[Q] Facebook App Login Failed - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I have recently installed Facebook Application for my Tablet PC. It is working on 2.2.2 Anroid version and Facebook app version is 2.3
When I enter my info it says that Login failed and that the operation timed out (after I hit the Login button, the error appears after cca. 15 seconds).
I am using pretty good Wi-Fi connection to connect my Tablet to the internet, so I don't think that it's up to my connection. I tried already with clearing data, uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling, but it didn't work.
Any solution?
Thanks in advance!

More info : I cannot open Facebook in my browser either. I can open the main page, but when I login, it won't completely load the website.

Goto app settings and clear data.
It could be a bug you might want to wait for an update.

I did it, didn't fix anything.
I figured out it might be because I cannot open m.facebook.com website on the browser, while I can open mbasic.facebook.com
Weird.

[Q] Facebook sync - There was a connection error while attempting to login

OK, I searched for this, saw some posts but without any answers.
I logged in once and when when I logged out my FB account, there was no way for me to log back. All I get is famous "There was a connection error while attempting to login".
Is that a server error, a temporary problem or I gotta do something?
Thanks!

I've found it to be a temporary problem when setting up new roms, usually i turn off the data connection then turn on wifi and retry it, seems to work 9/10
It's an old question, but since this was the nr 1 hit on Google when i searched for a solution to this problem, I'll post my solution here.
The error message is pretty cryptic, but it's actually an authorization error. You have to give the program (FBTab) access to your FB information before it will work. This can be done via Menu > Settings > Facebook API. The internal method didn't work for me, but the browser method gave me a nice 'Allow'-button to press. When you get a clean page with 'Success' in it, your FB tab will login as it is supposed to.

can u be more specific?
ru referring to on the cellphone - where can i find the setting for " Menu > Settings > Facebook API"?
the odd thing is:
i can NOT login with fb account#1 - "There was a connection error while attempting to login".
however, i created another new fb account just for testing purpose and i am able to login with this fb account#2 with no problem.
the only difference i can think of is that i changed my contact email address for fb account#1 once a while back. i've never had any problem login with the updated email address in the PC browser. but i can't login with my touch pro 2 using either the old email address or the updated email address.
what could be wrong?

[Q] Unable to connect to Android Market

I'm on stock 2.2 without any Root. I can't connect either to android market or to any google apps like gmail, gtalk etc. There isn't any issue with my data plan as i can browse the net and using twitter and Facebook flawlessly. As i am newbie in this android bandwagon i don't know if it is required to have any specific configuration for google apps and market?
Gmail
I think you have to register your GMail account first to use the GTalk & Market app.
ya i tried to register in the market app via handset.. popup shows it requires to have around 5 minute to connect to google server..then error message showing that cannot connect to server..It may be an issue with my operator? but then i can browse the net and use FB and twitter.
" can't establish a reliable data connection to the server" this is the error message poping up while i tried gmail, gtalk, and market app.
Wi-Fi
If you get the chance, try using Wi-Fi first just to register your GMail account.
My issue is solved...this is what i did:
Settings-accounts & sync then ticked the auto sync option..
Now every thing working perfectly...

FC com.google.process.gapps

Hello.
I'm using stock rom, rooted and installed CWM, the phone works fine for a few days, then it freezes for a while and shows "process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
I can 100% reproduce this by opening stock browser and browse for about 30 seconds, then it freezes for 10 more seconds, then shows FC.
Several times the phone rebooted itself, but not exactly all the way, there was no ATT and Samsung logos, everything went black for a minute, then everything started loading like it just booted.
Anyone else having this or similar issues?
I get this also. Only had one reboot. I'm stock. Maybe that's my problem!
I was using Chrome when this one happened.

I was having the same problem on a stock, unrooted phone. I was able to determine that disabling the "Internet" item in the sync settings for my google accounts made the problem go away. Re-enabling it almost immediately causes the FC problem to return. That item seems to be toggling the syncing of bookmarks from my desktop Chrome browser with the phone browser, which I can do without.

