Since yesterday I am facing this problem.
Last evening the touchscreen of my phone just stopped responding. It happened so: all of the sudden the touch wouldn't respond. Pressing the power button to switch of the screen for sleep mode was not happening. The last thing I had done was pull down the notification bar so that so it was stuck there. I pressed and held the power button to restart and it worked fine. After a few hours again it happened. Restarted again. Worked. But now everytime its happening. It stops responding. I restart then it works for 2-3 minutes and stops responding and again Ihave to restart and again it stops after a couple of minutes.
I tried going into recovery mode and download mode and it enter and it charges properly also.
Also, last night I switched the phone off and I left it on charge annotd today morning when I switched it on the problem is still there.
please help me out
My galaxy s3 is rooted and its running on stock rom 4.1.2 and siryah kernel.
Is it a hardware problem or software? What can be done?
Another thing just happened now. It stopped responding while I was watching a video on youtube. The screen didnt respond but the video was working and after a while the video stopped but the audio was still playing!

Its not 4.2 It's 4.1.2 Using the official one. And I have been using the siyah kernel for over a month now. Never seemed to cause a problem and never updated anything.
And no I didnt take out the battery. I just kept it switched off. Anyway I will do that too now.

Okay....so you did nothing? Perhaps you're stressing the cpu/gpu too much and kernel does not totally support 4.2.x yet....try flashing perseus kernel also, it cant hurt...

Should I flash stock firmwire then try rooting it again and then flash the kernel?
The thing is I used to use my phone while on charge. A friend says the circuits must have gone haywire but this doesn't seems like a hardware problem.

If u use your phone while on charge that only harms the battery (it will make it last less...but it is inevitable anyways who dooesnt use phone whike on charge)...
What would be the very best option would be to factory reset through recovery (u have clockworkmod right?) (U can save apps with titanium backup) and flash a new rom and THEN a new kernel.
If you flash foxhound it comes with kernel already backed.
BUT before doing this (nobody likes to start off fresh) just try flashing another kernel first(or try and get an updated version of siyah kernel, maybe you got the s2 variant, which has a higher build version than the s3, making it look obsolete).

Hi all,
I have a galaxy s2 I9100 running siyah v3.3 and the latest release of CM9.
When I turn the phone off (fully off, not just sleep) and I try to charge my phone. It just freezes at the picture of the little grey circle spinning round, and won't charge. It will charge fine if I turn the phone on. Or if I use the CF- root kernel. But it won't work with siyah. I tried re flashing the resurrection cm9 thru odin, and did a full wipe of the usb storage and internal storage. I wiped all the caches. I did everything I could think of. But nothing has worked.
Can someone please tell me if this is a common problem? Or is the any way I can fix it?.
Is the a hardware problem with my phone?.
I really need to be able to charge my phone well turned off. Because otherwise if my phone completely runs out of battery, my phone will be as good as bricked, as I will have no way to charge my phone.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help
Cheers Corey

Are you on latest cm9?
AFAIK it was fixed recently in cm9 and gokhan might have not megred it in his kernel hence offline charging is not working on siyah but working on stock cm9 kernel
I am on 20120605 at the moment, but I will be upgrading to the latest tomorrow. I have been having this problem for quite a while now. I was just wondering if other people are experienced the same thing?

He said he will work on stability so most probably fix it but now he will focus on SGS3
Exactly the same problem here. The explanation above makes sense that something change in cm9 and the change is not reflected in siyah. Really hope it gets fixed.
Same here, does not charge GT-9100M and Syiah 3.3.2, when battery drained and off.
Charges on another GT-9100 and Syiah 3.3.2 though...
Hope it gets fixed...love Syiah kernel...

I had this problem before, but apparently not was a hardware problem from me. Other than this, and my phone kept on showing that it was being charged while unplugged, and and also showed weird signs (warning triangle with a thermometer). A visit to the Samsung customer care solved it when they fixed the circuit board.

