Sure it does. It turns off all radio, and using radio uses battery. So PLANE MODE is a great battery saver.
Also, at night you can turn off 3G, only using 2G (you will still get SMS and the phone will ring), but it uses less battery.
Turn off wifi, data and bluetooth also makes the phone use less battery.
When the phone goes into sleep-mode, it can be set up to turn off all those stuff.

Undervolting the cpu always works for me, although some people say it reduces the phones life. Setting the max. processor speed to 320 or 480 mhz also saves a lot of battery, and its more than enough for a daily usage GB ROM.
Next, the more apps you have installed, the more extra RAM gets used. Less RAM usage means a little bit of battery saving.
Some people also claim that using an odexed ROM prevents battery drains, but I'm not sure about that.

I don't think Sleep mode is that good. I noticed that when we turn On sleep mode the battery doesn't drain, but then when we turn it Off it starts to drain faster for a while.
Undervolt i don't think it saves that much battery, i think it's about the same because i'm using undervolt now and i don't feel the difference.
In Performance options, turn off that Free Up Ram thing and put low values on SD Cache and Virtual Memory ( the lower the more battery saved ).
And off course, more battery is saved by turning everything you don't need OFF like Bluetooth, WiFi, Net by DATA, 3G, Brightness ( if not at minimum yet ), Animations of the rom, etc...
About odexed roms, it's a lie man, i tried almost all roms till now and the odexed roms for me were the worst in battery life.
About CPU, only put 480mhz max if you Type 2 fast on your phone in SMS and stuff ( that's why i have 480mhz xD ), but see for yourself if 320mhz Max is good for you or if it is a little bit slow to type SMS and stuff.
Cheers

Not true, i always used 480mhz without any problem in any rom. If a rom has random reboots it's a Rom problem or an app problem.
Besides, if an app isn't meant to work on our phone it wouldn't even open, so random reboots is out of question unless the Rom has problems.

Only on phones with better hardware (e.g. a samsung galaxy s2-s4). If you set the frequency to low on that sort of phone, it will reboot. But not our phones; I once (accidentally) set my freq to 19 mhz, but it didn't reboot, I even managed to reset the clock speed without having to reboot.

19 mhz or 122 mhz. 19 mhz will mean that, while going into sleep mode, your phone will save more energy, but it might take longer to wake up.
480 or 320mhz Maximum ( your choice ), 19mhz for minimum. Honestly i don't know if 19mhz actually works :S , i feel that it drains the same battery as if it was 122mhz. And in sleep mode i feel that the battery drains faster for a while after we turn off the sleep mode :S , but it's always better to check it out for yourselves xD.

Let's see how long this puppy can go without charging.
I'll keep its usage only to phone calls and messaging (which is a lot). It'll be my main phone obviously (and I can't turn it off).
Settings:
a) devoid. rom (link)
b) wifi, gps, 3g, mobile data - off
c) brightness @ minimum
d) auto-sync - off
e) underclocked & undervolted @ 480Mhz (min: 122Mhz)
f) governor set to conservative (still thinking about it)
g) hardware acceleration - off
h) watchdog lite installed (to check for apps gone berserk)
i) load monitor installed (to check for kernel loops and wakelocks)
j) airplane mode when sleeping or at classes, exams or hospital
k) red colored wallpaper (red is in the lower spectrum of visible light EM: higher wavelength, lower frequency, lower energy, lower battery consumption?)

You really DO get bored!
You don't seem to have forgotten anything. I don't know if a red wallpaper really helps, since the big consumer is the backlight which you already minimized.

the battery is 1%
and i have done 3 days and 2 hours.
1.31 hours of phone calls.
just when i need it..
i had unchecked all sychronization things, apps and i set it to gprs..
without turning off or airplane mode
the brightness was the default.
i thing it can be last longer..

Hmm, well the brightness is already so low :x
Anyway, I have to restart the test.
Underclock and undervolt seems to consume more battery...
I'll unplug @ midnight of 13/01/2011, GMT+0.
Keep us posted.
I've made a Test with Javali, using the LG P500 just for Calls and SMS, and after 48 Hours i still got 60% of Battery.
14 hours ~ 94% battery, without underclock/undervolt or using airplane mode.

I didn't underclock it.
I did at first but consumption was higher so I put it back to 600Mhz and restarted the test.
So, by extrapolation, we can assume around 6 days of battery life. Still, without knowing the talktime this is inconclusive.
@Noejn
What about undervolting keeping the same Mhz, is that possible?

I never tryed draining compleatly my battery because i keep on pluggin it in my computer to test stuff, but I would be happy if my phone could last aprox. 4days.

OK. My wife phone is really crazy draining battery like it's crack. Soo would like to know anyone using this. What's your set up. Should I do load on bootup etc? Scaling set to? When screen off so forth. She's on SC 2.9.2 with jt kernel lastest one. Thx for the help guys.

Interactive. Ondemand. Conservative. Performance. Pretty much self explanatory right? Does anyone have a nice guide for fascinate? Maybe. I set up 400mhz on sleep and.it would power on after putting on lock.

I'm not having battery issues and I'm running just the 2.2 leak with JT's 327-2 kernel. Just set CPU to conservative and maybe drop it down to 800 mhz. I spent the majority of my day today talking on my phone and playing cordy and I was at 50%.
You can give this a shot it could just be giving weird info on the battery level. while the phone is on, charge the battery to 100% full. Turn off phone plug it in and charge to 100% again. Boot phone into CWR and clear the battery stats. Start phone like normal.
Hope that helps.
Install spare parts and use the Battery History feature and check for a wakelock. Thats the prime reason why a phone will drain like crazy.
To check for a wake lock Spare Parts> Battery History >And look to see how long it's running. If it's a really high % and the screen has been off you have a wake lock.
To find out what's causing the wakelock click "other usage" and choose "partial wake usage".
If it's Android system it's probably the GPS doing it. So turn off the GPS unless you're using it.
Cool ill check those out.

