Games - Graphics glitch fix - HTC Desire X

Thought i'd post this after finding the solution to the smearing/artifact effect we see in some games with the Desire-X.
Firstly my rom was stock ICS. I updated via OTA, to Jelly Bean, and let my phone do its thing. The update was rather interesting as it seemed many things were behaving oddly. I decided to do a full factory reset, as which is generally recommended when updating to a newer OS.
Upon initial bootup everything worked fine. I downloaded a game, which had the smearing graphics glitch, and was disappointed that it was still evident. Decided to have a look a the 'developer' settings, and then put a tick in 'disable hw overlays'.
Phone is still as fast as it was prior to having it enabled and there's no more graphics glitch. :good:

X7500 speed issue.

Good day!
I'm fairly new to the smartphones world so my question may be quite lame.
I recently got myself a barely used X7500. The guy I got it from installed some useful software on it and apparently flashed it with new ROM (MichyPrima).
Everything works fine, but very slowly. Rendering images is very slow and music is choppy (except for when I use CorePlayer). Whenever a multimedia application is running everything else is twice as slow and when I close CorePlayer music continues to play for another 20-ish seconds before completely turning off.
What could be the cause and how do I fix it?
Thanx.

kindly check how much ram you are consuming. Check also how many software you installed. Sometimes we are too eager to install software that we like only to find out later on that we don't really use them. Normally, I only install what I really need and I just install as needed. Do a hard reset if you are still experiencing a slow down in speed. I'm using the same unit and ROM. Speed doesn't change.

[Q] Have to clear Cache/Dalvik everyday to keep Tab from running like molasses

I've had my tab for almost a year and I always have the same issue with every single ROM. When I flash a ROM everything works great for a few hours but by the end of the day it gets soooo slow. It gets so slow web browsing is next to impossible. Scrolling web pages becomes painfully slow and even the most basic functions such as screen unlock and other basic UI slowdowns are driving me nuts. If I use recovery to wipe the cache & Dalvik cache things speed up quite a bit, while a factory reset or re-flash bring it back to where it should be for a few hours. Regardless, it always ends up slowing back down. I've used everything from Stock HC and stock ICS, Task650 ICS and HC, to CM9 and CM10 (to include AOKP and other CM based builds) and a few others with CPU speeds everywhere from stock to 1.4GHZ. I've also tried every kernel I've found to no avail. It runs great right after a flash which is why I find it hard to believe that my issue is simply "the Tegra 2 just sucks". Anyone else have similar issues or any insight?

Is this slowdown also happening after factory reset with no additional apps installed? Could otherwise be one of your extra apps creating a memory/cache fragmentation. But if it happens on vanilla (i.e. no additional apps installed) it could be hardware?
I was going to ask the same thing as Just-another did. From my understanding the davlic cache is where the OS stores application loading information. read here for more details on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalvik_(software) The davlic also stores this information to speed the boot up process. when you wipe it, the OS has to reload this information into it about each application during hte boot process (thats why new flashes and boots after the davlic wipe take forever. With the introduction of ICS, I personally noticed that the OS actually told you it was preparing applications whereas GB and Froyo didnt do this. I had tablet that wiped it out each boot. that sucked.
I would suggest looking at the regular caches or your apps to see if one is hogging processes. then again, I may be way off base.
edit: this is a good concise explanation.
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7541281/what-is-dalvik-and-dalvik-cache
This may be a bit simplistic but have you tried just rebooting your device? Mine sometimes slows down to a crawl and this fixes it for me..
I agree with Pickupman66,
I would start from scratch again.. Process of elimination. A nice CM10 should do it.. But don't load new apps at all for the 1st day (don't fill in you google acount details). Leave it standard, and see how it behaves over a 24 hour period. Then slowly install apps.. install the most common and confident ones first, and leave time to make sure they're not hogging the system. Sooner or later, you'll find the one that causing the issues.

And it also interested me sometimes and I tab slow but works ok after restar not like it when I reset the time lost as the speed of response ?
I have a Samsung galaxy tab P7500 4.0.4 stock room . !

Finding s3 slow after jelly bean update :(

After I updated to stock international jelly bean update for s3 found it to be laggy and found that when I open up task manager the system seems to be using at least 500mb ram whether or not I have apps open
Does anyone know of any fixes or mods which could remedy this?

