Hi is there a way to clean up these /0 directories who looks identical?
It add's an additional /0 directory in emulated every time I do a clean flash. Don't that use up my internal storage?
I'm using Temasek's cm 10.1 unofficial v83 + kernel but i don't think it has to do with the ROM
Is it safe to just delete these directories or is there any other way around this?

You need to upgrade your recovery application to the latest version to stop getting multiple /0 folders.
You only need one level of /0. And, yes you can delete the redundant levels. But make sure your files under the last level are copied to the sole remaining level.
/0 level came in with multi-user support in 4.2

I've flashed cwmtouch 6.0.2.8 awhile ago and the levels of /0's stopped adding up.
I've copied all the files from the last levels to emulated/0.
Then i deleted the files from the last levels except one made by a rom i had several months ago. It can't seem to be deleted because of some elevated permissions. I've tried with several Explorer's with no luck.
How do I get around to change permissions or simply get rid of former systemfiles not in use anymore?

You can try with philz recovery and aroma file manager inside the recovery, see first posts of thread.
and please search next time, this has been discussed way too much

Use terminal. Then remove the folder using the 'rm -rf' command. You may need to read up on this if you aren't familiar with Linux commands.

Back you files up to a PC, then boot to recovery and format /sdcard. That will remove all the 0/0/0/0/0/0 folders, then boot and copy your files back.

So I was trying to install an update to an app and then it said that I didn't have enough space?!?! I don't have a lot of apps and I don't have anything special on my phone. But somehow I'm running out of System Storage (Device Memory) space?!?!
Attached are some screenshots. I've been trying to find how to view the system storage contents or find its path but haven't found anything useful. What is going on with my storage? What is using so much space?
Thanks!

Could be a wifi dump file... but I was under the impression that was an issue isolated to a specific firmware release on I9100G model phones only. And your screenshots look like ICS... (which is not available on G model phones yet)
What model phone do you have, and what version of firmware or ROM are you running?
Thanks for your reply. I have a GT-I9100 and am running ICS 4.0.3 XXLPB.

Hmm... do you have root? It may be worth checking to see if you have a file named something like "dumpstate_sys_WIFI_OFF_xxxxxxxxx_error.log.txt" that's pretty big in your /data folder.
Checked my phone, Applications take up only 158 MB.
You probably have some heavy games/multimedia applications installed. Otherwise, I cannot understand how your Applications take up 434 MB. (But even Google Play application size is limited by 50 MB) +To that, additional data storage by these applications, and it is sufficient to fill up your phone.
Perhaps, you should try to install/move some of your programs to SDCard.
If you have root and busybox, from terminal,
"cd /data"
"du -hs *"
will display disk usage by files/folders. find which files/folders use most storage, report here.

Yes, it's safe. It's just a log file. In fact, the workaround to "fix" this issue essentially keeps this file from being created.

See this thread (post 10, specifically) for the "workaround" to keep the file from being generated in the first place.
It's not my solution, I'm just linking to it.
"32K com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
32K flixster"
straight from Terminal. That's all there is in the data folder. I checked in Finder too...
Using an app to sort things by size, the biggest thing is a ClockWorkMod backup but that's over 2 GB so I assume that's not in the Device Memory/System Storage place. Anyways here's the path:
"/clockworkmod/backup/2012-05-05.12.04.32/data.ext4.tar" 1.69 GB and
"/clockworkmod/backup/2012-05-05.12.04.32/system.ext4.tar" 467 MB
The next biggest culprit is:
"/DCIM/.thumbnails/.thumbdata3--1967290299" which is a whopping 274 MB.
Thanks again for all your replies.

That looks like you're looking in the wrong data folder. If you're going through the "My Files" app, then the data folder you looked in was actually /sdcard/data. Which is not the same as /data.
Are you rooted? You need root access to browse the /data folder, and you'll need a different file explorer than "My Files", like Root Explorer.

