Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 16 GB with rooted XXELLA stock firmware, 32 GB SDCard. I use Spotify to listen to my music through a Soundwear SD10 bluetooth headset.
The built-in MusicFX (1.4) equalizer works fine and I can tell the difference in the sound quality for a couple of days, then, though the MusicFX app seems to be still running, the sound goes back flat (not equalized). When this happens, the On/Off button on the app makes no difference to the sound and the only thing I can do to fix the problem is to reboot the phone. Bear in mind that I may turn on/off bluetooth and headset several times during the 2 days period mentioned, and play/pause/resume songs in Spotify as many times.
In order to try to prevent a reboot I have tried to stop/restart, disable/enable, clear data, cache, etc. for MusicFX to no avail. The funny thing is that I have tried a few other equalizers (Equalizer, the "other" MusicFX app, etc.) and all of them suffer from the same issue: they stop providing equalization after 1 or 2 days. I have also tried Awesome Beats and the ported DSP Manager from Cyanogenmod but they just do not work on my S3. I have alerady reset my phone to factory defaults, cleared data/cache and this problem persists through the various firmware upgrades (I had XXELL5 originally)/factory resets, etc.
I use the Spotify widget and also the latest JKay Deluxe settings/framework, which helps me keeping Spotify in memory (otherwise the widget renders useless when I try to resume a playlist after a few hours). I cannot add MusicFX to the list of "protected apps" in JKay as it's not listed in the app drawer.
Has anybody come across a permanent solution for this or a similar problem?
Thanks in advance.

Hi thanks JJegan. Any clues on how to replace the MusicFX apk? To what version, etc?

Hey guys, i've been having some problems with the stock music player that came with Kyrillo's v6.0 ROM. It crashes at random times when playing music or surfing through it's interface without any "Force Close" prompts of any kind. Just crashes.
(This problem is only with the stock player, rest of the apps work perfectly)
Tried all possible kernels with different clock speeds and still no result. The problem seems to be with the stock music player that came with Kyrillo's ROM.
So is there another music player app that has the similar UI in terms of how the songs and artists are displayed? I've tried a bunch of music player's but all of them have the same folder structure UI. I want a player that displays all the songs by the particular artist and not like this:
artist\(each individual album)\(songs of that album).
try this
Did you try wipe cache from recovery, Im sure thers a fix for this. its not a big issue. you dont have to look for other music players.
Yeah well after trying "everything in the book" and also doing a factory reset and cache wipe, i encounter the same problem! please has no one else experienced the issue?
try this too
Im surprised no one gave any suggetions.. Look, Iam not a dev or expert , but i can tell you its not a big problem. which ROM are you using? Did u try everything in the book including:
1. Formatting your sd card
2. Re-flashing ROM
3. Try different Kernel
4. Change the allocation size of your fat32 partition to a smaller value like 128. sometimes high values cause problems.
Look, if it were a hardware issue then any kind of 3rd party app should not work.
1. Yes
2. Lol this was done a thousand times for obvious reasons so yes. Tried every possible ROM (stock and modded).
3. Same as no.2. Tried around 9 different kernels!
4. I'm not sure if that would help at all.
This is something to do with the hardware outputing the sound. The time i bought the mobile phone with the 2.1 eclair stock ROM, it was working perfectly with no sound abnormalities.
The first time i installed a custom ROM i noticed the problem and it was so annoying that i downgraded back to the stock 2.1 eclair. But unfortunately after that the problem still remained no matter what ROM i chose. It seems like there isn't enough power to drive the earphones at the instant when the screen is turned ON or OFF. It stabilizes after that.
It's like a few milliseconds of a cracking sound. The same sound you experience when putting your earphone plug into a speaker jack or sound jack. A static cracking sound.
Someone on the forum said it was a kernel issue and that it would be fixed. I thought most people were having the problem with the current kernel. But any later releases didn't fix the problem. SORRY FOR THE LONG POST, and if you or anybody could please help me out i would be grateful
well, i guess theres nothing much left to try then, If it's still under warranty, then i suggest flash a stock froyo or eclair firmware, go to nearest samsung service centre & hope they fix the issue. (fight for it if you have to). I fought for my battery replacement (last day of my six month waranty!!) & got it too!
k will have to do that i think cause this is very annoying. anyways thx for the replies.
Hey together. I'm a noob *duck* - but I did quite some search on google and on these forums before posting, and I'm not a very stupid noob.
Today I got the situation that no audio is audible any longer from my browser, games, audio apps, or from an audio player (all of them previously worked). This is the case for headphone and also the built in speaker. The problem occurred very likely after using skype. I also still have audio in phone calls and also I still have sound for ringtones and other alarms. Handset functioms all still work fine.
The first obvious thing I did was checking volume settings in the android settings. There I moved all sliders - the one responsible for regular audio did not give me any feedback. If I use the volume buttons on the phone while I'm on my home screen I get audible feedback - but that doesn't influence my problem.
Funnily the sound in skype still works. More funnily: during skype calls the audio from my browser or the audio player is also audible (I tried this just out of couriousity as I suspected Skype to be the cause of my problem. Et voila - I got sound from a TV News page and also from the Walkman app while the call on skype was still running. As soon as the call in Skype ended the audio from browser and adio player got muted again.
I also tried to kill skype during a call in order to kill it before it can again mute the audio - No luck. as soon as the skype app is killed also the audio from audio player and Browser vanishes.
I also tried some audio apps - all have the same issue of having no sound.
I then tried different apps which control volumes - without any luck. So at the moment I don't have audio, except during skype calls.
I guess that skype has either access to some hardware settings which aren't used usually (I hated skype for things like this as long as it had existed) - or I'm missing something very obvious. Or something else. Does anybody of the developers here know about linux settings I could modify? (is there something like alsamixer which is only possible to access via jni or similar?)
// Edit:
Just found out that toggling airplane mode ON I have sound for media (audio player, browser). (but also lose the ability to use my cellphone and network). As soon as I switch back to airplainmode OFF also audio is muted again. And for sure - I also tried rebooting in different states of my phone quite often without any difference.
// Edit 2:
looks like I found a workaround but no permanent solution - I installed an app SoundAbout (free app) recommended for similar problems in an other thread: 89996-galaxy-s3-media-volume-stuck-mute.html (I have now put output permanently to "headphones" for media sounds. However as soon as this setting is reset to the default (let app decide) it is muted again when airplane mod is set to off - looks like an other app resets it? (could not find any app obviously doing this though as I stopped the usual suspects)
I still suspect Skype as the original reason for this problem as I just recently had it updated when the problem appeard and it also messes with this kind of stuff during usage (and I don't really use other apps dealing with audio except of browser, music player which weren't updated for a long time).
Maybe also of concern:
It's an sony xperia p, running Android 4.0.3 and it is currently rooted.
I have a problem with my rooted Galaxy S3. I'm running CyanogenMod and all of a sudden I noticed that my music would only come out of one ear. I tried my headphones on my computer, and they work so it isn't the headphones. I decided to play both Google Play Music and Apollo at the same time, and then it works. I can't just use one of those apps, I have to use both. Then I tried Pandora, it only comes out of one ear. Is there a setting I might of accidently hit that would cause this?

