Guys , i believe most of you have flash your xt720 to CM 6 , and i'm planning to do so , but this is the very first time i'm flashing a new rom , there is many things that i don't understand , do someone mind to help me out ?
1) i learned that after flashing CM 6 , all SYSTEM APPS will gone ? I know this include google apps and what i have to do is just to flash google pack . But what about some important apps such as usb.apk or packageinstaller.apk ? And what about livewallpaper picker.apk ? All those included in the google pack ?
2) At the xda thread , it was written that camcorder cannot works well , so does this mean camcorder cannot function at all ?
3) What is the cpu frequency (clock speed) for this rom ?
4) Developer mentioned that we need to create sd-ext / link2sd directory so that we can use link2sd . Previously on the original rom i've create sdext2 and store most apps in it , if i switch to CM 6 , is there something else i need to do/create ? Or i can use directly ? I don't really understand what he means by create sd-ext/link2sd directory
5) I've changed the font before , after i flashed , what will happen to the font i apply ? And can i still view chinese / korean / japan words on my phone ?
PLS don't post me a link to the CM 6 thread because i have went and even posted my Q but so far no reply
ANY HELPS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED ! GUYS , IF YOU GUYS UNDERSTAND ACTUALLY WHAT I'M ASKING , PLEASE HELPS ... THANKS !
1. System apps will be included in the ROM. What is missing is gmail, gtalk etc that you have to flash gapps package to get it back. Those apps that you downloaded from market will be lost only. Just download them back.
2. Not functional well = may be not working. But once you get a functional Rom with camera, it will continue to work. The software just broken and not hardware.
3. Should be original clock as your phone unless you overclock it
4. You don't have to Recreate. You just have to flash the file and write the command and it will work. What ext can do is you can store your apk's cache or data completely in SD so that you can install more apps.
5. Every android phone can view every font. You just have to install Chinese keyboard to type Chinese word.

Thanks very much ! Finally a person who answer to my Q . As for point 4 , i have run the command on previous rom and now if i switched to cm6 i still have to rewrite the command ? And what is the file that you said to flash ?
As for overclock , is milestone overclock compatible with the rom ? I used it for my original rom , overclocked to 1000MHz .
Thanks ... really

Take a2sd script. Flash it. Go to terminal emulator, type
Su
A2sd cachesd <<<<<<<< it will move cache to SD
A2sd data2SD <<<<<<<< move data to SD. Not recommended as it will take a long time to boot.
I'm not sure. You should ask your kernel developers.

Android 4.2 keyboard with gesture, its as good as swipe.
http://m.pocketnow.com/2012/10/30/android-4-2-stock-keyboard-now-available-for-download-unofficially
After installing go to languages and input and check Android Key board
Hope it will be useful.
Download and Install
Now, getting it on your device is going to be easy for some of you, and less easy for others. You'll need to be on Android 4.0+, to start.
If you're on a phone with a UI overlay that has the stock keyboard disabled (eg, Samsung TouchWiz, HTC Sense, Sony), you can just download the apk below- no root required. To install, make sure you have "install from unknown sources" enabled in your phone settings, and after installation, go into your phone's keyboard settings and enable "Android keyboard." Then, you can switch to the new keyboard. This may also work on some "stock" Android custom ROMs - but it will not work on stock Android builds distributed by Google.
Get the apk here: http://d-h.st/XuS
If the apk doesn't work, you're running a phone that is either A.) running stock Android (as in, AOSP), or B.) running software that has the stock Android keyboard as an option, you'll need to download this ZIP file, and flash it in recovery. That also means you're going to need root. as you'll be writing to /system/apps. Before you do, though, either back up the stock keyboard (if you don't know how, you probably shouldn't be doing this) or create a full image backup, just in case. Here's that ZIP file:
Get the zip here: http://d-h.st/36D

This is a compilation between me, houstonn and SnowLeopardJB. (Be sure to thank them!) It is stock jellybean 4.1.2 with a little modification. You do NOT need to do any special modifications/conversions to install this. Just flash in CLOCKWORKMOD only (twrp will not work). It will automatically change your language to english but the keyboard will still contain some korean characters. To change that go to settings>>language and input>>languages>>unselect korean (make sure ONLY english is selected and you will have all english)
Features:
- rooted
- busybox
- most stock bloat included
- LTE works
- access to all internal sdcard (16GB)
- access to external sdcard works now
- Google Now
- 3.4 kernel
- astro file manager as a system app

internal sdcard works fine. just no external sdcard. unfortunately since korean model doesnt include an external sdcard the kernel was compiled without this feature.
I know, I call internal sd "internal nand" and external sd card "sd card". I just thought perhaps it should be in the OP. Thank you guys very much for getting this thing together.