Again, these are children of the /sdcard folder. Which is on a separate partition from the "system storage". So you are not looking in the right place. I'm betting you're not rooted, either.
Yes, I am rooted (little yellow hazard sign at boot up and CWM and Superuser Apps).
I don't know how to access the system storage partition then... I'm certainly no pro in the Android world though...

Well, do you have "Root Explorer", (paid) or "ES File Explorer" (free)? Get one of those, navigate to /data, sort by size. (if you use ES File Explorer, you'll have to enable going up to the root folder, and enable root browsing) See if you've got a wifi dump file.
BTW, the "little yellow hazard sign at boot up" doesn't necessarily mean you have root. That just means you have flashed a kernel (via Odin) that was not signed by Samsung. More often than not, this is a kernel that roots your phone, or is used to root your phone, but not necessarily.
Thanks again ctomgee. Apparently no wifi dump file on /data... Sigh...

Well, do what mirbeksm suggested in post 5... that should spit out disk usage of the /data folder ordered by files/folders, as he stated... post the results, or maybe you'll be able to figure it out after running.
I'm trying but can't quite figure out how to view the root folder from the computer (Mac to make things more complicated), it goes straight to /sdcard.

You can't run an adb shell from a mac?
I guess you could use a terminal emulator (there are several available from the play store) directly from the phone to start a shell, then type the commands from there. (you may have to do "su" first, if the prompt is a "$" instead of a "#")
When I use an explorer like ES explorer or Root explorer I can go to system/ and find several files & folders.
However, when going to recovery and using the TWRP File manager or by using ADB Shell the System-folder is empty except for a folder named bin/. No sign of build.prop or any other files/folders.
Can anyone please help me explain why this is so? Is this normal?
wish someone knew the answer to this
really irritating ... i am using note 2 using philz CWM it's alright and the aroma file manager works like a charm .. but using TWRP .. same problem even the aroma file manager get's crippled ...
i really prefer twrp .. but until there's a fix i am sticking to CWM

Lol... ran into this today and wanted to just impress upon folks just how amazing and encouraging it can be when someone takes the time to type out a response/suggestion.
In this case, 6yrs after the hnkotnis made this simple post, I'm rushing through a bunch of stuff, screwed up my build.prop (experimenting) and then came up against a roadblock where I couldn't restore my build.prop backup in TWRP.
I was confused as hell - I'm a relatively advanced used with several hundred ROM flashes under my belt and lots of troubleshooting capability but here I am absolutely stalled out on an issue that just drives me up the wall. I'm about to cave and just reset the phone entirely but figure I'll ask the question of Google.
I arrive here and within 10s I'm saying "Duh" to myself... grab the backed up build.prop, repeat the process and I'm back in business.
hnkotnis; if you're still around and part of this community - thank you! You're one of the good ones that make XDA what it is.
It might've seemed silly at the time and perhaps even a moment to make this post but I don't think we can understate the importance of community like this...
Cheers:highfive:
Sometimes.. you see apps on xda.. that are required to be flashed.. and are in the form of zip files. Now how are these different from apk files with their regular installation? is it something to do with giving these apps you flash a deeper level permission? if so.. if your rooted can't you just give those apps those permissions after a normal install?
Usually making them flashable is just easier for some and if you were to extract the .apk from the zip and install it from sdcard it would work the same. Sometimes the app may require extra libs that are flashed at the same time as the app so they are bundled together as a zip. Or possibly it is being flashed to system for whatever reason and can't be done this way installed through os.
There are lots of varying reasons why it may be a .zip but you could also install it probably any way you'd like (including pushing with adb) if you want to know what's in the .zip just extract its contents, if you want to know what happens when you flash it look at the updater-script

Thank you..! I have one more question.. in some cases.. you are instructed to "copy apk's to system\app folder with a file manager with root permissions and then reboot" ... why this? does this produce the same effect as flashing it?
I guess it depends on the app, but it may only function properly as a system app, and yes it would be just as possible to flash it through recovery or push with adb to get the same effect

Just to be sure you have no way to reflash any firmware?
Else try to connect your tab to your computer and use adb even if your system bootloop. Try to install adb and push your missing files.
I doubt that there are no firmwares to download.
If they havr used the same boot like archos. The mount of the sdcard depend of the initramfs (ramdisk) not the OS.

