You can ask any questions here, whether they are noobish or not. We'll try to answer them as quickly as possible.
But, take some time and read the FAQ below, which will really save you and us a lot of time.
Before anybody asks this out too, F.A.Q means Frequently Asked Questions

A. Combination to go in:
Recovery Mode: Volume Up + Home + Power button simultaneously when phone is turned off
Download Mode : Volume Up + Volume Down + Power Button simultaneously when phone is turned off
If these fail, take out your battery, Press combination and reinsert battery
If you can go to Download mode but not in Recovery, then your device may be soft bricked, please refer to previous question
If all things fail, then sorry, your device is hard bricked, a USB JIGmight help

Q. Can I flash ROMs/MOD/kernel/(anything I don't know about) of Galaxy Ace s5830 on my s5830i ?
A. Simple Answer, NO. You will brick your device if you do so.
Q. Can I flash ROMs/kernel/mod/(Anything I don't know about) of Galaxy Y s5360 on my s5830i?
A. ROMs can work on our device but they needs porting as several things won't work. Kernel will NOT work on our device. It's generally a good idea to avoid flashing anything that is not for your device and you don't know about it. So, No for noobs and Yes for experienced users
Q. I flashed a root package but due to something, I am not rooted, what to do?
A. Confirm that it was only for your device. If it was, try reflashing it. If it doesn't work, try flashing UNROOT package and then again flashing a root package that is confirmed to be working
Q. I flashed a custom ROM and now my headphones aren't working, what to do?
A. You will have to flash Rafael kernel and modules from this thread :
Rafael.Baugis kernel and modules
Q. Due to some reasons, my SIM contacts are not showing, what to do?
A. Its a known bug with our kernels, maybe you recently flashed one. Easy way to fix is to insert your SIM card in any other phone and export all SIM contacts to sdcard and then Import it back to your Android by sdcard
Q. I have lost my IMEI no. What to do?
A. To check if IMEI is lost or not, open your dialpad and type *#06#. A window will pop up, if it has 15 digits written on it, your IMEI is intact and there is no need to continue reading it, If it is blank, then follow the procedure.
First, you will have to flash Stock ROM. Link to its guide is given in above FAQs. When you have done it, you will get your IMEI back. Now, root your ROM, download Galaxy Toolbox from Play Store and accept the superuser permission and backup EFS partition.
Now, flash your desired ROM/kernel, and install Galaxy Toolbox and restore IMEI, AND CHECK IN THE INFORMATION SECTION WITHIN THE APP, if IMEI no. is written, then Ok, if it's not written, then redo the process.
Now, you may be able to see the IMEI no. (within the information section of Galaxy Toolbox, but not when you type *#06# in dialpad). To make the change be in effect, reboot your phone.
Note: Sometimes you will have to repeat this process several times and it is recommended to do it after media scanning finishes and, sometimes, when you restore it and you are able to see IMEI in information panel, it is temporary and goes blank in about a minute. So, I recommend waiting for about a minute of restoring and then confirming it isn't lost again and then rebooting.
And due to some unknown reasons, IMEI can also disappear randomly between reboot.
If nothing works, then follow this
Fix IMEI
Q. I am not able to call/text/use my data/lost network . What to do?
A. You have probably lost your IMEI, follow the guide in above FAQ
Q. What is the best ROM/kernel/mod for this device/ for me?
A. There is NO best ROM/kernel/mod. Everything is based on your taste. head over to development thread to find out some awesome things and choose yourself.
That's all for now
Will add more when I get time
Its midnight here and tomorrow is my exam
Excuse me if there are some errors, these all texts and BB codes were written on mobile
Don't forget to suggest me some FAQ

[Q] CWM, CWR, Triangle+!+Android free apps frm amazon show purchased frm goog.