thank you for pointing that out. just added it to the OP. i keep forgetting that we have an external sdcard. haha i only use my ext sd for backups in CWM.
it should be pointed out that recovery will always be able to see your external sdcard no matter what rom you have installed. so keep my cwm installed and you can always backup to ext sd

Yeah I can't use a ROM that doesn't support external SD, so I'm stuck on stock remixes until jb source drops .
I have a lot of street and topo maps in addition to a bunch of mp3's and portable mass storage (exFAT ftw) that necessitate a 64GB SD card. I just wish phone manufacturers would load devices up with hundreds of GB worth of flash because NAND flash memory has gotten so freaking cheap that it would add next to nothing to the Bill o' Materials.

I Have made this thread to help ppl to ask and Q/A here
now it will easy to post here rather wasting time to create a thread...
Instead of wasting time to make a new thread come here and post ur Q/A , u can ask any thing related to this forum , device , roms , kernels , themes , mods etc ...have some doubts come and clarify here , want to share info come and post here ...any req post here..
so now u guys understand the main objective of this thread is to keep the forum clean and help others..
want to post here then have to follow some rules.
-NO OFF-TOPIC
-No spamming
-No fighting with other
-No Q/A related to best ROM/KERNEL
Sorry, but could you explain a bit more? I don't get that thread. Thought Q&A is for asking questions?

I wanted to ask, is it posible (on my ray) to make ultra light gapps and ROM with no ather apps just system and superSu + root browser.
I mean just main system apps, with no recorders, google talks, no live wallpapers picker or theme choosers...
My question is who could help me to find out main apps (just main) in my android?
Thanks.

Yes all these things are possible. A lot will depend on what ROM you are running and what you have already done to your device. If you google search for light gapps or minimal gapps you will find what you are looking for, just make sure to take a version of gapps that is compatible with your RAY and whatever ROM you are running on it. There is a pretty big list of what can and should not be deleted from your device here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/op...e-apks-their-purpose-safe-not-remove-big.html
Don't just remove anything that you "think" you don't need. Only remove stuff that you are reasonably sure is safe to remove and make sure that you have a rescue strategy ready (a nandroid back up of your device for example) in case it all goes wrong.

These types of general help threads are becoming more popular around xda and as sandy7 said, it is largely a way to keep people from opening up new threads (most of which are repeated questions). These unnecessary threads can clog up a forum and cause more important threads to sink and be hard to find. These general help threads are usually describes as new user friendly and that anything can be asked with out the asker getting flamed. That includes the dreaded "which is the best rom" question, which should be answered as politely as possible (hard I know!). If you guys care, I know of some of these other threads and I can post or PM you links, so you can see how others have done it.
I am on stock sony rom+mesa 3.8 hybrid, I created a back via TWRP, so now I want to install cm10 on my phone.
questions:
1) after installing cm10, if i restore the backup, will it backup only my data and settings? will it revert back to stock rom/the rom for which the backup was created?
2)how to switch between 2 roms(maintaining same data on both)?
3) does mesa 3.8 support init.d script?
4) how to check if init.d script is working on my device?
5) is i install any other rom, will the init.d script remain?
2. Confirm first - I know it works if it's the update of the same rom flash a new rom without wiping data, just wipe cache and dalvik, it will either work or bootloop
3, 4. If u are a noob, download pimpmyrom from store, itchecks for you and if it's not there it can make it supported, if dev there wud be a much better way

1. Nope if you restore ics backup on jb kernel you will be stuck in bootloop. Also I won't recommend you to use ics data on cm10.
2. If you are using ics rom then you can use nearly any ics rom over it without wiping data but doing all the other given wipes. Same goes for other android versions.
3. Just check in the mesa kernel thread no need to ask here.
4. If it's in the kernel then it will work. Anyways you cud do as mnishamk told u...
5. Most probably it may. Many of the ROMs here have int.d support.

AJ

Installing Stock Apps In Custom Rom

I tried posting my problem on rom's thread but I'm new here @ XDA and not allowed to post under development forum until post count reaches 10.
