quick question about kdz flash - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

hi all. I was working on some mods, and wanted to start fresh. I did a factory restore. funny thing is, seems it's missing things. most importantly, a Frickin keyboard. ( funny, I know)
my original backup seems to be corrupt, and for some reason, TB freezes when trying to restore any system apps.
going to reflash kdz. can I flash it with CWM, or should I do the Lelus method again?

Update ROM, keep all settings?

Hello,
im am using the latest official ROM by HTC (2.73.405.5).
Can i upgrade to another ROM (Modaco or smth else..) without losing all my settings, apps, messages and files?
Thank you,
m0jo.
..or can i create a nandroid backup, install a new rom, and if i dont like it, just roll back to my old rom with all my settings using nandroid restore?
*bump* sorry guys
if you have the recovery image, yes a nandroid backup will keep all your settings.
including app settings and everything, like EVERYTHING ahahah
If you read modaco's post with his rom, I think he says you dont have to "wipe" (from the recovery image) if you come from your version. (double check though).
so i think youd keep all if not then most of your settings if you dont wipe and just install the rom.
ps i thought i read somewhere that his rom might not be up to speed if you dont wipe first, but by all means, if you have a nandroid backup, then try it out!
(ps i found this out the hard way but updating back to ruu from htc website erases reovery image) not that this is even that relevent
just make a nandroid backup, then update without wiping. if it doesn't work restore the backup and find another way or fix the problem, if it works be happy...
thank you.
but next time pls tell me that all my settings ARE gone AND my phone loses a lot of features so i have to reinstall the official ROM... :/
i cant see how you lost your settings if you didnt do a wipe... but then thats why we said do a nandroid backup! so restore to that from your recovery image
all my settings are gone, i had to configure my phone like i started it the first time.. The only thing that was not lost, were my apps. But some of them are gone though.

then you did something wrong. if you don't wipe then your settings won't be deleted. modaco's custom rom 3.0 does NOT delete your settings during installation, i have done it like 30 times. also you were told several times to make a nandroid backup. if you did you can restore it and EVERYTHING is back like before. if you didn't do it is entirely your fault, don't blame us.
and what features exactly are you missing? mcr3.0 is full of features, you are eather dumb, blind or drunk

[Q] 'System UIDs inconsistent' after restoring from backup in Clockworkmod recovery

OK. So I made a backup of my debloat froyo state using Clockworkmod so that I can try out those gingerbread roms. I didn't like it, and tried to restore back to where I was.
So here's what I did. I wiped everything, flashed the debloat froyo rom, then performed a restore action.
Now, when I boot my phone, all the apps I used to have are missing, and all I get is the 'System UIDs inconsistent' message, with a button saying 'I'm feeling lucky'. Is there any way I can fix this?
Also, if there is a proper way to restore a backup in Clockworkmod, what is it?
Thank you.

Generally that's bad news
You can try to google around or look on xda (in forums other than the thunderbolt) for people who have encountered that, but generally it means you have to start over with a fresh system.
Ok. So I am looking at the screen as it does the restore, and it seems to stop midway in the 'Restoring data...', step, where it looks like everything is running fine, and all of a sudden I see the clockworkmod menu. It seems to be an incomplete restore. Is there any way to fix this?
After I had that happen I had to flash a new rom so I just upgraded to Gingerbread.
I also had to do a fresh install (ie, deleting data & cache) after getting this error randomly this morning.
Still in the process of redoing everything on my phone, doh!

[Q] Backup App Data on Rezound before Wipe

Hi All,
I've been researching this all morning and I'm not coming up very optimistic.
I've decided to go ahead and start getting messy with my Rezound. My first step is to unlock the bootloader etc etc etc. The problem is, from my understanding, your phone gets wiped when the bootloader is unlocked.
The problem is that I've been playing Where's My Water? lately and I'd really like to avoid losing my progress. Is there a way for me to temp root or start this process without losing my data?
Not really. Unless you already have root, you can't use something like Titanium Backup to backup the app data. There are other backup programs, but they normally only backup the apps, not the data.
If you are on the current OTA, there is no longer a temp root solution.

Unfortunately, that's what I'm finding .
I actually didn't install Angry Birds for this exact reason, but when this game was $.25, I figured "What the hell?" Then I couldn't stop playing it :-(.
Is there anyway to make an Nandroid backup without Root? I found an App that will extract data from there (AppExtractor). I'm thinking once I have Root, I should be able to extract from a backup.
Same answer... without root, no.
You could try MyBackup Pro which does not require root. I think that is what I used when I first unlocked and rooted.
You don't have to wipe to unlock. You should be able to unlock. Install recovery app. Do a nandroid backup. Install base rooted rom overtop stock. Then titanium backup. Worked on my old base. Not positive on new ICS leak though.
You may get some force closes before you do a full wipe.
Sent from my highly modified ICS Rezound.
Thanks, but I already wiped :-(.
Got Scott's CleanROM now. Unlocking the Bootloader wipes the phone according to HTC, and it even warned me I'd lose everything.
I really hope this device gets some CM9 love because Sense is just ridiculously over-bloated.
Also, for anyone who hasn't put the leak on yet, ICS has been butchered. HTC replaced the People App with the same contacts you have in GB. At least Apex Launcher is sweet.