It's not in a boot loop it just hangs at "bootanimation" (If you'd call it that I know I wouldn't) and wham stays like this forever.
Oh and another problem.
Code:
adb shell
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed no such file or directory (2) -
Can't push files from recovery because I need to mount /system. I can't do that because adb shell isn't working.
I don't see 7h G3 anywhere, see for yourself.

The editing vold.fstab option from 4.1-4.2 no longer works as vold.fstab was removed in 4.3, and the editing build.prop method for 4.3 no longer works.
Anyone know how to do it for 4.4?

No Luck So Far
Been working for hours trying to figure this one out. Things to note is that now there are two mount points.
1) /mnt/media_rw/sdcard1 / sdcard0 (this has the actual /dev/block/vold/179:1 origin
2) /dev/fuse /storage/sdcard1 / sdcard 0
I've been unsuccessful trying any of the old build.prop tweaks. Hopefully someone smarter will come along and bang this one out.

unfortunately, its only for this rom unless other rom makers incorporate it as well

Hi
on kitkat, you should unpack your boot.img file, update the fstab.* files inside, repack it, and flash it.
The way the img file is built depends on your device manufacturer. I did it successfully on my mtk tablet with the tools I found in this forum.
I am pretty sure that unpack/pack tools exist for samsung as well (for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/how-to-unpack-split-samsung-boot-img-t1810907 )
Good luck in your search.

on kitkat, you should unpack your boot.img file, update the fstab.* files inside, repack it, and flash it.

You have to look for the dev kit dedicated to your processor. Have a look there : http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/73913-onda-kitchen-a31-a31s/
I have a mtk based device. I found the tools in this forum. I edited the 3 fstab.* files I found, and then all worked fine.
thank you

with the massive overhaul that is kitkat, google changed alot of files, and therefore a new way must be discovered to switch internal/external storages.
The editing vold.fstab option from 4.1-4.2 no longer works as vold.fstab was removed in 4.3, and the editing build.prop method for 4.3 no longer works.
Anyone know how to do it for 4.4?
thanks in advance

Before 4.4 I could do it by "Android Internal to External sdcard" app, but this app couldn't do the trick on 4.4 KitKat OS, so "Foldermount" could be a good solution for you. All this app does is make a image of your apps (that you want to) to sdcard. The real files are located in external sdcard and only the clone file ( of max few KB) will residue at internal sdcard. If you are a gamer, this will help you until the real solution arrives.
Good Luck.
There is real solution! Or at least it works for me.

Since Android 4.2 and the intro of multiusers there is a problem with bind folders across sdcards, making any attempt on mount bind folders as root would result in visible to root only.
Solution is to fool Android with temporary hijack debuggerd to create the mount binds for us. Thanks Chainfire for this workaround!
* Download both files and rename without .txt
* edit debuggerd.mnt to suit your needs (using any other dir then /emulated/legacy/ will result in read only if browsing folders from sdcard0)
* move debuggerd.mnt to /system/bin
* move mount.sh to any place with execute permissions
* execute mount.sh with any preferred method.
cheers!

Thank You biopsin! Thank You Chainfire!
I'm including my files, but 'mount.sh' was not really changed in practical sense.
In case of 'debugger.mnt' it all depends on Your device. You need to check which block for You is internal and which external storage. Just 'mount' command should help.
You can also use it to mount only one folder - like 'obb', which will let You keep applications data on external card.
Just use "mount -o bind /storage/sdcard1/Android /obb /storage/sdcard0/Android/obb" command in debuggerd.mnt file.
You can also have different 'debuggerd.mnt' files (of course called somehow different - like 'debuggerd02.mnt') and different 'mount.sh' files which will let You mount different things whenever You like.
Enjoy!

And for easier usage You can try $cripter - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sites.mjwhitta.scripter&hl=en .
It's the best I found.