Ok First things first:
ATT SGSII, 2.3.6, I777UCKK6, 2.6.35.7, Build UnNamed 2.2.1
Purchased: Rom Manager, TiBu, Rom Toolbox, SetCPU, root Mobile ODIN Pro and many apps not relevant (except one) to this inquiry.
I loaded my question up here, it was lower in the body of this text but I figured I'd give a layout first of what I'm trying to figure out and then the details of what's going on.
Is the Triangle, !, android an issue with something I did or an issue with Clockwork as previously mentioned in many other threads? Basically will it show up any time I try to boot to CWR from Rom Manager? I haven't used it in so long so I don't know anymore.
**I do see where it indicates that you shouldn't use Rom Manager with this phone in threads. I am not asking whether you should use it at this point. I am asking if it is generating the error with the Triangle, ! and Android. In these steps below I also did try flashing entrophy's kernel amongst other things.
Also if anyone reading this can provide an idea of how to fix the amazon downloads showing purchased in google I'll try it but I don't want to start customizing my phone till I know it doesnt have some lingering issues.
I have flashed roms starting back with my captivate since october 2010. I have had a membership off and on on xda since at least 2003. I have read forums and studied and don't know where to look to answer this question although it's probably simple and I probably already know. Here it is...
I use amazon.. (why I dont know I've almost converted to only google market). I was lured in by their free app of the day deals. The one app I love the most is TuneIn. I have tried repeatedly to uninstall the app, remove amazon, clear cache, dalvik cache, market cache, data and everything else including deleting folders with old tunein and amazon info, all backups from any of above said tools. Yesterday TuneIn was .49 on Google (although I've tried buying it for its normal price too). After reading a post on here and using Rom Toolbox to clear all my data (yeah I screwed that up and I mean ALL data) my menu button and power button menu were disabled or gone (no boot into recovery, dl mode etc). I tried fixing it by doing a stock restore to existing rom.. didnt fix it. Thought I'd try to install a new rom, didn't fix it. Spent 6 hours last night just trying to get my phone to store stock, eventually did but couldnt get CWR (not CWM) installed. Even CWM wouldn't install CWR. If I used CWM to reboot to recovery (power button option to boot to recovery was still disabled and 3 button would take me to stock 3e) it would show me a triangle with exclamation point and the android.
As of now running my above said options, I can boot to CWR using the power button & recovery. I have also gone into CWM (which I read in the past, adamantly not to use with the SGSII - ATT) and flashed CW and when I try to boot from there I am still getting the Triangle with ! and the green android. So it appears I have CWR from power, I can flash roms again, My phone is working well again (although I still can't get tune in from google!!!!!!).
I do want to mention I formatted the sd, not external and not the inserted micro sd. Should have been a totally clean install.
Thanks for reading my lengthy info, I'm sorry if i missed this but I did work on this 6 hours last night and have been working on it 2 hours this morning.
Didn't read all of it, but here ya go.
[GUIDE] How to remove warning triangle w/ Mobile Odin
You need to read more before flashing your phone.
The triangle appears if you flash a new ROM/kernel. Another simple way to get rid of the triangle is to get a cheap usb jig off ebay.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081
The Samsung Galaxy S II contains an internal flash counter which is incremented each time a non-stock binary (kernel/rom) is flashed from a computer using Odin or Heimdall. (Using the new Mobile Odin on your phone does not increment the flash counter.) The purpose of the flash counter is believed to be to allow Samsung and or AT&T technicians to detect if the phone has a voided warranty through flashing non-stock firmware. The first time the flash counter is activated, the phone also displays a warning screen on boot up with a yellow warning triangle containing an exclamation point. The warning screen also contains the i9100 logo. (Evidently, Samsung did not change the warning screen from the International version of the Galaxy S II for the AT&T version.) Some rooting methods require that a non-stock kernel be flashed before rooting can be accomplished. So rooting and flashing custom software can both cause the dreaded yellow triangle, and increment the flash counter.
It is possible to remove the warning screen by two methods. One is by using a Jig to place the phone into download mode. The other is by flashing a stock kernel using either Odin or Heimdall. However, there is only one way to reset the flash counter, and that is with a micro usb Jig. This was true for the International version of the Galaxy S II as confirmed by Chainfire on the i9100 forums. This has also been confirmed for the AT&T Galaxy S II by dayv. Please see his post here, and then go to this post and read it and the following five posts for a complete description with screen shots.

