[Q] Acessing APN Verizon - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It seems (or according to a Verizon tech) that Verizon disabled the ability to change APN settings on the Galaxy Tab 1 10.1 Since I use a special application i need a static ip and need to change the APN to WE01.WZWSTATIC however the network does not seem to be able to provision it. And since vzw blocked access to it is there a way to assess the apn settings?? maybe i am not using the correct *# code or i am not typing it in the correct place. Any suggestions would be great.
Interesting however are the new Galaxy Tab 2 that we have that allow access to the APN settings... (sigh)

[Q] one user for all APN limitation!

after having trouble connecting to some of my cellular provider services, i have found that no matter what i enter in the User/Pass configuration in the APN settings, its always using the same User/Pass, which is
user: [email protected]
password: NotUsed
after few searches, i have found that the atrix is using the user and password that configured at the file: /system/etc/ppp/peers/pppd-ril.options
so no matter what is configured at the APN setting, it will always use the config from the file...
i do have the ability to edit the default user and password in the file, but still i cannot use more then one user and password...(i've also tried write a '#' before these lines, but it didn't worked out....)
this limitation is quite annoying, first because it's just limiting me! and specially because my cellular provider is using few APN's with different user and passwords....
so i have to use more then one....
is there anyway to bypass that file? so the atrix will use the actual user and password i have configured in the APN settings?
tnx!
?
That's very strange. I have mine configured with the Claro AR APN, and I don't have the issue you describe. User clarogprs and password clarogprs999. Its working fine, with no data issues.
BTW I have 4.1.8.3 with latest Gingerblur.
How are you checking what user/password is being used?
Thread moved.
There is several methods to authenticate users, that are stronger than the APN user and password, so many networks just don't use it... so in many networks this wont be an issue...

[Q] APN Settings Via Shell

I know there is a lot of questions surrounding APN settings and I have done a lot of research and can't seem to find a solution to my problem. Background I am running a XT908 which appears to be a very close cousin or brother or sister (choose your family member) to the XT912. It is a CDMA phone from a small local carrier. Anyway I have CM 10.1 on it, working great frankly I love it, however like many small carriers getting the APN settings restored is a real pain.
So the real issue is when I goto Settings -> More -> Mobile Networks, there is no option for Access Point Names. This is true both on CM 10.1, AND the stock ROM which was ICS 4.0.4. So the data on my phone is working, however I can't send MMS messages (it just sits at sending). I presume the problem is the APN, I'm not sure if it is simply using Verizon's and it is working because Verizon runs off the local carriers towers or what.
Anyway, is there a way to modify the active APN setting(s) via the ADB shell. I've been doing a lot of playing around with the apns-conf.xml, and the telephony.db database located in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db. I attempted to restore my APN config by installing APN Backup & Restore, making it a System App, dumping the APNs on the stock ROM, and then restoring them on CM10. This did import some of the settings (although the database fields don't match up exactly), however I still have the MMS problem.
So I guess I just wrote a long winded explanation to ask, is there a file or database I can modify with my local carriers settings and make it the active APN? Or is my APN not even the issue since data is working fine, it is MMS only? Thanks much.
Going to try and bump one time.

[Q] "APN protocol, APN Type, Bearer" not available in APN settings

I don't see these in my APN settings.
I have a new S2 to replace my old one (dropped it), and the APN doesn't work.
AT&T sim. The APN settings I see here have those fields.. APN type I get internet, mms, internet+mms.. that's it.
How do I adjust these settings? Need to root first?

[Q] Configuration Messages on CM10

Hello,
My network operator uses configuration message to let you use Mobile Data
so i sent a message to 250 with the word "set" as i always did on the Samsung Stock Rom
but with the CM10, I didn't receive anything
and in the message app on the samsung stock rom when i click the menu button, there was an option for managing Configuration Messages
but that's seems to be missing on CM10
{Q} Is CM10 able to use Configuration message somehow or what ?!
The point of the configuration messages is so that you can install the APN settings for the particular carrier you're on. CM10 will automatically install the APN settings for your carrier (unless you're on a ridiculously obscure carrier) so there's no need for the configuration messages.
Are you getting a data connection? If you are, a then all good. If not, check your APN settings and see what's happening there.

Click to collapse
No, I don't get any connection without that configuration message
and Where is that APN settings ?!
Settings then more settings then mobile network then access point
Andrew have you seen where the default CM APN's don't cover a given carrier? I've been on a pretty obscure carrier with custom ROM and still been fine...

[Q] how to change default MMC and MNC???

so I am having APN issues after upgrading from 2.6.3 to 4.1.2 rooted. no data or mms, phone and txt works great. same provider.
galaxy s2 sch-r760 generic cdma, ACS provider here in alaska. apparently goes through gci?
now this is going to be a book, so grab a tasty beverage.
when i add the APN the mnc and mmc are not correct.
when i change them it discards the APN
i have no sim.
this thread did not help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715788
if i dont change those, it seems to communicate with my network as it fills in the mmsc field. but i get no internet.
if i enable then disable airplane mode it shows the 3g emblem, then it disappears.
I have all the correct APN info from my provider.
I have tried every way of changing the APN-conf.xml file but nothng has worked.
my thinking is that i need to change the default mnc and mmc that appear when i go to add the apn, to the correct values and then i will be able to save it.
however i cannot find that field in the systems. if someone know a trick i havent found in the last week of researching, please help.
could my phone be locked? if so how would i go about unlocking? could upgrading my software have changed my cdma settings??
i am fairly new to messing with android but i have some linux experience and am a quick learner.
Also if there is a custom rom or kernal or binary or what ever the operating system is called that might fix this issue and work on my device please let me know.
if someone does help i will pay a reward to them via pay pal, it wont be much but hey its better than nothing.