Hi guys! I have a certain and little weird problem. I updated ovet-the-air to the latest 4.1.2 with baseband I9300XXEMG4. I have sales code XEO which means Poland. I did a factory reset so everything is clear and the problem is the following: when I listen to music over the headphones (from the speaker there is no problem and I also tried 4 sets of headphones, so it's not a headphone problem), and enable the equalizer (only on apps with 5 band equalizer, not apps with 10 band eq and I tried the following: google music, zplayer, playerpro, n7player and mixzing and only mixZing seems to work properly -I don't know why) and start turning up the sliders, the sound lowers instead of getting louder. I also updated the S3 of a friend who has German Firmware and he experiences the same problem. Does anyone else that updated to this version has the same problem?
bumping for answers... :fingers-crossed:
any updates on this?

I have wiped the phone it didn't work. I have flashed stock ROM it didn't work. I think the problem is the Music FX system app which controls the equalizer. There must be a problem with the app and the MG4 firmware. But the fact that nobody else reports this problem makes me anxious. Although on another forum someone said he had the same problem, he sent it for service and they just installed the previous firmware, which means they don't even know wtf the problem is.
Try an older Music FX apk
I tried newer FX, older FX and nothing. I finally rooted it and flashed dsp manager and now the MusicFX plays normally (I don't know why!). but the problem is that I don't want my phone to be rooted and I don't know what to do to make music FX play normally when I am on stock. very weird software problem and I don't know why nobody else have it...
Remove root now see if DSP still works .

I have the same problem, ever since the last update in Australia, the equalizer stopped working and when sliding the sliders upwards the sound lowers, had this issue for a few months now and it's unbearable.
My galaxy android phone with OS cm11 is stuck in headset/headphone mode(but only for music applications). Calls incoming/ringtones are played from the speaker. The problem is the phone doesn't play music/video files from the phone speaker, it plays from the headset instead. This particular problem arised after trying to test the Spirit UI FM.After providing the superuser permission, the application crashed( in cm11 ) and after that only headset mode .
I have been using SoundAbout for now to fix it. But I want to the OS fixed/patched in itself(not depending the soundabout app). I have tried rebooting/firmware reset/downgrading to cm7. But none of them are working. Thanks in advance.
U must try an app on play named HTC HEADPHONE FIX, made by HTC, but works on other devices too
I fixed my Samsung Galaxy Core 2 with that same thing
U must give it a try and then tell me it worked or not