Not sure what your problem is with Amazon and Google Market. Are you trying to get rid of Amazon and just use TuneIn from the market?
Not the triangle you guys think.. read the full thread please

.o0O ..Sigh I figured out where the attachment button was.. thanks..
This is what I'm talking about folks.. when using the *reboot into recovery* option in rom manager this is what I get, not recovery. I can get to recovery just fine using 3 button or using the power button..
Also anyone ever figure out how to get an app you got for free from amazon to stop showing purchased with google even after say.. flashing to stock and starting fresh and not even downloading it?
That's all because you SHOULD NOT USE ROM Manager

Sage... Maybe it wasn't a typo after all.
What part of
Wow.. what part of *I said in my first post I know it says not to use rom manager and that's what the whole freakin thread was partly asking about along with the issue that generated this whole inquiry!*
Do people know how to read? Do people know how to respond with out being rude? If you ever read my comments I stated I know it says not to use rom manager yet you get sucked in assuming I'm talking about the GT I9100 statement.. I said in other threads it says not to use it but then again it says TO use it. I said I can get into recovery fine using the other methods and wanted to ENSURE that the droid with ! and triangle was specifically an issue related to rom manager which I had stated was UNINSTALLED!! Wow...
Secondly the question primarily was .. I downloaded tunein from amazon app store. It was free. Amazon updates don't seem to be timely as googles. Uninstalling the app, clearing caches and market info does NOT fix the issue. It will still show *purchased* and decline the download on Google. All of the above said issues were results of me trying to be able to download and install the app from google instead of Amazon. I had to reformat, stock etc my phone and reroot try to find cwr to flash to my phone. I used an old copy I had sitting around on my HD. I tried using entrophy's kernel, I tried using a few other of the new roms.. I tried using my old rom. NONE of them would allow me to flash in stock recovery or would flash over stock recovery.
I apologize if my explanations aren't clear enough. I was hoping they made enough sense but either I'm not being clear enough or people are just plain being rude. Try being useful if you respond and stating something that leads to a solution rather than an insult...

You can not flash in stock recovery, so if you are rooted then use Mobile Odin or any other method then flash Entropy/Siyah.
From there you can start flashing roms and see if your problems still persist.

Okey dokey - First, thanks for actually trying to respond with helpful information instead of sarcasm. I actually really do appreciate that. Second I see people all over the forums stating they use rom manager. At this point when I have more time if this thread is still open I will cite those but at the moment I don't honestly have time. I wanted to thank you first to show you I appreciate your positive feedback. I cannot install it from the android market website either, it also shows purchased. Thank you for that suggestion. Lastly I tried mobile odin before I ended up using odin on my win7 pc. I had an old stock rom from oct last year I used to flash back to stock and then gain root and cwr. Then I flashed unnamed back on. I only installed rom manager because I probably followed some other sheep who were using it stating it in multiple forums q&a and general.
Again, thanks for the suggestions, in my first post it does show I have mobile odin pro along with many other tools.

So being rude to people posting and then them sending a pm asking them not to be rude in post, when they don't clearly read all the details makes them a saint? I'm the one providing well more than enough details to support my inquiry and on a message board and thread where people are supposed to help each other ends up being a bashing section by people stating I didnt search or read enough when I clearly stated I already did all that.. that makes him a saint?
Perhaps you need reevaluation on what saints are and do.. This was easy to google and didnt require hours of searching a forum for an answer:
"any of certain persons of exceptional holiness of life, formally recognized as such by the Christian Church, especially by canonization.
2.
a person of great holiness, virtue, or benevolence.
3.
a founder, sponsor, or patron, as of a movement or organization.
4.
(in certain religious groups) a designation applied by the members to themselves.
verb (used with object)
5.
to enroll formally among the saints recognized by the Church.
6.
to give the name of saint to; reckon as a saint."
Im all for people using their brains but people have become pathetically disrespectful here. I'd love to get a moderator involved here and file a complaint. I've had 2 useful posts out of all of this. Peopel have more time to be disrespectful than to actually provide useful information. This wastes ALL of our time...

