Network selection - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, is there a way to stop my phone swapping between networks? I am with Orange but because they have teamed up with T-Mobile it changes to T-Mobile sometimes.
Thing is my signal is worse on T-Mobile so is there a way to make the phone stop changing network? I have manually selected Orange but still it goes to T-Mobile!
Thanks

i guess it's your SIM card since it has "preferences" set to t-mobile and not to orange
i don't think you can change that, unless you get an orange card which is not the solution you are looking for....
or either ask for a replacement card or get more info if the new sim cards provided from t-mobile have a double network set

Settings -> wireless and networks more -> mobile networks -> service provider and select orange there. Doesn't this work?
That way network selection is set to manual. If it still switches networks after that, I'm afraid there's nothing you can do about it, except maybe complain to orange call center.

This is funny because I thought it was all EE now.

Why do I need to enable roaming?

I'm currently using a local sim card from Thailand in my Vibrant, but I still need to enable roaming to get data connected. One would think the phone should recognize the SIM and enable data without roaming on.
Is this perhaps hard coded in these phones, and is there a possible fix?

Strange, I had set them up manually before, but installed a new rom. Now for some reason it automatically setup the correct settings for data as well as MMS.
It's not giving me that warning anymore, but I wonder where it got those settings from...

Well I was too early, still get notifications to enable roaming.

Roaming issue

Hey,
Since yesterday my phone is always on roaming, i have two questions:
1. What does roaming mean?
2. How to disable it?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Settings>more>mobile networks>data roaming>untick
All I know is that I keep it on and only incur charges if I use it outside my country(which I won't).
Sent from my GT-I9100
But what does roaming exactly mean? It changed just yesterday till now.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Roaming means you are outside of your home network aka abroad.

What are you saying about it.Was it off and came on?.What do you mean "it changed"?.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
If you are talking about the data roaming option in settings that comes only to effect if you are abroad. It's basically telling your phone whether it's allowed to use data traffic while outside of your home network.

I'm not abroad, it changed by itself and I have "R" letter above the signal, Do you mean that now I'm not connected to my network? Why would something like that happen suddenly? And how to change it back?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
No idea how it could happen if you are in your home country. You may try to contact your operator to check what they see in their systems.
Odoslané z GT-I9100 cez Tapatalk 2
Are you on the three network? If so you have dropped off 3 network and gone on the the orange 2g network. 3 have a roaming agreement with orange..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Why you asked here & didn't contact your carrier in the first instance is beyond me. For whatever reason, your phone is obviously connecting to a network other than your carrier by default.
Why ? Who knows ? Could be a problem with your carrier where you're using your phone, and your carrier has a roaming agreement with another carrier so your phone is trying to use that network as it's the only one available.
Contact your carrier to find out/get this sorted. Nothing anyone here can say to sort it for you.
Roaming means you are not in your home network. Not necessarily you are abroad... In India when you move to a particular region where your network provider has no cell towers, you could still get the signal... This is because they have agreement with other providers there... In this case you will see the roaming symbol in Android. The setting in android phone is just to let the phone know that i would not like to use data network when in roaming. Because carriers charge more than usual for data used in roaming.

Galaxy S3 not getting 3G on Straight Talk

I recently bought an international unlocked S3 from Amazon and popped a Straight Talk micro sim into it. Unfortunately, I am only getting EDGE. I've tried all sorts of APN settings but to no avail. Is there a setting I'm missing or anything I can do to get 3G on this phone? Thanks.

Hi, I'm having the same exact problem... if there's been a solution to this can you guys post it here?
For any others with this problem, make sure you have this setting selected: Mobile Networks-> Network Mode-> GSM/WCDMA (auto mode)
Silly me had GSM Only selected.

[Q] How to force Verizon Galaxy S4 to use gsm 2G outside of USA

Hello everybody
My cousin from the USA bring me a Verizon Galaxy S4, I putted a local gsm carrier sim card and it worked fine, I have rooted it and installed hyperdrive on it, but the problem is that it's always on the gsm 3g network which consumes a lot of battery and I can't force it to use the 2g network since this option isn't available unlike the international version of the galaxy s4
Is there any way to force it to use 2g gsm network?

Verizon does not use any form of GSM. You are more likely on a CDMA network.

Maybe install Elixir 2? Maybe choosing network priority if there is any. The guy above has no idea what you are asking about.

I have installed the liquiezmooth Rop which is Aosp rom and it has this option, then i went back to my nandroid back up and now it use the 2g only !

Download the app from the store called phone info. Open it and select gsm only. This way you'll force the phone to work on 2g(gsm).

Hi,
My uncle has got me a new Verizon S4 from USA in India. He did not turn it on in USA neither he has activated the phone. He simply got me the box packed phone.
I inserted an Indian GSM SIM card and switched it on, it did recognize the service provider and then asked me couple of questions to select languages and all.
However it does not select a Network Operator. My Network operator is Airtel. It shows a List of Local Network Operators but when i select any of them, it says "Registering on selected network operator" but then it fails.
Can some one help me over come it and how i can use this phone in India?
Try to add apn for your provider and chose to search for the network automatically. Should work.

Restart to factory, when ask for language just tap the screen left bottom, right bottom, left bottom, right bottom and vol up.
The phone will activated, left bottom and right bottom mean just above the soft key, vol up is left side button for increase the vol.
Sounds network locked

Unlocked T Mobile HTC one showing other sim in "R" mode.

Hi,
I have an unlocked T mobile HTC one (bought from Craigslist). It was having a bad IMEI with T mobile (for non payment) but was unlocked (have unlock code). When I pop in a Lyca mobile sim, it takes the signal and everything works. But i could see that there is an "R" symbol near the signal. This, I guess, is "Roaming". Is there any issue/fix with this. I am not sure of what to make of this. Please help/advise.

It is not checked. Just the "data roaming sound" is checked...
Doesn't Lyca do this with any phone? Try it with another sim from another mvno and see.
