's hardware goes, it's perfectly capable of playing 720p and up. I tested 480x352, 480x360, 720p and 1080p clips in different formats and both streaming and from storage. Streaming, in Youtube app, I havent seen any problems like out of sync audio/video, lagging or hickups. From storage, a lot depends on the media player and on the clip format. MXPlayer will play a 720p (and higher res) clip in FLV format perfect.

Classic desire wasn't able to record natively at 720p but some kernel Dev found a way to do it. I'm just surprised DX Dev hasn't kicked in properly as its a great device ( not flagship of course).
Anyways What about people complaining of random reboots? Is it only rare or many have noticed?
Reviews are generally very positive and I don't care about NFC and front camera. The s4 play dual core is among the lowest performer in its class, but if it beats a gnex, that's fine by me.
Compass is a compromise I have to make though. Other than that it's all fine.

Yea, more so because you can pretty much count on the Desire X getting updates to JB and full sense. The NFC and front camera are no problem for me either, I don't see myself doing video conference calls on my phone lol. Some people have said their phone rebooted randomly, but I don't think it's a general problem when you get the rooting right from scratch, use the right apps and don't try to freeze essential system apps. If you root just unlocking the bootloader, flashing the CWM 6.1.0.5 that's available, then busybox and SuperUser 3.1.3, you're good. No reboots here.
As to the performance, I think these Quadrant tests I just did, say enough.

Unfortunately, compass is a huge drawback for me. Yesterday for example, I had to use the GPS while I was driving, and it took me a couple of secs to understand my direction on the road...
Other than that, I have to say that I like this device, and as a Desire user (for the past two years), I have to say that it was an upgrade that worth every single Euro...

From my own tests, a lot depends on the format and the media player. I have to say I'm not very impressed by most of the media players for Android out there. Even the beta VLC for my old iPhone 3GS was better. Hardware wise the Desire X is good enough to play them, like you say.
Tell me if you find a way to watch the 720p videos without any delays or slowdowns thank you all !

Just watched 720p mp4 video of Superbad movie with mx player. Works perfect and no delays slowdowns whatsoever. I'm 99% sure other 720p videos will work too.

720p videos lag in my dx too... How did u guys get it working..?
The lag is due to a bad sdcard, if you buy a new one I think it'll work flawlessly.

I have a god sd card (Transcend 16bg class 10) and it lags, simply goes out of sync.
Lag is definitely there..Even a simple Video song do not play properly.
I have to convert them to see it.

That's weird, I can play LOTR full HD without any lag with MX Player. But I just got a new sdcard, something like SanDisk class something, I don't know.

I think the Desire X is perfectly able to play 720p, it just depends on the clip, your own setup (background apps,..) and the media player apps out there. I just watched a 720p clip in mkv format without problem. I run V6 Supercharger which speeds up my phone a lot though

Why do HD movies lag and any possible fix for it?

I just hate the Sony tablet s for one reason the stock gallery app is pathetic when it comes to video playback so to make matters better I use the mx player which has served its cause pretty well ,it is the best available video player but still the tablet has hard time running 1080p videos and also 720p .Before the tablet s I possessed the blackberry playbook which had similar specifications and used to run high res videos like a charm . Is it due to poor software optimization or is there some other reason ? I'd truly appreciate if anyone can help me in this case

Its Tegra 2. It was always bad with videos. Blackberry is other system don't compare it. Tegra 2 is too old. But 720p in MX player is ok.