I find the phone to do a good job of managing itself but I also haven't played with setcpu alot. A sleep profile probably wouldn't hurt things... but someone else is probably better suited to answering your question.
The only thing I'm using it for now is for a temperature profile to act as a failsafe if the phone/battery start gettting too hot.

SetCPU may help with battery life however you are better off with JuiceDefender in my opinion. This will automatically turn off items not needed when phone screen is off.
If battery draining is your real problem, this thread may also help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987529
Set CPU isn't really fully compatible with the fascinate. The author says use a certain profile but it doesn't help much. When i used set CPU, my phone would go to sleep endlessly and I wasn't able to turn the screen on. This is because there was a bug causing it to go down to 19.2Mhz even though I set it at around 400. I had to pull the battery to solve this.
I have found that running Setcpu freezes mine up anytime it goes into sleep mode not matter what speed it is set at. The only way I was able to fix this was by removing the app, reflashing the kernel, and reinstalling it.
Have you tried to charge to 100% with the phone off, boot into recovery, and clear the battery stats? Run the battery to death before charging and you will have improved battery life.
Ill try to do all those advices guys. Thx for the info.

Do NOT run the battery to "death". This actually is bad for the battery. Every time you do this you will kill cells that will never come back giving you less life per charge of the battery.

The profiles definitely do not work on the SF. The app doesn't really get along well with any of the Galaxy S phones. I run mine at 800 max, 100 min and on conservative. It brings it down to around 100 mhz when sleeping, and back up to 400 or 800 when using it. Don't enable any profiles, as it will cause your phone to freeze when the screen goes off.
There are two things you can use SetCPU to change/edit that I have found won't cause problems. You can change the min/max clock speed the phone will run at and you can change the cpu governor. I had issues with Set on Boot enabled, though Profiles are the biggest issue. The info tab is also useful for looking at information about the kernel and system.
Hi xda members
Since I didn't get a reply in issue's in GB thread I will make one my own.
it happens to be that my battery life has greatly discreased with the GB update.
Let me tell you what I did
I had a rooted FW of 2.1 because I have read that the update doesn't update with CFW i repaired trough SEUS to stock. I wiped all caches + battery stats and updated this friday to 2.3.3
Now I think my battery still needs time to calibrate again since I wiped stats but here is the strange part.
whenever the phone is on idle the phone only uses about 34mA ( using battery monitor widget ) which is as before noting big . But whenever I go to youtube/ watch mp4 vids it skyrockets to 900mA!? This makes my battery last for 2 hours. The brightness is at it's lowest though and still it consumes so much. before my mA was around 300mA with that kind of usage now it's freaking 900mA !?
Should I relfash wait for the battery to be calibrated again ?
Thanks for you time
bump no one !?
I think this problem is due to original sonyericsson kernel in 2.3.3 that causes the problems, and I think it can be fix it with custom kernel, because the processor is always operating at 998Mhz and 245Mhz little.
look it in cpuspy

Yup downloaded cpuspy and indeed it's always clocked at max speed even when just browsing and stuff going to look to root this device and underclock thanks for the input !
Has this issue been fixed somehow, or addressed? Is it even possible? I'm on WB TW 2.3.3, lovin' it, but battery running down crazy when screen is on. CPUspy does show, though, that when in an application (e.g. Drag Race), the middle CPU frequencies are indeed used.... At the moment I have
1h34 @ 998MHz,
8min @ 768MHz,
6min @ 576MHz,
2min @ 384MHz,
12min @ 245MHz,
30min deep sleep.
So they are not inaccessible... any ideas on how we can get back to normal battery use? CPU profiles etc. of any use?

i did this thing 2 hrs back my battery ran in 100% for more than and hour with 50% brightness !!
hope it works for u too

Hi, i think it's normal that your battery drains too much with the settings you just said, i use 480mhz max and 19mhz min, 2g networks to save battery, note that 3g on is always active even if you're not surfing the web so it's always draining untill you deactivate it, In performance set it to free ram when needed and use like 24/32 of virtual memory, and the rest depends on how you use it.
My phone endures for 2/3 days but i just make some calls, send sms and listen to music 1 hour a day, so i think it's very normal that your battery drains fast with that usage you do. no wifi and no data conection? are you sure you have kernel naa-14 well installed and that you have made all the full wipes and formats on cwm when installing the rom? sometimes errors are because of bad instalations made, and not wiping and formating is one of the keys to a bad instalation.

No, as far as I know there is CPU somewhere nearby and that causes heat. What CPU governon you have? If "performance" you should change it. Also maybe some apps working cause high use of CPU? There can be a lot of reasons. You have to tell us more details such as ROM which you use, if this thing happened from the start etc. For start you can try hard reset and see how it will work.

It look everything is fine. Well the last resort is to give your phone to LG service if noone else will write something but I wouldn't bother if it's only heat. My phone sometimes heats up if I watch a lot of videos or something but not in normal use as listening music or surfing in the net so it's still strange.
It start warming fast and it fills like a cold spot. Warm middle cold outise. Also if I tap the back of the phone I can hear a sound like a jingle or a spring.
I have changed my device and this one has the same symptoms. I think that this is a fabrication issue. It is happening also for Nexus 4 (made by LG too). http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40334
