I recently did a hard reset and moved from ICS to JB but before the switch I made a backup with Titanium Backup. The new install went fine and I was able to pull my contacts from Verizon backup but none of the contact pictures are there. Is there a way to go in to my old backup and pull the contact pictures? where would they be? -thx

I just updated from android 1.6 to 2.1, and as I opened Backup and Restore, I overwrote by accidentally selecting backup instead of restore over my original save file, is there any sd recovery program or anyway I could undo this? really depressing lost all my contacts...btw I checked my sim, there are only 3 contacts there for some reason, and i do not have have them on Google sync either.
Hi,
I have a question which might seem too stupid or trivial.
I am currently running CM 7.1.0 ROM on my Legend. I would like to flash ogo2's Gingerbread ROM while restoring all apps and messages/contacts.
Can somebody help me with the procedure of backing up apps and messages, then flashing the new ROM, then restoring all apps/messages
I have no idea for messages since it doesn't care for me.
If you are not going to format/clean your SD card Titanium backup can be helpful for saving applications with data.
The only app you will need to install is Titanium and it restore applications+appsdata for you after flashing.
Make a backup/restore test drive before proceed with flashing.
For keeping your messages there's some apps in market that might help you, haven't tried them though.

Hi, when i did my root and flashed brand new rom, I used 3 things, I used visionary+ temp root then used Titanium Back for all my apps, I used Go SMS Pro to backup all my sms/mms, and for contacts, I used the built in export contacts to .vcf file the good thing about this is if your contacts are stored on phone (not sim) and you have more than one contact for each name + contact pictures associated they fully restore (so long as you leave the pictures alone on SDcard. If you use only sim for contacts, I have found that you can have problems, only storing the default cantact number, no picture association after backup and restore (lost a whole heap of contacts that way).
How ever, since gaining a lot more knowledge, apparantly you can actually use Titanium to backup your contacts and sms/mms as well as your apps using the "backup system data" from the batch mode, although I haven't tried this yet, I cannot confirm that it works.
for contacts you can export them to sd card, as for the sms and other apps use Titanium Backup
Hi ... i back up my rom... to try another one... with clockworkmod... the files of back up its ok i think....but when i restore the rom... dosnt pass the samsung animation to get inside the phone... so i decide to put another rom but i want to back up my contacts.... did anyone know...where they ve been saved... ???
Hello,
You can use Titanium Backup to backup all applications and system data. The contacts data is the "[Contacts/cal.......something" (in green, beginning with "[" in the "Backup/restore" list].
After you flash the new rom, just reinstall TB and restore the item I told you (data only), reboot and your contacts will be there again. I use this procedure every time I flash a new rom.
You can also try MyBackup Root to backup only contacts, sms, mms and so on. I don't like it, but it works
Ciao
edit: typo..

I think what he was asking is there a way to extract the contacts from a clockwork recovery restore file.
I backed up my phone from an older software version before upgrading a new OTA, and my backup wont restore, and theres a couple contacts that didnt backup to my google account, and I dont know how to retrieve them because i seriously dont want to backup my phone, use the RUU to downgrade, unlock, root, restore the first back-up to get the contact numbers, RUU back to stock, get the OTA, unlock, Root, then restore the new back-up. thats a couple hours work when i have the restore file on my sd card and on my computer. I just want those contacts off of it.
i found an similar thread on this at

Hi all, I was on an unrooted 2.3.3 standard rom, I then rooted, made a full backup and an apps backup using titanium. I then flashed to Ressurection Remix 1.8.1 and noticed that my contacts did not come back. I thought with a full backup and apps backup that the contacts would be backed up, but I am not sure If I have now lost them or what I can do to get them recovered, can anyone help ?
If I recovered my full backup, would that have my contacts in it ?
If you had signed in using Google account, sign in again and you're contacts will be available.... Unless you set the option specific to phone only

One its wrong forum rules say Q&A for questions .
TB backs up your apps only .
Nandroid backup is full image of rom .
Kies backup of contacts or Google synced or restore from Sim card .

It's bordering on a question and a request for assistance. I'm sure a moderator will move it if its in the wrong place.
TB makes a backup of apps, but I have noticed (after the event) that it will also backup contacts if you manually select it to. Why this isnt turned on by default is baffling.
The Nandroid backup is not a backup then, its a rom backup. That was my mistake for thinking it was a backup of the phone.
I dont use Kies, or google or store contacts on sim. I take it I have lost my contacts completely now then and no way of getting them back ?
Would a data recovery program be able to read the phones internal memory as a drive ? You would think there is something it could recover ?
The file recovery program RECUVA free ware is worth a try or you could open a Nandroid backup .
Nandroid is an image of the phone rom in full including contacts .

thanks thats encouraging and good to know, I'll have a play around with it tonight when I get in from work.
RECUVA wouldnt see the phone memory. Nandroid backup let me look at the backup that was made, I saw the contacts.apk but even after I saved it to a location (I did this several times) I went to the location and it didnt show. I even tried to install but it says there was a contacts list there and wouldnt let me overwrite.
I did a full recovery and now all my contacts are back. I will make several backups of these hehe. I don;t want that to happen again.
Thanks for the help.

You can use Titanium Backup to restore your contacts. You have to backup everything first (user applications and system data), flash your new ROM, reinstall TB.
At this point, you can restore your contacts: just open TB and search the backup list for something like "[Contacts....]......" with green title. Restore it (data only), reboot and you should see your contacts.
All the "[something]" items in green are settings and data. Contacts, wireless networks, bookmarks, and so on.
I use this procedure for every new ROM.
Only problems found: restoring SMS/MMS from GB to ICS doesn't work (for me, at least).
Good Luck
You can recover lost contacts from Samsung Galaxy after rooting. To do this, connect your Galaxy phone to your laptop and use a Samsung Contact Recovery program to be able to view the deleted files in the task window. After this, click on the ones that you want to recover.
so here goes the story.
My dad's galaxy s3 had an Omega rom on 4.1.2
I decided to update with CM12 Unofficial from Temsek few days back. I didnt take any backup because there was nothing important there to be saved and I believed all the contacts are backed up to Google server.
So I flashed the latest TWRP and did clean install of CM12 and gapps and everything was fine.
But after logging into google and installing apps again. I reaslised all the contacts are missing! I have checked Google accounts and I cant see any contacts there. I am not sure what happened. Because I am pretty sure when I installed Omega earlier, contacts were backed up with Google.
In the end, I believe I have lost all the contacts ( 20 yrs worth of contacts).
But I found on my PC a nandroid backup of Stock FW from 2012 which I must have backed up using CMW.
My questions are:
- Do I have to flash Clockworkmod recovery again to restore the backup?
- And if I do successfully restore the backup, will the contacts be still there?
- Will there be an issue if I am going back from CM12 to Stock backup from 2012.
Please help guys. I don't want my dad to loose all his contacts!!
Instead of trying to restore the nandroid, which will lead to loss of imei and serial number, just use titanium backup to extract your contacts from the backup file.
thanks for ur reply..
but this will work even if it was not a titanium backup?
Best go read about titanium backup.