Running stock all the way for now. Same issue. I installed Chrome, disabled sync for internet in my Google account as mentioned above, and enabled sync in the Chrome settings. Better browser, better experience, and no more FCs.
Same here - stock but rooted. Fortunately disabling internet sync fixed the FC issues.

I forget where I found the solution but here's what I did to fix the same problem.
1) Go to Settings > Accounts and sync
2) Remove your Google account
3) Go to Settings > Application Manager
4) Go to "All" tab
5) Find Google Services Framework and open it
6) Select Clear data (for Google Services Framework)
7) Go back to Accounts and sync and add you Google account
That solved it for me.

Hmmmm assuming you have internet synced, try open built-in web browser, will it give you FC?

Please help! Many bothering stuff when I connect to internet!

Hello,
My phone started behaving strange, but ONLY when I connect to internet.
The following happens:
1. Google Play loads. WHY ??? I DON'T WANT IT TO!!!
2, Some app starts on the notification bar - the icon is like a star. Once I click on it, it starts opening some page with the browser.
3. I'm getting a notification about software updates.
4. The startup page of "Internet" - the browser becomes some strange web page. I have configured a BLANK startup page. When
I launch the browser not connected to the internet, it shows me a blank page and it doesn't try to open anything. But once connected
to the internet, the startup page changes !! Is that a virus / adware ? How to get rid of it?
Thanks for your help!
OK, as nobody posted anything, again I'm asking the questions and I am answering them too Just in case that somebody ever has the same problem.
To stop Google Play from popping up, just in Accounts, disable all the synchronization options for the google account.
The problem with the home page was solved by clearing all the cookies, browsing history, etc. from the browser.

[FIX/SOLUTION] Facebook push notifications not working .. AGAIN (2013)

For awhile, my Facebook push notifications were working just fine until I had updated to Jelly Bean. I tried everything.. to clearing cache, data, uninstalling, and even the BlackBerry trick again (worked once before) and couldn't for the life of me figure out why they weren't working anymore. I thought maybe it was Facebook clashing with JB. I read everywhere and found out some people had no issues and some had some where every push notifications didn't work and some just Facebook.
Well I spend a day or so trying to figure it out and finally found a new, simple fix.
1) Open the Facebook app.
2) Tap on menu button on the top left
3) Account > Account Settings
4) Apps and Websites
5) Clear out Facebook related apps (Like Friendcaster or HTC Sense)
6) Clear data on the Facebook app and launch app
I noticed some off the apps in there have a push notification toggle button and I believe it was messing up the push notification system of there was to many to keep up with.
Once I spent 20 mins clearing those apps out, I cleared data and started the app notifications started working again. I didn't know it worked until someone wrote on my wall and I was shocked to see a notification!
I really hope this helps some of you out who have gave up looking for another fix.
If you're still not getting notifications, I'm sorry =(

Facebook, Twitter, Google+, push notifications aren't working in any of these apps. So annoying. I even tried re-installing the ROM and apps, but to no avail

Clear all those apps in that Facebook apps list.

Yeah, done that. Doesn't help
Sounds like all your notifications are broke. This is a fix just for Facebook while others are working.

After a whole day of looking around, here's the solution: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120318142032AA1GpzE (quote below). As a step-by-step:
1. log out of your Android Facebook app
2. clear app data
3. go to facebook on a PC and then account settings → security settings → active sessions and end all of them. (not sure if that's necessary, but it wouldn't hurt)
4. Log out
5. Now log in on the Android app and enjoy push notifications.
If you are logged into Facebook on a computer or other device, then your android phone won't sync, one way is to hit the social network widget and tap view all updates, then click on the refresh button, that is what I have to do to fix mine if I am logged into the computer, or you can just log out of facebook when you are wanting to use the phone.
This was caused by the latest update from Facebook's Mobile App, and unfortunately it affects not only facebook, but also twitter on the social network widget.