Did you do a full wipe before you flashed stock JB?
Are you on stock kernel?
Start with wipe of delvic cache to start, remove any bloatware that you do not want
Perhaps try a Rom or different kernel... personally on omega and it is very fast and smooth aswell as battery friendly
Sent from my Jelly Omega SIII using XDA App
Try flashing other kernel

same here
same problem here.. from stock international s3 ICS updated OTA to jelly bean 27 Oct 2012. Cannot load My Files, cannot load installed apps from gplay. OTA broke my phone which was ultra smooth before update. Any fix?
I too noticed the following :
- much slower
- very noticeable battery drain
- TW force closes
- The phone sometimes heats up just sitting in the pocket
- manny dropped calls
- restore from the autoupdate from ics does not work
In my oppinion this update is an downgrade, my fast and reliable phone had becomed a slow pain in the ass. This forces me to root and loose my warranty, Samsung should be punnished for f****ing up our flagship phones.....
same here
I have same problem, after update my galaxy s3 international ver. now is slow and lagy
any fix for thiis?
Same Problem
I have the same problems. Stock firmware. After OTA Update to JB its verry slow and laggy.
After reboot, it works smooth and fast. But in the course of the day it becomes slower and slower...
Any Ideas?
Only fix I found was to format properly and install latest Omega Rom. Then phone works 10x better
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
confirmed
Colleague's s3 is depressingly slow after update today, on Vodafone uk, I would assume a buggy Samsung process update
I have to say the same. After i update to Jelly Bean via OTA i have a lot of lags here and there.
The good:
- Facebook is now faster (at least the scrolling)
- Youtube open a little bit faster than ICS
The bad:
- There is a little lag in the transitions when you press the home button (only when you have a some apps open)
The very bad:
- battery last shorter than ICS, not a lot but noticeable worst battery life.
- Photo gallery doesnt show full screen when in landscape
- When you zoom in a photo has a lot of lag when move in the image
- Gmail, when scrolling in a message the text needs a little to render, this doesnt happened with ICS.
I will try to do a hard reset, but if this will fail in improve performance i think i will move back to ICS

I totally agree on the cons and pros - and it seems that as the LED is messed up on my phone. I am on stock JB 4.1.1 not rooted. Another issues I just discovered is that my phone not say fully charged and it does not change the LED to Green. I did a hardreset before I updated, and I tried to hardreset again today. For the first hours the phone i running smooth.....then it start to be laggy and slow. I really hope there will be a update soon for solve this - or I will have to root my phone for re-install ICS.

Absolutely the same situation with me too! I am so mad at Samsung now for functionally downgrading my wonderful S3 It was perfect until I did this update! Hope Samsung or Google come up with some remedy fix pretty soon!
Same here, ultra laggy and now my phone has completely frozen. Won't load up anymore
Gonna have to relearn how to sort it out.

Ok now that i had made a factory reset:
Jelly Bean now run a little bit smoother than before but, and this is a big but:
- Photo gallery remains the same. No full screen photos in landscape (notification bar space is in the top) and also and most important: if you take a picture in 8mb resolution when you zoom in that photo, scrolling is slow and has a lot of lag.
- Gmail app remains whit lag for rendering text inside messages.
- I feel that the battery still last longer with ICS
The rest is good. But above problems doesnt happened with ICS.
Overall i fell ICS a little bit smoother, dont get me wrong, i mean smoother not faster.
Today i was reading about a new update to JB from samsung, it started in Spain, lets hope this update will repair some of things listed.
(sorry for my english im from Uruguay - South America)
I got my S3 more slow after Automatic Update from JB on the mobile, but then after I found the solution.
Here's to solution to get the fast and stable version of JB for your phone.
- Install Kies
- Connect your phone to kies through data cable, not from WIFI
- Data cable mode should be media device, not the kies mode.
- Open Kies then Go To Tools >>> Firmware Upgrade and Initialization
- Backup your all things then click again on Firmware Upgrade and Initialization through TOOLS.
This will make s3 smooth like butter
It will download the official software thorugh Samsung's servers, It would take hours to download the software, usually 2 hours on 4mbps Connection.
and your S3 shouldn't be rooted, this method will on work on non rooted devices.
I updated to Jelly Bean on 26/10 from T-mobile UK - (I think T-mobile gave me an unlocked phone though as I seemed to get this update earlier than other T-Mobile users)
I was disappointed that some of my apps (MX player, dolphin browser) became buggy but that was possibly due to the apps needing to be updated by the developers.
I found the update to be smooth, but the battery life was absolutely atrocious when compared to ICS 4.0.4 (lasted about 10 hours on JB compared to 36-48 hours on ICS). I factory re-setted and was gutted to find JB still on there. After speaking to T-Mobile I was referred to Samsung HQ (the one most local to me) and they re-installed JB but it had no difference on battery.
I came home gutted, then read some reviews on cnet about custom roms and took the plunge & rooted my phone and downloaded Energy HD 2.0 rom (by Dakix) which I am currently using. I cannot begin to explain how much better this is than the terrible JB update from T-Mobile. Although this rom is based on 4.0.4 (ICS) I find the battery even a bit better than stock ICS, never mind the joke that is JB.
I just wish it contained some official Samsung apps like voice recorder and brightness in the notification, which unfortunately were removed from this rom, but even then I highly recommend it. It cuts out all the bloatware and runs smooth with a solid solid battery life.

