[Q] Cracked screen self repair - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have cracked my SGS2 screen during a trip last week. While everything works, it looks kind of ugly, and I fear that if I attempt to replace my crumpled screen protector pieces of glass will fall over.
The rates for screen replacement run for roughly 100-150$, about 1/4 of the price of the phone, while buying off of ebay seem to reduce costs to roughly 10$.
I have 2 questions, which I'd rather not check by myself and ruin the phone:
How hard/dangerous is it to replace the screen by myself? Am I likely to ruin it further?
Second, do I need a screen replacement such as these found on E-bay (I cannot post a link to an example), or do I need a brand new LCD touch screen?
Thanks in advance!

i hope you can find here the answers:

[Q] Cracked SAmoled+Gorilla Glass

Hi guys,
I just dropped my vibrant from 3 feet high and gorilla glass had a crack and half of the screen doesnt work and half of it shows random colors. Other than that it seems fine. Does it happened to someone else? I thought gorilla glass is uncrackable and Samoled is so elastic and durable but it seems opposite.
Should I send it to SamsungUSA or just buy a complete digitizer+glass+Samoled kits from ebay around 129$? Which one will be cheaper because I am afraid Samsung will charge a lot for screen replacement?
If you can help me I really appreciate it,
Thanks
If you have the insurance it is 135.00 with tmo or whomever they subcontract the insurance to. Otherwise check Globaldirect for cost. It usually will be cheaper there. Also, be aware that some replacement kits are not amoled but LCD kit so read the fine print on that as well.
Good luck
thanks, i am probably gonna order from ebay and change it myself. Globaldirect has minimum order restriction so its not useful for me
Did you check with Samsung directly for your regular warranty? The way these things usually work is that the normal warranty covers it until the 1 year is up -- no deductible. Since it is supposedly Gorilla Glass they should cover the glass from damage too. Be really charming when talking with them. Call back until you get a representative in your country too (during the day is safest.)
Let me know so I have it for future reference.

that's a misconception abt gorilla glass. its stronger than regular glass. its scratch n crack resistant but not scratch n crack proof. oh and samsung DOES NOT distribute their samoled screens to 3rd parties. all those.sellers on ebay are.selling regular LCD screen replacements.

[Q] What part needs replaced?

I dropped my HTC Legend yesterday onto concrete, and now my screen is cracked. I've looked online to see if I could buy the part myself, and try and fix it myself as a local cell repair shop says it will cost 180$ to fix, for that price I'll just buy a brand new Legend and cut my losses with this one. Looking around online though, I'm unsure as to what I need to buy? I've found an LCD screen, or a digitizer... My touchscreen and all those functions work 100% all thats wrong is the glass is spiderwebbed pretty good. I'm thinking that I need the digitizer not the LCD screen? Or is there just a part thats just the glass? I'd post a picture of the phone, but I can't due to site restrictions.

Broken Screen, what todo?

Hi
I have HTC Touch Pro 2 and today I broke its screen, it have 3 cracks on it now but strange touch screen is completely working without any problems. I also had screen protector on.
Now what do I have to do? Do I have to replace complete screen or I think I will just need to replace the screen digitizer?
Please guide so I can order it from ebay or if you could recommend any store from where I can buy quality products.
Thanks
Yep, been there done that. You have broken the digitizer glass most likely. I suggest that you get a LCD&Digitizer replacement from ebay like this one.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-Digitiz...172?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c62be3b24
Do some shopping around I only paid ~$12 for my replacement.
Learn from my mistakes and get the set. It is next to impossible to separate the lcd and digitizer. You can usually swap around the various kinds of lcds too. On my sprint tp2 I installed a at&t tilt screen with no issues.
It is not to bad of a job to replace, but the first time is a little nerve racking as you have to do a total tear down. There are videos on the tear down around online. If you live near Seattle WA, I can give you a hand.

Hi
Thanks, thats what I thought too, so your personal experience says its impossible to separate LCD and digitizer.. thats too sad as it can save me some money but I wonder why they are selling so many digitizers alone all over internet, and that is just for $8 to $10 with delivery.....
So finally you replaced both LCD+Digitizer or you were you able to replace just the digitizer?
and I live in Pakistan so I could only use help here or on any IM
Impossible, no. You will go through probably a dozen before you get to a point where you could separate them 50-75% of the time successfully. You will spend way less money if you get a screen set, or a phone with a bad board/esn number to pull parts from. There is an adhesive between the lcd and the digitizer (usually along the edge). The lcd does not have a protective glass layer, and it is sooooo easy to pull the lcd coating right off the lcd base it is not funny. You could tear apart the one you have as a free learning experience. It is not going to cost you anything but your time.

Well if its just that then its a piece of cake for me too, Im a technical person.... So what Im going todo is to open my mobile first before ordering and try to separate the digitizer from the screen and if I was successful then I will just order the digitizer and if I was not then I will order a complete screen set like the one you mentioned in your link.
What is this 1st Generation screen and 2nd generation screen... I have the international unlock version of TP2... which one do I order?

Galaxy S3 Glass Scratches

I've read many, many topics on the internet about the phone being scratched easily - and I've fallen into this. I know, I should have been using a a screen protector earlier, and I regret it. However, I was wondering how much it would cost to get the front screen replaced on the S3? Only the front screen is scratched - very badly. Any ideas?

Probably about £50, but why are you asking here when you could look on the repair shop's site
From what i've seen, 50 seems about right. However, if you're brave enough, you could try to order the parts yourself and replace it. You run the risk of screwing up your AMOLED screen though.
Screen (glass) is part of display module (AMOLED panel with frame). Officially glass is not replaceable, only entire display module.
You may replace display module at official Samsung service for about 200$.
You may buy display module with frame for about 100$ and replace it by yourself (it is easy, it will take 1 hour).
You may buy S3 glass only for about 5$ and replace it by yourself. It is not original glass. It is hard to replace. You may break display (if so you will need new display module with frame).

Glass, digitizer and LCD. Where to buy?

Phone was dropped today. The touchscreen no longer works and the screen is cracked. There is also what looks like a black liquid from the LCD. I therefore believe I must replace the LCD, digitiser and glass screen. I was just wondering where the best place to buy them from as I feel like I should avoid AliExpress and others alike. Although I dont want to spend to much.
Do all 3 come in one unit? For example if I get an OEM Screen Replacement for the S9, it will include LCD, digitiser and glass screen?
Thanks, all help is appreciated
I just checked over at Samsung. For the S9+ screen and digitizer $229. I did a guick search and found some for a low as $169.. Best to go OEM if you ask me, especially if you plan on keeping it for a while, and want it to work correctly.
Aftermarket frame and screen setups are rarely OEM quality. despite most of the claims. I would only buy samsung direct