I have just tried this, along with uninstalling Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Friendcaster. They used to work perfectly. Now, they don't. I ess running the stock TouchWiz but now I'm on CM10. Could that be the problem? I will select the C2DM in Friendcaster, go through the process of entering my email and password, then nothing. It used to say that the registration was successful. Now it doesn't. I will then exit out of everything then go back in to check and the selection will be back to periodic polling.
it worked! Thank you very much!
Actually Solved
I have had this same problem for over a year now, they wouldn't work on my iPhone iPad android phones or tablets. It has nothing to do with resetting anything, clearing caches, reinstalling or restoring. There is an app that you have connected to your Facebook which has blocked your notifications.
Head into your Facebook app and click on account settings, click on the apps button and turn all platforms off. Close the app in your multitask by double clicking your home button and closing the app from there. Get someone send you a test and bam.... Notifications I never thought I would see a Facebook notifications ever again! Head back into your settings and turn platforms back on. Your apps will be gone but once you use an app and connect with Facebook everything will be there again. Worked with Cydia and all my paid apps were in my account again!
Hope this works for everyone to get their notifications back!!

If the problem is caused by an app, yes, it would. But for many that's not the root of the issue, so it's not correct to say it has nothing to do with… Anyway, thanks for contributing with a new solution.

No probs, but I have read through so many forums all having the Same problems and people always giving the same answers, restoring whole fone, getting new fone, updating software, clearing caches, reinstalling the app blah blah blah and the solution I have found fixed mine and many other devices, friends and other forums. So generally it's an app that they have connected to fb that has conflicted with notifications. Instead of going through 1 by one which I tried and everything else, turning off all then starting from scratch completely restored mine and brought it back to normal!

Hi
Found a solution that worked for me so thought I'd share here.
I was using FB 1.9.1 from an old Titanium Backup I kept on my Sgs1 and after setting up Zeam launcher and disabling some system and memory hogs like Google Play Svcs I thought I'd give the newer FB app a go.
Sure enough I stopped getting push notifications.
However rest of notifications on phone kept working, email, gtalk etc.
Then it occurred to me the push notification system might prefer to send notifications to the device rather than the account.
By which I mean every android device had an Android ID supposedly linked to the physical device itself.
I thought of this after noticing that whenever my phone should be popping up a notification that I just sent to mu account from another GB accpunt, namely a chat message, OS monitor would always show a peak of activity before relaxing again and nothing actually happening.
The rush was already happening when notifications were still working.
(I had previously used the newer fB app before and did get notifications to work.)
So i had a close look at Titanium Backup Account settings, and my Google Play store settings, and found out both were *not* using the *main* Google account my phone is linked to.
After which I set both G Mkt and Tit bkp to the right main Google account and immediately after, I updated FB app through G Market.
Hey presto, notifications came back!

I tried as you directed. Works perfect now!
cleared every app on the Facebook account I own. All notifications are working for the Facebook app.
I also used Push Notification fixer for root(there's a non root version too)

This Worked For Me
I am assuming that anyone with this problem has at one point rooted and installed Blackmart, AdBlock, AdAway or Freedom. If not this may not work for you.
I installed Root Commander then went into \System\etc and deleted the hosts file. Using lucky patcher I cleared dalvik cache and rebooted. Then I factory reset my phone and VOILA all push notifications are now working after nearly 4 months. I hope you get your phones working without having to flash your ROM.

I had the same problem, i could not receive the push notification on my nexus 4 and also on my ipad and i think i finally figured out how to correct that. took a minute. log in on a desktop browser check your email notifications: It needs to be at least "important notifications". After that you should be able to open the app and select what kind of push notifications to receive. i am sure that will not help everyone as there are different things that can block push notification but it's still something to look into.