I am in the same situation, with a stock Rezound with some data I'd like to keep. Could this be clarified? I thought I could do a 'temp-root', but it seems that this was just for an old version of the stock ROM. I have software version 2.01.605.11
How do I "install recovery app" without first rooting, and therefore having to wipe my phone (for whatever reason)?

Hmm. No boot.

Well well. I know it may surprise you to see me here
I was messing with busybox, trying to update it. Apparently I did something wrong and the phone doesn't boot now. It'll go on the bootanimation, but at the very end, JUST before the menu softkeys lights come up, it instantly crashes and returns to the splash screen and the cycle is repeated.
Anything I can do to restore it back to an usable state, without losing the data I have on the phone? I know how to make it work again, that's really easy, but what I don't know how, is to make it work again without losing data.
I mean, busybox update seemed safe enough >_> Then it broke everything else.
Oh well, any answers would be appreciated.
Just a thought, no expert here but I've made changes to my phone tht caused me to get stuck and I've gone into recovery-restore-advanced restore and just restored the system part and its gotten me back to a running state.
I'm also thinking if you make a nandroid of your current state then try and fix the issue at least you can always have tht to go back to if someone gets you a better answer.
Wish you the best of luck, I hate having to wipe too!

Didn't work, but it was a good idea actually. I didn't have a recent backup. Didn't make one, as I thought busybox would be easy enough and wouldn't affect much. Oops.
Man, I'm having such bad luck today... First, I accidentally deleted few gigs of stuff off my computer. Then my phone gets messed up due to something I did in busybox. Gee, what's next?
Damn....going out on a limb here but what if you back up your rom in its current not booting state. Then wipe and do a fresh install of the same Rom-backup the fresh install.
Afterwards flash the not booting backup you made and then do the advanced restore using the system IMG from the fresh install to see if it will boot?
Sorry thinking in layman's terms here.

Flash the Rom over your brick it should boot back up. Busy box writes the files in /system/xbin (If I remember) so when you reflash the Rom you're using it writes everything back to normal. Just don't do a wipe and you should be good.
Anything that was changed in /system will be reset to original.. so if you had GNow it'll have to be reinstalled. Same thing with any other files in /system.

I actually thought of this, but for some reason, it doesn't work. It still gets hard bootloops.

Thought of this before I did anything, but apparently it affected the /data too (The files inside there are intact, but something there is not allowing my phone to boot), thus continuing the hard bootloops.
I'm befuddled. I will have to figure this out later. For now, I just made a backup of the non-working ROM and wiped everything and flashed a ROM on it. I'll figure out what parts of /data to transfer back later. I needed a functioning phone, so yeah
Thanks for the help. If anyone else has any other good ideas, I'll try them out.

What rom are you using?
Grab that rom, in a zip file preferably, modify the updater script to not write to the data partition, wipe all partitions except data, flash and reboot.
Fix permissions and wipe caches if needed.

Factory reset removing TWRP

I have TWRP installed it has been good to me but now I'm having some issues so I'd figure the best thing to do is to completely wipe the phone and start fresh.
What is the best way to do that. I know I will lose root and TWRP but I have no issues with starting over again.
This is a rookie mistake by editing build.prop file without backing it up. My fault and I will remember this but trying to start over might be the easiest. I just can't find the answer if that Restore G3 to stock will get rid of TWRP or just deletes the user data. Luckily I have a TIBackup of all the factory apps and I reloaded them back on.

I'm not sure if the "factory data reset" from the settings menu within android will or not, but the full "reset" with the .tot file and LG flash tool definitely will (I just did this 2 nights ago). Flashing a new rom via TWRP with a .zip file might be your easiest bet though lol.
I did a factory reset the other day but still having issues so I was thinking of just starting over.
I thought about a new ROM too but I'd rather just fix it right the first time. Restoring my data is easy for me so no biggie

couldn't another G3 owner sent you a copy of the build.prop file?

True. This could also work if someone has a unmodified build.prop file for VZW?
Anyone?
My concern is if someone gives me a ATT or another carrier then I would be screwed.
One of the purposes of installing twrp is so you can backup to solve problems like this. If your going to perform a factory restore I suggest you pull your sim card and do not connect to wifi. before restore also get copies to sdcard of stump.apk and titanium.apk to freeze system updates. Bump the device and make a copy and you will never have to restore to factory again with the lg app. You will always have a freshstart install.
Yea and that was my mistake. I just forgot to do a backup. I'll be doing that once I get it sorted out.
