[Q] Cannot install add-on dictionaries - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey
I'm using a Galaxy S i9000 with the custom rom SlimBean 4.2.2 (version 3). I really want to try out the gesture typing, but to do that I need a dictionary, which in my case is Danish.
I go into the keyboard options, click add-on dictionaries. At first danish doesn't show up, but after a refresh it pops up. I click on it, and choose "install". After a couple of seconds, without touching the device at all, it now says "Installed" under the Danish dictionary in the list.
I then exit, and try to use the dictionary, but it doesn't work. I go back into the settings, and it's not installed anymore.
Can anyone help?
TLDR version: Tried to install a Danish add-on dictionary, shows as installed in the list after a couple of seconds, but actually didn't install.
The solution was to install a new version of Gapps and install LatinIME.

[Q] problems after upgrading to Foloimod v.1.4

Hi there,
After upgrade my Folio thinks it is a model SGH-T849 ???
Now I cannot use my apps Documents to go (full version).
Can anyone help.
Is the v.1.4 the latest??
Regards,
Per.
this is because dexter changed the name in the build.prop to make the folio appear as a samsung galaxy tab on the market and for other apps. it should basically work fine. try uninstalling and reboot and reinstall the documents to go apk.
ps a backup of all user apps as apks is very usefull before major updates!
Thanks,
I do have a backup made with the Android Optimizer. The thing that worried me is, that it is saying "unsupported model".
I tried and it worked great. Now I only need to figure out, why the Danish language has gone.
I can do English, no problem but it was nice in Danish.
i guess language is changed according to system language. setting system default to danish language then reinstalling will probably get u the danish language u want
It turns out that Dexter put an "more local" apps and here it can be chanced.

[Q] problem with Rom Illusion-xT v1.3.0 - XWKK5 2.3.6

does this rom support chinese input?
i have flashed this rom yesterday and i try to text my friend in chinese, it shows "message may be corrupted on recipient device. change input mode to automatic"
but i cant find automatic in language input menu.
is there anyone can help?
There's no Chinese input, but you can download google pinyin keyboard from the market. As for the warning when texting, just ignore it, I can still send Chinese SMS fine.
1.4.0 is out too

[Q] Phone Setup Wizard questions

I've installed a custom Rom [Chaos] without a keyboard, and then flashed my favourite keyboard, Swiftkey, via CWMod.
During the Phone Startup wizard, this keyboard wasn't active, so I had to skip all the steps.
One of the steps was entering your name ("for personalising the phone").
I've gone through and manually configured everything else, but I can't find anywhere to enter my name in this way.
Does anybody know how I can configure this?
just curious - why do yo need it?
This is normally Security > Owner info (I think)
Just a note, I would not recommend removing the stock keyboard or launcher. These are essential for fall back if something goes wrong. Even if you're flashing a keyboard to /system/app, it's best to keep stock handy.

Cannot download most of keyboard languages.

Hello there,
I am using S4 Revolution V12 right now,but the problem exists from V7,when I installed the rom for the first time.
When I navigate to settings -> Language & Input, and going to add Greek for example alongside English an error pops up saying "Download Failed."
I get the same error for most of the languages, the only ones that I can get is Spanish,English (UK),English(US),German and some more.
I have tried deleting keyboard cache and data.
The rom is fresh installed so I haven't done any settings that conflict keyboard.
Please help.
Thanks in advance,
S.

No keyboard?

So I rooted my HDX 8.9 with towelroot, had superSU running and successfully turned off OTA. I checked the root and it was successful. I go to download ES File Explorer and discover the keyboard doesn't work. Any idea how to get it back? I tried unrooting and doing a system restore but now I am just unrooted and still have no keyboard. Any idea what to do?

Download google keyboard, go to settings then language and keyboard then keyboard language, find the language that says Automatic, check mark it, find the language English (US), CHECKMARK IT, find the language English (UNITED STATES) make sure it has a check mark as well. Now go to a web page and try to pull up a keyboard. If it does not come back up try unticking the language called English (UNITED STATES) but leave English (US) ticked. If that allows google keyboard to run you will need to then download other apps to make google voice to text operate. Shout out if this works and I'll try to link you to the apps you need. The nav bar will get in the way of custom keyboards so you will have to do away with it as well.
This is all a part of a highly complex beating that Amazon gave Android to destroy it errrrr I mean customize it......

Hmmm good point lol. Try to do a side load from PC maybe? If you have a bluetooth keyboard try that, if not go to settings, language and keyboard, keyboard languages , make sure automatic and English (United States) are ticked. Despite these supposedly being languages they also control the keyboard that is enabled as well. I know, not like android menu at all but its true. If both of those are ticked then the default kindle keyboard should be enabled. Did you do anything other than root? Install exposed? Change build prop?

The languages are unclickable for some reason, I think I may be screwed haha.
Also, I didn't do much. I installed the ADB, SuperSu, rooted, and blocked updates

When you uprooted and factory reset did you 1 unregister the device before factory reset, 2 unblock OTA updates? If not I'd suggest you use the root tool in the device section to re enable OTA updates, then go into settings, my account then click deregister, next go into settings, device, factory reset. Next turn on the device and re register the device. Not deregister in before resets has caused me a problem a time or 2 as well as odd behavior when ota is blocked. Specifically language settings. Let us know what you find out after you do this. Also if that does not work try resetting from recovery by turning off the device, hold power and volume up until menu pops, reset.
Hmm, I see the option to disable the updates but not restore them

Hit 5 (more) on the PC keyboard in the root tool menu and then hit enter. It will then display enable OTA update, check if rooted and back to main menu
Ah okay, I found it. Unfortunately the problem did not go away.
Now I am getting the adb server is out of date bug for some reason. I didn't even do anything new : /