That won't work. You have to change to the new baseband before you use CM9. Upgrade to 2.3.3 first, then flash the rom

Since I believe the rest of the posts are a bit too much for the beginner, I hope this post breaks it down. I'm bad at using the forum editing tools , so forgive me for bad editing.
First, your phone is old baseband. Old baseband means that the software used to access the sim card and make calls is old. It does not mean that they are no good ROMs for it. One of the most stable and up to date rom I found was OMGB (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376344). But the bad news is that you cannot try any of the nightlies of CM9 or the deliciousness of ICS (Ice Cream Sandwhich).
This can be overcome by installing new baseband, which involves installing a new stock rom of Gingerbread. It is not as simple as flashing a zip so the easiest of the guides I found is this one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301489). I personally recommend you upgrade to new baseband and let me know if you don't understand the process.
Here are some good ROMs for O1 is found.
AOKP (4.4) (New Baseband) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613712)

SlimGen v1.6.0 (2.3.7) (Old/New Baseband) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1463495)
These are some of the few of the many great ones. I currently upgraded to new baseband and am rocking AOKP and so far, I'm speechless by the CM9 awesomeness. I hope I helped. Please click the thank you button if I helped.

Is it something wrong with my phone? Everytime I have tried to updated it, there is always an error. Its like my phone is connected, but not properly connected. I have tried to update it with lg's software on 4 different computers.
And when I choose mass-storage. I still dont find my device under "My computer". But when I plug it in to the computer, it gives the normal sound. And all the drivers are installed correctly

unbrick

I tried to install a custom rom on my phone and something went wrong. I was in cwm recovery and installing it from the zip file, but it said the installation failed (after it said someting like system is already unmounted). The phone is stuck on the green HTC letters. I can get into the bootloader screen, but I cannot get back into recovery. I click it, and the recovery screen flashes, but that is it. I think I need to flash a rom, but I am unsure how to do that. Can someone please help me? I did a little searching, but honestly I am scared that I wont be able to fix it and I just need a little help.
Thanks

You need to flash the kernel from inside the ROM zip file.
Then, once u get booted up, download and install 4ext recovery to prevent this from happening again
And if u ask me how to flash a kernel, I PROMISE, u will NOT like my response :-D

Is it the kernal from the stock rom that I was on or the one I was trying to install? Also, can you describe how to flash it? Sorry for all the questions, but I really do apreciate the help.
Considering you are flashing my Rom you need to use 4ext to make it flash right

Just some friendly advice: It's always better to search for your answer before asking for help. People will be more willing to help, if you have first demonstraded that you have exhausted all efforts to help yourself. XDA is not a help/support site. It has always been about and for development.

I am sorry glacierguy I didn't see that part of your post. I did do a search and the information I found said that you must go into recovery. I cannot get into recovery. When I select recovery from the boot menu the phone restarts and something that looks like the recovery screen quickly flashes and then the phone goes back to the HTC screen.

Download a stock ruu, place it on your sd card rename it PH85IMG, boot into bootloader, it'll ask if you want to update, volume up as yes, when it finishes and reboots, root via hasoon's tool, install 4EXT recovery via the app, note that you have to install busy box first, this can be found on the market, once you have 4EXT recovery, start your rom flashing to the new rom all over again, this time it should be fine.
The problem is that I cant place the information onto the sdcard since it is not visible on the computer because the phone will not start all the way. Is there an alternative way to do this? When the phone did start I was transferring the information to the sdcard by using the phone in disk drive mode when connected to the computer. My computer has an sdcard slot, but it is the larger size and I can't find the adapter. Is that the only way to do this?

Find the adapter or learn fastboot commands... Adapter would be easier... I could see fastboot commands not going well witb you. If u can't find it, they're dirt cheap at Wal-Mart or Target (wherever u shop)

Here is an example of where a google search would serve you well. There are sd card adapters for this purpose.

Please take some time to research before asking questions. Modding phones requires a lot of research and understanding. The answers are there, if you take the time to read. Developers invest a lot of their personal time into development, and they do so, absolutely free. They also share all the necessary info. If you read, read, then read some more, you will find the answers.