-then use triangle away app to clear the yellow triangle. Download here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114

No, rooting won't change anything, so no use in this case. You're completely stock, so it MAY be a hardware issue. Did it work when you bought it initially? Or has it been like that since you unpacked it?
Also, you're on 4.0.3. Upgrade to 4.0.4 and see if the problem persists. Update via KIES and do nothing else after upgrading (don't do a data wipe or anything else).

Hi,
I noticed the same behavior if I am turning on the WiFi, while data communication over 3G is done at that moment. The WiFi freezes, the phone starts to heat and if to turn on the screen lock after sometime the phone will not be turned on until the battery is removed. If to look at battery usage statistic after the battery removal you will see the gap in it.
It does not happen if the WiFi is turned on while the communication over 3G is not done.
Tried to search for solutions, but unfortunately it was not successful.
So decided to keep the WiFi turned on constantly, just to avoid this issue.

Workaround I found is when you try turning on wifi and if it doesn't turn on immediately ... Just restart your phone, the wifi will be turned on, instead of removing the battery and putting it back.

@OP: If you recently purchased it go back and they'll give you another one that will not have that issue. If you bought it from someone else, well, there we can start talking about flashing and what not.
Hello xda
I'm getting a problem..
Sometimes my phone heats up while charging that it starts bootlooping!
But today battery was about 15% and I didn't put it on charge.. then also it started bootloop. My dad put it on charging and it keeps on rebooting and it was so hot when I came back!!
Actually, why is it rebooting again n again? It was working so fine from 2-3 days n I did nothing!
I'm using foxhound 2.4 on stock kernel.
I just wanna know that is it a hardware issue?? or what?
as it's a new phone so it tenses me.. and I didn't started development on it yet
bought around 2 weeks ago
Try re-flashing the rom but with Siyah kernel. This is what i run and it's perfect. I run overclock @ 1.7ghz and get no excess heat. Also 20 hour batrery life under standard use.
Search before asking, Ask before acting and you will succeed.

I can't see it being a hardware issue, no. Especially if all was fine before flashing the ROM. It May be issues with the rom and stock kernel.

Did you take a back up before flashing? Hopefully you did.....?
If so, then flash your stock back up and leave for a few days. If problem persists then you have an hardware issue. If problem is fixed then it was the rom and kernel issue.
As i said i akso use Fox hound 2.4 but with Siyah kernel and my handset faultless.

Just run stock for a few charges. You have to find the fault. If no fault running stock thdn go back to Foxhound but try a different kernel. Goodluck!

I have just posted a couple of hours ago asking why my new Cyanogenmod 10.2 rom would be freezing, and I think the problem is to do with my eMMC chip. I have one that suffers from the 'sudden death' problem.. So I've posted this in a new thread as it's kinda a different question..
Anyway, Samsung have released a fix, but I can't find any instructions ANYWHERE on how to apply it.
I've found this on the cyanogenmod wiki http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/EMMC_Bugs, but that simply links me to a github repo of the code, with no instructions on how to apply the fix.
Could someone direct me to some instructions, or talk me through how to apply the fix?
Thanks,
Luke

It's hard to say exactly when, but it was after having my phone sent off.. I had found that a way to fix it was to reduce the amount of free space on my internal sd card, so I got a dummy file generator app, that nearly filled the sd card, which seemed to stop the problem.. However I am not able to do that now, because the phone freezes before I'm able to search the play store..
I would ring optus (my phone carrier), however now that I've flashed a custom rom, my warranty is void, so they're not going to do anything to help me..

Ok cool, I will have a look at that..
I managed to get into the play store and download the eMMC Brickbug Check app, and it's telling me that it's still a problem, so Cyanogenmod 10.2 doesn't have the fix incorporated into it..
I would still like to find how to apply this kernel patch, as I reckon it will definitely help..
CM 10.2 does indeed have the fix incorporated, the checker only checks if you have the chip that's affected and nothing more. It will not tell you if you have a fix applied

I see.. Then that's a bit more concerning that my phone is still freezing. It doesn't do it as much now though, it seems to have 'settled', and now only freezes every now and then.. But if the fix has been applied, I don't see a reason why my phone would freeze at all :/
