[Q] Wipes (simple question, almost anybody can answer) - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

When wiping everything before installing new rom/update, is it necessary to wipe data/factory for full performance or may i not wipe and keep all apps? Is that possible?
I hope you can understand and sorry for my bad argentinian english!

No its not possible and you should wipe data/factory reset cause if you dont you will get into bootloop

Not necessarily.
@OP: it's always the best to wipe phone before installing new rom, however.. if it's update of same rom, then it's mostly not needed to do full wipe..
if you install rom same type (like 2 stock based roms or 2 CM based roms) sometime you can go without wiping.

Updating to new firmware/kernel

Hey all so after I update my firmware to XWKK5 do I have to wipe everything while in recovery mode is it really necessary?
What do you want to achieve with deleting all from recovery?
If you've upgraded, then the phone is in the version upgraded. If you delete all from recovery, you have to reinstall the entire ROM or the phone wont boot...

Instructions are to be followed .
Custom roms usually ask for wipe but not stock roms .

You don't need to do that if you are upgrading from a Stock ROM. If you chose the wipe version of ROM for flashing then it'll automatically wipe you device. If you use non-wipe it'll upgrade and everything remains same.
Wipe is only recommended when you are switchin from Custom to Stock or vice-versa else after a version downgrade say KK5 to KJ3.
Hope it helped.

[Q] Reseting Voltage Settings

I couldn´t find an specific answer for my question... just want to know if i flash a new ROM with CWM ( using wipe data/factory reset; wipe dalvik cache and finally mounts and storage and then select format system ) I loose ALL voltage settings I changed with Voltage Control.
Thanks,
Answer is probably as you have flashed a new kernel .

This isn't what you said above.
You need to be more clear. What is your question, exactly?
Are you asking HOW to fully reset voltages? (what looks like your first post, unless I'm misunderstanding) Or are you asking IF your voltages get reset if you flash a new ROM and do a full wipe? (which looks like your second post, unless I'm misunderstanding)

As JJEgan said above, probably, yes. If you do a full wipe.

Qeustion about factory reset

Hello, if i do a reset inside the OS, will this wipe and delete the cache same way as a hard reset with the physical buttons?
Yes. But both do not only delete the cache but everything on your phone's internal storage.
It's noteworthy that CWM (the alternative Recovery) keeps the /sdcard folder intact

So if i understand this right, both ways, like, the usual inside the android OS itself, on the S3, or the reset trough physical buttons, both delete the cache aswell?
can someone please explain a full wipe - when asked in a rom thread that you need to do a full wipe. what is that?
do you do it in CWM only, no where else?
- wipe data/factory reset then
- wipe cache partition then
- wipe dalvick cache
that's it? that's considered a full wipe? because I was reading and something said if coming over to xxxx rom from aokp do a full wipe.
tbh I've already changed roms but I hard bricked my last phone not knowing things like this. lol
thanks

Yes that is a full wipe, but "wipe data/factory reset" is enough, no need for the other two.
Also if you just flash a wrong rom, I doubt your last phone is hard bricked. You can donate it to me.
thanks for the answer.
with my galaxy note I installed a stock ss firmware via odin, installed CWM and then flashed aosp without wiping or anything. phone couldn't get into recovery, download or turn on. jigs didn't work and a shop also couldn't get it back into download or recovery.
so no signs of life, I've already sent it overseas for warranty, sorry mate
I ended up getting an s3 till note2 comes out. but I heard the note2 will only have 512mbs of more ram than the s3, and it won't be quadcore. if these are true I'll probably torch all my samsung devices and get apple products -_-

[Q][SOLVED] Why Bootloop after Factory Reset?

Can someone explain why on some Roms you got bootloop after wipe data/factory reset?
I got this on Clean'N'Tweaked and Original Xperia T ROM?
What 'vital' files are in /data partition to cause this?

Because you wipe the system so obviously the Phone cant boot.

wipe data doesn't wipe /system, only /data and /cache.
Also I got bootloop even when performing from Settings -> Backup and restore
I think that rom's have Small Apps.
Small Apps need some cache, almost all two zip's mod need to install part 1,clear cache, reboot, then inatall part 2.
That's why after wipe some roms that includes Small Apps or other 2 zip's mods won't work.

Wiping data/factory resetting the handset wipes the system, just wiping the caches does not.

:what:No... Wiping data /factory reset doesn't wipe the necessary system files required for some ROMS... :sly:
There's a different option in recovery to wipe system

this^^. wipe data/factory reset from cwm does not wipe /system.
Do u wipe data just after installing without booting even once?
Sent from my Xperia Mini Pro using xda premium
Hmmmm....The BIG questions is.....Do you wipe/factory reset after flashing custom roms or before flashing custom roms???
if you wipe/factory reset after flashing customs rom then YES you will get bootloop in certain custom roms....if you wipe/factory reset before flashing custom roms then NO you won't get bootloop....
you should also check if the kernel you use is compatible with custom roms you about to flash on your phone....you need flash custom kernel first (using flashtool) before you flash custom roms using CWM....
OK Thanks for the answers. Maybe small apps are caousing boot loop
But I have another question: How Xperia T users using stock Rom when they do factory reset don't get boot loop?

Someone?

Factory reset can solve the bootloop problem when we flash one ROM over other...
Factory Reset doesn't cause bootloops...
It just wipes the non-system apps and stuff...
Flashing a ROM with different framework over a ROM (like flashing CM over stock based ROM or flashing ICS over GB etc) , without wiping data /factory reset can cause bootloops...
Although there are a hundred other reasons for bootloops but it's the major one
Iknow , its very late ( 4 years ) lol
but its because of framework-res!
if U flash zellycream rom and reset it ----> every thing normal
install small app on stock rom and after reset---> BOOTLOOP
Sory for my bad English

vanilla root box for i9300 issue.

After flashing vanilla root box for the i9300 and the gapps I get this before I anything on the phone. "unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped". comes up. It give me to option to report or ok.what should I do?
hey man,
you should just go to Manage Applications and and clear the data+cache contacts and contact storage.
be sure that you have backup for your contacts or make sure their stored at your gmail.
GL !
after flashing rom and gapss .. you must wipe data/factory reset and then reboot.
Hi man,
It's not true...even at the official thread of the vanilla
CheerS
You only need to wipe when switching Rom or upgrade to another Android version
You should however wipe whenever you get unexplainable problems
You have to clear cache and dalvick after flashing gapps
yes, but before flashing another rom, not after

Nope, check the installation instructions for Vanilla Rootbox, it says to clear cache/dalvick after flashing gapps. The same goes for any other ROM.
i was answering for the who said you need to wipe after flashing ROM not gapps.
and for the gapps enough to wipe only the dalvik and you don't need to factory reset the device. The same goes for any other ROM.

Some ROMs do recommend doing a full wipe before installing the ROM and after flashing gapps. Cyanogenmod recommends it for those who are flashing it for the first time