Can't tell him about fastboot commands because I'm pretty sure he's not on a modded or the ENG hboot, therefore he'd be wasting time, grab the adapter, that's your best chance.
Thank you everybody for the help. Dark Nightmare you were especially helpful and I really apreciate it. I got the new rom on my phone and everything is working now. Originally I did follow the instructions for putting the new rom on, but the problem was they were old instructions and they did not involve 4ext recovery so the flash didn't work. After that the problem was that I didn't have the sd adapter, but I went and got one and everything worked perfectly.
I find this forum really useful and I am sorry if I angered glacier guy or anybody else, but I did do some searches and sometimes it is just better to ask a question. After all, thats one of the reasons a forum exist in the first place, right?

SOS: Help a Noob stuck at Samsung screen upon attempt to root

Hello,
Could you pls help a noob with a rooting problem? I attempted to root my ICS AT&T Galaxy Note i-717 using Odin3 v 1.85 and a pda.tar file. Prior to that, I had checked and confirmed the USB drivers are installed (I have Kies software installed on the PC. However, folliwing the succesful flash of pda.tar I got the phone stuck at the Samsung screen. I could still get to the download screen. However, the phone would not go pass that screen. Can you pls tell me what I did wrong/guide me w simple steps on how to fix the phone and finish the root? I have the read many different root treads but I find them confusing. Treads are ponting at different files to be frashed/installed on the phone. Thanks very much.
This happens from time to time...don't worry.
Reboot phone in download mode, connect phone, reflash kernel.
A few things: use stock samsung cable. Use back of computer usb port. Reboot computer before you try again. Re download the kernel to be sure your file is not corrupted. Make sure phone battery is more than 80%.

Rangercaptain,
Thanks very much. Where can I get the kernel from and which one/which file do I need to flash? Also, how do I flash it? Do I use Odin or another method? Again Thanks a lot!

Stuck at Samsung
I have the same issue tho have tried troubleshooting and could really use some extra help.
Updated to ATT stock ICS update a few months ago. Everything workin fine.
Wanted to root it so I could back everything up not to lose anything when moving to JB.
Rooted by flashing Da_G's pda.tar, reboot, and then flashed 2.3.3.0 TWRP
Noticed it was stuck at Samsung.
Here's where I'm kickin myself because I should have backed it up before all this, but I waited because I figured root doesn't wipe data!
Entered TWRP, backed up.
Now what I've tried to fix it... and failed
1. Reflashed pda.tar about 5 times
2. Found a stock pda "pda-odin-att-stock.tar", flashed (fixed) but it's stock setup and contacts and other google services don't work, lost homescreen icon placement and all other settings.
3. TWRP: Restore all = stuck at Samsung again
4. Repeat 2 and Restore only System
5. Repeat 2 and Restore only Data
6. Repeat 2 and flash pda.tar = boots, but same thing with it all stock, so I restore and it's stuck again.
It's my wife's phone and she has contacts that aren't saved in Google, to-do lists saved in app data files, and to be honest, she said everything better be exactly the same after updating (which I promised it would be since the plan was to root, backup, update, and restore), so I'm kinda trying to save my hide. PLEASE HELP me save my ass ha!
Other things to note: I just rooted a new phone about 30mins prior with the exact same root and TWRP files and it went very smooth, no issues.
Using a Samsung original cable on a laptop. Phone Battery was ~30% when I did all the steps, but since then read that battery should be higher so swapped out to fully charged battery and retried the steps.
Using the root kernel you did, basically flashed a Gingerbread kernel over an ICS rom. (Doesn't work)
Your best bet at this point, is too flash a rooted ICS build from bigfau ...(located in the super thread stock section)
Just flash using TWRP ....BUT !!!
make sure you wipe the dalvik cache, system cache, and system before flashing the rooted ICS build.
Once the rom is flashed, you will be stock and rooted.
Regarding data you have lost with no backup....start begging forgiveness now ....it's gone ....g

Wouldn't I be able to just flash an ICS Kernel to undo the GB kernel and set things straight? Or is the whole thing ruined already?
I have the data/app and data/data files. If all's really lost, I'll just put JB on it. If I copy the data/app and data/data files onto the new image will all the apps with their settings/data be restored at least?
Yes, flash the correct kernel.
I think what happened to me is the OS got deleted cuz once I flashed a rom I was good to go!