Hi Fayzann, I think you just got lucky. I did my upgrade through Kies when my S3 was in MTP mode. this is something to do with the stock ICS installation which causes this problem while migration of apps or may be later when the installed apps are optimized for the new OS. whichever the case I see and 6 other friends of mine have also seen a significant reduction in battery life and system speed along with scroll freeze, keyboard jam and every single time I see my RAM usage is above 800mb even after killing most of the apps. This is atrocious!!! Still patiently waiting for that remedy! :crying:

You can always add missing apps back .
As to JB lag and Battery life as per multiple posts its better on a clean wiped phone with no apps as a fresh install rather than overwriting old stuff .

Definitely noticing the phone is now slower since Jellybean official update on O2 UK.
Key points
-Actual phone takes longer to load up - sometimes 2 or 3 seconds
-App Drawer takes time
-Home screen lag still there though much less
-Typing sometimes laggy
-Google Search slow (maybe disable google now)
Is a hard reset going to change anything?
Thanks,
Ezman
The same problem for me(battery life and slow interface).
Are there any news from samsung about update, which would fix this mess?

Beta dirty bean 4.2.x

The purpose of this post is to provide feedback to the developers to assist them in improving the ROM. I have no particular issue to present or problem to resolve beyond the limitations of the system.
I had no issue loading the Rom , as I have loaded several different Roms on several different platforms before. I can see the instructions to load this ROM could be difficult for the first timer as there are several places where there are actions implied rather than stated in the instructions, such as how to connect the tablet to the computer to be used in the ROM load. A small issue, but very large for a first timer not possessing the hypertext.
Great job DRH on putting this ROM together! Kudos! Everything comes up as it should with no issues. It seems stable on my gTablet as nothing has crashed yet after 4 days of heavy use trying to kill it. There are a couple of things that do not work though, the camera (might work on my tablet means won't work). The imbedded camera app fails to connect to the camera and Action Camera app will not finish loading and will just time out time after time after pressing Wait on the popup message. Sorry guys. The other negative issue is the dreaded SOD. Even with a wake lock app and the Settings configured not to sleep while charging, my gTablet goes into deep sleep and requires DRH use. It does wake up from normal sleep just fine without issue. It is a bit slow and sticky at times, but what do you expect with only 344MB of Ram available. It is a tribute to the devs that the ROM works well!
I loaded the ROM on a full factory stock View sonic gTablet 16GB with android 2.2 Froyo. It has never been rooted or Romed before. Everything worked (such as that is on the gTablet with factory stock). I checked it all before I started. Boot loader is the 1.2 version, but if l understand correctly, that doesn't matter any more to the latest NVFlash versions. If I can help with the ROM beta test let me know...

I am also having the deal sleep of death. At least for me it is not exclusive to this rom. I was originally asked to fix the deal sleep of death this tab was experiencing for a friend. When I started working on it, it had CM7 on it. It's been a long time since I messed with one of these and I just assumed these great developers had already solved most issues, so I just installed the new CM10.1. The sleep of death was still present. I installed stock firmware and all is fine. Is there something I'm missing.

Display issue on game applications. [Galaxy s6 running marshmallow]

Okay, so as of yesterday, march 27, I have been having severe issues with my display becoming an extremely low resolution and pixelated to the point where nothing is legible or recognizable.
I've included a link to two two screenshots and their descriptions are as follows...
Picture 1, final Fantasy brave exvius main loading screen
Picture 2, Vainglory mode select screen
Picture 3, clash of clans loading screen.
I've done a factory reset, wiped all data under the sun from my phone. Installed and reinstalled games repeatedly but no fix. Can't seem to find a solution anywhere.
I've tried optimizing graphics apps but no bueno. Even tried battery optimization off for all apps. No fix. Only on game apps. Everything else runs as it should.
Please assist if a solution has been found for an issue as this.
Edit okay so I can't post links so message me if interested and I can send you the photos.

I tried Game Tuner just for the sake of it, but it blurs me again somehow. So no, I won't use Game Tuner (I never did, anyway.)

I tried reverting the game optimization back to its original version by uninstalling updates, clearing the factory default gameservice cache. It causes occasional flashing on game restarts and I have to repatriation the process, but resolves the the lower resolution issue.
I very much appreciate the call out on the other thread!
However I run into the slight annoyance of having to do this several times during a normal day of usage. It never actually saves the setting. I do not have root access as this is the factory Verizon build for marshmallow. (I wouldn't be able to do that on this worn thing).
Caveat: along with the "ghost" reapplying the game optimization services update and causing it all to happen again, what would be a good recommendate on for keeping the service at a factory setting?
Edit: skipped that infernal game Tuner altogether. It proved trivial to what the issue actually is...and was useless in the entire process.