[GT-N710x][SHV-E250*] CF-Auto-Root

Check your device model ! Settings -> About device -> Model number. See the third post for exact supported model numbers. If your device is a totally different model, it will not work (may even brick) !
CF-Root is the root for "rooting beginners" and those who want to keep as close to stock as possible. CF-Root is meant to be used in combination with stock Samsung firmwares, and be the quickest and easiest way for your first root.
Donate
CF-Root has been available for many device (Galaxy S1, Galaxy Tab 7", Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S3) and has clocked over 7 million downloads. This is not even counting custom ROMs that already include it. Don't be a leech, buy me a beer (and use the "Thanks" button!). Imagine if every CF-Root user has donated me $1...
Coming from a different device ?
Keep reading, the new CF-Auto-Root incarnation of CF-Root is different from other CF-Root's.
What's installed
- SuperSU binary and APK
- Stock recovery
Installation and usage
Flash the CF-Auto-Root package as PDA in ODIN (details on how to do that are in next post), and your device should reboot into a modified recovery (signified by a large red Android logo) and it will install SuperSU for you and restore the stock recovery, and reboot back into Android.
If you don't get to the red Android logo, boot into recovery manually ("adb reboot recovery", or boot while holding Power+VolUp+Home).
Using this root increases your flash counter. You should run Triangle Away (see below) after rooting to reset the counter. Note that if you want to run custom kernels or custom recoveries, your flash counter will be set to 1 at every boot. Either configure Triangle Away to reset the counter at every boot (Play version only) or only reset the counter when you need to go into warranty.
Did you see the red Android logo during rooting, but SuperSU does not appear? This may sometimes occur due to left-over files and settings, however, you can usually install SuperSU from Google Play at this stage and it'll just work.
Why isn't this just called CF-Root
Because it's not a traditional CF-Root with all the bells and whistles. This is a new class of CF-Root I'm going to make for more devices that keeps everything stock and just gives you only root. I'm "done" with permanent custom recoveries, they cause too many issues on new devices, in my opinion. The "Auto" comes from the fact that I'm building it in such a way it does most of the work automatically without me having to adjust any code. It's a larger project I was not yet wanting to release, but because so many people have asked me to release a CF-Root for the Note2, here is the early Note2 version.
Not included - Triangle Away
Triangle Away can be used to reset the flash counter after installing CF-Root. The flash counter keeps track of how many custom firmwares you have flashed, as this voids warranty. (No idea what this about ? Read up on it, you will want to use this !)
Not included - adbd Insecure
As this CF-Root does not include a custom kernel, adb shell does not have root access by default (you can still get it by typing su inside the shell), nor is adb remount supported, nor will adb push and adb pull work on system files. adbd Insecure can be used to remedy this situation. (No idea what this is about ? Don't worry about it !)

[CENTRAL] CF-Auto-Root
For requests for new roots and generic discussion - please keep device specific discussion in the thread you are viewing now.
ODIN Installation (detailed)
- Follow these instructions to the letter. Do not touch any buttons or checkboxes that are not listed below to touch!
- Unzip the attached Odin3-vX.X.zip file
- Download and unzip the CF-Auto-Root-....zip file (see posts below this one)
- If you end up with a recovery.img and cache.img file, you've extracted twice. You need to end up with a .tar.md5 file - don't extract that one
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start Odin3-vX.X.exe
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Auto-Root-....tar.md5
- Put your phone in download mode (turn off phone, then hold VolDown+Home+Power to boot - if it asks you to press a button to continue, press the listed button, or run adb reboot download command)
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure Repartition is NOT checked
- Click the Start button
- Wait for Android to boot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
- NOTE: Sometimes the device does *not* boot into recovery mode and root your device. Just do the entire procedure again if this happens. If it still will not install root and such, make sure that in Odin "Auto Reboot" is not checked. Then after flashing, pull the battery, and boot with VolUp+Home+Power button to boot into recovery manually. This will start the install process.
New to Samsung? Unfamiliar with Odin? Think all the above is a hassle? Get used to it. It's very simple, and us Samsung folk use Odin (or Mobile ODIN ) for everything! It's so very very convenient once you get used to it. Notice the 30 second comment above? For experienced users, the entire process indeed takes only 30 seconds!
You may now optionally want to install and run Triangle Away to reset the flash counter.
